"Stationed seven minutes on foot from Victoria Station, this extra-small, extra-charming base has just 10 rooms and an all-day restaurant, projecting a boho-chic yet laid-back vibe that makes it a highly central, characterful stay." - The MICHELIN Guide
"How did it strike you on arrival? From the outside it’s a chic brasserie in residential Pimlico south of Victoria Station—there’s no inkling of rooms upstairs. What’s the crowd like? There’s a boho feel to the clientele, as the name suggests—mostly leisure travelers, and in-the-know fans of the cellar bar. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Ten high-ceilinged rooms have been carved out of a former townhouse, each completely different in feel and well-sized. Expect fancy headboards (one looks like a Chesterfield sofa, another a farm gate), wood floors and period features including stucco and flashes of exposed-brick wall. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?All beds are king size and dressed in Egyptian cotton. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Free Tunnocks Caramel wafer cookies take UK guests straight back to childhood. The pork crackling ($5) is the highlight of the minibar. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. It’s your normal affair of rainfall showers and thick towels. The toiletries are by U.K. producer Bramley (which concentrates on natural ingredients), and suites get claw-foot tubs as well. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Free, high-speed Wi-Fi. Room service: Worth it?There’s no real room service, though on special request you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner from the restaurant downstairs delivered to your room for no extra charge. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?Everyone was pleasant. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The bar, Clarendon Cocktail Cellar, is a gorgeous speakeasy-style place in the hotel’s cellar with exposed brick walls, pressed tin ceilings and claret-colored stools around a horseshoe-shaped bar. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? That cellar bar. Bottom line: worth it, and why? It’s a lovely, different kind of hotel in a lovely, different area of London." - Julia Buckley

"Have you ever tried a chai cocktail? No, neither had we until we stayed at Artist Residence London. Given the name, you might expect a focus on creative décor – and with original Eine artworks, just 10 perfect rooms with bespoke beds and vintage-inspired bathrooms, there is – but there’s more to this proud Georgian townhouse than looks. Soon after check-in we descended to the basement cocktail den where the resident mixologist matched us to our ideal tipples before regaling us with tales of his latest infusion experiments. Smoke & Mirrors, The Rum Diary, The Secret Garden all featured as well as the aforementioned Chai Milk Punch – honestly the most moreish aperitif we’ve ever tasted! Oodles of theatrical dining fun soon followed in the ground-floor restaurant, where we watched the chefs prepare flavourful fusion dishes. Of course, London’s shops and sights are all within easy reach, but on this particular winter’s night, as we explored the well-researched wine list, we couldn’t think of anywhere else we'd rather be... Highs Stylish and indulgent rooms – spring for a suite or The Loft to get a huge tub, too! The all day restaurant and bar are destinations in their own right and great fun A handy location just 10 minutes from Victoria Station (but tucked away on a peaceful sidestreet) The genuinely warm and friendly staff made us feel instantly at home The curated art collection, the comfy lounge and event spaces bring a unique vibrancy Lows Better suited to couples than families – though all are welcome The Small rooms are just that – best for budget-minded or solo travellers Nightly rates are high, and don't include breakfast There isn't a lot going on around the hotel, so it's not ideal for those who want to be in the heart of the action Full payment is required upon reservation" - Melissa Burfitt

"While London’s hotels, as a whole, have been scaling dizzying heights of luxury, Artist Residence London is a throwback to the days when creative people could live well in West London without substantial family wealth. The setting, on a side street in Pimlico, places it close to Sloane Square, Buckingham Palace, and Tate Britain — and even closer to any number of art galleries, both large and small. The rooms are full of character, and full of art — as is Cambridge Street, a multi-purpose dining venue featuring a café, a cocktail cellar, a club room, and a terrace, serving everything from breakfast and weekend brunch to afternoon tea, dinner, and beyond." - Tablet Hotels
