3 Best Day Trips From Copenhagen

"Established in 1859, ARoS is one of the oldest public museums in Denmark. It has a host of impressive exhibits, but one of the most famous is the rainbow panorama, a rainbow-colored glass walkway that sits on the building's rooftop. Also, the ARoS FOOD HALL is reason alone to visit the museum. Located on the top floor, the light-filled restaurant offers a selection of freshly baked breads, cheeses, and other delicious Danish bites made from local ingredients. They even have their own rooftop garden and hive, which delivers superb honey. As one of the largest art museums in in Northern Europe, this is one you don't want to miss." - Mary Holland

Aarhus Art Museum To Unveil World's Largest 'Skyspace' Installation in 2026

Modern art fans are being drawn to this museum by the announcement of a huge new James Turrell Skyspace, set to open as a permanent addition on June 19, 2026. Described as hosting ‘monumental works of art and architecture’, the museum will feature Turrell’s largest Skyspace to date, titled ‘As Seen Below – The Dome’, which includes an underground tunnel leading into a vast dome-topped room that looks like the interior of a futuristic space station or a strange liminal dream space. At 16 metres tall and 40 metres wide, matching the diameter of Rome’s Pantheon dome, the space is designed as an immersive sensory artwork where Turrell manipulates light and darkness to ‘shape the experience of seeing rather than delivering an image’, inviting visitors to experience the shifting colours and qualities of natural light and to contemplate big ideas like our relationship to nature, the sky, and our shared planet. The museum is undergoing a broader improvement scheme alongside this, adding a new underground gallery and the Art Square, a permanent outdoor space for art exhibitions, and a spokesperson says it is ‘delighted’ to become home to Turrell’s biggest Skyspace, calling it a new cultural landmark for Aarhus that looks pretty spectacular based on preview images. - Annie McNamee

We had a nice time and the art was great. Though it was the noisiest museum I've ever been to, both the exhibits themselves and the other people. We are used to whispering in museums but lots of loud talking and yelling here in case you're sensitive to that. I think we unfortunately chose a weekday that had a class trip or two going on. There weren't many staff around any floors other than the main floor but main floor/front desk staff were VERY friendly and welcoming which is appreciated.

♿ Entrance = Yes ♿ Parking = Yes ♿ Building = Yes ♿ Elevator = small / medium sized The aarhus art museum is what I was looking forward to see for awhile now and I got the chance to do it today. I was a bit disappointed from the expectations as they do have 10 floors but in reality only 7-8. The highest floor has the rainbow colored glass and This is definitely the best part of the museum in my opinion. 2 levels below it as the human art which was decent. The floor below it was okay. And all the other floors wasn't worth checking out. 2 floors were for a younger audience. So if you're going as a family it may be worth visiting all the floors. If you're all adults. You may not stay there for super long. They have a cafeteria and toilets as well as Free WiF, they have a button that slows down the rotating door which is good for bad walkers or wheelchair usersi. It's not a bad place but not a super interesting one either in my opinion.

Aros is really good museum! I think with sun walk rainbow panorama is interesting experience. And some famous paint and objects also good. But I just want to say, the exhibition down there was so ….. carefully see that! I heard that part is independent zone. But should more big warning there.. of course art is free for expression and free for artists! So I respect them, but just so creepy for me 🥲 I won’t forget bit longer haha.. so just careful for kids and and weakness person like me 😂 otherwise the other side every single floor was so good! I spent time over 1hr each floor 💟

Beautiful museum. A lot of stairs, but there are elevators available for people with difficulty to walk. We loved the interactive art area. We appreciated that the front desk employee warned us for a scarier exposition on the third floor, since we brought our child. That way we could avoid it. What could have made the experience so much better would be if they’d implement a play area for young children. Young kids can get bored or overwhelmed and it would be nice if they could de-stimulate in a play area/child friendly area. That way someone can watch the kids in the play area while the other can enjoy art in peace. The rainbow panorama is very noisy. This could trigger you if you’re sound sensitive. Best is to bring some kind of noise cancelling for a better experience. There was so much amazing art in this museum. It’s definitely worth a visit. Parking is a bit difficult. We went on a workday and there were very few parking spots available.

Beautiful modern art museum with some stunning displays. Of course the cherry on the cake is the raimbow rooftop walking platform, worth the visit by itself already. There is big shop downstairs with a lot of suveneirs to choose from as well as cafe.

The building itself is pretty cool. Some of the exhibitions are nice. They have headphones but only in Danish. The roof top sky walk is fun to take photos of.

Google
suppose I hate modern art as most of this was dreadful to my eyes. I did like the landscape paintings and a few others but most of it was weird, bad or just utter nonsense. The two women cutting onions was the biggest joke they called art. I don’t get the rainbow roof either, so what? It’s tinted glass, for kids or Instagram/TikTokers it may be good but not for adults.

Lovely Art Museum with a lot of modern art. They have a significant collection of Danish artists. Currently there is a Picasso and others on the display. You can also see Andy Warhol’s art there. On the top of the building there is a Rainbow Panorama which is very interesting. Art is spread over 10 floors in the building. Parking is not a problem around the museum. Inside you can have a coffee and a light meal.
