Yelp
Preface: There are no menu items that have any artichokes on them. Which makes me wonder if the name of this place is actually just a joke? The plot thickens...
Yelp can truly bring you to the coolest places. Traveling back home from work, I fly out of Wichita, which isn't known for being a foodie mecca, but definitely delivers when in need. I needed lunch before traveling to the airport, so a quick yelp search directs me to this place, which I happily navigate to.
The outside looks like someplace you wouldn't be welcome, but step in and it's warm and inviting from the decor to the servers (very kid friendly too). I sat down and was quickly given the drink list (menus are already in front of you - I think, if I remember correctly, that the menus are embedded in the table?). Since I'm not in Kansas that often, I decided to try one of their local brews. The waitress was new and couldn't offer much assistance about taste, but she and I worked together so she could learn and I could taste :)
With the help of my waitress, I decided to try the Paddy's Pickled Pepper Wrap, but on an onion hoagie instead. Got that with a side of broccoli salad. I got several unexpected compliments from different staff members on my substitution of the onion hoagie, and for good reason, it turned out to be delicious. Next time I'm in town I'll maybe try something different? Nah. I'm a creature of habit. Also, for those wondering, the broccoli salad is on the sweeter side, but still refreshing.
I'm pretty tight with some of the Gaelic crowd back home, so instantly recognized some of the random gaelic phrasing on the wall. One waitress saw me taking a picture of their "Pog mo Thoin" (pronounced poh-g ma-hone and means 'kiss my arse') and went and told the owner, who was sitting at the bar. We had a nice chat, and he's obviously very proud of this irish bar he's created. Overall, I had a really warm welcoming experience here, and food stood up to the service. I'll be back!
