Where to Eat and Drink in Dripping Springs

"The Thai truck offers Southeast Asian dishes like crab fried rice, curries, drunken noodles, and sesame chicken, all with adjustable spice levels. And the brewery brews up all sorts of staple and seasonal beers, plus pizza and panini. For Aroi, takeout orders can be placed online; for the brewery’s food, takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Erin Russell, Nadia Chaudhury

Google
I've been going here for 10+ years and still the best Thai food I have ever had in the Austin area. To all the reviews saying it takes "forever"... it is not a fast food place! Order ahead and I guarantee you it will be ready for pickup when they say it will be. This place deserves 5 stars!

Amy Kromenacker

Google
We ordered from here on a Wednesday evening around 6:30 pm and the food was ready on time at 7:15. We were pleasantly surprised by this place and loved that they had kiddo-sized portions for under 5 bucks. Our toddler loved the fried rice! We got the yellow curry with tofu and the green curry with chicken. Both were awesome. We will definitely be back!

William Wigfield

Google
Ordered from here a few times now. Expect a wait! Food is good, though some items can be over seasoned/overly sweet. Drunken noodles were a hit, sesame chicken was tasty (though a bit too sweet). Spring rolls and brussel sprout appetizers also very good. Has taken over an hour each time, so plan ahead.

Jason Cole

Google
My go-to when I want Thai food. I’ve had the masaman curry, pad Thai, cashew chicken, sesame chicken, green and yellow curries, and they’re all ridiculously good. Egg rolls, cheese rolls, and Brussels spouts are my must have appetizers. I usually plan on arriving about 5 minutes after the pickup time as they’re pretty busy.

Peter Rossiter

Google
Food is good but pickup times are consistently under estimated. I get it’s a small truck with a lot of business but constantly the estimates are 30-40 min lower than reality. Today I ordered food at 5:33pm and the original pickup time published was 6:20pm. After I paid, it immediately went to 6:35pm, which is suss right there. I arrived for pickup at 6:48pm and was told 10 min more and I got it at 7:05. I never received an update to the 6:35pm pickup time.

Google
We got drunken noodles and their special crab fried rice for to go. They take some time to get food out, so be prepared to wait. I was surprised to find thin rice noodles instead of the usual flat rice noodles in my drunken noodles. But nevertheless it tasted good and fresh. The crab fried rice tasted ok, could have had more crab. The quantity felt a bit on the smaller side given the pricing, but definitely one of the better tasting thai places compared to others here in dripping springs.

Google
We order regularly from Aroi. It doesn't get fresher than this place. Very authentic. Great about dietary restrictions. The owners are super kind and friendly. I would give this place 10 out of 5 stars if possible.

Google
Pretty damn good food. I got the veggie delight, or the veggie lover - I'm not sure which - with added tofu, for $9.20. It was plenty of food to fill me up and it was very tasty. The woman at the front, and the cook were both polite. I don't know what exactly other reviewers have to complain about with this place.

Yelp
Staff are awful. So rude. I will never order here again. We have consistently supported this local business, despite there always being an hour and a half wait for average food. Tonight our order was over $100 with tip (for what service?). When I arrived to pick up, I asked if we could add a peanut sauce I had forgotten upon ordering. She told me not unless I paid the 75c. I realized I had thrown my barefoot kids in the car and only brought my keys and phone, no wallet. I asked if she could comp the 75c and she turned nasty! Telling me if every other customer has to pay it why shouldn't I pay it? Throwing up her hands, shaking her head with a disdainful look on her face! Bye Felecia. PS the owners responses to any negative review on here certainly shows what kind of person is running that place!

Yelp
Enjoyed the entire process. Ordered food online, paid and tipped online. I was able to schedule when to pick it up and it was ready at that time. Our friends that live in DS told us about this place and were headed to our house and they were able to pick it up for us. Stayed warm from DS to our house in Westlake. We enjoyed the food. My husband even said it was the perfect spice for him. He got a 3. I got no spice garlic chicken and really enjoyed it. My father the sesame chicken. Our favorite was the dumplings. We will be ordering again. I like the set up. Order ahead, know when to pick up and not have to pay when there. I wish it was closer to us but happy to drive once in a while. Thanks for a great meal.

Yelp
My favorite is the Pad Kee Mao and Tom Yum soup. It's delicious! You won't be disappointed.

Pavel C.

Yelp
Whoever is in charge of this place is completely insane . Only way to get food here , is to order it online . forgot sake this is a food truck , not Michelin star restaurant .

Darla G.

Yelp
I tried this place today for the first time!!!! I have to say it's the best Thai I have had in Austin!!! It's worth the drive out here... but I'm lucky to live in walking distance! We had the Thai fried rice with shrimp!!! The shrimp is actually super fresh and the rice was just a bonus! The curry is to die for and the Pad Thai was perfect! U have to order online or call in and expect an hour wait. But it's ok... because once u get ur food you will see why everyone loves it! We will only be ordering Thai from this place!!! It's a food truck but they should be opening restaurants all over Austin in my opinion!

Luisa C.

Yelp
Honestly, at this moment I haven't tried their food and will update or post again when I do, but I was a bit disappointed that I had to order online and wait an hour when I walked up to order. I hope their food is good because I prefer to support small businesses. If you're looking for an experience or want to order in person, save yourself some time and order online from your location then pick up. Food was good but I doubt we'll be returning. Seeing the responses from the owner to other reviews has me inclined to not support this owner.

Yelp
DO NOT order if you plan on eating at Suds Monkey! The trailer will LIE to your face, and say it's okay to take food, to make a sale! However, Suds will deny entry and ask that you eat in the car. Just a friendly FYI, before you get here, spend $40, wait 45mins for food, and end up tossing it.

Dan C.

Yelp
I want to thank Aroi Thai and the owner for reaching out directly to explain the issue with filling our order and arranging later to fill our order. The owner immediately contacted us and made things right. I really appreciate the personal touch and checking in multiple times on arranging a later pickup and ensuring we had a great experience. The food was amazing - enjoyed the curries, crab rice, steak and noodles. We all enjoyed it. Great flavor and the right amount of heat. We will back. Thanks Jo for the great service and follow up!!!

Monique C.

Yelp
food is delicious been coming here for years no issues with service I live in dripping springs
google avatar

Andrea W.

Yelp
Great Thai option for Saturday night takeout. Better Thai food than we've been able to find at any other places in the area. Don't wait too late to order because they run out and stop taking orders.
google avatar

James F.

Yelp
Folks in North Hays County aren't used to the food trailer scene. For instance, the metropolis of Dripping Springs has banned them from asphalt and or pavement. A few have popped up using gravel underneath as a way to skirt the city council imposed statues. Plenty of portable action in Austin proper; not so much out here. But, what about outside DS city limits in Austin's ETJ? Party on food trailer peeps. Any kind of desirable Asian is totally welcome out here in the sticks. After my visit a few days ago, I was screaming BRICK AND MORTAR all the way thru my meal. I started with the dumplings. Interesting addition of the water chestnut producing a crisp interior bite along with the chicken. Next bites were the fried cheese rolls. OK, I admit the use of cream cheese in Asian cuisine especially sushi is rampant and totally Americanized. However, these are rolls of joy mixed with mushrooms and onion. My Pad Thai with chicken had only one issue. Ordered at the spice level 4 out of 5, somehow they had to correct it after it was already in the Styrofoam container. That adjustment made it to about 1/4 of the noodles in the dish. 80 percent mild, 20 percent of delicious heat. Also, LOVE the whole peanuts versus the crushed version usually seen at most Thai places. I swear they are just Planters brand nuts; somehow the extra addition of salty and spice made for a unique taste. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Michael B.

Yelp
Slow, not over friendly, nor do they seem to care that they often make you wait 30-45 minutes longer than they told you. I no longer order from them.
google avatar

Shane R.

Yelp
Horrible service. Very rude. Extremely long wait for food that is average at best. Much better Thai options across the street

Megan R.

Yelp
Got togo food here tonight instead of simply pho by Austin. Worth the money and super good tasting food. A little bit of a longer side for the wait but totally worth it. Sesame chicken and Pad Thai are amazing!!!! If you haven't had it, definitely try it!!!

Yelp
New favorite Thai place, hands down. I had heard great things but never had a chance to stop by. When I saw they take orders online...stupid me for not finding it sooner!!! This place is amazing. I ordered the drunken noodles with tofu and it is the best damn noodles I have had outside of Thailand. I'm going to inhale the entire thing even if I'm full because it is so damn delicious. I got to the truck right at the time when the e-mail approximated. He apologetically informed me to give him three min. Of course!!! (I hope people don't give these guys crap for a few min wait....) When I got home, they had included two egg rolls for free. It was a nice surprise. I was so happy to hear they're busier than ever before. Please know that many of us truly appreciate your hard work and customer service. I hope y'all continue to succeed!!

JR L.

Yelp
Heard really good things about this place. Walked up and ordered and told it would take 1 hour and 45 minutes to make. I swallowed and said okay. I had heard really good things about this place. The person taking the order seemed to think he was a pretty big deal with a 1 hour and 45 minute wait and all. He was wearing a shirt with the California state flag on it, and I wanted to warn him against such expression in Hill Country. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and asked him if he was from CA. He said he was wearing the shirt ironically. Which is actually super funny, but not sure where the irony is. Then, with so many questions, I asked him if he had ever been to CA. He said he had been to Fosneyland when he was 8 years old ("and he had fun because he wasn't awake yet"). Okay. That was weird. Just don't mess up my order, okay? They messed up my order. Chicken instead of beef, not a huge deal. Then the owner yelled at me that all his employees repeat the order 4 times. Yeah? Well not the woke to CA dude. They corrected it and within hours I had my food. Kinda dry beef.

Yelp
We've been ordering from Aroi Thai Cuisine for at least a couple years. The food is freshly made and every dish that we order is delicious. They use fresh ingredients and pay attention to details. They offer take out, and since the food is freshly made, they assign you a time for pick up. Online ordering is quick and easy. The only service that I would like is delivery. They are a welcome addition to the Dripping Springs area. I recommend them for tasty food.

K G.

Yelp
Wife said friends liked this place so walked over to try it. No walk-up ordering, 45 minute wait and a large QR code staring us in the face. If you're a food truck/trailer, then act like one. And worse, if this is the new look of food retail, I'm out.
google avatar

Lucie L.

Yelp
I seriously dont understand the raves about this place. The portions were small, food terrible, and service the absolute worst. This is Thai imitations at the most. Perhaps it is catered to the American taste buds. Maybe that's why it was so bad. There are 2 legit Thai places in all of Austin and this one doesn't even come close.
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
We got the basil fried rice. It was good not great but I guess it is really good for being outside Austin. It wasn't the most authentic place I've been and it does take awhile to get your food. But overall, I'm happy with my order and will go again next time I'm on my way to dripping springs!
google avatar

Lin H.

Yelp
Come cross to this amazing thai food while visiting my cousin in the area. I ordered Drunken noodle with Shrimps and Chicken; it was tasty and full of favors! Definitely come back if I visited this area again Tip: Call ahead for order 15 -30 mins. They are very busy at dinner times
google avatar

Curtis G.

Yelp
The service is neither fancy (it's a food truck) nor fast, but the food was good (and decently spicy). I had a cup of the Tom Yum soup - while I've had better, this was still very tasty and I imagine that I will order it again. For my entree I had Pad See Ew (I wanted Pad Kee Mao but didn't see it on the menu). The Pad See Ew was hot and tasty. I would order it again but would like to try other things on the menu.

Dan V.

Yelp
The food is 4 star. The service is 1. I used their app to order. They texted to confirm my order and noted that I would receive a text when my order was ready. After an hour and a half wait I approached the window that had a sign indicating that the restaurant was closed. There was a young man still working that could not have been ruder. Her told me that they didn't text me because they didn't have my number. I showed them that they had texted me earlier confirming the order and suggested that they did have my number. He stared me down as if I had called his mother a whore. The food is good but it is hardly worth the side of attitude that it was served with. My order had been sitting for nearly 45 min and they didn't even have the sense to offer an apology

Yelp
This is by far the BEST Thai food I've ever had! When we moved here from California, two local moms were talking about how good it is, so, I decided to give it a try... all I can say is that this is the best secret in town. The food is not only amazing but healthy and light. Now, it's worth a mention... the first time I went there it was such a long wait, we left empty-handed. The secret is to pre-order online or to call in your order ahead of time. It's located across from BELTERRA shopping center, near JOLT coffee, in a RED food truck.

Charles B.

Yelp
Really good food... sesame chicken n pad Thai is the move, Both are consistently good along with green curry
google avatar

Celena S.

Yelp
I'm not a big fan of Thai food, so when I get it I go with fried rice with that being said I've had it twice from here and do not like it. There is a smell to it that is so overpowering that I just couldn't eat it. My daughter who is a big eater couldn't eat it either, and that is saying a lot. We've gone when it wasn't busy so unlike the other reviews we didn't have to wait long and the staff were very nice. At night the trees all lit up is are so pretty. It was nice to sit out under the stars with the trees lit up.

Dan M.

Yelp
The food was okay, I've had better and much worse. The customer service was pretty poor, the interaction I had with the woman working the window was unpleasant. I will give the benefit of the doubt and assume they were busy and she didn't want to answer my questions because she was stressed out, but probably not the business to be in if you cannot remain calm while busy. The biggest issue to me is their online ordering system. If you select "ASAP" as the option for pickup time it will charge you for your order prior to showing you when you can pick it up. Almost anywhere can get your pickup order in 30 minutes or less, maybe 45 if slammed. This was an hour. To charge the card without telling you how long it will be and then show you an hour wait is ridiculous. If I knew it would be an hour prior to ordering I would have gone elsewhere. To their credit it was ready when they said it would be. Again the food was okay, it is not worth an hour wait.

Mark H.

Yelp
We've lived in Driftwood for two years, but only recently learned about Aroi from a neighbor. It's easy to miss...a modest food truck tucked away next to a Uhaul dealership just outside Suds Monkey. But now that we've tried them, we are big fans. Their food is absolutely fresh and delicious and everything we have tried is amazing. They are VERY busy, but ordering online is very easy. If you order early on the day, you will be assured that your order is ready at the selected time. Try it. Some of the best Thai food we've had in a very long time!
google avatar

Sebastian P.

Yelp
Good. Nice to have a food truck like this far south in austin. Havent tried everything but seeemed fairly good from the 2 times i came

Tyler B.

Yelp
Where do ya'll buy your chicken? The leather mart?! Your chicken fried rice is moderate at best. You have a closed sign up when you are still open. Your customer service is absolute $h!t!!!! You're done.

Katie N.

Yelp
Love this place! I've been coming here for several years now and it never disappoints! Their sesame chicken, pad thai, fried cheese roll & fried egg roll are always my go-toos! The people that own the place are super sweet. I would recommend ordering food right when they open because they can get pretty busy and it can take a while.
google avatar

Brianna D.

Yelp
Got the drunken noodles with beef and extra noodles! Has a kick to it and tastes amazing! Wait was longer than most but very much worth the wait!
google avatar

Rene T.

Yelp
I think this is the best Thai food in town. By far the best Pad Thai. It's super fresh and great price.
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
Next to Sway, this is the best Thai in austin! Their cheese fried appetizer is one of my favorites. The sesame chicken is amazing! Their food is some of the cleanest Thai food I have ever had, you can tell the ingredients are high quality.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Stopped in at 8:08 pm on a Friday night to AIT down and grab some dinner. Walked up to the window to order and the lady asks if we were picking up carryout. We said no we would like to eat here. She then explained they have absolutely no food left, nothing at all. They close at 9 pm and had sold out of every single dish before 8 pm, in my opinion this is a terrible way to run a restaurant. Wish I could say if it was good or bad but I'll never be back to try it after that las experience.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
The food is excellent, the rudeness from the lady running the cashier is why I will not be coming back.

Melissa O.

Yelp
Great food like really great but rude staff like REALLY rude. Every order there's always some kind of rude tone or comment but then we leave and eat our delicious food. It's an unhealthy cycle
google avatar

Jarron D.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. Chicken Pad See Ewe and Chicken Pad Thai are great! Chicken Drunken Noodle is good but it can be very spicy. My wife and I love to split a Chicken Pad See Ewe and a Shrimp Basil Fried Rice. It's plenty of food. Call ahead and order. It takes 30-45 minutes because the food is fresh and cooked to order.
google avatar

Gerry -n- Donna G.

Yelp
What great food! Super flavors all balanced perfectly! We loved the curry and the dumplings! It's a food truck so build in some time to your order! i really was the best Thai ever
google avatar

Christie C.

Yelp
GREAT Pad Thai! I mean, GREAT!!! It wouldn't hurt to get a couple extra pieces of lime, but I won't complain. Tom Yum is decent, but definitely go for the Pad Thai. Also, if you call in your order, expect a wait time of ~45 minutes, but as long as you know that in advance, there's nothing wrong with this place.
google avatar

Jensen J.

Yelp
This is the best Thai restaurant in SW Austin. I can't compliment them enough. The clear noodle soup and drunken noodles are the best. Basil Thai Fried rice is awesome.

Heather E.

Yelp
This food truck is fantastic. The food always tastes hot and delicious. It is some of the best thai food I have had around Austin. The flavors are authentic. Be prepared to wait a while for your food though. We usually call ahead to place our order. Sometimes it takes a couple phone tries before they answer, because they stay busy. They will then tell you a time when your food will be ready so you can plan to pick it up without wasting time. I love this place and will definitely return again and again. P.s. theres another aroi thai evidently in NYC, so make sure you find the correct number for the Austin Aroi. I have called the NYC aroi and placed a to go order accidentally and they told me it was not the first time thats happened before. The Drunken noodles and Massaman curry are my favorite items.
google avatar

Patra C.

Yelp
Having been to Thailand I can tell you that this is the most authentic Thai food on Austin. Ive to many thai restaurant and all have been very plans and missing the true flavor of Thailand. Even an old gentleman sitting next to us who spent many years in Thailand said this is the most authentic tasting Thai food in austin. It is ina trailer.. dont let that stop you. You can call ahead or sit at there clean picnic table. They are also very friendly and polite. Menu seems limited... but all I care about is curry curry curry and Tom ka soup. Which is delicious also and Slovenia spicy. Their 2 chilly hotness is texas hot.
google avatar

LC S.

Yelp
Excellent authentic Thai food! I haven't eaten anything I didn't like. I'll keep coming back!! I'm only giving four stars because they've messed my order up a few times. Example: gave me white rice when I had paid extra for brown.
google avatar

Deanna S.

Yelp
One of the only Thai places in the Dripping Springs area, and although they don't have a ton of options, it's more than I would expect from a food truck. I've been 3 times so far, and the food has always been good (not great). The first time I got the shrimp in a blanket, which were really good, and drunken noodles, which were good, but after eating about a quarter of it, the flavor was so rich, I couldn't eat any more. The second time I got sesame chicken, which was good, but nothing speciaThe last time I went, they were out of rice (which is fine, I will happily eat noodles) but when I asked for sesame chicken, they said they couldn't make it because it usually comes with rice. can you feel my pain? I told them I would be fine if they gave me the sesame chicken with noodles, but for some reason that just wasn't possible, so I ended up just going somewhere else for dinner that night.
google avatar

Brittani W.

Yelp
I have been coming here for several years and really never disappointed. Tonight we tried the green curry for the first time and it was amazing! My daughter loves the sesame chicken and it's a small portion so really good for kids. Overall another great experience at Aroi.

Mike S.

Yelp
The food is very good - especially for a food truck. Be sure to order ahead as the wait for food can be an hour or more. They also run out of food from time to time. Even if you order ahead and are given a pick up time, it's VERY likely your food will not be ready on time. I'm writing this while waiting in my car for my food which was supposed to be ready 15 minutes ago. I've gotten in the habit of not even leaving my house until the pick up time in order to reduce the wait.
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
We recently moved to the area from South Austin and we were desperately missing our go-to Thai place, Saps. Thank goodness we discovered Aroi. Everything we've order has been delicious, but we always make sure to order the crab fried rice. We order online for pick-up and it is always ready on time.
google avatar

Dusty R.

Yelp
This was my first time to have Thai food, and I was impressed. I got Shrimp Blankets as an appetizer. It's shrimp in a fried egg roll blanket, served with sweet and sour sauce. It was delicious. I could have eaten several servings. For my entree I had Garlic Chicken with white rice. It was very tasty, and not spicy at all. When it comes to spicy foods, if you're a wimp like me, this dish is a good choice! Overall it was a great first Thai food experience! I'll be back.
google avatar

Tyler H.

Yelp
*Warning, call ahead since it's not super fast food but still worth it* Well, found my new Thai place! Called my order in over the phone and went to pick it up and found out it was a food truck. I was expecting decent food but nothing great. The food was great! I like my pad Thai with a bit of heat and there was none but I didn't ask for it either so I can't complain. The sesame chicken that my wife got was the reason I will for sure come back. The chicken was amazing and not at all cheap quality. I'll try the cashew chicken next time and compare it but for now I have to say I'm very pleased. We also got the chicken fried rice (adult portion) for our child and that was really good too. Flavor was good and not just a soy sauce taste. I called it in and it was 50-55 min wait. I picked it up about 45 min after the order and it was just finishing up. The person who called to order while I was there was given an hour and 10 min wait time. I would NOT walk up to order, call ahead.
