Credit where credit is due: the service here is absolutely amazing. The staff are incredibly friendly, polite, and genuinely make you feel valued – 10/10 for the team.
Unfortunately, the food was a real disappointment and, for us, the single underwhelming dining experience we’ve had in Madeira so far. The fact they were on Michelin Guide will certainly mislead you into thinking you’re going to have an amazing meal.
• Couvert: The bread and focaccia were served cold, not even at room temperature, and the butter portion was so small it was barely enough for one person, let alone to share.
• Appetizers: We ordered beef tartare and ceviche. Both dishes were bland and lacked basic seasoning. The tartare felt like had not even salt or pepper, making it feel like eating raw meat straight from the butcher. The ceviche was completely overpowered by purée and sorbet, masking the fish flavor and textures entirely.
• Main dishes: We had the prawn risotto and the cheeks. Both were “okay,” but had we skipped the starters, we might have been less disappointed. The risotto had plenty of prawns and decent flavor, but the rice was far too wet. The cheeks were tender, but the sides were plain, and the mashed potatoes had a taste that simply wasn’t for us.
In short, while the service is exceptional, the food quality does not match the prices charged and let my wife and I very disappointed. For half of the price you can easily enjoy far better meals, with amazing views, elsewhere in Madeira.
