Those fowl gods have finally smiled upon me and my chicken-loving proclivities. First we get Pollo Norte, then we get Chicken & Guns (arguably not the same style), and now Arrosto. My love for Latin-style rotisserie chicken knows no bounds, and Arrosto is aiming straight for my heart.
This brand-spankin'-new rotisserie chicken window in the back of Providore Fine Foods offers up a short, sweet menu of cluckin' delicious treats. Grab a quarter bird, half bird or whole bird, either a-la carte, or as a "dinner" which includes potatoes, bread and salad. Sides include, you guessed it, potatoes, bread, and salad. That's it. Oh, and they have super interesting drinks, coming straight out of the case at Providore.
The winner winner here is the chicken dinner. Half chicken with the trimmings for $18. While I appreciate good focaccia and potatoes, I had them sub in a larger salad (massive!) in lieu of the carbs. Excellent choice. My half chicken came partial deconstructed (each cut separated, but still on the bone) with great skin, excellent moisture, and an insanely good sauce. The salad employs excellent greens and radicchio, with a nice vinaigrette, shaved parm and bread crumbs. The whole mess is served up on medium sized baking trays. Only a photo can do justice to the sheer amount of food you get for $18. Hint - it covers two medium sized baking trays.
The chicken is top notch. Not quite as browned or seasoned as Pollo Norte, but similar style. It's on the simple side, but simple is good here. The skin was just crispy enough, and the meat inside so moist. And the seasoning is really not super necessary when you have the delicious sauce. Also a nice charred lemon to squeeze over the top. The salad? A perfect match for the succulent chicken. The tangy dressing cuts right through the fat. And massive. MASSIVE! At least for the large.
You can utilize Providore's outdoor seating for your meal, or take it to go. But there's not a ton of seating available. So be prepared to make do if you go on a busy day. This joint is only a week old, so nobody knows about it right now. Get while the gettin's good.
Mad props. This is everything it needs to be.
