Art of Pizza on State Street

They have deep dish pizza by the slice. Absolutely delicious. I got the arts special deep dish, and also a second slice of arts special but thin crust. Both were great, and the best thing about it being by the slice is that you dont have to wait for it to be done. Some friends got the spinach one and that one was good too (if you don’t eat meat). They also had quite a good variety of vegetarian food. The service was nice! Very kind

EDIT: A great place to get authentic deep dish pizza by the slice, if you are short on time and don't want to wait for one of the sit-down restaurants. Quality can be inconsistent, as you can see from the first and second photos. A small place with a walk-up counter and several tables, offering a surprising variety of pizza and sub options. I went here for my first taste of Chicago deep style pizza. Even at 9pm they had all four kinds available, from cheese only to pepperoni to pepperoni and sausage to one that adds bacon and ground beef. The cheese has a great texture and flavor and is the secret to the success as well as the savory thick tomato sauce. There is plenty of chili flakes, Italian seasoning, and Parmesan in shakers to add to your taste. At the time, the cost was $5.70 per slice. EDIT: I went a second time and ordered the Meaty deep-dish slice, same as before. This pizza had just come out of the oven. This time, I found the crust to be quite thick and dry, and there wasn't much cheese to make up for it. You can clearly see the difference in the pictures. Of course, if you had the time and money to try one of the 45-minute sit-down restaurants, they would be better. But for what it is, Art of Pizza has a perfectly acceptable slice and is great value.

The Art of Pizza is just two minutes from Michigan Avenue walking. When I come to Chicago this will be my new favorite place. The menu prices are the best in the city and the food is amazing. I came on Saturday 1-03-26 around 10:30 PM.

Stopped in on my last night in Chicago; the restaurant is small but clean with very friendly staff. I opted to dine in and asked what they recommended and was told most tourists order the stuffed pizza, so I got a slice of the special (sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, and onions) and was not disappointed. Even though the crust is thick, it didn't taste or feel like too much bread and the sauce on top tasted both slow cooked and fresh - a bit of an oxymoron but that was probably my favorite part even though I don't typically like much sauce. I also loved that they sell it by the slice - I'm traveling alone and don't have a place to store leftovers so that was perfect. I look forward to visiting again the next time I come to Chicago.

Passed by this shop hungry to try a slice of deep dish pizza. First time trying, it tasted great but did feel slightly stale. I also ordered an Art’s Special that came with several toppings and it was delicious. Small and casual space with helpful cashier.

You can tell the crust is handmade. It's a bit drier than I prefer. I ordered the cheese. The flavor was ok. Had to top lots of pepper flakes on it though. Overall not bad but could be monster and more flavorful.

Their pizza was absolutely incredible. We ordered the Chicago-style thin crust, and it exceeded all expectations. The crust was perfectly balanced, soft but not flimsy or overly chewy, with a thin crispy finish at the end. The sauce was flavorful, striking the ideal balance between sweetness, saltiness, and tomatoey. You can order online or stop in at any time to see what they have available and ready by the slice. When we stopped in, there were 6-8 different types of hot and ready pizzas to choose from. Overall highly recommend visiting. Art of Pizza definitely deserves their award of being voted #1!

Art of Pizza was such a great experience! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The service was smooth, the atmosphere was relaxed, and everything felt easy and enjoyable. But let’s talk about the pizza, because wow. This was hands down some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. Fresh, flavorful, perfectly cooked, and just overall amazing. Every bite was worth it. If you’re in Chicago and debating where to grab pizza, this place absolutely delivers. I would 100% go back. 🍕

Had the deep dish pizza Chicago style Art's Special which has Italian sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. The flavor was great! Only reason I left off a star was because the pizza could have been more heat hot to eat. The arugula and beet salad were fantastic! The service was fantastic, cashier is friendly and efficient. Can appreciate that! The restaurant is nice, cool sit down spot. I would definitely return. Support local businesses!

Meh. The crust (not stuffed) is way too doughy and a little cake-like. The sauce is okay but the cheese has a school cafeteria feel to it. No garlic powder available and the grated cheese comes from a packet. If you're very hungry, fine. I don't think I need to do it again, though.

Got the cheese stuffed and spinach + mushroom stuffed slices to go. These slices are pretty big, so make sure you're hungry! The sauce is probably one of my favorites of most other places and cheese is absolutely loaded in there. The staff are sweet and helpful. don't be afraid to ask them questions. The restaurant itself is a little small and has a few tables but it's often crowded. It's good to take your pizza out and eat it at the local park or whatnot. Don't be like me and accidentally squish your pizza though.

The pizza by the slice here is pretty much exactly what you'd expect. It's okay, but not great. It is a good deal to swing by and grab a slice when hungry, but you wouldn't be missing out if you skipped it. Much better pizza to try throughout Chicago. With that said, the pizza that is not "by the slice" might be a lot better since it's fresher.

Pretty good pizza. You can get slices Togo. Even deep dish slices. We got the mozzarella sticks and they were good too. Also the ceaser salad was good too.

After visiting Italy a few years ago, pizza is most definitely an art. There are different styles from thin crust to deep dish. In this way, you can enjoy the best of both worlds at this location. The ingredients were fresh. Each bite provides a wonderful blend of dough, cheese and toppings. Furthermore, the art of pizza did multiple styles of pizza done very well. Check out this place for just a slice or come for a whole pie. Either way, when you leave, you will leave a little more happy.

The crust is ... not yummy. It was too hard on the outside. The cheese was good and they put a lot. But for $4.75 plus tax was $5.31 it was a decent deal. Near historic printers row.

Spent a bit of time researching the tourist trap pizza joints vs some Reddit chats on opinions. The Art of Pizza was mentioned several times as being delicious and also (important to me) BY THE SLICE. no way I could eat a whole pizza myself. Perfect for my first day in Chicago, a slice of Delicious salty tomato saucy meaty doughy yummyness. It's a tiny shop so better for solo or small group travelers. 20seats total. Thin crust. Pan crust. Deep dish. Fountain soda. Soft drinks in cans or bottle. Water. Jarritos Several cake slices for desert available as well. I paid 9$ for a meaty slice and a Jarritos orange.

I've passed this spot plenty of times as my stylist is around the corner, but I never stopped by until today. When I arrived, there was only one person in front of me, but by the time I sat down to eat a few minutes later, the entire place was filled. It is pretty reasonably priced for slices and what's nice is that they offer both deep dish and thin crust slices. Prices are really reasonable...especially given the location. For my large slice of sausage and cheese, it was about $5. I like the sauce, the sausage had a good flavor, meeting the standard for Chicago style Pizza. The only improvement is that because the slices are already prepared it's not steaming hot like I prefer. I imagine this pizza is really good if you buy one cooked to order. Would definitely return.

There is only street parking which is limited. But the food is worth it. Pizza is crispy and Chicago style. Great staff and great place for a slice and pop to go

Very quick, convenient pizza by the slice. My go to is the classic cheese thin crust and the motz sticks.

Had a lovely time. Our waiter was the best. Great ambience and menu can't go wrong. This was our first experience and we were pleasantly surprised for a neighborhood pizza restaurant specially in Boca thank you.

The pizza slices we had were generously sized and full of flavor. It's a great spot for a quick bite, though the place is quite small with limited seating. While it can get crowded on weekends, the service is fast, so you won't have to wait long. The area is lined with several fast food joints, making it busy, and parking can be tricky to find during peak times. The Arts special thin slice pizza was a favourite, I would definitely recommend it!

Lots of people popping in and out, parking curbside with their flashers on just run in to grab a few slices or even a to go order. That's how you know it's fast! Staff was super nice, pizza was the bomb, & plenty of little tables inside if you want to sit and eat too! Only downfall was there is no restroom for customers but that is pretty common in small restaurants like this. They also had a few dessert items and drinks to choose from. We would definitely come back!!

Tried a slice of veggie pizza with thin crust. It was good and the size of slice was big and only $5. Very affordable. They also have different types of pizza and cakes. Service is nice. There are only limited number of seats.

We came to the area for a concert and I wasn't leaving without Chicago style deep dish pizza. After reading several reviews we landed here. The staff was friendly and fast. The space was tight but we were able to find seating after receiving our food. I got a slice of the stuffed crust with Italian sausage. The pizza had been sitting in a warmer so it wasn't totally fresh. I didn't get the legendary cheese pull but the flavor was fantastic. I feel that if I had ordered a whole pie the experience would've been better. Overall it was not disappointing, but wasn't the magical experience I expected. I would come back.

I stopped by for a quick slice and was pleasantly surprised. I got a slice of the sausage pan pizza. Great crust and tasty sauce. Plenty of cheese and topping. I was a winner.

Our cashier was super nice and helpful when we were trying to decide what to order! It was my second time trying deep dish pizza AND WOW the crust was beautifully crisp. When we went somewhere else, we were dissatisfied with the product BUT THIS PLACE has restored my cravings for this dish! Also--how are the cakes here THIS GOOD? The chocolate cake was rich and slightly dark, and the carrot cake was perfectly airy and moist (better than some places that claim to be a bakery). This might be my new go-to spot for cake!

Everything was amazing!!! The stuffed special pizza, the pan pepperoni pizza, and the mozzarella sticks were all great!!! Just running errands and my husband and I were hungry googled pizza near me and this was one of the most reasonable priced pizza. DELICIOUS AND DELIGHTED TO FIND!!! Will be going back no questions asked!!!

The pizza really did its job of introducing my partner to deep dish for the first time. I really liked their sub, which I got vegetarian. Food was wrapped securely and I'm grateful for that since we got delivery.

This is a spot I hit up because of Dave Portnoy. The pizza is outstanding. I did get the Italian stuffed pizza and I am so glad I did! I also ordered the cheese sticks. Also a great appetizer! I'll be back if in the area!

This is one of the only spots where you can get deep dish pizza by the slice, so it's a convenient spot if you're craving deep dish (or any pizza) but don't want to invest in an entire pie. However, I was unfortunately not super impressed with the deep dish here. They have 3 pizza slice options-- thin crust, pan crust, and stuffed crust (deep dish). They also have other salad, sub, and dessert options which I didn't try. I got a slice of Spinach, Mushroom & Onion Pizza (~$5.50) and 2 orders of jalapeno cheese poppers ($12 for 12 total poppers). The slices seemed to be lying outside for awhile and they served it to us without reheating it, so our slices were not hot at all-- which is not ideal for pizza, and especially not ideal for deep dish pizza. Otherwise, the taste was pretty mediocre and not very flavorful. The jalapeno poppers were okay-- crispy and a decent appetizer to have on hand. There's a small amount of seating inside, but usually not too many who dine in, and you order at the counter. The vibes and interior decor are cute, homey, and very casual. The price is pretty good since it's by the slice, but I'm just not a huge fan of the pizza quality here. With so many pizza options nearby and in Chicago, I personally wouldn't choose to come back. -- Price (relative to peers): 5/5 Food: 2.5/5 Ambience: 3.5/5 Overall Value: 3/5

This place was good for a quick snack after doing an escape room nearby! The thin crust with cheese was really tasty & there was space to sit inside and enjoy the slice. The art/decor is cute, I'm hoping to go back to try their stuffed crust!!

Stuffed pizza is great! Thin crust is not so great. Fast service and you can buy pizza by the slice. Would recommend trying this if you're in the city.

Was underwhelmed by Art of Pizza. The cheese and veggie thin slices are ok, but kind of greasy. The deep dish is also greasy and not super flavorful. All in all, worth it for a quick slice if you're craving it but there are a lot of other pizza places that I would hit up first. Service is always fast though.

I had read this pizzeria served pizza by the slice and like to check out new pizza places while in Chicago. It is a very unassuming small restaurant with only a few tables. Most patrons were ordering slices to-go as it was quite busy when I stopped by late Saturday afternoon. They offer thin crust, thick crust, and stuffed crust (the traditional "Chicago" pizza with the sauce on the top). Prices vary from $5-7 a slice. They did not offer a large variety of pies (cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and a specialty 'za), but sometimes sticking to the basics is best. It made for quick service despite the long line. I order a pepperoni deep dish and my husband had sausage thin crust. Our total was just over $10. The size of the slices were very generous. My deep dish was AMAZING! Chewy, flavorful crust, lots of cheese and pepperoni, A+ sauce. I was stuffed after my piece. My husband thought his thin crust was one of the best he has ever had. If only there were not so many amazing restaurants in Chicago, we would have definitely stopped by to try the stuffed crust before leaving the city. It is on my "to-do" list for next time. Recommend if you are in the area, especially if you are on a budget and in a hurry.

Pizza is what you would expect from a pizza by the slice pizza place. It was not great. If you are here visiting and want to try deep dish pizza this is not the place to go. Do yourself a favor and go to one of the other sit down restaurants. You order from the counter and they give you a precooked slice. They have a decent amount of seating. If you want a quick slice of mediocre pizza, this is the place for you. I would not recommend or come back again.

Stopped here before a Soldier Field Concert because Lou's down the street had 1 1/4 wait for Pizza. This restaurant cooks their Pizza, puts it on a rack, and sells it by the slice. Looks like the turnover is fast so the pizza is fresh enough. Ordered Art's special Stuffed Pizza. This pizza had Green Peppers, Onion and sausage. It was ok for what it was. Drinks were normal fountain drinks but refills were a dollar. The restaurant was clean and the tables turn quickly since it is not a place to lounge around and eat. For a quick slice Thin, Pan or Stuffed this place is good enough.

The customer service was courteous, they weren't too crowded around 5pm. Great if your stopping in from the Harrison Red Line as it is directly across the street. They have pizza by the slice for $4.75 and stuffed crust for $5.75.. You do have to pay to park so order ahead and throw hazards on... I really enjoyed the pizza, I was surprised they had stuffed crust. I got a sausage pan crust pizza, it's very filling, I couldn't eat more than a slice and a half. Go check them out !

this is the best pizza I've had since I've left NYC. Conveniently located near a couple trains, and have amazing and quick service. Decor is nice, do wish there was more room to dine in though. Feels a bit crammed

I came here late night for 2 slices of their deep dish. I got their spinach, mushrooms pizza and their meat lover's slice. Both were delicious. The indoor area has a small seating area that can accommodate a small group of people. The service was okay.

This was such a pleasant surprise. I rarely want to try new pizza places, but I was feeling risky and this place did not disappoint. The actual flavor of the pizza was GOOD. I don't know how places have bland cheese, but it's happened. My pizza was cheesy and saucy. A good amount of meat and I'm very happy I went with pan pizza. The large slices reminded me of a more upscale Pizza Hut and it was everything I needed. All I'm saying is the last few times I've had pizza delivered, I've been very unimpressed. I've finally found a place that gets straight to it!!! Gimme good cheese, crust, sauce and meat! I will absolutely order again.

Quick and straight to the point. For 5 bones it's a great slice. If I was to give the slice rating out of ten I'd give it a 7.9/10 and I'm a harsh grader. I would go back.

This 5 star is for deep dish meat lover slice...What can I say, it's amazing and with plenty of sauce like I love and the sausage is seasoned and tasty. This is now my fav place for grabbing a deep dish slice on the go and the price is cheap which is amazing in a time of inflated restaurant prices everywhere.

While I came to Chicago (in part) for the renowned deep dish pizzas, one of my best slices came from The Art of Pizza's. I got a thin crust slice of "Art's Special" and almost came back for more before continuing on my food tour. Excellent!

Would highly recommend the thin crust slices, perfect for when you're walking around all day and need something quick. It's also much nicer inside than you would expect, and the service is great.

We tried Art of Pizza late night and got a small cheese pan pizza. it was ready quickly and the service was good but prices were a little high ($5 for a slice). we also tried Lou malnatis and giardinos in Chicago and liked this pizza the most of all three!

The cashier was very unprofessional and couldn't figure out how to fix the card machine. She wouldn't add anything to the pizza and wouldn't have it reheated. When we asked, she looked at us like we were crazy and were such an inconvenience. We planned on eating there but changed our mind and got to go. Pizza was decent, fine for a Sunday quick bite. It doesn't matter whether the food is good if it doesn't ever show up. I placed an order on their website, which estimated delivery in an hour. Two hours and 15 minutes later, nothing had arrived. When I called, they said "we didn't see your order." Seriously? What's the point of offering online ordering if you aren't going to monitor the orders. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this happened with Art of Pizza. This long time customer is done.

My wife and I are in Chicago for the 1st time. Of course, we had to try authentic Chicago deep dish pizza at Malnati's, and it was OK, but the pepperoni was barely there and the sausage was indistinguishable. We decided to try the "Art of Pizza" and our taste buds were suddenly rejuvenated!! The cheese tasted better, and the pepperoni was incredibly delicious!!! The price was unbelievably affordable!! Great job done by Bernice at the register!! This was what I was expecting out of Chicago!! We'll be back!!

After walking around all day, I decided to stop here for some pizza on the way back to my hotel a few blocks away. The woman that took my order was super helpful, and the food wasn't bad. No one else was inside at the time, so it was a nice relief from the cold bustling outdoors. The food was decent, especially the fries. I would go back for a quick bite, but it isn't necessarily somewhere to go for a nice meal.
