Quite little place. The server was very energetic and helpful. Food was good but not quite authentic Indian spicy/hot. Place seems like it’s in the middle of a remodel or something, but it was clean. They’re not able to make many accommodations for vegan or gluten free but they do have a lot of vegetarian dishes

When we went in, we were the only people dining in on a Sunday afternoon. Wondered why the place isn’t crowded given the ratings. When the food came in, the aroma was wonderful. Rest the food spoke for the ratings. Pleasantly amazed with all the delicacies, thoroughly enjoyed each serving. Good thing, my toddler also had her whole lunch! Definitely recommend this place if you’re in the area!

We ordered Samosa, Lamb Pepper Fry for appetizers. The samosa was undercooked. Lamb pepper fry didn't look anything like the one shown in the online menu. A decent place to order food as it stays open till 10pm contrary to it's counterparts in Ann Arbor area. As we have pointed out that the samosa was undercooked they replaced it which is commendable. Very satisfied with the service. The chicken korma was okay. Butter naan was pretty good and buttery.

Google
GREAT FOOD!! we came in looking to try a new (to us) restaurant, and we’re not let down. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked! The spice levels are American so it’s not too spicy. Elton our server was super friendly and helpful. It has a fun modern vibe. I highly recommend!!

HORRIBLE. Ordered paneer biryani ($16) and garlic naan ($2.99) for delivery tonight. Never again. The biryani flavor was SO artificial and offputting. It honestly tasted like chemicals. Paneer was spongy and gross. Even the color looked artificial like it was dyed. Raita was gross and liquidy. Naan tasted like it had been microwaved. Unfortunately most of my dinner went in the garbage. I would not recommend this at all.

Just moved to the area and am checking out places as I get settled in. I was greeted right as I entered, provided a menu, and was told that I could sit at any table to right of the entrance. The room is small but suitable. After seating myself and looking over the menu, I was brought the fanciest water pitcher. I had decided on my order and placed it at that time. My food came out quickly and was delicious. I had the lamb kadai (curry), rice, plain naan, and a mango lassi. I saw other reviews about high prices and small portions. I felt the portions and price were aligned to other places I've been in my travels. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and will either return or order delivery in the future.

Google
We ordered paneer tikka masala, dal and nan. We could not eat anything looking at the color added in paneer. The nan were not fresh and frozen out of fridge warmed and served. Unfortunately, we still had to pay for the food. Extremely poor experience will never visit this place again.

The food is good! However, I wasn't sure if the workers were having a bad day or if there was simply a language barrier or both. They definitely didn't seem to be intentional in their effort towards kindness and communication. I didn't feel like they were glad that we chose to eat at their restaurant. It is always a good practice to be intentional in communication, making sure everything is understood, and to do all this with a smile when there are language barriers and when ordering anything. People need patience. Patience doesn't have to be a bitter fruit. Patience ought to produce hope and hope brings forth joy. When we are patient with others, we can expect that if they are having a bad day or just plain impatient, that perhaps they can learn to be patient with others who are patient. Furthermore, not all patience is actually patience. If there is no kindness or joy in our waiting then there is no power to overcome the impatience of others. Patience is far more than restraining anger, frustration, hurtful words, etc. Patience is far more than having to wait for an expected end. Patience is being kind and having a sense of joy while waiting for that expected end. If we do not like impatience, rudeness, etc then we need to be patient and kind and all true acts of patience and kindness will be attended with a measure of joy.

Yelp
Pricey but this is downtown AA so it makes sense. At least the portion was good for the amount paid. Had the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. One medium and other hot. The hot was perfect! Medium felt a bit lacking in hotness so if you're a spice lover I would suggest getting it spicier than usual. My partner and I were dining in a little over 30mins before closing but the server was great and the food came out nice and hot. They were pretty busy the hour before they close and I can see why. Would come back if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Do not order through the Yelp app!!!! The entrees are higher priced on the yelp app than if you call it in or order on their website. I ordered chicken korma, chicken Tikka Masala, an okra dish with 2 orders of garlic Naan. $12-14 per entre would have made more sense, but they were $19-20 through the app. We did carry out, not delivery. The portions were certainly not worth $19-20 per entree. To be honest, I am partially at fault because I wasn't paying close attention and was shocked when it was around $70. I'm not sure why they have the hidden fees added into the entrees through the Yelp app. The food itself was ok. The tikka masala was the best (5/5 no complaints). The okra dish was good but they had some tough pieces of okra in there as if it was not stewed long enough. The korma was bland, and I would skip and order the tikka masala x2 next time. There was a lot of chicken and okra in each container. The naan was really disappointing because some pieces were inedible. They were really hard. I'm not sure if they were over baked or if they had just been roasting under a heat lamp all day. With the combination of the high prices and not wow-factor food, I don't think we will be back.

Yelp
Amazing service!! Such kind staff and the garlic naan is amazing. Clean environment, and very speedy service!

Yelp
This was my first time ordering from here. I ordered through a delivery app and got the gobi Manchurian (one of my favorite dishes) and samosa's. I like spicy food, don't get me wrong, and can handle heat, but this was so spicy I couldn't eat it. I generally order medium, but today I ordered it mild because I wasn't in the mood for spicy either. My lips are burning. My nose is running. This was two appetizer dishes, and with a 50% off coupon, delivery, and tip, it was $36. Which was a little pricey for what I got.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Tender lamb curry -delicious and fairly priced for the portion and the quantity of meat. The lamb was cooked perfectly-it has clearly been slow-cooked long enough for the extra fat to taste good with the meat. It's in downtown Ann Arbor, but has a few parking spots for pickup. Kind people. Kitty corner from Blank Slate Creamery. I have only gone here once so I will update if I have more info and more food to review. Online ordering is convenient for pickup.

Rachel M.

Yelp
Paid $23.99 for butter chicken. This is how much chicken I got. Everything else in the container is just sauce. Pretty skimpy and disappointing meal for the price. Don't waste your money.

Jesus E.

Yelp
Based on previous experiences I like Aroma but it's never my first choice just based on the plethora of other options for Indian food. However, my takeout tonight was the first time I was disappointed. We ordered dinner via their website for pick up and that all went smoothly. We got there on time and it was a quick and easy pick up. I got the chicken tikka masala (spice level hot) and it was definitely not to their usual standard. It honestly tasted just like tomato soup. I literally had to run to my cupboard and add some garam masala, curry powder, and chili powder to my dish to make it not taste like soup. I wish I was joking. (Once I added these it actually tasted pretty good so yay for my cooking instincts I guess). I wish I'd had some methi to really pump it up! The garlic naan we ordered was pretty good but a bit tough in parts. My partner got the chili shrimp and he liked his dish. Only one of our dishes comes with rice included so we ordered an extra portion but we only got one small portion of rice in our order. I echo others' sentiments that for the size of the portions, prices are a little high. I'm of course willing to pay if the quality and flavor match what they charge but in this case it definitely didn't.

Skylar E.

Yelp
everything was toooooo yummy I went here with my beautiful princess girlfriend, and it was so so so yummy. The cashier even serenaded us with his guitar. loved it!

Annette J.

Yelp
Got delivery from Aroma a bit ago and it was great! I really enjoyed my butter chicken and the garlic naan that came with it. Delivery was through a third party but it was fast and the food arrived hot and as ordered. They're pretty close to us so in the future I'll probably just do carryout and pick it up myself. They have their own online ordering system through their website that makes going directly through them a snap.

Yelp
I came in with a group of four yesterday. We were greeted and seated by Elton. He was very quick to grab us some water and make some recommendations of appetizers for the group. We agreed to snag some of the 65 style chicken while considering our entrees. He comes back and we strike up a conversation about Dubai, Ann Arbor, and just general small talk and we ask him about some Chai Tea, he tells us he will let us try some, and we each get a small sample. We order our entrees when he comes back. He did a very good job explaining all of the dishes we had questions on. Unfortunately, once our entrees arrived I think our appetizer had been forgotten about. My entree the Chicken Mughalai was delicious. I tried the lamb vindaloo and chicken korbu? i think it was, and i was happy with my decision. I would go back to try something new, absolutely.

Tori W.

Yelp
Cannot recommend enough! The server had excellent recommendations and the food came out quick. Great location with views of a busy downtown corner of Ann Arbor!

Kevin G.

Yelp
Quick impulse purchase to buy some Garlic Naan and a diet coke. The naan was not a toasty crisp hot rather the naan seemed heated or reheated. It was hot, but floppy. Had better Trader Joe's naan heated in my oven. Can't comment on the quality of their other food Service was kind.

Saay F.

Yelp
Food was great! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered the butter chicken and mango lassi. Everting was delish. I do wish that the plate presentation was better! Free parking behind the restaurant.

Kent F.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late night meal. Was promptly served and really enjoyed this meal - Sang Paneer and Garlic Naan. Parking next door was easy.

michelle h.

Yelp
First and last time ordering from this restaurant. Ordered the butter chicken and the Palak Paneer. Mild. Both were inedible due to the level of spice. We ordered one serving of bread with a few of the dipping sauces and our bill came to over $60. What's most ridiculous is the serving size! Maybe a pint and a half each. I guess that doesn't matter since we weren't able to eat any of it, but man what a rip off!

Eric W.

Yelp
I've ordered from here a few times, usually from GrubHub. But I've gotten rid of it because they never deliver to my place correctly, always are late, etc. but tonight with the power out from the storms, I ordered directly online - very easy to do - and got wonderful gobi 65 and chicken Manchurian. So delicious! I hadn't ordered the chicken before and when I got there to pick it up I mentioned that I couldn't tell if rice came with it. I was told that since it's more of an appetizer dish (which may be true but it's big!!!) it doesn't come with rice. But they immediately offered to give me some and came back with two containers full! Outstanding food, outstanding customer service, and a great ambiance all around. If I had to post one negative, it's the small parking area. But, doesn't detract one bit!!

Gupta N.

Yelp
Microwaved Naans and too pricey. Our son being at UOM, we will be visiting Ann Arbor frequently but it was first and the last time for this place. I hate to leave negative comments, this is to set the expectations of one's who are planning to go there.

Mick C.

Yelp
I am so hot and cold on this place. Tonight I had a lamb vindaloo and aloo gobi. I requested extra spicy for the vindaloo and found it to be no more than medium. It was just missing....something distinctive - more spice, more salt, more sourness. It was just ok. The aloo gobi was pretty bland - I wouldn't order it again. In previous visits I have enjoyed my dishes. This time, I was left feeling like I need to try elsewhere. Not bad, just not interesting.

Abdullah A.

Yelp
We had a take out double data. My lamb vindaloo was perfectly pleasant; savory, spicy, plenty of lamb, good portion size, reasonable price. The gulab jamin was a tasty dessert. I did have a couple of bones to pick: 1. The online menu is confusing. The majority of the menu items do not show, and you have to click a "show more" bottom that is somewhat camouflaged. The couple that we dined with did not see the button and were only able to order from the very limited menu that was otherwise apparent. I almost made the same mistake myself. 2. I did not feel very well after eating my food. I got a headache, stomach ache, and my mood turned funky. I do not know why this happened. I don't think I'll be back unforunately.

Kim P.

Yelp
We ate at Aroma last Saturday and it was our first time eating Indian food. It was absolutely delicious! Elton was so personable and knowledgeable. He shared some of his culinary techniques and made our experience very enjoyable. we can't wait to go back soon!

Nada S.

Yelp
We visited this restaurant on Monday for the first time, and we will not be returning, the food is not authentic as you think, the food very bland, I got the aloo and gobi dish, the cauliflower was very crunchy and the same for the potatoes, could have used a little more cooking, And you get paper plates and plastic utensils. Not worth the price, and do not recommend this restaurant.

Grace K.

Yelp
The biryani's are so flavorful. Though "medium" spice level is pretty darn spicy (probably on par with how spicy they are used to in India - I'm just not used to it). The "mild" spice level was great for me - it's actually spicy too, just not burning-tongue spicy. And I love curries. Anything in a saucy deal is really good. I can never remember what I order - I just kinda pick whatever randomly to try it out.

Olivia M.

Yelp
Service was amazing and the food was even better! Had it last night and literally driving there today to order more.

Rebecca R.

Yelp
Aroma is good not great but good enough. I had the chicken tikka masala. It was good. I have had better and worse. It was fairly priced and quick. That's about all I got.

Ainsley E.

Yelp
Was sad to see Satchel's go but excited at the prospect of having an Indian restaurant in that area of downtown if it sticks around. Wanted to support a new business and they seem to have a good reputation at their other location. We ordered: - Garlic naan - lamb biryani - paneer korma The naan was pretty soft but had good flavor. I put it in the toaster to crisp it up a bit. The lamb biryani was good, especially with the sauces that come with it to add more flavor. The paneer korma wasn't my favorite. The sauce was spicy (I ordered medium) but it didn't have much depth of flavor, and kind of an odd scent. I know I've had korma before but can't remember exactly what it "should" be like to compare. It was advertised there were lots of vegetables in this dish, and there weren't in what I received, unless they were blended up in the sauce? It was kind of strange. There were also a bunch of leaves that I weren't sure whether they were part of the dish or just herbs (kind of like a bay leaf) and needed removing or were meant to eat. If they were meant to eat they weren't a pleasant texture and I took them out. I wouldn't order that particular dish again. We will probably give this place another shot as we are intrigued by the Indo-Chinese menu items and the different biryanis. Also to give them a bit of time to find their legs, as I understand they opened very recently and may have some kinks to smooth over.

N C.

Yelp
Loved this place. My first time and it won't be the last. I had the Chicken Vindaloo. It was really good until I had some of my husbands. Wow! When we go back, I'm ordering his. He had the Lamb Pasanda. It's goat, so I'm not sure why it's called lamb. Anyway, it was so creamy and delicious. Their naans were great. Especially the garlic naan. The serving sizes are exactly one meal, so don't expect left overs. And the mango lassi are small, but delicious. I did order the chicken med. spice and the lamb spicy and it turned out to be mild and medium. I like heat with my Indian food.

Andy I.

Yelp
Strongly recommended. This place is really good. Our dining-out habit has been in hibernation for the past two years (Surprise!), and we really miss things that we just can't cook ourselves. Lamb, for example. I'm pretty sure that I'm never going to cook lamb in any way, shape or form. Not because I don't like lamb (because I do), but because it's a pricey cut of meat and I lack the time, inclination and money to cook it often enough to be able to cook it really well. Let's add Indian food into the mix. I actually make a pretty good generic curry, but butter chicken and tikka masala are things that I usually leave to those who make Indian food for a living. Enter Aroma Indian Cuisine. We ordered "samosa chat" as an appetizer, and lamb vindaloo and shrimp tikka masala for entrees. All of them were superior. You might be familiar with samosas, but samosa chat is a couple of samosas that have been lightly mashed and covered with a spicy chickpea curry. Excellent. The lamb vindaloo was similarly great, both spicy hot (as ordered) but also flavorful and cooked just right. As for the shrimp tikka masala, my dining companion said, "This is really, really good." Nuff said. Bonus: The package at pickup looked kind of small for what we'd ordered, but in fact we have leftovers for tomorrow. That's always a plus. This was our first time to Aroma Indian Cuisine, but I think we're likely to be back in the near future.

Chantelle R.

Yelp
Very delicious food and even better customer service. Our waitress was very informative with what we should try. Glad to find a great spot for Indian in AA.

Jonathan N.

Yelp
Probably the best Indian food for its value in Ann Arbor. Preferably for take out rather than dine in experience. I ordered the Fish 65 Biryani and it came out very well. Naan bread was soft rather than too hard. Butter chicken was also very delicious and creamy. The restaurant itself is very clean and service was very attentive. Will definitely go back when given the chance.

James D.

Yelp
Got a chai and lamb korma. Service and food was great. Really authentic and dishes come with rice. Music selection was pretty solid too. Open pretty late and near Blind Pig and Live, so perfect place to go with friends on a night out. Will be back!

Chayan K.

Yelp
If you're in DT AA and you are not eating here everyday, I don't know whats wrong with you! The place has amazing food! Probably best for carry out since eating in will get you plastic spoons and paper plates. But the food makes it worth all of it. Ive had indian everywhere and this one is at the top of my list!

Mark R.

Yelp
I wrote an in depth review on Google that may be helpful to you. All and all a good CARRY OUT restaurant. I felt the dine in experience was good only because of Elton the waiter.

Syntia S.

Yelp
We wanted to try something different when we went to visit our son at U of M. We found this place walking downtown. It's small and doesn't look like much. When we walked it in it was clean and smelled delicious. We were seated almost immediately by a friendly staff member. Felt very welcomed, got us water immediately. We scanned the menu and found some delicious options - Chicken 65Lamb BiryaniThe waiter recommended the a lamb dish and we decided to get that too. Everyone enjoyed the dishes from our 8 yr old, to our 20 year old and our older selves. Soda was on the house and that was a nice touch :) We will definitely be back because of the wonderful service and the delicious dishes!

Jenica A.

Yelp
Ordered once, I would say it was okay customer service, portion size and food! Would try again to see if my opinion changes.

Richard P.

Yelp
Great take-out food. I would not do inside eating again (cheap plastic silverware and cardboard plates). Felt like a fast food atmosphere with the high class prices. On the food quality side, excellently prepared Indian dishes prepared with authentic ingredients.

Siham D.

Yelp
It wasn't good experience at all. flies all over the place died and alive which means is not clean! Plus the food is horrible, I ordered biryani chicken, chicken was the worse quality parts ever. When I made the remark to the waitress she said oh bcoz you had to order other kind of chicken ! What is this excuse !? When I ordered it you didn't mention that it has to be this or that kind of chk ! Plus why the hell even this parts is in the plate! It's uneatable ! the second order the butter chicken was not all that, better than the 1st one but not the best one I ate ! My first and last time in this place. Please make effort on taking care of stuff guys!

Caleb P.

Yelp
This late night meal was served so quickly - each dish being hustled out to our table as soon as it was ready. The fellow who worked behind the counter was super friendly, easy-going - he doubled as our waiter and did an excellent job. The mango lassi was tart and delicious as was the milk/cream dessert.

Yesenia N.

Yelp
This place was great, recently though the quality of food for the price has gone down. The butter chicken I got was watered down and it's weird but the mango lassi was in what appeared to be a kids cup. For the price I expect a bit more quality because this place has been very good in the past. I hope this review steers the cooks in a better direction to maintain quality product worth the bang of your buck. 3.5 stars for food and 4.5 for service

Angie P.

Yelp
First time I ordered, food was fantastic. Eveyting was amazing! Second time it was subpar. The okra was like straw to chew and I had to throw it all out. The rest of the items tasted like they were made a few days ago and re-heated and send my way. Not sure if I will order again but maybe given the first experience being great, I might try and forget the second time experience.

Adith M.

Yelp
Ordered take out a couple of times. Recommend their Chicken 65 (appetizer) and Hyderabad Dum biryani.

Erik W.

Yelp
The one Indian place in Ann Arbor that is better than cardamom, best butter chicken I have ever had and large portions of garlic naan

Avence S.

Yelp
GREAT FOOD!! we came in looking to try a new (to us) restaurant, and we're not let down. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked! The spice levels are American so it's not too spicy. Elton our server was super friendly and helpful. It has a fun modern vibe. I highly recommend!!

Yelp
We pulled into town tired and hungry but not able to check into our room yet. To be honest, we picked the nearest restaurant to our accommodations that had parking. We lucked out! The food was sensational. My partner had the boneless lamb biryani and I had the chicken saag. We ordered plain naan but there was only garlic naan available. The friendly, lovely woman gave us an extra order at no charge. It was pillowy, buttery, garlicky, and tender! Another reviewer said that the raita was just right in consistency with flavor on its own. That reviewer was spot on! Loved the raita! The biryani was so fragrant and gorgeous with grains of yellow and creamy white basmati. There were plenty of lamb chunks! I enjoyed my saag. The chicken was tender and juicy. The saag was so well seasoned! I grew up in Berkeley, CA. The San Francisco Bay Area probably has more different regions of Indian, Pakistani, and Afghani cuisine concentrated in the area as well as a significant East Asian population than any other area in the USA. I've been to Delhi, as well as Nepal, so the Indo China menu makes sense to me. If I was an A2 local, this would be my go-to place for Indian food.

Ed M.

Yelp
The food was quite excellen! decent serving sizes, great menu variety, and the staff is one of the most friendly in town.

Aristophelius M.

Yelp
Please pack your knives and go. The menu was confusing and missing some of the expected staples, the food was cold, the flavors were off.

Naaz N.

Yelp
Love the Indo Chinese dishes, especially the chicken fried rice. This is street food replicated to its truest form. Delicious. The Masala Egg biryani, and Lamb biryani were just too good! We have been to Aroma Farmington and this took it up a notch. Amazing ambience, picked up Lamb Vindaloo style and it is lip smacking delicious! Oh my god couldn't have tasted better Indian food in Ann Arbor. Love this place and wish Aroma the best! Keep up the great food. Will be back.

Abhi P.

Yelp
@Aroma Ann Arbor, this place is so close to everything, amazing food compared to Shalimar, Madras Masala. The food here is definitely different, tasty, aromatic- the spice levels are just right - especially the paneer delicacies, the masala egg biryani, dal tadka. The biryani is flavorful with the right masala and tastes so good! I have never eaten better! The Dal tadka is to die for! I tried the Paneer Tikka masala and the cottage cheese was so succulent! Unbelievable taste! Will visit again!

Ken L.

Yelp
I ordered my food by phone. When I got there it wasn't ready. I ordered it again it still took a half hour to prepare. When I ask what the situation was the lady blamed it on me somehow. I will never go to this place again. Plus it's expensive.
