The Best Indian Restaurants Around Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Aroma does strong renditions of South Indian favorites, including mega-super-giant-sized dosas that are as entertaining to look at as they are enjoyable to eat. The goat biryani truly does justice to the format by bringing remarkable layers of complexity, depth, and savory goodness. There are some surprising and enjoyable highlights sprinkled throughout the menu, too, including almost croissant-like flakey paratha and an okra stir-fry that’s almost too rich to eat on its own (that is, of course, what the rice is for)." - James Norton

Came here because we were in the mood for Indian food. Overall, it was good, but not great. The samosas were a bit undercooked, and the sequencing of food was way off as there were 10 minute gaps between dishes. It wasn't busy as there were only three tables, including ours, during our time in the restaurant. The biryani was spicy, and the dal was not, even though we wanted it to be. That said, the flavors were good, and our dishes were prepared to order. I probably won't be coming back, but I would recommend giving Aroma a try.

Plain rice instead of vegetable biriyani. No vegetables at all except very little sliced carrots. So, had to pay for plain rice. I understand it’s non-vegetarian restaurant and do not know how to make vegetarian dishes but there is no exception to pay for just plain rice. How dare they even serve like this!

Such a nice and beautiful atmosphere. Came here on Diwali holiday and they gave us complementary desserts to try for the holiday. Excellent service from the staff. The food is great, so many great flavors and herbs incorporated. Spice levels were perfect! Everything was so great. Definitely going to be coming back for more!

The food was amazing, went there with my sisters and mother. We over ordered as always but we got to take all the food home :) It was a great dinner for a girls day out!

Don't worry about the ambiance; instead savor the fragrance. What outwardly appears as a generic strip mall place actually is a great representation of the real thing. We were a group of four sharing two starters and four entrees. We all divide our time between Thailand and the US. We are all fans of Indian food. Both Thai and Indian cuisines excel at bringing nuance and layers of flavor to their sauces and curries. And Aroma meets that challenge ably. If you're staying at an airport hotel, spending the day at the Mall Of American-- or even if you're a Twin Cities resident, it's worth savoring what Aroma has to offer. We suspect that most of the restaurant's dinner business is based on takeout and home delivery. My advice is to eat this straight out of the kitchen-- something subtle but significant gets lost when the heat and vapors escape on the way home. And with preparation this good, you'd be missing what distinguishes great Indian food.

Amazing! Don’t let the ambience, cleanliness, service (or lack thereof) fool you. The food here is excellent. I got their fish basted and steamed in spices and it took me straight back to my days in South India! I’ve seen Most people who rave about ‘authentic’ Indian cuisine have no idea what they’re talking about, but this place is it. It may not be authentic to the hyper-local region it draws from, but what it does, it does extremely well!

Three of us went on a Thursday evening, first time at this place. The food was great BUT: two of us were done with our Korma dishes before the third person got their dinner, the Naan we ordered with dinner came with the third person's food, along with the two soda's that were ordered. This place did a lot of take-out while we were there, and it's quite obvious they can't handle a 2/3 full dining room and do take-out also.

Loved the food! The service was quick (got our food within 20 minutes after we ordered). They did a great job with recommending spice levels. Our favorites were the steak vindaloo, chicken korma and garlic naan. We were celebrating a birthday, and they brought out a chocolate drizzled coconut Naan. Overall, great experience!
