Really good friends took me there for dinner. They were very excited about, but it was a strike out...
It was a Monday night, the place was empty so they could have spoiled us rotten.
It seems to me they are aiming for fine service, but a lot of training is needed. I asked for one of the specials which came with a couple of sides; I said that I would skip the sides and the waitress (literally) argued with me and insisted (twice) that I should take the sides because the dish was going to cost the same.
I just stared at her and repeated myself, "no sides please".
In general, service was average, nothing to write home about.
The ambiance was ok.... Clean, comfortable noise level. Going back to striving for fine service... Why, in God's name, were the manager(s) sitting in the dinning room with laptops where diners could see them? ... and then another group of employees hanging out at the bar staring at you like if you were a strange creature?
The food, well this was the biggest disappointment... I asked for the Branzino, it was served headless in butterfly cut (no problem there); however, it was small and skinny as a tilapia and absolutely overcooked. They just killed the dish!
...and two sides to go with it.... My guess is that the fish was so small, they needed to force the sides on me to make the plate look better.
The ceviche was great!
My advise, stick to the culinary techniques, ingredients and flavors that you really know, but more importantly, stick with a menu that makes you unique and true to who you are.
I have had some spectacular Causas, Jalea de Mariscos and Chaufas. Apply yourself, create, deconstruct and be unique.
Good luck!
