Leave it this NYC staple to bring everything right about Francis and Sal's to California. This location feels local, tendered to with love and care by the staff, and just does the Artichoke brand right. Way better than the Berkeley location IMO too. :)

Best pizza in all of northern california, i come here every time im in the bay. the deep dish pizza is just incredible. i just wish yall were open earlier!!! i’d eat here multiple times a day when i stay out in the bay if i could !

Pizza's fine, can't say I love the patrons setting off fireworks for 4 hours on a random Saturday night in January. Or pissing on parked cars. Classy joint!

We always need to stop by artichokes when in Berkeley. I’ve tried their classic artichoke spinach pizza which is creamy, pepperoni/sausage, and my FAVORITE is the vodka deep dish. They have two locations and both sell by the slice. This location has karaoke and seating with a bar while the one closer to campus is outdoor seating only. Highly recommend!

Had a pretty poor experience when I stopped by for a slice and a drink. Artichoke pizza had non-chewable pieces. Drink was served with a little too sweet with no punch. But a great spot for karaoke.

It's 5 stars even though I know its not best pizza or bar, its an amazing place to enjoy yourself & unwind in Temescal area, if your looking for Karaoke its every Thurs- Sat. Manager & Karaoke host make this spot a 10/10 or 5 stars! If you know you know.

Everything is good. The slices are pretty big. (I can usually eat like at least half a pizza but 2 of these slices is enough for me most nights unless the moon is full). Also They have sicilian pizza! Crust is nice and crispy. Also This location has a buncha tvs if you watch sports ball. Its a little on the pricier side but worth it.

Make sure you stop in grab a fresh slice and a daiquiri from NOAH the best bartender!

BEST PIZZA IVE HAD!! Haven't stopped thinking about their artichoke pizza since I first tried it. My friends moved to Oakland and we decided to stop here on our night out. The atmosphere reminded me of Blondies in SF. I came on a Saturday night around 10pm and surprisingly it wasn't packed at all. My friends signed up for their open mic karaoke and it was a blast! It came out hot and fresh. You need to eat it right away. I tried both their meatball and artichoke pizza, and the slices were HUGE. Forget the meatball, it was meh. But the artichoke? Maaan, you need to try it. It was like I was drinking a pizza. The sauce was a flavor bomb, plus the crust was thin, crispy, and perfect. I didn't want the bite to end. I rarely make the trip out to Oakland, but if I'm craving pizza, idc im paying that toll just get a taste of the artichoke pizza.

Such a fun spot! The energy here on Fridays and into the weekend is so great. Love that the staff and locals make you feel so welcome. Pizza is generous and filling! Staten Island is definitely a personal fave with the Vodka right behind. Come by and enjoy karaoke, a slice of pizza, and a drink or two. Exciting to bring friends but be mindful as standing room and seats can fill up quickly, especially during karaoke nights!

ORDER artichoke pizza (4/5) sooo good and opens late... but it is quite expensive. worth the try tho! the slices are HUGEEE. SERVICE quick service, nothing special AMBIANCE there is street parking and seats outside.

Stopped in here when my mom was in the hospital she really wanted some pizza before the put her in her NPO(nothing by mouth) restriction. Definitely not the family seen since this is a bar. I got the artichoke with white sauce slice. The slice is huge. I could have gotten one slice and shared with my mom. You can tell the pizza is all made in house from the dough to the sauce. Super filling will be stopping by again.

This place was so disgusting!!! I tried pepperoni, Parmesan meatball & margarita pizza, they were all disgusting. I literally couldn't even swallow the pizza. We ended up throwing it out and placed an entirely new order from Door Dash.

I'm drooling just writing about this place. The pizza is delicious and the artichoke pizza is out of this world. I add more artichoke to my pizza slice, all pizzas are delicious but the artichoke is my favorite and the slices are like two in one and very inexpensive! The service is great and they are open until late night which is a plus! More of a college kid place but its simple and cute place

One of the popular pizza spots from Berkeley and this location is in Oakland off Telegraph. Also a bar and they're known for their artichoke pizza and thing slice, I think the same business as the one in New York? Always a good spot to get something quick while out drinking and at the bar or at the end of the night. Reminded me of my younger years going out. The Artichoke pizza slice is what they're known for and the white sauce and you can get it heated up. This particular visit I think the worker heated it up too much because we couldn't even hold it and it was melting and falling apart. We had to use a knife and fork to eat it. They have seating outside and inside. For a $7 big pizza slice this is a pretty good deal! There's street parking around the area but it can get very busy and also make sure to not keep anything in your car. This area has a tendency to get a lot of car breakins. It looks like they sell chicken wings, bread sticks, meatballs, salads, and fountain drinks!

This place charges a pretty penny for a slice of pizza but when you're drunk it is completely worth it. Does it mess with my stomach the next morning? Yes. Is it one of the best pizza slices I've ever had? Also yes. Something about the artichoke slice just has me in a chokehold. The service is always the same. The guys in there are completely over it and want to go home but I would too if I was dealing with drunk college kids

Heinous food, weird ambiance with the feel of a local alcoholic bar. How do they stay in business?

Objectively I don't think Artichoke's is that good but if you're craving something salty and kind of greasy (especially at night) this place really hits the spot. Slices here are pretty big and they reheat it for you on the spot so the bottom is kind of crispy which I really like. Artichoke - 5/10. Personally not really my thing. Tastes like an alfredo pizza so I'd def recommend if that sounds appealing to you Meatball - 8/10. My personal favorite! It's basically a sausage pizza Margherita: 7.5/10. not a bad option but doesn't really take like a Margarita pizza Vodka: 8/10. The slice is super thick and also kind of creamy. Def a heavier slice but good for when you want to feel kind of crappy and satisfied

The artichoke pizza is the best ever! Taste so good. I will drive all the way from Vallejo to get this. It's thin crust pizza - crunchy and the cream sauce is deeeelicious, and they're generous with the artichokes. The price $6 for a huge slice and it's warmed in the oven when ordered. Sign me up! And they're open late. Writing this review makes me want it again (even though I just had it 4 days ago when I bought a whole pizza (8 slices) for my birthday). Haha try it! You won't be disappointed. A plus is that the pizza place is dine-in and has a full bar AND they have karaoke..what. Yes! Yes. Yes. Only thing is it's Oakland. Keep your head on a swivel. Stay safe!

After a night of drinking, a classic artichoke pizza will always be the best pick-me-up! Despite the fact that I live in Berkeley, I was too lazy to make the 20 minute walk to the Artichoke location near campus. So, I Doordashed! The food arrived in around forty minutes and was a bit cold. But, even after nuking it for a minute, the bottom of the crust was still delightfully crunchy. This pizza may very well be the best cream-sauce pizza I've ever done had, and I'm not even the biggest fan of creamy Alfredo-esque sauces! The sauce was extremely rich and the scattered artichoke pieces added a certain je ne sais quoi that completed the whole slice. Pro tip: make sure to have some chili flakes at hand to cut some of that richness!! Some cons I'd like to mention was that half of my pizza was really scorched on the bottom... I'm talking jet-black burnt. Definitely didn't appreciate this surprise especially since the aerial view of the pizza is stunning. I'd also like to add that the sauce was a bit too salty, but perhaps this is just my own palate at fault. As a parting note, I'll say that Artichoke Basille's is a staple for New York pizza fanatics, but we Bay Area foodies without a doubt appreciate it just as much.

Y'all they have karaoke! I popped in after a night out looking for something quick to eat. I heard lots of great things about their slices and had to try it for myself, why didn't anyone tell me they had a magic mic style set up and all kinds of songs on Thursdays?! What a treat! The service was great, I got tons of help navigating the pizzas and the bartenders were all so nice. It has the friendly ever one knows everyone feel of a local dive bar, but with elevated drink options. I love Temescal for still holding on to places like this, it makes the area just feel like one friendly neighborhood. I thought my pizza was okay, but it was did the job and I will be back to try the veggie option as well as sign up for a turn at karaoke.

New York style huge slices, small selection but fire. They actually started in New York and brought the traditional one hitter quitter style to the Bay Area, and didn't sacrifice quality or authenticity one bit. I actually have tried them in Brooklyn and it was pretty consistent to the Berkeley/ Oakland location.

Came in on a Friday around 6 and it wasn't packed at all, plenty of seating. I got a slice of the artichoke pizza and a slice of the vodka Sicilian as well as an order of the cheesy break sticks. My eyes were DEFINITELY bigger than my stomach but I'm telling you, you get your money's worth here. The artichoke slice is so creamy and so delicious! I'm normally a girl that requires meat in her pizza but this artichoke one, my goodness it's perfection! Well worth the drive all the way out to Oakland!

I found this place on a fluke, it was Halloween time and a man dressed as a nun flagged me down for karaoke and I couldn't resist. This is hands down one of my favorite places to hang out. They always have something going on, the staff and customer base are very friendly and welcoming... OH AND KARAOKE NIGHT THURSDAY - SATURDAY. Okay, so now that you know it's a vibe, let's talk about the pizza. Yo, this pizza go CRAAAZZZYYY, especially when you dip it in ranch. I've tried mostly all their slices and have never been disappointed but the Staten Island is my go to. I'd you're around and want a quick bite or want to chill and hang out , this is the place for you. There's also outdoor seating, they are dog friendly, and there's cute boys. :) Come hang out with us!

BEST PIZZA!! Literally couldn't get enough of the pepperoni pizza. I had two pieces, it was ridiculous how good it was. I wish I lived closer! This is a must try. A lot of people had the original artichoke slice, and raved about it. But when I tell the pepperoni is fire.... can't wait wait to get it again. Just do yourself a solid and go!

Closest thing to the original NY spot but the artichoke pizza is literally my ALL TIME FAVE! Whenever I'm craving pizza I'll make a drive just to grab some. The service is super quick and they're really nice! The ambiance is usually busy and it's small but it's really quick to get your order in and your pizza is ready within 5 minutes usually

Ordered 4 slices and pizza to take home and was excited when I got home. When I get home, there is a piece of floss under one of the slices??? Tried calling them but they didn't pick up and I live 50 minutes away. Disgusting and disappointing

Artichoke Basille's takes over the old Lanesplitter spot. I had two slices of the meatball pizza. The tangy, robust tomato sauce was a highlight, but the toppings were really spread unevenly. Also, parts of the crust were too burned to eat. I have to say I liked the pizza quality of the one in Berkeley better. This one in Oakland has in its favor a full bar though and lots of seating. On certain nights, it also features live music with rotating bands. On this night, they attracted quite a crowd. Great if you're wanting to catch some music, but not if you want to catch up with friends or indulge in a quiet date night. The bands were pretty loud! Parking in the neighborhood is pretty tough even on the weeknights, so it might be better to Lyft.

Very Disappointed of the current state of the bar!! Came here a year n half ago after a break up and was able to sing karaoke and met a lot of great people, my first experience was amazing but when I went back again it was shell of how it used to be. Came here two other times but saw how it started to go down hill. Very little amount of people, karaoke was very boring and not as hyped as before, a drink purchase is required to sing now and when I was told by the bar tender he came up to me very rudely and loudly said "you can't sing if you don't buy something!!" Then got a very sour face when all I ordered was a cheap shot. Seen some familiar people but since they were all huddled in one part the bar it felt very flat and awkward when I went up to sing for good old times.. The Pizza was no longer cooked fresh by a guy any longer and the environment feels very sad n lonely. Wish things stayed the same and was told it was like that all the time but now will no longer be going here or wasting money on something that should be free and lively to draw people in!!

I've been meaning to try Artichoke Basille's Pizza for some time, and although I can't go to their physical location right now, I do have plenty of time to order delivery. While I believe there's no such thing as "bad" pizza, there definitely is such a thing as "good" pizza, and Artichoke Basille's is "good" pizza, in my opinion. I appreciate the fact that they offer their pizzas by the slice, which allowed me to try a few different options without having to commit to an entire pie. As someone who loves to try a lot of different things, this was a huge plus. My litmus test for a pizza place is either their cheese or their margherita pizza. If they get those right, they're probably pretty good. Artichoke Basille's didn't disappoint. The slice of margherita was almost NY-size large, with a very thin crust and crunchy end. The tomato sauce was light and bright, and the cheese and basil made for a good margherita. But the real treat of the night was the Vodka Sicilian. I've recently become a huge fan of vodka sauce on pizza (thanks, Square Pie Guys!), and to find a place in Oakland that could deliver on that front was a nice surprise. The sauce was tomato-y, creamy-, delicious on a pillowy crust. I will definitely be ordering this again. Luckily, Artichoke Basille's is open for delivery during the coronavirus pandemic, so you can still try their delicious pizzas without having to leave the comfort of your home.

The pizza here is FIRE, I 100% recommend the artichoke white sauce, 10/10. The slices are also super big. I tried the margarita pizza too & I gave it a 8/10. The guy that served us was super sweet and said that his personal fav was the artichoke pizza :-)

MMMMMMMmm! Huge pizza's by the slice! The artichoke pizza has a nice creamy base and it tastes so good! Classic pizza joint vibe with sports games playing on the screens. Pretty big space. Can be difficult to find parking on the street.

It's always fun checking out new pizza places. After having tried Artichoke Basille's spot in NYC's Greenwich Village, I was especially excited about checking out this newest location. This isn't just a pizzeria. It's a very nice pizzeria. There's plenty of seating in a pleasant contemporary setting, should you opt to for a sit-down dinner. It's particularly​ nice for a place where you can also just grab a slice of pizza for takeout. In addition, there's a bar towards the back with about a dozen or so seats. I got a slice of their Sicilian style Margherita pizza. It was a very generous slice ($6.00) that easily was enough for two small eaters. It was a tad saltier than I would've liked, and the dough didn't seem as chewy as I remembered it to be in NYC. However, I enjoyed the thicker crisp Sicilian crust and the good balance of fresh toppings. It also held up very well, with not a drop​ of grease seeping through the crust during the entire time I ate it. My hands and fingers remained grease-free from beginning to end! They're still in soft-opening now, but there was a steady flow of customers right when they opened their doors for dinner today. There's a good selection of pizzas to choose from here. Whenever I'm in Temescal and craving pizza, I'll be sure to stop in. I've already got my eyes set on their artichoke pizza!

Average at best... at BEST. But honestly, the pizza just wasn't very good. Never went here when it was Lanesplitter Pizza and this is my first time ever trying an Artichoke Basille's location, so I don't have much to compare it to. But, what I can say is that there are tons of other places nearby that make way better pizza than this place. I've been passing by the Artichoke Basille's location in Berkeley for a few years now. I guess it just didn't appeal to me. It wasn't until I visited New York that changed my mind. I didn't get a chance to try it in New York, but many New Yorkers were raving about this place. When I found out that a location was opening in Oakland, I was super excited to try it. Dropped by during their soft opening last week and tried a few slices. It definitely needs some work. The interior setup is pretty casual. They have a few booths, a couple of high tables, and a small bar area for seating. Not sure if the bar is full-functioning, but I saw lots of people with beer in hand. Artichoke only offers pizza by the slice, and a typical slice will run you about $6. Sounds pretty steep, but their slices are actually quite large in size. They offer salads and apps as well, but the pizza is only sold by the slice. Unless you're getting your pizza to go, you'll have to sit at a table to be served. This location isn't an order at the counter type of vibe. Some may like being served at the table, but I like being able to see the slices and ordering them before I sit down. I guess I'm just used to pizza by the slice being more fast-casual. Service was okay. I could tell that some of the staff members were new, including my server. I put my order in with her but saw that someone else who sat down after me was getting served first. She came over to apologize after she saw me looking around and told me that she had forgotten to put my order in. Hey, mistakes happen. The shop is new and I found out that it was her first day, so I can understand the mix up. The slices are already cooked and reheated after ordering. I'm not really a fan of this style, but I'm always willing to give it a chance. I ordered an artichoke slice and a crab slice. The pizza looked kinda dry when it arrived. I figured as such since they basically just reheat the slices. They actually weren't super dry, but both were too oily for me. The artichoke slice tasted odd. The pecorino cheese just didn't mesh well with the artichoke. The cheese was extremely pungent, and the artichoke didn't add any sort of flavor. The crab pizza was also different. The crab on the pizza tasted good, but the crab and pizza combination was just... weird. Maybe I was just being a little too adventurous? Both slices were bland and the slices were thin and kind of hard. I probably should have stuck with the basics like I usually do, but these slices were recommended to me. One thing that I can glorify about their pizza is the crust. The crust was absolutely perfect. It had a wonderful buttery flavor and an enjoyably chewy texture. That crust was GONE. I ate the crust and didn't even finish the pizza. It was just that damn good. But good crust is not enough to sustain my appetite. I need the entire pizza to be good. Unfortunately, Artichoke's pizza did not live up. I'm not opposed to giving them another try in the future. I think I'll let the newness die down a bit and pay them another visit later on.

Absolutely LOVE the artichoke pizza!! Only bad thing about it is that even if you get an entire box, they don't have a special price, Instead, you pay for each slice. There is a bar in here and they have live music on some nights. Haven't stayed for that myself, but it might be fun.

Yay! I'm so happy Oakland finally has a location. The only downfall is that they aren't open during lunch hours. But the plus side is that THERE's A FULL BAR! Whoot whoot! You have the option of dining in or ordering take out. The pizza's are pre-made and displayed behind the glass counter. Pick your selection, pay, and have a seat. They're most popular item is the artichoke basil pizza (hence their name) and my 2nd fav is the crab pizza (at the Berkeley location). Slices are huge and very filling. My son didn't want to believe me so he ordered two pepperoni slices but couldn't eat both lol. I tried to warn him but he was happy to have leftovers for lunch. Staff is very friendly. Parking in this area is tough, so have a little patience.

The slices are overpriced, and honestly their square slices are quite an awkward size-too big for one meal, but too small for two (even a small meal). Their selection of flavors is terrible, and the customer service is unremarkable. You'd be better off going to any of the multiple other pizza places within walking distance.

Huger slices than ever! Our 4 slices basically equaled close to the size of a large pizza, and provided a filling dinner. The artichoke slice is classic, creamy, and rich. If you're a first time customer definitely give the artichoke pizza a try. I also love the vodka sicilian pizza. Takeout was surprisingly fast! I think I received the pizza 20 minutes after I placed the order on Uber Eats.

This place has incredible pizza and I highly recommend it. It is a chain from the east coast but surprisingly doesn't get as much love here as one would expect considering how delicious the pizza is and the fabulous ambiance. I have tried every single pizza and can say they are equally delicious. Their artichoke pizza is extremely unique but heavy on the cream, so if you're lactose free/dairy allergic like me, proceed with caution :) The pizza is made fresh (and warmed up in the oven) all night long. The slices are pretty large, for a reasonable price. There is also live music most nights of the week, and the experienced bartenders craft great cocktails. Artichoke sold me a slice of pizza with a unique flavor. The pepperoni slice was toested nice ,but the pepperoni was a little salty. The vodka sauce pizza was tastey and cheesy and nice and toasted underneath i enjoyed both .

I went there with a friend a little after midnight, believing that it was supposed to stay open until 1. There were people inside but the door was locked and we were told they were closed, though clearly their staff was just having their own party in there!

Artichoke Basille's pizza is SO good! And their slices are huge! My favorites are their namesake (artichoke...duh lol) and margherita. Their crust is so crunchy yet chewy. The sauce for the artichoke pizza is so creamy. The vibes here are definitely chill and service is very friendly. You order at the counter and choose wherever you want to sit. There's a bar with different beers on tap. They even have life music on the weekend (I think Fri/Sat nights). Hoping they open a location on the Peninsula.

Omg! I love this place. I'm defiantly a pizza head. But this place was Somethin' different for sure. The signature artichoke pizza is out of this world. The size of the slice is bigger than both of my hands. I've never been disappointed if you go make sure you get a signature slice and add Tapatio on top so good.

I was planning a Friendsgiving for the Saturday before actual Thanksgiving. From past experiences of trying to do everything - clean, prep, cook, host, tidy-up, entertain... I realized that I never got to enjoy the event that I was hosting. This year, I decided to purchase the food. I placed an online order from the owner, Jim, at jim@artichokepizza.com. Asked for the price of each pie (Each 21" pie is $38.00 plus tax), scheduled a time, and requested 2 this Oakland/Temescal location, as it was closer than the one in Berkeley and right off the freeway. The day of, I was running around, trying to pick up some Peiking duck, beverages, and finally made my way here. "We didn't have any orders." The shop owner said. Uh.. I was about to freak out and start a mad dash into the Berkeley location, when the manager told me to wait. He called Jim and found out that Jim forgot to relay the order to the store manager. From out of nowhere, they pulled out 2-21" pies and told me the wait would be another 10 minutes. I was tempted to grab a beer or some other alcoholic beverage from the nice bar they had, but decided just to watch the game on their television screen. The pizzas came out perfect and was very talked about during the Friendsgiving potluck. One of my friends even requested to take some home, and took about 1/4 of the pie (aka the rest of the remaining pizza). All in all, the manager of the store saved the day. (Shout out to Jim. Met the guy a long while ago at the Berkeley location. A very sweet guy.)

I ordered UberEats delivery from them approx 1.5 hours before their closing time and they accepted and were supposedly preparing the order for 20 min then suddenly cancelled at the approx delivery time and were no longer available on the app. Thinking it was an Uber glitch we placed same order on Caviar still an hour before they closed, and for another 20 min later it said it was still pending confirmation and the order never came. By then their competitors were closed. They suck for being flaky and leaving us hanging.

A lil slice of NY in the Bay. I personally prefer this location over Berkeley because of the seating and ample parking around Temescal. Also, there are lots of shops and bars that I prefer more. Maybe this comes with age? They have a full bar, TVs (sport's-ball, yeah!) a piano, and sometimes even a DJ. Top choices ranked: 1. Sicilian - vodka sauce baby! 2. Artichoke - staple, there's levels to this 3. Pepperoni - curly and ubiquitous, do I say more? I would love to see Artichoke host a trivia night. Every time I'm here it's never packed. Which is a good thing for me, but I hope business continues to thrive.

Located on the corner of 48th and Telegraph. Very spacious with lots of seating and a full bar with 9 beers on tap I haven't tried the location in Berkeley - but this taste exactly like NY minus the rush Manhattan feel. More chill and relax. Pizza is $6 a slice and they reheat it for you when you order it. Crust and pizza is crispy - exactly how I like it. $6 seems pricey but it's huge and worth it. I like the artichoke pizza more than the crab and meatball. Service is great! Very friendly.

This location I felt was 10x better than Berkeley's location! The service was much more friendly and welcoming. Made me actually comfortable enough to possibly dine in next time. I deducted a star because the artichoke pizza that I usually love was really salty last night when we had it. I believe it was just unlucky. My recommendations are the crab pizza and artichoke pizza. I want to try the meatballs & cheese bread next time!

Look, it wasn't bad. BUT. If you've been to the NYC one, this just ain't it. At $6 a slice there's zero room for error, and there were errors galore. The artichoke slice dough was too thick and the sauce was too thin. It felt like eating bread and dip. The pepperonis on the pepperoni pizza were perfect but the crust was really dry. You couldn't just walk up to the counter and buy a slice - you had to be seated which is annoying and pretentious for a pizza by the slice spot, especially in Temescal. No offense but let's not pretend. The meatballs were solid. All in all, given the lack of decent pizza spots in the bay I'm not saying I'd never come back, but it's not the Great New York Hope I wanted.

Oh NY pizza, how I've missed you so!!! There is no more authentic place to get your slice. Others will claim they are NY pizza, and that is a lie. This is the real deal NY pie with quality sauce and quality toppings. I base all pizza places in how well they do a margherita and this place does it right.
