Amazing food and amazing feel. The music was perfect for that Saturday mid day chill commuter feel. It's a local sushi place. By people from Chicago. The atmosphere is fun and chill. Immensely those hole in the wall type staple that just feels like it's always been here. The fish was good and got some tea soup and salad too. Sat in the corner bar watching the window enjoying just existing in a piece of art. Vibrant colors, warm feel and good vibes all around.

Excellent restaurant with excellent sushi and service! Ordered the Asahi Roll, Sears Tower Roll, Black Dragon Roll, Avocado Torch Roll, and Orange Sunshine Roll and they were all delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The chef was super friendly and the prices were very reasonable. Some of the best sushi I've had in Chicago.

I've lived in Rogers Park my whole life and never really found a sushi place even close unless it was in Lincoln Square or downtown. Today I took a dive into the deep end and I cant wait to dive again! This BYOB stop might not LOOK BUSY INSIDE but Id be SHOCKED if they weren't busy with carryout! Nice big sizes of sushi so you're guaranteed a mouthful with each bite! You can taste the freshness in the fish and soft buttery texture of the meat. Flavors were on point on all 3 rolls and I cant wait to walk there again and pick up other rolls in the future!

Great sushi, some of the best I've ever had. Very nice staff. You can tell that they really have a passion for the food craft. The flavors are incredible. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Unfortunately unfriendly owners, 5 instead of 6 pieces per roll, ordered to go additionally got charged for extra $1.00 for placing myself to go order in person. Soy sauce wasn’t sealed and got spilled all over :( served very reserved miso soup cup. Well , i am puzzled , I got an impression they don’t people to return. Thanks

Usually a good quiet place to go for sushi. I tried the Bibimbap today and was underwhelmed. When I asked one of the owners if I could get a side of kimchi, she was very rude about it. Even though it was on the menu, she told me they didn’t carry it and blew me off. Disappointing visit.

This restaurant is so cool! So firstly, it's a small mom and pops type of vibe and those are always cool to go to. The menu is pretty extensive too! Sushi rolls, combos, ramen, and appetizers. The chef makes the rolls right up front. We had sushi combo A and each ordered ramen. I had the spicy ramen with beef. The meats with the ramen are extra but this could be a great vegetarian option for people because the meat isn't defaulted included. The friendliness of the chef and our server was very welcoming. The cool thing is, the restaurant is BYOB. So I brought a bottle to drink with the homies. I even offered the chef some but he declined respectfully and joked around with us too. I joked and said I would come back to bring the chef more drinks. Can't wait to come back for sure!

Attentive service in a tiny little shop with a nice counter by the window for plants and people watching. The food was dece and came out hot and fast. The seafood ramen was spicy and had a large prawn in it. Good for the location and the price but room for improvement.

Was hungry for something nearby and this place hit the spot the only thing was i couldn't find a menu anywhere online since I was in a rush so here you guys go.

I am very confused looking at the reviews, we went here a little after midday on a weekend. We were the only table in the restaurant and the water tasted like tapwater and was in plastic cups not a big deal. Just thought it was a little strange, I ordered a raw, salmon roll and quickly regretted my choice as we were sitting there, and I watched a bunch of flies flying around while the door was open on a pretty warm and humid day. Also noticed that there was a lot of raw fish out behind the counter that barely looked refrigerated. Even when I got the sushi I noticed the salmon was not cold at all. I also noticed that they had failed a health inspection for very serious reasons. I do not feel comfortable eating here due to the probability of getting sick. The cherry on top was them asking for a tip before we even got the receipt back.

This is my favorite sushi place in the city!!!!! The owners are the sweetest, and the service is always fast. Try the Avocado Torch - absolutely mind blowing. Also, their kimchi fried rice is to die for!!!! Give this place a try it's BYOB too :D

BEST RAMEN i've ever had! I don't remember the name of the sushi roll but it was like nothing we've ever tried before. The couple that owns it are the sweetest! Cozy and great prices.

Looking for sushi in East Rogers Park one evening, this was the nearest option available that served takeout. Kind of a small shop that resembles a pizzeria to me, save for, you know, their entire business model. Cool thing to know about here, they serve popular Korean dishes as well your sushi and other Japan favorites. Fish options are relatively pleasing speedy service as well. The actual sushi I feel was nothing exciting. While on the outside it was shaped to perfection, but after taking bites of this piece of raw fish, I don't get that rush of joy I usually have while eating sushi. Seriously, I mean I love me some rolls! I tried one of every filling type they had (fish, vegetarian, and specialty) and they all tasted delicious, but I recall I was really hungry that night. Is there better sushi in the city? Without a doubt. But this place is by no means terrible. Prices for rolls are real affordable, and they have great combo meals too for less than $15. The fact that they have some Korean dishes as well is real cool, so if you're able to find yourself in that neck of the woods by the lake, have a good Asian meal

Smalll spot. Large selection of maki, sashimi, pho bowls--all reasonably priced. Wonderful service from our personable server. Recommend Crunchy California Roll and Salmon, latter with cilantro and eel mixed in. Delightful taste with fresh ingredients. Questionable: Ordered water and got a glass of room temp tap water.

Came here with my professor for the first time and I was thoroughly surprised. I had always seen this place during my transit to and from work but never checked it out. It is very tiny on the side - not much seating when it gets super busy. There are lots of options for sushi on the menu. I got the shrimp tempura udon and I liked it a lot! The noodles were so soft and squishy. The broth wasn't too salty. The shrimp tempura came on the side though and I was a little bit confused with whether to eat that separately or put it into my soup. I did the former and enjoyed it just fine. We also had the asahi roll and that was pretty good too~ nice and crunchy. Overall, I would not mind coming here again. The prices are decent. I feel like most sushi places are pretty pricey anyways so it's pretty common compared to the average sushi restaurant.

I stayed at a near by hotel. The location is small the staff was friendly. I ordered noodles and veggie rolls. The portion of noodles were small. The flavor was good but not bursting as I needed to add soy sauce and hot sauce. Service always fast. My order was to go. There were people eating there a couple of large groups. They were able to split their bill individually.

My favorite spot on the northside. Consistently good and the prices are fair. Nothing ever tastes weirdly fishy. When I'm in town I go at least once a week. Definitely surpass my budget but the rolls are just so good. Avocado torch is my go to!

Asahi was recommended by a coworker and I was not disappointed. The seafood udon was so tasty and had the right proportion of everything! Super yummy. Will visit again!

The sushi rolls here are individually quite large and taste decent. The sashimi was not the best but overall I would say this place is worth visiting especially if you want fast service with no wait to dine in. Their menu features not just sushi but also ramen as well as Korean food. Our server was super sweet and polite, frequently checking in with us.

Very good sushi. Fish was fresh. Spicy tuna roll was a bit salty for me but overall enjoyed the sushi platter I got. Miso soup was flavorful. Support local!

This place is simple, but the food is so tasty! The owners/workers are super kind and sweet, and the price point is so affordable. Honestly, the food, pricing, and service deserve 5 stars, but I have to give 4 because there is no bathroom for customers and no A/C. Other than that, awesome place!

Going to the New 400? Need a quick bite? Want somewhere to down that bottle of discount Sirah that's been sitting on your wine rack for the past couple weeks? Then, look no further than Asahi sushi! Obviously, as the name states, they have sushi but this BYOB north side establishment also offers a variety of other noodle dishes and entrees. When the boy and I went there for a date night, we tried a variety of their signature rolls, basic maki rolls and nigiri. Everything was fresh and came out pretty quickly. Not to mention the server was fantastic. We were in and out in time to walk over to 400. Side note: If you don't have a bottle of Sirah at the ready, there's a liquor store across the street that has a decent selection of $10 wines.

As a broke college student, this is the place I go to satisfy my sushi cravings. Against all odds, I still buy sushi despite being a student. I have tried both the special rolls & regular rolls. I prefer the regular rolls because they're around the $6 range instead of the $12 range for some of the special rolls. I highly recommend the vegetable spring roll ($3.95). The flavors and crunch is really nice. The best spring rolls in Rogers Park, guaranteed (clear wrap not fried like egg rolls). I enjoy the family like ambiance in the shop. A definite fun and quick spot to stop by, only .15 miles (3 minute) walk from the beach. Often times people love to be pretentious about sushi. but guess what? sushi refers to only the vinegar & rice. Maki refers to the actual rolls, and sushi was not originally meant to be consumed in 1 bite increments. It started as street food for the working class (ironically that sounded pretentious). so if youre spending around $10, understand the context. we're not in Tokyo wearing $500 A bathing ape hoodies eating . we're enjoying nice, fresh, and beautiful sushi in Rogers Park. BYOB and delicious sushi and veggie gyoza! Id normally get meat but my friend was a vegetarian and the veggie gyoza was delicious!! Loved the rolls and split a bottle of wine from the liquor store across the street will for sure be back.

Terrible. Ramen that tastes the same as the 1$ packs. Taste like they use the same seasoning too. No authenticity, totally ripping people off and making mad profit because I know for a fact they use store bought ramen. If I could rate it a 0 I would. Don't waste your money!!!!

This place is basically across the street from me, so when I get that sushi craving this is where I go. I usually just get take out, but I've dined in a couple times. It's not, like, ambiance central, but sometimes it's nice to eat while sitting somewhere that's not my couch. They have a nice variety of rolls, ranging from your basics (spicy tuna, sweet potato, etc) to decked out house creations to tickle your fancy. Reasonable prices and a student discount mean this is/should be a hot spot for Loyola students. I sense undergrad date nights happening here. They have other things--udon soup, for example--but all I ever get is sushi. It's yummy, affordable and in the neighborhood. Are there better sushi places in Chicago? For sure. But for a quick stop in my neighborhood Asahi Roll can't be beat.

This place has the best sushi ever. Also very reasonably priced. Such a cute little shop with amazing staff. Very quick service, almost get my food in 10 minutes every time. Definitely a must try!!

My wife and I were in Chicago for a family occasion and then business meetings when we had a free evening. We looked at Yelp for a well reviewed, family-owned, ethnic restaurant. Bonus points for one with a BYOB policy. We scored. The husband and wife owners greeted is warmly as we walked in the door. That small gesture made a world of difference yet we weren't surprised given the similar comments by other Yelpers. Their son -- a college student -- was our waiter and did a great job. He clearly took pride in his family's ability to serve great food and make their customers feel like guests. We bought a bottle of sake across the street for $16.95 and enjoyed that with dinner. We went with Combo B, vegetable fried dumplings, and a dragon roll. The combo was superb. Every piece of sushi was well prepared by the father feet away from us and delicious. The combo gave you the option of a California or spicy tuna roll. We went with the latter. Yum. Loved it! The eel sushi was the best I've had and I've had my fair share. Warm, tasty, melt in your mouth. That's why we went with the dragon roll as its primary protein was eel and it also had avocado and shrimp tempura. Again, yum. The dumplings were very good but not any better than many others I've had. I would order them again but they weren't good enough to bring us back if that had been all we are. As a bonus, we received 10 percent off for checking in on Yelp. Loyola students get the same discount with student ID's. I very much look forward to coming back.

We ordered Seafood noodles and California roll and shrimp fried rice. Personally I don't like the fried rice as I don't like sweet dishes. The noodles are good by the way. And the roll is just ok, have to say.

So rude. I recently moved into the neighborhood and have been in several times but I walked out tonight because they were so rude and inconsiderate because I was dining alone. There were several empty tables but they didn't want me to sit at one and then after I sat they repeatedly ignored me even tho I was ready to order until a tiny table opened up and asked me to move. I would have if they were not so unfriendly about it and hadn't delayed waiting on me.

It wasn't like which I tried before in another sushi restaurant. But place is nice and clean. It will be better if there will be more types of fried sushi rolls

A small, local restaurant with very friendly owners. I ordered the fried chicken rice and shoyu ramen for takeout, since I wasn't in the mood for sushi. Both were good, and I will definitely be coming back to try out there sushi.

This place was amazing. Hands down a Rogers Park gem. I've had sushi all over the world and all over Chicago but never been here, and I sincerely regret not going sooner. It was fantastic, amongst the best I've ever had. Seriously. It's a small interior but enough room for all the customers that came in - we were never the only ones in there. The waiter was incredible at his job, bringing us glasses when one of our party bought beer from a store across the way, impeccable treatment, extraordinarily polite. You bet we tipped him good. But the food. Okay, listen. I wish I had all the money and all the appetite to try all of the food there, because whoa. So many choices and all sound amazing! We got the Latino Loco, Smokey Bear, and two others I can't recall right now - but none disappointed! We also got spicy ramen and regular ramen. Latino Loco was unlike anything I've ever had - jalapeños, spicy mayo, cilantro, so so so good! Smokey Bear too hit all the right flavors. The ramens came in huge bowls but were so good we didn't even notice how fast we ate it and how full we were, we had to had to finish! Bonus, it's BYOB and there's a liquor shop right across the street. Go here. Couldn't recommend it enough! Plus, Loyola student discount? Heck yeah!

Ordered takeout from them last night - couple of Ramen dishes. The woman who took my order called me back shortly after as she realized that we'd ordered all vegetarian food to let us know there was chicken stock in the ramen. I thought that was really next-level good customer service. Plus the ramen and sushi are so very tasty. This place is so good.

Would totally recommend this place for sushi. Friendly, quick service and very good food, especially the sushi. I have had other dishes that I didn't care as much for, but I also think I stepped a bit further out of my comfort zone than I should have, so take that for what it is worth. Want to hit this point again - the people that work there are very friendly and welcoming. I will continue to go back.

Excellent sushi. Fresh. The Asahi roll is da bomb. Friendly, family owned. Also a variety of Asian dishes including Korean. Smallish, but usually able to get a table (in non-Covid world).

I hope to make this small gem of a place a go-to for post beach yoga sushi. It is easy to miss from busy Sheridan road but luckily my friend who lives in the neighborhood suggested we try it. The menu feels a bit overwhelming with all the specialty maki choices and it took me a minute to read through the various ingredients. I normally prefer nigiri but am prone to ordering makis when dining with friends because they are easy to share and more budget friendly. Their seaweed salad was excellent with just enough dressing for maximum flavor but not so much as to drench the seaweed greens. I also ordered the John Hancock maki, with white tuna or escolar, crab, avocado, masago and lettuce in a red-soy rice wrapping and "special sauce." Special sauce actually turned out to be 2 sauces: a sriracha aioli and eel sauce. I wish I had followed my intuition to ask them to hold the eel sauce. It added a sweetness that detracts from otherwise good quality fish and fresh ingredients. I love that this place is BYO. One little downside: they lacked a table chiller and I resorted to ice in my sake to chill it. A chiller would have been nice, especially on a warm summer night that calls for cold sake. Otherwise this place nails it with fresh ingredients, good maki variety and decent prices.

The plain yellowtail roll was great. The rainbow dragon roll? Definitely overpriced for $15 and not even filled with fish. It has a few thin slices on top and the inside is filled with cucumber and tempura flakes. I also don't like to have to dip a special roll in soy sauce if the roll already has sauce...I usually don't have to, but this one had very little and was completely dry. Maybe the tempura flakes on the inside didn't help. Anyways, I would get the yellowtail roll, but the other one was quite disappointing. /shrug This was our afternoon snack so we didn't get more.

Is very small & nice place to have Ramen & Suhsi place.the Suhsi very fresh & ramen noodles soup is very yummy my both kids love the food.

I try to be fair in my approach to giving reviews. I wanted to start by saying that before I rip this place apart. They are very rude and condescending. They specify on the app that you get a 10% discount but they would not allow it because I've eaten there more than once. The owner which is a older male was very rude and unaccommodating. When I got my food it was sloppily thrown together. I experienced this rude Behavior once before at this place but I decided to give them another chance. I ordered from this restaurant and had delivery so I thought it would be fine if I go there and pick up my food. I was sadly mistaken. Never again will I eat in this establishment. You can't treat people with disrespect and disdain and think that they're going to continue to patronize you. I'm so upset with this place.

Well.... Although this was. Notice past tense was my favorite local sushi spot I will not be revisiting. The yelp check in for a 10% discount doesn't specify how many times you can use it. However the owner noticed me and asked me had I used it before. I said yes. He replied well you can't use it anymore in a nasty tone! I said well it doesn't specify that on Yelp and if that's the case you should probably update it in the system. He said yeah no. So this is not the first time he has had a nasty attitude but again it is a local spot and it is pretty good but I will not tolerate nasty attitudes and it would show customer appreciation if he decided to give Amir $2 off every order just food for thought. But I am just a measly consumer. C'est la vie!

A small, family-owned restaurant with fantastic sushi and many other menu items, as well. The sushi is priced VERY competitively and the portions are generous! Their Miso soup is the the bomb and they have other appetizers that are just as delicious. Staff is friendly and fast. I love the fact this place is just a block from my apartment.

Last night, my companion and I had a hankering for some sushi. Learning that Asahi Roll was so close to our apartment was a delightful surprise! It's a little storefront with brightly painted walls that make it feel cheerful even on an overcast day. The spicy tuna roll was the spiciest that I've ever had. Very yummy because the spice isn't simply in the form of sriracha mayo. LOVE the unagi roll, simple yet smoky, sweet and delicious. There's a whole page in the menu devoted to their special rolls, so it was difficult to choose, but the Smokey Bear won our hearts and was sweeter than anticipated but scrumptious. The service was so friendly and checked up on us, grinning when we reported that everything was awesome. We were also wished a good night as we departed, which made me feel warm and fuzzy. Major bonus: the other guests were so lovely they shouted me down when I almost left my purse behind.

Sushi is awesome. I wish I could give fractions of starts cause this place is more like a 4.3, but the owner is a real cultured gentleman who kicks ass at rolling sushi and taking care of you as a customer. Great vibes, pretty darn good sushi for the operation that it is. Definitely support this place!!!

Don't let this place fool you. It's a hidden gem and the locals know it. I'm not a huge sushi fan so I got the asparagus wrapped in beef appetizer, and beef teriyaki with a side of kimchi. It was delicious. Try the Japanese soda. Great service too.

Delicious. Reasonably priced. Friendly. Perhaps a shame it is BYOB, vs having a huge selection of saki? Does not matter. There is a bar with "package" sales next door, and a liquor store across the street. OK, back to fish. A typical selection of rolls. I may seen one or two specialty rolls that I had not seen before? The spicy tuna is a bit spicier than others; a positive attribute from my POV. Two visits now, with different items on both visit. Everything was great.

Loved this neighborhood place in prospect park. Small family owned, it felt warm and friendly. The husband was the sushi chef and said hello as we walked in. The wife was the hot food chef and welcomed and seated us. Later the son was our server. He was helping his parents for the summer and he was a kind and attentive server. I loved the family feel. We had sushi and it was very fresh and delicious. We got the dragon roll which was eel based and I love eel and this was the perfect taste and consistency. We also had a shrimp tempura roll with avocado. This was also fresh and excellent. One thing that was fun and different for me being from Minneapolis is that many of the restaurants had bring your own bottle (BYOB) and there was a liquor store across the street so we bought saki and brought it with us. I definitely recommend this place. If I lived in the neighborhood this would be a frequent stop.
