Asador 44 Spanish Grill & Wine House

What a pleasant surprise of a restaurant. We had the fixed menu. The starter was amazing, such a flavour sensation. The main was cooked to perfection. Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures of the dessert due to the amount of wine consumed. It’s rare to find such a good restaurant with great service. We will be returning.

What a lovely surprise, it was a great place with excellent food, served hot and fresh. There was a great selection of wines too. Definitely recommend this place. Staff were attentive, friendly and tried to accommodate my needs as best they could. I am a little hard of hearing, and the acoustics of the restaurant made it difficult for me to hear conversations. I made the staff aware of this and they did their best to position us at a quieter area.

Visited here today to have lunch to celebrate my partners 70th birthday. We love Spain 🇪🇸 and Spanish food and wine so we decided to give this restaurant a go and boy we are glad we did. We decided to start ghe meal with some olives 🫒 and toasted sourdough bread with burnt onion butter, mmmm. Then for mains my partner had hake and I had octopus 🐙 . Both dishes were really delicious. We then decided to finish lunch with a dessert. I had the dark chocolate tart and my partner had the Blood orange Catalana. Both were excellent. We had a small carafe of Rioja and a beer.. Service was friendly and professional. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Heard a lot of good things about Asador 44, and on going there last night for my husbands birthday, it did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and efficient. Service was flawless. Food absolutely delicious. We shared some snack plates. All yummy. The rest of our party had the bone in sirloin and the roast suckling pig. I had the vegetarian dish of wild mushroom with artichoke and rice. Was stunning. One of the best mushroom dishes i have ever had. So don't be put off if you do not like meat. They nailed the vegetatian options 👏

My wife and I had a delightful lunch here yesterday. We booked a 12:30 sitting and it was an amazing experience from start to finish, we genuinely couldn’t fault it. The venue is lovely and relaxed, the service was warm, friendly and non-intrusive, and the food was absolutely spectacular. Apart from the amazing food, one of the standout things about this place is the wine. So many restaurants disappoint on that front, but not here. We ordered a carafe of the white special (El Muelle, Palomino Fino, 2023) and it completely blew me away for the price point, even with restaurant markup. I’m now actively hunting it down online. I also noticed they had one of my favourite reds, Aseginolaza & Leunda’s Birak, which I’ve only ever seen in my local wine merchant. It’s one of the most moreish, easy-drinking wines I’ve ever had, and seeing it there told me this place really knows its wine. I think all their offerings were Spanish too, as you'd expect. The only slip-up was that they accidentally left our two cocktails off the bill, which I pointed out and they corrected straight away. They thanked us repeatedly for being honest, which was lovely, but also a bit of a sad reflection on society. There’s no way I wouldn’t pay for something, especially when the whole experience was that good. For a price guide, between us we had snacks, starters, mains, a shared dessert, coffees, a 375ml carafe of wine, and two cocktails (which were fantastic too). The total was around £175 which included the 12% optional service charge. Not cheap, but absolutely worth it. An awesome place. We will be back!

Great service only surpassed by the quality of the food. Had the sharing lamb as a main , with prawn croquettes and sourdough to start. The tables are spaced out, the service not intrusive and the general atmosphere was good. Look forward to eating there again.

Could not recommend this place enough. We went for my brother’s graduation, and had the most fantastic meal. The staff were brilliant, the service was flawless - they were helpful and gave great suggestions. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried a load of the ‘snacks’ - everything was great, and really recommend the bread with sobresada butter. Then had the lamb and suckling pig sharing platters which were to die for. The meat was tasty, and pull-apart. We also had a number of sides which were fantastic - the artichokes, leek gratin, etc. Brilliant atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone in Cardiff!

Having been to bar 44 many times I thought I’d give this a try. I must say, the food and service just wasn’t quite as good as bar 44 even though it’s pricier. The atmosphere wasn’t great as there was a Christmas party of drunk people shouting so we could barely hear each other/talk. I’ll be sticking with bar 44 😌
