This was a great dining experience. Ambiance: the restaurant is big but still gives off the cozy vibe. They have an upstairs and downstairs area for seating. I personally like the upstairs because it’s darker and has more of an intimate vibe. The downstairs area is well lit and creates a more friendly/big group vibe. Drinks: They have a full bar and can make most cocktails. They also have a great wine selection that is fairly reasonably priced. Food: When you sit down they give you fresh celery, carrot sticks, and olives. It’s a great starter. After you order they give you freshly baked, hot bread. It was so good and their olive oil was the perfect compliment. As vegetarians, the pasta option didn’t appeal to us exactly and the restaurant was very accommodating. They made us our own versions and we very much appreciated that. The pasta sauce tasted super fresh. I think the last time I had such fresh pasta sauce was in Italy. Pasta was cooked perfectly. The seasoning was on point - it didn’t taste bland or over seasoned. They gave us delicious Italian cookies for dessert. Follow Instagram: @TheShahLALand

I’m a little late with this review. We had our first date here back in 2003. Food and service were outstanding. We ended up getting married. Will be back.

Ordered the Chicken Scarpariello for delivery a few times but no more. It looks like they use prepackaged chicken squares that they over cook all the tenderness out of. So, in essence, Mock Chicken Scarpariello. The lemon sauce is great but the chicken is unpalatable..And all that for the bargain basement price of $30..lol. You know what W.C. Fields said "There's a sucker born every day" Well, this sucker is moving on.....

When we lived on the upper east side before relocating, Arturo’s was a staple of ours. The owner Josephine and her husband always make you feel right at home each and every time you go in. Whenever I’m back in the city I always make it a point to visit them and enjoy their food.

On a lovely Friday evening we were looking for a restaurant where our party of six could sit outside however we had failed to make a reservation and we were getting quite hungry. When we came to Arturo’s on York Avenue, every table was taken and not surprisingly, we were asked if we had a reservation and we told the truth. However we must have looked pretty sad when we were told that it would be impossible to seat us, so the waiter told us if we waited for about twenty minutes, he’d find us a table in their outdoor heated dining area. He kept his word and we had an outstanding inner with lots of bread and appetizers! We all had excellent drinks from the bar snd delicious Italian specialties! We were impressed by their wonderful service snd their kindness of providing us with such a wonderful feast, even though we didn’t have a reservation!

Google
Tiramisu and Fettuccini with prosciutto was really delicious. This might be the best tiramisu I’ve ever had - the espresso flavor is there but it’s not soggy. The fettuccini noodles are delicate and definitely taste better than “box pasta”. Our table also got tortellini and penne, both were good but the fettuccini was our favorite. Covid precautions: plenty of outdoor dining available! Note: there is a $19-20 minimum per person at the table. Most entrees (including all the pasta dishes we got) are at least $19.95

Yelp
Went back to Arturo's to give it another try, and food came out piping hot! Only downside was that I was starving and we ended up waiting about 20 mins for our meals. Nonetheless the food was delicious. We had the lasagna, and the veal parm with a side of broccoli rabe. Overall it was a delicious meal!

Yelp
Excellent . Excellent service and ambiance...food is extraordinary! We have dined here many times it is always amazing.

Yelp
It's our go to neighborhood restaurant. The experience is just wonderful. So much so that we try to go a few times a month. The warm bread is delicious and the martinis are always filled to the brim. It's very difficult to finish your water cause the service is that damn good. They're very quick with the refills. My wife and I tend to be basic with our orders: chicken/veal parm, lasagna but sometimes we go with the specials and the risotto is friggin amazing. The atmosphere is perfect and it's all topped off with cookies at the end of the meal. Love this place!

Yelp
Very classy place with great service and absolutely beautiful food. I got the salmon in mustard sauce and it was the most juicy, tender salmon I have ever had. I was actually really satisfied with the spinach and baked potato as well! The bread they brought out for the appetizer was so delicious, and thumbs way up for the gelato as well. (I recommend getting the hazelnut and the chocolate together.)
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered takeout from this place and they gave me no utensils when I called and ask for it. They say you have to ask for it very rude and very bad. I definitely don't recommend this place.

Yelp
Loved this spot! We celebrated my sister's birthday here and they were able to give us a large table downstairs which was much more private and quieter than upstairs. We called to make a reservation since they don't have an online reservation site. Our waiter was amazing; got all of our orders correctly and was quick/attentive. I love how they have a ton of veal options along with classics like chicken parm and pastas. We received complimentary bread and olives to started. Their wine list was well priced. I loved the mushroom veal dish I had; I was worried it would be too salty but not at all! We were not rushed through our meal and I was thankful for that! Overall, I cannot wait to come back! Everything was delicious and so reasonably priced.

Yelp
This place is excellent! Came here with a party of 8 to celebrate a birthday. The service was excellent and the prices were reasonable. I ordered the Tortellini Arturo which is meat filled pasta with peas mushrooms and prosciutto. It normally comes in a cream sauce but I got mine in their vodka sauce. They advertise on their menu you can change the sauce it is in but when the bill came they charged $4.50 extra for the different sauce which they did not mention. Besides that the service and food was great. The fried calamari was tender and a nice portion for $13. I am not a veal fan but they also have a lot of veal dishes. I would definitely come back here.

Marla R.

Yelp
The owners, Josephine and Joe are most congenial. The service is great and I am never rushed, the ambiance is perfect. It's a wonderful neighborhood restaurant to have, where your presence is always appreciated.

Christopher B.

Yelp
A terrific neighborhood gem! Elegant, great food and service. Owners are wonderful: Joe & Josephine! Best Martinis on the UES made by Fernando. Linguine carbonara and the Chicken Franchise are wonderful. Louis & Tony run the dining room. Superb, professional, warm and friendly. I'm a lucky person as CB I live one block north....lol Christopher Bayer

Yelp
The owners, Joe and Josephine, are so nice! They came up to our table and talked to us, kept checking in on us, and Joe even ordered for me! Super nice restaurant, servers and bussers very attentive-- as soon as I was done with a plate they were there to clean it up and get it out of my way. We went at 6pm on Saturday without a reservation and there was no wait. Baked clams were delicious and served up quickly, my calamari-clam-mussel-shrimp linguine marinara was super delicious. Highly recommend the cheesecake and tiramisu for dessert!

Yelp
Top notch Italian food on the UES. Everything is fresh and delicious and the wines are wonderful.

Yelp
Arturo's has been a staple in our family for years. My wife and I even had our rehearsal dinner downstairs. Amazing neighborhood friendly Italian restaurant with the BEST chicken parm I have had. The wait staff is incredible and feel like Luis is part of our family. They take such good care of you when you're there and the food is incredible. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu and definitely best local Italian spot I've been to!

Spyr C.

Yelp
Small Italian restaurant with incredible food absolutely delicious. Excellent service too. I definitely recommend the red snapper with olives in tomato sauce!!! The linguine carbonara also soooo delicious everything we got was tasty . Decoration is simple and nice.

Yelp
Me and my family came here often back in the 80's and early 90's. I was a teenager back then. There was a elder gentleman playing the Accordion. The food is delicious. The dessert cart is amazing. The Cannolis were made fresh on the spot. The service is exceptional !! One of the few restaurants where Jackets are required. I like that attire guideline. True authentic Italian cuisine. We were definitely treated like family even though we're Chinese. I look forward to going back to visit.

Yelp
This place is probably the most authentic Italian in the area. You can tell by the crowd, ambiance and when you are ordering. Each order of Alfredo is made fresh from scratch so when you ask for a side of Alfredo sauce you might as well place a full order of a main dish to be cost effective. I was there with my wife, sister-in-law, my two nephews and my two baby daughters. There was no room in the main dining area but that was more than fine when they gave us a private section downstairs. The food was amazing. Matched by knowledgeable, impeccable service. I had the seafood special and drank Coronas while the kids had some freedom to be kids without disturbing anyone. I have been here a few times and am looking forward to saving up to go back. Please tip well and don't pass up desert. They make there own also. Cannoli is my favorite. Never prefilled and not to sweet.

Nell B.

Yelp
If you don't know Arturo's yet then treat yourself to the delicious food and warm atmosphere of this old school, neighborhood Italian place. All the pastas are delicious (one of the few places that still makes meat tortellini) and you should also go often enough to try the specials which change often because so many regulars come to this place. Kid-friendly but still a nice night out, lively but still good for a quiet conversation. They're sadly only open for dinner but you will return for dinner again and again.

Yelp
So good and the staff was very friendly! Fresh bread hits the table quickly. It is small inside but there is a full bar as well.

Katarina T.

Yelp
I love their food. Unfortunately, I had to deduct a star. I've dined in the restaurant as well as order for pick-up for 5+ years. Tonight, I ordered for pick-up and I was sad that they didn't include the complimentary Italian cookies with my order. I gave a 25% tip on my take-out before I received my order. I should have just dined in & would have enjoyed the night better. Sad. Sad. Sad.

Yelp
Excellent choice food and service was great. Good menu choices and friendly staff. Working well through the COVID restrictions. If your nearby give it a try.

Yelp
Delicious Lasagna! Tried it there once and now its my go-to for lasagna. Good place for a date, a family celebration, or even a solo night with NYC. Cozy bar setting.

Alice T.

Yelp
Delicious "old school" Italian food! Waiters were lovely and the small space is cozy and very attractive.

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner sitting outside in Arturo's heated curbside restaurant . While I highly recommend making a reservation especially on Friday and Saturday nights, we incredibly fortunate when the manager was able to find us a table so we could sit outside ( even though we had not reserved a table). Everything from the baked clams snd stuffed mushrooms to the red snapper and lasagna were delicious! The service was outstanding and we were very impressed by this classy Italian restaurant!

Stavros Z.

Yelp
I was there Saturday night with a group of friends - traveled in from CT. We started with calamari, baked clams and mussels all came out quickly and were delicious. Our main entrees were veal dishes, seafood Fra Diablo, and eggplant rollatini again all prepared to perfection - one of the best veal sorrentino dishes I ever had. I can not emphasize enough that the staff was exceptional and even the owners came over to introduce themselves and made sure we had a great meal. I had to try the Italian Cheesecake- it was excellent what a great consistency. Definitely coming back absolutely worth the trip into the city.

Martin G.

Yelp
Fine nabe Italian. Branzini and salmon entrees well cooked and seasoned. Excellent, efficient service.

Yelp
COVID-19 Adjusted so decor does not affect the review. Friday evening and thinking about dinner. Decided Arturo's. No disappointment here. Food was delicious, fresh and good plentiful. First came the baked clams. Most restaurants, start with chopped clams as the base mixed with a lot of breading. Arturo's has a 3 different options. First of all, they start with whole clams, not chopped. Bonus. You could choose either the standard breaded baked clam or opt for either the clams in tomato and garlic sauce or what we went with the clams with bacon and chopped pimento..delicious. Next comes the mains..Chicken Cacciatore. Was good but not the best we ever had. Veal Marsala with mushrooms is the way to go. Veal stuffed with mozzarella and prosciutto in a marsala sauce and some mushrooms...um um good! Definitely, would repeat having it. Finally, coffee and a canoli. Coffee, hot and bold. Canoli, didn't have the heavy filling that usually fills up the tub. More of a lighter airy filling. Nope, won't reorder it. Lastly, service. Attentive but not overbearing. Not affecting the review but worth mentioning as COVID-19 has forced us all to eat in the street. Arturo's did their best to setup outdoor dining. Unfortunately, the restaurant is on a slight hill so we felt like we were taking off for a plane ride. Perhaps with the coming back of indoor dining this will be a non issue.

Yelp
The artichoke appetizer brought me back to my moms kitchen. Arturo's is authentic Italian. My family is from Italy and is in the restaurant business in NJ. So glad I found this gem to go to where I live. I will be recommending to anyone who asks if I know a good Italian restaurant. Everything was fresh, delicious and cooked to perfection. Thanks for making my friends bday special too! The lady who came by to see how we were doing is so nice! Support local and family owned, this place is the real deal!

Yelp
Arturo's is a perfect neighborhood southern Italian restaurant. Situated on York Avenue, it caters to Yorkville locals, many who have been regulars for years. The owner typically makes the rounds checking in on the tables, and it has a nice buzz. On to the food! I love red sauce, so I usually go for that. Paired with reasonably priced red wine, Arturo's shines particularly in the colder months. I've tried the caesar salad, clams casino, manicotti, and ravioli, and everything's great. Their red sauce is especially delicious, with a sweet, perfectly pureed consistency. I never leave a drop of red sauce behind. Every New Yorker deserves a neighborhood red sauce restaurant as great as Arturo's.

Yelp
They lie about their delivery times. Anticipate an additional half hour tacked on to any order and your food will still arrive cold. Bad service all around. Expect to be put on hold and hung up on when you call to check your order. Again bad service all around. Not worth the aggravation. It's not that good.

Susan L.

Yelp
What a neighborhood find. They took us at the last minute, prime time, on Saturday night and couldn't have been more gracious. The service was attentive and unobtrusive and the food was delicious and well prepared. We were given just the right amount of time to look at and discuss the menu and each course was timed well. We shared the perfectly fried calamari with a tasty marinara sauce and the bread was nicely warmed. The 2 fish specials were excellent--the pan seared bronzing which came with a lightly dressed bibb salad and roasted potatoes and the grilled salmon in a heavenly, light cream sauce, fresh sautéed spinach and those wonderful potatoes. We could taste the coffee in the cappuccino and the Italian cheesecake was both delicious and beautifully plated. And loved the free cookies. Next time, pasta.

Yelp
We moved to Yorkville recently (semi permanently since we bought after renting in Kip's Bay). We went on a date night dinner and this was really among the worst, flavorless (I am lying, lots of sweet) meal we have ever had. My husband ordered the lasagna and I got the baked ziti. I was surprised by how sweet and watery that sauce was. You can even go an airport restaurant and get better Italian. How can you make Italian food flavorless? The meat in the lasagna was not seasoned at all. If you were to scroll through my reviews, I almost never give a 1. Very rarely because as a pretty good cook myself, I know places have bad days, there are real people in the kitchen cooking but seriously, stay away. The olives that they serve for free in the beginning was the only good thing.

Deborah C.

Yelp
Staff is great and the food is great! What more can you ask for? Lots of daily specials too!
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best old school Italian family meal served by the best owners Joe and Josephine I should know, been coming here for over 30 years Come experience the best Italian meal on the upper east side if not the city
google avatar

Gina A.

Yelp
Best Italian food in town! Joe & Josephine ( owners ) are always so accommodating. A definite go to you will not be disappointed.

Dana S.

Yelp
Came in after an event at Gracie Mansion. Amazing service and the food was excellent. My veal francese was so tender and delicious. Great side of pasta cooked to perfection. Nice complimentary olives and crudités when you sit down and cookies when you're paying the bill. Love this old school classic neighborhood restaurant vibe.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
One of my favorite Italian Restaurants in the Upper Eastside that we have been dining at often for the past two years. Tonight we enjoyed and shared wonderful entrees such as the Artichoke Chicken, Veal Sorrentino, Chicken with Sausage & Peppers and fish special. Our waiter provide us with on the house drinks which was very generous. We will be back often.
google avatar

Jerry F.

Yelp
Attended a Birthday party here in a private room with an estimated 30 people. Turns out the Birthday girl eats here often. The room accommodated compact mingling & after dinner singing to the high scholl tunes that a friend had set up & played from his phone. The service was excellent. They accommodated this mostly vegan again modifying the prix fixe menu which was vast and included eggplant parm but dairy being a Nono I requested a pasta primavera. I noticed instead of a pasta appertizer in the 3 course someone requested broccoli. I was not that creative but enjoyed a bit of linguini with oil & garlic. Starting off I chose the lentil soup which was my favorite- robust, brown, hearty, mainly just lentils. So much so I had to try a hand to make some at home that weekend! Mangia!
google avatar

Jacquelyn Marie R.

Yelp
My mom and I came here after I got out from work for a nice Friday night meal. We were welcomed so warmly by the owners and he staff. Service was impeccable as well as the food! My mom had the chicken Marsala and I had my favorite, lasagna. Both were fresh and so delicious. Will definitely be coming back for seconds one day!
google avatar

Kellie D.

Yelp
We had rocket fuel and wow! Sitting outside, we soaked up the locale ambiance while enjoying this Fire Island delicacy. We peeled ourselves off our benches after our pre dinner cocktail and stumbled along to our next destination. Caution: one of these drinks is more than enough!!!
google avatar

Praxun W.

Yelp
Didn't expect it but, Arturo's was really cool. Everything about this place screams quality. Every thing I have ever gotten here has been fresh and tastes great. The servers are pretty friendly and attentive. You are in for a treat at Arturo's.

Tracy K.

Yelp
Traveling to NYC for first time. Arturo's was recommended and we would pass that recommendation along! Great portions and tasty pasta dishes! Service was great and very friendly! Pay in cash and get a little discount. We'd go back!!

Helen H.

Yelp
I love the old world ambience the incredible staff the incredible owners and wonderful food.. the hospitality shown here is unmatched anywhere on the ues..will keep me coming back for a long time..

Yelp
We intended to go to the Korean restaurant next door, but it was closed and we decided to check out this place instead. The ambiance is lovely and candle lit. One thing to note is that there's a 19.95 per person minimum, we weren't really hungry and planned to just get an appetizer each, so we had to order a third appetizer to meet the minimum. We got the ravioli, gnocchi, and broccoli rabe appetizer specials which were great.
google avatar

Arnica M.

Yelp
Food was good, service was very good. Not many ppl there for lunch try the arugula salad. Thanks for the pastries
google avatar

Hana L.

Yelp
Just moved to the neighborhood and tried this restaurant for the first time. The sauce on the chicken parmesan was too sweet, and the sauce on the ziti was too bitter. It's not very encouraging when an Italian restaurant can't get the sauce right. Wish I still lived in Brooklyn.
google avatar

Tamika P.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! Delicious and authentic with great service to match. The custom your order with no qualms. The tortellini portions are large and actually filled. The sauces were rich and well balanced. I will make this place a must to when on the east side.

M S.

Yelp
The food and service were both absolutely stellar. This place is a true neighborhood gem. They were also careful to check for proof of vaccination, which I appreciated. The clientele skews a bit older, but we felt very comfortable there with our kids in tow. I highly recommend the chicken Milanese and the calamari. We will absolutely be returning!
