Artly Robot Coffee - Review - Parkmerced - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Artly is a coffee kiosk in the Stonestown food court with robot baristas. And while your iced rose latte doesn’t taste any better just because it was made by a mechanical arm named Jarvis, it’s a fun novelty (and photo op) that’s worth a stop. Plus, the slow-moving automated appendage (complete with a disembodied voice) will ease any fears about robots taking your job. On top of solid espresso drinks, Jarvis can also make hot chocolate or non-caffeinated options like a honey rose yuzu refresher." - Julia Chen

Google
Interesting experience having a robot 🤖 make my cappuccino ☕️. Worth at least one visit just to see how far technology has come. Unfortunate for future human baristas, because the robots may replace some of those jobs. Great innovation, but tough for the future of those looking for jobs. I enjoyed watching the process from getting the ground coffee to putting it onto the machine. I was really impressed by the artwork of the leaf 🍃 in my coffee! Prices are reasonable. Cappuccino tasted good. It was heated to a good temperature, and the chocolate notes were good. Didn't feel watered down. Good overall experience.

Google
It felt very gimmicky, but actually hit a lot of marks well. The reason for 3 stars is cleanliness. The end of the milk frother had burnt milk on it and the metal cleaner didn't clear it every time. Lots of cross contamination for the syrup/milk cups. They just did a quick rinse of each and there was chocolate in my matcha latte. All in all it didn't taste bad, the temperature was good and the ingredients are all decent. If the human, scrolling on their phone with earbuds in, actually checked on the equipment instead of trying to become a robot themselves, then there would be a pretty good product and service here. If I had more severe dairy allergy or other food allergies I would avoid this place at all costs. It was fun to watch robots make the coffee and do decent latte art.

Google
Mocha tastes fine but temp is lukewarm at best. I asked for extra hot (even though it didn’t come with foam Art 😆) when my drink was ready it didn’t have art and was definitely not hot in any way….. the person who worked there was on their phone and very slow moving to refill the milk that was needed to make the drink 🤷🏻‍♀️

Google
Tried a cappuccino made by Artly Robot, it is an interesting experience! The coffee was smooth and well-balanced. Watching the robot prepare it added a futuristic touch.

Google
TLDR: average coffee from a robot that asks for tips… Tipping culture has been a hot topic recently but even more so when a robot is in charge of making your order and you are taking your own order… who am I tipping at this point?! The coffee itself is fine though nothing that stands out. The snow latte costs $6.50 though there was a 25% off coupon this time.

Google
This is one of the coolest most innovative features within the mall! It is a robot hand that uses AI, technology, and programming to create a cup of coffee. It is truly amazing to see what the future of baristas make look like! Other than the interesting service, this is a one time try, as the drinks were a bit smaller in porportion and tastes were medicore, but very fun to experience.

Google
One thing I love about Stonestown Galleria is that we always get to try new things. New vendors, new ideas... Typically I made my own coffee at home. But after following Google Explore pop up Artly's Robot Coffee arm's photos I decided to give it a try. Last time I tried Robot Cafe was in AMC Metreon before Covid & I ordered a regular coffee latte. This time, I ordered myself a facy Rose Honey coffee latte. The robot started to interact with me after I placed order. It's fun to watch my barista-- a robot arm made my coffee. Even though the robot didn't serve me my macaroons, but the macaroons taste great, not too sweet. Feel like embracing the future while tasting my coffee, it made my day.

Google
First time try Artly in stonetown mall. It's fun to watch how robit was programmed to make a coffee, even made latte art. I ordered dirty taro latte. It looked perfect. Unfortunately the temperature was off. It was just warm, average quality of coffee. I hope they can improve the standard and quality. It's so sad to realize robotic technology drive away many human job opportunities. On the other hand, products can be perfectly controlled and identical.

Howard K.

Yelp
A convenient and fun way to order coffee! I like that the robots here allow you to watch them prepare your drink. Employees are still here at this location to help if needed.

Yelp
New app since I tried it in 2022, with all new coupons. $2 drinks, 50% off, it's on there when you download. I tried the Iced Yuzu Matcha and was very dissapointed. Barely tasted the Suzuki, if any. The matcha didn't taste good either. It has this weird chalky cheap taste to it. Bunch of ice and watered down. I'm hesitant to try them again, but I might if it's only $2 to try something else.

Hadia S.

Yelp
Not impressed by it. The guy who stands up and supposedly help has a very arrogant attitude. It's know it all with limited manners and education.
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
I would make a serious statement and say that seeing a robot do a barista job is something beyond compare. Therefore I was a bit creeped out by it. The wait was prolonged because of the mechanics of the machine making drinks.
google avatar

Yelp
This is way less efficient than a human making coffee LMAO. 15 mins for a very average latte. The novelty is interesting until your robot gets stuck because it ran out of ingredients, then you have to wait for an unenthusiastic employee to half-heartedly refill its supply. This Artly is in the Stonestown Galleria food court. Apparently it's a chain. We were looking for a midday pick-me-up and saw "coffee" on the sign, waited in line only to realize that the person behind the counter was just supervising the two robots making our coffee, not actually making it herself. Big unobservant moment on our part -_- Once you place your order on the kiosk, your name appears on a larger screen indicating your assigned robot and place in line. VANILLA BEAN LATTE: Robot-made latte art is about as good as human-made. It's fine. Not much vanilla flavor. Almost tastes burnt? It's cool to see the tech in action (wow robot voices!!! moving pieces!!!) and I imagine it improves consistency-- but overall it's just a gimmick and I hope it doesn't take away cafe locations that could go towards mom and pop coffee shops... Also, our robot, Jarvis, got stuck with an order at some point because it was out of precisely 104.4 grams of milk. It froze and kept repeating this over and over until the staff came over and replenished their oat milk tank or whatever. With only two robots, I guess the wait is worth it if you're recording the entire process?

Yelp
Having your coffee made by a robot is definitely an experience to be had. I love watching the little guys make our drinks and most of the time, the drinks come out perfectly!

Yelp
Disappointing customer service The drinks were fine, but the service was disappointing. I ordered two drinks during a quiet weekday lunchtime. While they offer a variety of beverages, including kids' drinks, and ordering was easy, the staff's attitude soured the experience. After i recieved my frist drink , waited 2 minutes and I politely asked about my second drink, expecting both to be prepared by the same robot, the employee--wearing earphones--removed one, made me repeat myself, then rolled his eyes and dismissively said, "Yeah, you have to wait" A more respectful approach would have made a big difference. I stepped back and realized another robot was actually preparing my order, and the staff wasn't involved at all. I didn't say anything earlier worried they might tamper with my drink. Staff should be more patient and understanding--customers may be new to robot-made coffee and just need clear, respectful answers.

Yelp
The kids got fascinated to try the coffee because of the robot. They had fun ordering and the latte I got was great'! They had a sign that confused a lot of people and annoyed a few. Sign says to download app to get a drink for $1. The promo has ended and they just forgot to take it off.

Yelp
Needed a quick pick me up after some shopping so finally tried this coffee spot in the middle of the Stonestown food court. It's unique because they have a robot make some of their drinks. You order on the tablet in the front, most of the drinks are made by the robot and some drinks on the menu specify human made. I got a strawberry matcha latte which was robot made. I got it with oatmilk which was extra. The latte was solid. It was cool to see the robot make the latte and serve it by placing it on the counter. Another cool thing is that your name gets projected on the counter where the coffee is placed and there is a green circle which shows the level of completion of your order.

Yelp
Quick Summary - Ordering is done through a kiosk - Text message sends when the coffee is being prepared and when it's complete - Entertaining and fascinating to see the robot make coffee - Coffee is not sour This robot coffee machine wasn't there the last time I visited Stonestown. I have tried Artly in the Dublin branch, and I recall it being a positive experience, so I decided to try it again here. There is a staff aiding the robot and explaining how to order to new guests, but the star barista is the robot hand. The staff told me that the robot can make latte art, and I would need to try this out next time. This time, I wasn't able to because I was not feeling like drinking hot coffee. I wanted to cool myself down; the mall felt warm that day. i got two different iced coffees: one is a regular iced latte and the other was the iced snow latte. For the snow latte, the robot pours a viscous cream over the surface. Tasting it, it resembled a creama. This tasted pretty good with the iced latte, and I needed some salt intake, so this creama helped. I'm happy that a new coffee place opened on the upper floor of the food court, so that after I eat something I can finish the meal with a cup of coffee.
google avatar

Alisa F.

Yelp
Cool idea. Coffee just wasn't very good. There was no line and the robot was quick enough. Fun to try once but I'll go elsewhere next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Didn't get their coffee but the machines making them looked cool. Got their tong Sui coconut instead and it was delicious I prefer it without the coconut flakes

Yelp
A robot pouring latte art and filling iced cups with matcha? Sounds groundbreaking, but in this day and age robots doing anything are typical. We ordered the extra hot Honey Rose Latte with Oat Milk and Rose Strawberry Yuzu Refresher! While it was cool seeing Jarvis twisting and turning, the result is just like any other Starbucks, coffee shop you'll either be happy with what you've ordered and received, or disappointed at expectations vs. reality. I would recommend ordering their hot drinks as it's evident their cold drinks are 90% ice. No human or robot is perfect when making a drink however if you're in a pinch, am parched, and want a drink for $1 (for first time App users), head upstairs to Artly!

Yelp
Coffee (Americano) was good ($3.95) and good amount of coffee. It was lots of fun watching the robot get it for me. You order at a computer, your name shows up in lights on the counter where it will be placed, and an announcement is made when it's ready for pick up! Fun!!

Yelp
$1 for your first drink if you download their Artly Coffee app! I thought it was a great marketing move and it definitely got me to try their coffee. They have other coupons on the app you can use too, such as 50% off or 30% off your drink. You can order on their tablets or on your phone. They have iced and hot options along with decaf as well. This location has two robots working and making drinks. When I was there waiting I noticed an actual staff member dealing with dessert purchases and answering questions about the experience. The only food items they sell are malasadas by Ocean Malasadas and macarons by chef Alex Trouan as of now. I ordered a decaf vanilla latte and was impressed with the latte art for my drink! The robot did a great job with the foam. I didn't take a picture but I totally should've. They even talk briefly to you/ customers before your drink is finished. Then they say your name out loud and let you know that the drink is ready to be picked up. There's also a screen to show which drinks are on the queue, in process, and the estimated time. If there's no long wait I'd definitely come back and grab a drink! I'd love to purchase a malasada as well since they're the perfect pairing with coffee. I miss Starbucks but this is cool too- no complaints here.

Yelp
Neat experience to get your coffee/drink made by a robot! It's located on the top floor in the food court section of Stonetown mall. You can order on the kiosk or on the app. Definitely download the app since the first month you have the app you can use a ton of coupons, including $1 for your first drink, and a couple more coupons for 50% and 30% off a drink. They roast their own beans in Oakland every two weeks, and my husband who is a coffee snob thought his coffee was great. I had a cappuccino but noticed afterwards the default was 12 oz, and I should I have switched it to 8oz since it was a bit too milky for me- but otherwise the robot frothed the milk quickly and perfectly! We also got the Strawberry Matcha iced tea which was good, they make the strawberry puree and the drink wasn't too sweet (i didn't see an option to customize sweetness on the app- I guess that's too next level for the robot!) There is an attendant there in case something goes wrong.

Yelp
This replaced the former Starbucks footprint located at the Stonestown food court. It's a robotic barista. It served both hot & iced beverages. Today there were also macarons for sale. There is a human helper. We didn't order macarons to go with our lattes but I'm assuming the helper has to plate them. They've got a sandwich board advertising malasadas by Ocean Malasadas. When I asked about them as I didn't see any, the human helper says it's available Th-Sun only. Today is Tuesday. Hubby & I ordered two oatmilk 8oz lattes. The other size was 12 oz. Choice of milk or oatmilk. Place your order on one of several iPads. Enter your name & mobile #. It'll take 3 minutes to make the lattes. It was fun watching two robots make each one. They talk too. I forget what they said. Sure enough it took 3 minutes. I had planned to order a different type of beverage but it only came in a 12 oz cup. One robot designed a heart on one latte and the other robot designed a flower on the other. The latte tasted fresh. Topped with foam. But I thought $5.45 for an 8 oz latte was high price point.

Yelp
Revive Coffee? That big vendor in the center of the 1st floor in Stonestown Mall serves chai latte that tastes just like the regular in Starbucks. Perhaps going up the escalator and into the food court, one can find another big vendor that serves more than just coffee/tea. Behold! The barista bot in the future of brewed beverages, Artly Coffee! Used to see one in Market St near the Montgomery Subway Station in the Financial District until there had been some changes. Remodeled after Starbucks, the barista bot makes impeccable drinks depending on how these mechanical hands were created to last. These bots never stir drink contents; they whirl. Plus, they say your name before they begin the mixture. My Matcha Yuzu Lemonade is less sweet, less tart, and less bitter, but it's perfectly refreshing. Things are starting to get interesting when it comes to machines that do the work for us. First Kura Revolving Sushi, then Creator Burger, and now Artly Coffee. But we humans mustn't rely too much on AI. If that happens in the near future, then we're left fighting for the human touch. The mechanical hands of Artly Coffee that do the work for us is second to none.
google avatar

Laura J.

Yelp
Pretty unique and novel experience. With the robot making your drink in front of you, so it's pretty transparent of what they use and put in your drink. But I wouldn't necessarily trust this if you have any allergies or anything. First drink is $1 if you download the app (Artly Coffee) and make an account, but there are also many additional coupons they are offering! I got the Honey Rose Strawberry Yuzu Refresher. Light and refreshing, but the robot couldn't stir or shake the drink so the syrup was on the bottom and there were no stir sticks available.
google avatar

Cheri L.

Yelp
Definitely a cool way to get your coffee! It's pretty fun watching the robot do it's thing although it's pretty straightforward to make a latte. I think it would be cool if it added some little tricks or moves. My favorite part is when they add your name digitally to the pick up area. The honey rose latte was pretty smooth and flavorful; it's about average price if not a bit more compared to other places that have lattes. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind stopping by when I'm in the mall for a little pick me up. You can order through their app or in store tablet. First few orders through the app have discounts!

Christina M.

Yelp
The Americano I got was nasty. Robot isn't reliable as the human employee had to intervene twice. Also, no real half & half, just those mini moo creamers which taste like chemicals. Save your money and go to a real coffee spot.
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
I like to call this Robot Coffee. There wasn't a line when I got there so I got to order right away. The only human manning the station started out giving me tips on how to order but the interface was pretty intuitive. I ordered the mocha with decaf. Only choice was whole milk or oat milk. I guess since the robot is making coffee you can't customize. The show was watching the robot make the coffee. It was pretty cute. I didn't hear him call my name but I saw my name displayed in the counter. Food is limited. Either macaron or malasada. They should stock different pastries Mocha is pretty good. It didn't taste watered down. Considering Peet's is now charging $6 for a mocha this is a deal.
google avatar

Michele T.

Yelp
In search of a cup of coffee, decided to give this place a try. Ordered at the kiosk - maybe would've liked more milk options. Fun watching the robot make your drink, including the coffee art. Cellphone notification when your drink is ready. Your name shows up in lights when order ready. Must say, it was a decent Vanilla bean latte. Creamy and not too sweet.
google avatar

Yelp
has been so intrigued by artly coffee when i discovered that it was a robot barista named jarvis and alita that made our coffee! the snow latte might be my least favorite as it had a buttery taste to it and not so much sweetness. i wouldn't suggest if you're looking for a drink that tastes more so of the espresso. however, the iced vanilla bean latte has been my go to since it's opening. a hint of sweetness with a good taste of the espresso! i would give the coffee as a "good enough if you're in a rush". i do want to mention that both drinks aren't high in coffee/espresso taste so it's more so if you're in desperate need of a caffeine fix. i highly recommend using the app when you're ordering since it tends to get crowded. one of the downside of it being a robot barista is that it honestly gets crowded pretty fast by those who are intrigued / interested / curious than those who are ordering and waiting. i personally felt like the huge groups of people crowding where the drink is being could've been more organized. my drink almost got taken by a kid and i almost also couldn't reach my drink. the kiosks to order is always crowded as well so you're never too sure as to who is just hovering and who is in the "line". there is a staff working but they're mostly there to refill whatever the machines needed. i highly suggest artly coffee reconsidering the layout of their kiosk and potentially having it so that those who are just bystanders behind a line or something? to make it easier for those who actually ordered to access their drinks.

Yelp
Crazy times we live in, seeing advanced techy robots named Jarvis and Alida making your coffee... (Spoiler alert: Someone is still in person refilling ingredients and assisting the robot on an as needed basis haha) I think the idea of Artly Coffee was a nice add on to the foodcourt in replacement of Starbucks. Do I crave it? No. Would I go back? Sure, but barely. I think it was a nice one time experience. ****Pro tip: Download the app and you can get your first order for $1. The app in general has other decent deals as well. Process: -Order on the app or order at the in person kiosk -You will see your name in a circle on the counter -Jarvis or Alida will make your coffee -Once your coffee is ready, they will place it on your name and the circle will light up Green. They will then say your name out loud to say your order is ready I will say I am quite shocked at how versatile the menu was ranging from hot to cold and different flavors. I was quite bummed that the size of the drinks were quite small. I can literally chug my drink.
google avatar

Yelp
Saw on Yelp about the robot that makes drinks had to check it out. Stopped by on a Tuesday early afternoon. I went with the robot named Jarvis. Ordered on the iPad. On the ordering screen it said if you downloaded their app the first drink is $1. I was crunched for time so next time I'll download the app. Ordered the Honey Rose Strawberry Yuzu Refresher The robot Jarvis said my name in the beginning and at the end and the circle projection with your name under it shows you the progress of the drink. Drink tasted pretty good! There was an friendly attendant there if we needed help and she gave me a straw. The lids are on the side.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
Cute amazing fast and the robots are amazing It was easy to put ur order in the iPad and pay once they get the order Jarvis and alida started making the drinks Very tasty I will definitely come back
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
This place has two robotic arms that prepare drinks. There are also people around to restock supplies and make sure everything is working. The Rose Yuzu drink is really good. Do make sure you follow the directions and stir it. Ambiance is just the food court. It's a fun thing to try.
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
The price is paid for the demo of the robotic coffee maker. The experience is quick and smooth. Everything can be completed on the App. $1 for the first drink, which was hard to reject. In terms of the quality of coffee, I would say it is just fair - sightly worse than Starbucks with fewer options available. In conclusion, I am happy to give Artly a try. But that is it, probably not going to return.
google avatar

Elaine Y.

Yelp
Artly is located right in the middle of the food court, where it used to be Starbucks. First you order and pay on the iPad. Then you wait until you see your name on one of two counters. Your coffee begins to be made by a robotic arm and it's pretty cool to see. The green ring by your name slowly joins up into a complete circle when the coffee is done. Even places it on the counter for you to pick up. The honey rose coffee was delightful, rosey and sweet. A nice gimmicky addition to the food court.

Ashley S.

Yelp
The first time I ordered coffee from here it was good but the past few times it's tasted horrible despite me ordering the same thing. The snow latte is supposed to be sweet and creamy but it's just completely bitter. I had to just throw the whole drink away. I asked the worker if I could exchange the drink and he gave a rude answer and said no. Customer service is non existant. Your best bet is ordering from an actual coffee shop
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Really awesome robotic coffee that's made super fast and without any human interaction (hey that can be a bonus)! Beautiful presentation and yummy taste will def be back to try their matcha and yuzu teas
google avatar

Bunny D.

Yelp
I ordered the Salty Caramel Latte but it was kind of disappointing. It was a fun experience watching the robot making my drink but The latte tastes like just whole milk with coffee flavor, nothing blended in together.

Stephen W.

Yelp
Food: pretty good. Service: the robots were pretty funny to watch, they were just slow (which you can't blame them for). Ambiance: the put your name on the table so you can see it, so it's pretty cute.

Island Lisa B.

Yelp
The novelty of watching the robot make your coffee or tea is what this is all about. Thankfully, there is a human there to refill the needed oatmilk or whatnot but the actual drinks we both had--one coffee and one tea--were just not that great. Although we won't be back for that reason, it was a fun experience. With the high price of specialty drinks now, they must be great.
google avatar

Music Love H.

Yelp
When I was in San Francisco this nice employee greeted me and I ordered at the kiosk. Even better their is a app now. I think I've tried everything with non-dairy oat milk. They have different coffees to try and I noticed they keep changing the menu..It's been a few years since I've been in San Francisco, CA. I like the Matcha latte and Chai tea. I personally like the coffee as well. I can't decide.. Great technology!!
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
I noticed the Stonestown food court Starbucks was permanently closed for a while during the pandemic and 2 new smaller coffee shops moved in recently. I've walked past a few times to this place and decided to try it with a coworker of mine. The concept is similar to Cafe X, but it's more of an actual coffee shop rather than a vending machine. The robot barista is a very cool concept and can potentially be the future of coffee shops with high costs of labor. They invest in a robot as a sunk cost and it will eventually pay off over time. There is an attendant on site to help with ordering, but the ordering is mostly done on the iPads. I order the latte and it took the robot about 3 minutes to make my drink. There's an expresso machine and frother for each station and makes drinks accordingly to the queue. The latte itself was okay, but I think the temperature could be adjusted to be hotter. As for the milk, the robot did a very good job pouring it. As it's still new, I think I will give it time to work out the kinks and fine tune the equipment. Overall a very good concept for this location.

Fellenia C.

Yelp
Really great customer service and experience here! The server was really attentive and offered to explain how to set up the app and order from there. Definitely recommend checking them out, especially while they're still running their promotions. The Malasada donuts were super good ( passion fruit was tart and not too sweet) and the matcha latte was yummy.
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
This was pretty good the first time. It was made from robot.it's pretty cool to see how the robot make coffee.
google avatar

Timothy B.

Yelp
Very good coffee and cool barista. The quality of the coffee is up with the best of them. Thanks for the Americano Kaitlyn and I'll try out the Cappuccino next time.
google avatar

Humera S.

Yelp
Such a cool experience for coffee lovers! I got a iced vanilla bean coffee, I didn't really like the flavor and it was too sweet, but definitely want to come back and try the snow latte which the worker there said is their most popular drink!
google avatar

Nathan N.

Yelp
What's the point of buying from Artly Coffee if their prices are the same as Starbucks and if automation is supposed to lower labor costs? Would rather support local baristas. No thank you

Geoffrey G.

Yelp
The novelty of displacing any human interaction I was looking forward to with robotic perfection wore off before the order was served.

Jose R.

Yelp
Delicious boba latte! And very friendly staff. Also cool to see robots preparing your drink. 100% recommend!

Jam B.

Yelp
great hot coffee pleasant service nice and quiet spot. Friendly and space is abundant.
