Where to Go Shopping in NYC | Condé Nast Traveler

"Artists & Fleas permanent set up in Soho (there is also a weekends-only marketplace in Williamsburg) is a great place to pick up souvenirs made by local artisans. The booths are run by young entrepreneurial types selling original, relatively inexpensive jewelry, decor, or Brooklyn-y souvenirs, like cheeky, screen-printed T-shirts or soy-wax candles. There's also a solid vintage selection, with permanent booths like Thriftwares selling on-trend bags and out-there dresses." - Andrea Whittle

Perfect place to find the perfect gift. You can choose from thrift fashion, handmade jewelry, street art, etc. You can also find different activities, like "Sip & Shop" on Thursdays. 🗽🛍️

Super cute venue with a large variety of vendors. Some items didn't seem quite local or handmade, but it was still nice to check out. Lots of interesting pieces of jewelry and art!

I’ve been to a lot of indie markets across the US and Artists & Fleas in Soho is THE best permanent space market I’ve seen. The name is a bit of a misnomer - these are actually indie makers and not resale. It’s expensive making anything in the US because you pay for a fair wage. You can feel good about any purchases made here.... and there’s so much creativity in what is made that it makes for a fun time exploring :)

I would give zero stars if possible. 7 day return policy. Cheaper junk than canal st knockoffs at 5x the price. Nice hustle they have going. Got a gift from someone who didn’t know better.

My favorite shop on Broadway in Soho. The stuff here is one of a kind. Mostly hand crafted and cool the vendors are friendly and very willing to explain what went into there products

The perfect place to get a souvenir in the city, really pretty, good convenient location and with a great selection of unique pieces manufactured in NYC. Contribute to the fabric of New York by shopping there you won't regret.

So happy Artists & Fleas opened this SoHo outpost! It's so much easier to get to and has all of the wonderful vendors you'd expect. Jewelry by Aris is my absolute favorite.

When visiting Soho, this is a must visit. It’s a fun open space of local artists & creations including jewelry (lots of beautiful designers), cheeky canvas pouches, vintage clothing and more.

Yelp
Artist and Fleas is located in Soho and open all year long. Right on the corner of Broadway, it is a space for independent merchants to sell their beautiful items. However, this weekend, it was the host for the Thrillist annual holiday hideaway. I've gone to the Thrillist holiday event for three consecutive years and it is always a blast. It was also held in different venues annually. Thus, this review is based on the Thrillist event. Held in the rear section of Artist & Fleas, Thrillist staff welcomes you by giving a check list card. As one walks around, you will be required to present the card to claim the perk. Though there's always a variety to the food among the 3 day weekend, the card offered 2 beers, a cocktail, nibbles, a craft corner and a hair styling or beard grooming station for the men. I'm not much of a beer person so I passed on this offer; however, the Moscow Mule was the specialty cocktail made with Tito Vodka and very delicious. I then went to the craft corner and designed my own drinking glass in full holiday spirit. There was the choice of either a glass or ornament to work the magic. This activity was a lot of fun as individuals created his/her masterpiece which you get to keep. The next stop was getting my hair styled. Most women selected curls while a straightening option was also available. It was a quick style but very professional. Once done, I loved the new look. A couple panels were held throughout the day and I had the opportunity to watch Lucali pizzeria owner speak. Minutes later, lots of pizza was passed around. It wasn't Lucali pizza (and also not very good) but it was the only food option when I was there. The space got cramped quickly as time went by, but it was certainly a lot of fun. There's one last day to check it out on Sunday and I think it is worth it. It is free and although I registered for it a couple weeks ago via email, anyone can walk right in. I experienced it all in about 90 minutes. Good holiday fun.

Yelp
Love Artist and Fleas! They always have such great artistic vendors in both this location and their first location in Williamsburg. The space in this location is bright, spacious and always vibing with cool tunes, at least the times I visit. Have my favorite vendors that I purchase from, and refer friends to as well. The ingenious designs of the merchandise, is extremely creative. Love how they now have a little section of the New Stand, one of my recent favorite stores to get cute items. My most recent visit to the space was for a free meditation class, featured in the back space of the venue, unbeknownst to me, did not realize how spacious this place is. The instructors of the newly opened The Big Toe Yoga studio were providing a sneak peek of the classes they offer and the meditation class was definitely different from others I have been to. We practiced both sitting and walking meditation, which was a nice change and provided a stretch too. I always look forward to visiting this market place, as there's usually new additions to the Artist and Fleas family. A must visit, for those of you looking for a unique gift for a loved one, for any occasion.

Yelp
I loved visiting Artists & Fleas in Williamsburg, and was excited to hear of this new venue in SoHo! I visited as part of a Yelp event and I didn't know where to start - whether to contribute to the heartfelt Signs of Hope post-it wall, to check out all the unique and charming wares, to test the alcoholic pudding (which was delicious!), or grab a drink in the back! The venue is a bit smaller than I expected, but it was fun to stroll around and great for bringing a tourist friend! I bought a R. Nichols luggage tag that I absolutely love and can't wait to use! Come check out the goods at this market! You won't regret it!

Yelp
Amazing & fun place to walk around. Got a tattoo at the Live By The Sword booth & they did amazing! Highly recommend getting a tattoo from them if you are looking for a great tattoo shop! Super cheap prices but a very high quality. Their minimum is $50! The person who tattooed me was Jeff. It was my first tattoo & was super understanding, very nice, fun to talk to, and kept me calm the entire experience. My boyfriend also got a tattoo after me and his looks amazing too!

Yelp
Artists & Fleas in Soho is fairly new and filled with artistic vendors with one of a kind items. I saw a lot of Etsy-esque looking things that I've never seen before. They have jewelry, clothing, artistic pieces, and just lots of random and interesting things. I was fascinated by some shiny looking straws and cool looking rings none of which I needed. My favorite was these letterpress prints from Archie's Press. I liked all of their prints and there were so many to look at although a little pricey. I would definitely recommend strolling through Artists & Fleas if you happen to be in Soho and have some time to kill.

Yelp
A great selection of artists and a good variety of art in this large coop of different artist booths displaying their works of art. I came across a few very unique and talented artists whose work was absolutely amazing. The prices are not that reasonable for most pieces, especially the ones involving vintage items. I loved half a dozen items in various booths but did not purchase due to the very high cost of the items. Not sure how sustainable their business is in long run...

Yelp
I love buying jewelry from these places. The best of minimalistic fashions exist here. They also have a vintage shop for the bigger pieces. There are about 6 places to choose from. I stopped at the first and dropped enough there but there are plenty of other options to suit your needs. They also have little clothing shops and soap as well as a mustache dedicated outpost.

Yelp
Etsy-esque markets like Artists & Fleas are totally an Achilles' heel for me. I pretty much ran in after noticing the Artists & Fleas name while strolling down Broadway. I'd heard of the Williamsburg one, hence the semi-familiarity. Anyway, there were tons of vendors to check out, and they were offering clothing, jewelry, books, soaps, drinkables, and much more. I was really digging the snarky Pamela Barsky pouches; they'd made terrific gifts. According to the website, the merchants rotate often, so it'd be cool to stop by Artists & Fleas periodically and see what's new. I must give a thumbs down to the punk lady holding down the fort at the Strand. She scowled at me during my transaction and barked "We don't have any small bags." Yikes. Would it hurt you to be less standoffish? Oh well, at least I still have my rad postcards and cat stickers. To my rescue was this quite chipper woman at the MarieBelle booth. She offered me a free sample of delicious hot chocolate. I should've bought something from her. Blast! Next time!

Yelp
Reason for visit: The Confetti Project Visit date: October 17, 2017 First time? Yes. I was so excited to hear that the Confetti Project was holding mini photo sessions at Artists & Fleas' SOHO location. I was also excited to visit another Artists and Fleas location. This one felt way less touristy and had a good mix of vendors. The Confetti Project set up a colorful tassel backdrop in the back for all, and held confetti photoshoots in the back room. On this day there were also food vendors sampling their treats - scones, cookies, and crackers. Overall the ambiance was relaxed, which was a nice change from the Chelsea Market location, and I enjoyed the handmade décor and Instagrammable photo backdrops.

Yelp
Neat place if you like crafted things from necklaces, rings, clothing, cards, toys, etc! Friendly people and vibe, great music and definitely it's a wanderlust here! Prices vary but reasonable in my opinion! Have fun and check it out! My other half sure did!

Yelp
I used to go to A&F weekly when it was in Prince and buy from all vendors - the experience was fun and always welcoming and tbh exciting! This location however is dull and every one is full of themselves. No one wants to ever answer a simple question without it seeming like I'm bothering them. And ALL of them are always complaining about being THERE. I went in to get an ear piercing for the second time because oddly enough I did have a great experience with one of the girls in the back. She told me when she would usually be there so I went there expecting to see her. Instead I was greeted by the most pretentious, condescending rude ass woman and man who kept talking to me as if I knew nothing about anything. Regardless of what I know or don't know, they left such a poor taste in my mouth it ruined my whole experience and I will never be returning. The person who greeted me in the tattoo area was bubbly and friendly but he wasn't a piercer. Too bad, I would have gladly spent whatever to have a fun experience with him! I was ready to spend money and treat myself but instead I'll go blow a couple hundred at Chelsea Market. Tell your vendors to stop being assholes, you guys will stay in business longer.

Yelp
I love craft fairs, and especially enjoy looking at the handmade jewelry and artwork. I ended up trying out MoYou Nail Art and I'm obsessed. The girl at the booth was super friendly and excited to show me how it worked. I always have an accent nail, which she referred to as a "party nail" :) Sooo excited to use this kit! Everyone check it out, either at this craft fair or online. Not even too expensive, and comes with tons of different designs.

Yelp
A lot of weird, handmade, inexpensive jewelry if youre looking for eccentric accessories- "etsy-style" perfectly describes much of the shop. Large selection of vintage clothes, used books, and other unique items like purses, tiaras, cards, and gifts. Most of the prices were more than reasonable.

Yelp
Such a amazing find in the heart of Soho but honestly, nothing stood out. Nobody greets you or tries to talk to you... It's pretty depressing in here. If only the atmosphere was a little more lively, it would've been great.

Yelp
I love Artists & Fleas! I wandered in there the other day and wound up purchasing items from four vendors. All except the socks were handmade, and all were unique items I've never seen anywhere else. I can't wait to return on my next trip to NY!

Yelp
Highly recommend if you want fun shopping. Not super expensive either, but every artist has their products priced differently. Full of local artists and their work. So cool. Unlike anything else you'll see in the city. Really nice that it's inside too cause the day we went it was rainy. My friend got a dope ass shirt.

Yelp
Cute, carefully curat marketplace in Soho. Jewelry, clothing, books, pins, Knick knacks and vinyl.
google avatar

Maxine D.

Yelp
A little on the pricey side, but this place has a mix of artists and other sellers I have yet to find elsewhere. Come here for whimsy, jewelry, and a Strand Books stall.

Yelp
Wow so excited to have Artists & Fleas now in Soho! I always find the best one of a kind items here. The best place to shop for gifts even though I end up buying stuff for me too! Nice helpful vendors with really original stuff.
google avatar

Anne L.

Yelp
This place is a nice place to visit when you're looking for creative stuff. The stuff are somewhat pricey but it seems worth it to purchase something here. Even if you don't purchase anything here, you should have a walk here. Maybe you'd find something you like.

Yelp
Avoid this place at all costs. 7 day return policy. Cheaper junk than canal st at 5x the price. Terrible customer service also. Tried exchanging a gift from someone with the right intention but didn't know better. Quite the hustle they have going on here.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
Meh. I thought this place would be more Etsy-ish. There wasn't a lot that seemed original or creative. I would've liked to see more handmade items, letterpress prints, reasonably priced vintage, etc.

Stella D.

Yelp
A new store on soho right on the Broadway! Yah! Great selection of art, music, jewelry. The style is definitely more minimalist, but the price is not lol. Will come back after I get paid...

Farahin C.

Yelp
This location has a great selection of jewelry and the merchants are very personable and friendly! There is so much more room to walk around here than at the one at Chelsea Market (although that one is cool too). It's in a very convenient location since the subway station is a hop and skip away. I would definitely recommend visiting this Artists & Fleas location!
