The Best Indian Restaurants Around Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Aroma does strong renditions of South Indian favorites, including mega-super-giant-sized dosas that are as entertaining to look at as they are enjoyable to eat. The goat biryani truly does justice to the format by bringing remarkable layers of complexity, depth, and savory goodness. There are some surprising and enjoyable highlights sprinkled throughout the menu, too, including almost croissant-like flakey paratha and an okra stir-fry that’s almost too rich to eat on its own (that is, of course, what the rice is for)." - James Norton

Came here because we were in the mood for Indian food. Overall, it was good, but not great. The samosas were a bit undercooked, and the sequencing of food was way off as there were 10 minute gaps between dishes. It wasn't busy as there were only three tables, including ours, during our time in the restaurant. The biryani was spicy, and the dal was not, even though we wanted it to be. That said, the flavors were good, and our dishes were prepared to order. I probably won't be coming back, but I would recommend giving Aroma a try.

Plain rice instead of vegetable biriyani. No vegetables at all except very little sliced carrots. So, had to pay for plain rice. I understand it’s non-vegetarian restaurant and do not know how to make vegetarian dishes but there is no exception to pay for just plain rice. How dare they even serve like this!

Loved the food! The service was quick (got our food within 20 minutes after we ordered). They did a great job with recommending spice levels. Our favorites were the steak vindaloo, chicken korma and garlic naan. We were celebrating a birthday, and they brought out a chocolate drizzled coconut Naan. Overall, great experience!

Amazing! Don’t let the ambience, cleanliness, service (or lack thereof) fool you. The food here is excellent. I got their fish basted and steamed in spices and it took me straight back to my days in South India! I’ve seen Most people who rave about ‘authentic’ Indian cuisine have no idea what they’re talking about, but this place is it. It may not be authentic to the hyper-local region it draws from, but what it does, it does extremely well!

First time customer. Ordered goat biriyani to go. Flavor was excellent! Garlic basil naan was super! Only downfall was I had more bone than goat meat. Literally, maybe 1oz of meat. I maybe had 8 pieces of meat the size of my index fingernail after eating off the bone. Had 4 bones with no meat. Will totally go back but maybe order chicken biryani next time.

Food was delicious. Very flavorful. Lots of parking space, as this restaurant is located on a strip mall. Restaurant is big, and lots of seating. It was nice and clean inside. When we were here, there were only a couple of people. Food was amazing, and we really enjoyed it all. Would def come back for more if we are ever in town!

The food was so good I was at a loss for words. Highly recommended. I got the garlic and basil naan, a mango lassi, the Goat Korma, and two orders of chicken samosas to go. I apologized to the waiter that I only had two thumbs to give him when he asked me how the food was. BLISS. I biffed it and ate all the food before I took pictures but hey I think that speaks for itself as a testament to how remarkable an eating experience This food was. If you get goat, you should know that even though it’s the best meat, you HAVE to be careful because it comes on sharp bones. The meat is so soft you really can press it off the bone with your spoon and not have to touch but I clean them. I’m the greedy and gluttonous sort that has to clean his bones 😅

EDIT: They truly care about their customers. They called me and apologized for the service they provided as this is not their expectation. I truly appreciated that and I was also offered the same food that I ordered from them, but it was on them and the food was prepared as expected. They gave me extra desserts as well which I am impressed about. Thank you so much Aroma Indian Cuisine! I will definitely recommend my friends to this restaurant. Hi - I ordered takeout from Aroma Indian Cuisine last night based on the restaurant's ratings. I ordered Chicken Tikka Kebab with Naan and some of the kebab was undercooked. It did not taste very good I ordered Butter Chicken and Chicken Jalfrezi for entrees, for both I had mentioned I want them medium or hot. I specifically had also mentioned separately that it at least at the mininum it should be medium spicy. Both of the entrees were sweet! There was no spice in any of them. If you are preparing an entree and you give your customer an option to choose from mild, medium and hot and they choose Hot, please make sure that the food is actually spicy. I also ordered Kulfi Shabnami and it came in a 2 oz cup. I also ordered Kala Jamun and it tasted really stale. I couldn't eat any more of the Kala Jamun because of the stale taste. It seemed like the food was "ready to order" food and had been kept in their containers for a couple days. Once an order is placed, they just heat up the pre-prepared food before serving it to the customer. We live an hour away from the place and a friend of ours was coming to our place to hangout so I had requested him to bring the food along with them. And no, the food does not go stale in just an hour. To everyone, I am not sure if this is the same food they provide when you go to eat in the restaurant, but for takeouts I would be careful. Money wasted, truly! I would not be coming back and I would not recommend my friends to come to this restaurant as well.
