Where to Eat and Drink in Belle Meade

"Locals Belle Meade residents flock to Asahi thanks to its large collection of traditional and specialty rolls. You’ll have to head to the restaurant, which is tucked in a strip mall, to enjoy your maki since delivery isn’t currently available." - Kellie Walton

Google
We stumbled upon this place by chance and decided to order takeout -- and we're so glad we did! From that very first experience, we were impressed not only by the flavorful food but also by the warm hospitality of the owners. They were incredibly helpful and kind, even with just a takeout order, which left a lasting impression. The service was quick, but the quality of the food certainly didn't suffer. Everything we tried was packed with flavor and clearly made with care. The chicken pad Thai and vegetable green curry quickly became our favorites -- both dishes had depth of flavors and were absolutely delicious. The food alone is enough to bring anyone back, but the inviting atmosphere and genuine hospitality really elevate the experience. We can't wait to dine in very soon!

Google
Great meal! My husband and I were craving sushi and stopped in yesterday for lunch. The service was wonderful and very inviting. Our sushi was fresh and delicious! We also got the gyoza as an app! We will be back when we’re in the area 😊

Google
I got the chicken Pad Thai and it was amazing! Fresh fruitiness with peanut crumbles and fresh squeezed lime. The spice level at 3 was perfect where it did not overpower the flavors. We got to chat with the owner, a lovely friendly woman. Support your local business and get some awesome food here.

Google
Absolutely fantastic experience at this sushi and Thai restaurant! The sushi was fresh and flavorful, and the Thai dishes were incredibly delicious. The ambiance was lovely, and the server was top-notch and kind spoken. Can't wait to return!

Google
Delicious food! We came in on a weeknight and got the pad Thai and Pad Ka Prow Thai-style with ground pork and a fried egg. We also enjoyed the egg rolls which were excellent. Highly recommend for Thai food in the Belle Meade area of Nashville

Google
By far the best Thai curry I have ever had in my life, coming from a well traveled chef… their sushi is creative and uniquely them, they are small but MIGHTY!! Do yourself a favor and try them out, you’ll be back

Mary Smith

Google
The food was amazing! My husband and I went for lunch and had sushi, tempera shrimp, crab rangoon and fried rice. The owner, who waited on us, cooked our food and took excellent care of us. She was fantastic! We will be back.

Google
This was our first time and it did not disappoint. Very friendly and attentive service, delicious fresh food and very reasonable prices! They even have the cutest little side plates. We will be back!

Yelp
Asahi is under new ownership in the past year. It's now a sushi and Thai restaurant. Owners are nice and knowledgeable about their food. Clean space and they take pride in their restaurant. Food was great. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
This is a favorite Thai place in the greater Nashville area. The Pad Thai is great, crab ragoons ate the best. Also you have to get a salad with the homemade ginger dressing. We order takeout here a lot. Highly recommend. It's also a great lunch spot. The place is clean and quaint. The people are very friendly and helpful in deciding what to get.... I haven't found anything I didn't like .... And they have Popping Boba...and great Sushi!!!! Can't say enough good things!!!

Yelp
Sushi is so good! Yum! Loved the music city roll and the VIP roll. The staff is very friendly and truly can do it all!

Yelp
We had a good experience at this restaurant, the service and food was good. The crab rangoon was my favorite.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite place to go for all my sushi cravings! Born and raised in the Nashville area and this is my go to spot. Not only are they in the most convenient location, the service, atmosphere, and quality of food is incredible. Asahi Japanese Sushi is a family owned restaurant as well. It's the type of place you can always count on having a 10/10 experience - the best service, and just the yummiest foods. I mean look at my meal!!

Yelp
Good sushi and nice quiet atmosphere at restaurant. Good, quick service in house and for take out.

Susie Q.

Yelp
Awesome food, great service friendly staff!!! We love the food and will be back definitely recommend trying their Thai food.

Shary E.

Yelp
Had heard that the new owners of Asahi had added some Thai dishes to the mostly Japanese menu. As we live nearby, I wanted to try it for myself. I was pleasantly surprised to find a very clean and welcoming environment. The owners and wait staff were very personable and gave good suggestions. For our appetizer we tried one of their special sushi rolls which was very fresh, filled with a variety of fish and covered in eel and eel sauce. I had one of the salads and my husband tried the Tom Kha soup which was a good sized portion and very flavorful which he said might be one of the best versions he has tried... We then shared a Thai stir fry dish with fresh shrimp, and a variety of vegetables in a brown sauce. It was definitely a good meal and we will be back for sure. They do take-out as well as dine in service. There was mention of desserts to try which we will try next time when we are not so full! They were gracious enough to give us each our own little Rambutan fruit to leave with a sweet taste. Now that is hospitality!

Sarah Beth E.

Yelp
My family and I have been dining here since it was in its original location next to Phillips Toy Mart. The sushi is always delicious and fresh. Have yet to try the Thai dishes. Let's give Asahi some love!

Yelp
We were looking for a lunch stop on our way to Cheekwood botanical gardens. Found this little gem via the map and ratings. This place is not doing a lot of business, but it should be because the sushi was delicious. We had the ginger salad, very good, the spicy edamame, very good, and we had three rolls, the Firecracker, the Volcano, and the Asahi Special and they were all excellent. The owner was having to handle the entire restaurant by herself and she did a wonderful job. Sadly, she is struggling to hire employees because her business level is too low, probably due in-part to being lost in a fairly cramped little strip mall. You really should try this place, the food is excellent and it would be a real shame if it doesn't sustain.

Reagan W.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick lunch, and had some great red curry chicken and Pad Thai. Definitely recommend the Thai menu they have, for carry out or dine in. Owner's are super friendly and helpful. Restaurant is charming. We'll be back to try the sushi side of the menu soon!

Matthew R.

Yelp
Sushi is amazing here! I had the yellowtail and the eel nigiri and they were so big and amazing. The service is perfect, very homey and nice. The vibe of the place is so cute and has something for everyone. Can't wait to try more of their menu. Can't recommend this place enough.

Sarah W.

Yelp
I was so sad about my order. It was very overpriced, especially for the quality and quantity I received. I'm truly not one to complain and am easily pleased, and this food just made me sad. I couldn't even take a picture of it. The meat was over cooked, and the prices were so high for what you actually received. The rolls were not made correctly, and the raw sushi quality was poor. Will sadly not be coming back.

Yelp
Best sushi in Nashville. Solid and friendly service. The green tea ice cream is fantastic. I absolutely love this gem.

Angela F.

Yelp
Best sushi in west Nashville hands down and in the greater Nashville area! Best family that runs it and has been for over 20 years!
google avatar

Ruta P.

Yelp
This is a great family run sushi joint. I really enjoyed our lunch today. The fish and quality of ingredients was top notch. Ambiance is a little low and maybe it is a little too quiet, however, modern trends aside, the food is good! Really, aren't we there to just have a good sushi meal? I had the firecracker roll and hubby had the Red Dragon. Both were delicious and fresh. The California roll and salad were very, very tasty. Try Asahi, you will NOT be sorry. Yum

TB M.

Yelp
so sad about new ownership. this was such a great neighborhood restaurant. now, it's nothing short of Kroger grade sushi now with some soy sauce packets and forks on the side.
google avatar

Andrew D. M.

Yelp
Love it -- best sushi in Nashville. My only frustration is that they don't have a website. So their menu is almost impossible to find. They could have a free aboutme page with a menu--or claim this site from Yelp and again for FREE and place their menu here.
google avatar

Barry M.

Yelp
This is a nice mom and pop place. We have gone here and the previous place for years. The last two times we have come it has been frustrating. The wait is horrible if you dine in. The sushi chef has lost our order again tonight. We were there for an hour. Had soup, salad, beverage. Wife even brought edamame to tide us over. Checked on order. 5th in line. How do the orders called in get in front of my order? Enough!!!! We will never come here again.

Victoria G.

Yelp
The food is always great! I love how you can sit at the bar and watch them make your sushi roll. The owners are super friendly as well.

Christy C.

Yelp
Great local spot for delicious sushi. Have been coming here for a bit and the food and atmosphere is always solid. Love it!

Tristan M.

Yelp
I had an amazing time here! Staff is kind and the sushi is amazing. I had the Titan Roll & Playgirl Roll

Courtney S.

Yelp
This restaurant is a must go to in Nashville! I love the authenticity of the sushi and that it is a family run business. The staff makes me feel so welcome as soon as I walk in the door. This is our go to takeout spot for a cozy evening in as well!

Jenny C.

Yelp
One of my nashville favorites! Located in the belle meade area, the sushi is so delicious and the owners are so kind and friendly! Great prices too and a calm atmosphere!

Yelp
My husband and son and I went tonight and were so impressed. The sushi was fresh - some of the best I've had in a long time. And the service was excellent. Such a friendly place. And clean. We'll be back.

James S.

Yelp
One of my favorite sushi places on the planet. Great family friendly vibes. And most importantly EVEN better sushi for an affordable price. Very relaxing vibes and their green tea ice cream is absolutely to die for!

Michael H.

Yelp
I tried this place for the first time and it was absolutely fabulous. I would almost always go to a Japanese restaurant for sushi, but it was lunchtime and I felt more like just a teriyaki combo kind of thing. So, I got the teriyaki salmon, and it was absolutely the best that I've had in my life. The miso soup was deeply colored and flavorful, the salad and ginger dressing fresh, and the salmon came out sizzling/steaming and perfectly cooked (the skillet stayed hot the entire meal!). I cannot wait to go back and try the sushi.
google avatar

Helen W.

Yelp
I have no problems paying for great cuisine, but the fact that no prices are posted annoying. Why do I need to ask?

Olivia C.

Yelp
Such a yummy sushi place! The servers were so extremely friendly and welcoming, and the prices are great too! The vibes were nice and chill and i would highly recommend!

Kayla B.

Yelp
Dear god. All I can say positive is that the owners are nice. But unfortunately, I can't taste "nice" in a sushi roll. The salads we had came with brown ginger dressing that was most certainly in a state of fermentation. The sushi I received has to be the worst I've ever eaten, grocery store sushi tastes better. We came in at 1pm, but were told they only had "dinner menu" prices, no lunch. I wish we had walked out then! The male owner asked me if the Philadelphia roll was supposed to come in cut up pieces! He didn't even know! The food you see in the pictures I added cost $55!! They don't even have a soda fountain machine, just cans they pour into your cup. Do not waste your money. I wish we could have just picked other food off the menu, but it all was pretty bad.

Katy E.

Yelp
The best food ever, seriously. I wish they would listen when I ask to not put onions on my lomein. Because they barely give any noodles and just onion and veggies and I keep repeating that in my order but they keep ignoring it. But I can't escape the fact that this place is delicious! I would have given you five stars but I have repeated the same thing over five times and you just ignore it.

Adi V.

Yelp
Love this is one of the RARE sushi places in Nashville authentically Japanese. This is real, delicious, and no gimmicks since the clientele is all local. More updates to come. Salmon & tuna chirashi made with Huge portion of fish. Fresh. Filling. Delicious.

Hungry B.

Yelp
Great quality and service! Fresh variety of rolls and sushi. Sake bombs! Will be back!

Yelp
I feel the need to write this review to counter all of the bad reviews! My husband and I have been eating at Asahi since it resided on the corner of Harding Pike and Harding Place. I do miss the hole in the wall location a bit but the newer location is more spacious. Luke and his wife are lovely people and we like supporting a locally owned family business. When reading the bad reviews I kept thinking people are confusing Asahi with a different Japanese restaurant because we've never encountered the problems others are describing. First and foremost, the sushi is always fresh! In all the years eating there we've never had any fish that seemed even slightly "off" as one person described. While we order rolls we mostly choose Nigiri where it's imperative it is fresh because you can't camouflage the taste with the ingredients you might find in a roll. We eat Salmon, Tuna, Yellow Tail Octopus etc. There are a variety of rolls with choices that have grown over the years and we each have our favorites. My current favorite is the Music City roll and of course the California roll. The ingredients in each roll are on the menu so no surprises there. We've also both had Chicken and Shrimp teriyaki and enjoyed both. It's never dry and always flavorful. The beer is always cold. People have mentioned that you don't see many customers, however it all depends on the day and time. What many don't realize is Asahi also has a huge take out business! Our orders are split between take out and eat in but we have Asahi at least once a week. We've eaten at other Sushi restaurants around town but Asahi is hands down our favorite. It's laid back and family friendly and easy to spot a neighbor or two. Many of the Yelp reviews are old for Asahi so I actually would not use Yelp as my primary review source for this restaurant.

Lindsay D.

Yelp
Absolutely cannot express how wonderful Asahi is! The food is simply superb. Without a doubt, my favorite miso soup! Asahi has been favorite of my family for years!

Yelp
I should preface every sushi bar review I write with - if I could I would eat sushi for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Asahi is a mix of good and disappointing. The good: Service - wonderfully friendly and fast. Sushi (as in the vinegar rice) - solid. The tamago (egg) - good. (I have been told that it is tradition to have tamago at the end of the meal.) The disappointing: The fish - Overall, the fish was of poor quality. Most pieces lacked the "pop" of flavor that I expect from the raw fish served at sushi bars. The texture was also subpar. Most concerning was that some pieces were overall to "fishy" - "fishy" is a bad way.

Chef Mary S.

Yelp
Delicious quick lunch. Had the shrimp teriyaki and receiveD soup, salad, rice, California sushi and a delicious tangerine. Definitely give it a try. Yummy healthy lunch.
google avatar

Lyn H.

Yelp
Asahi is a great neighborhood go-to that we frequent often for dine-in or take-out. Delicious, and like some of the other reviews say - no gimmicks, just authentic and fresh. They get creative with their special rolls. Traditional sushi bar showcases fresh-made to order. (Not sitting on a conveyer belt for questionable amounts of time.) We have lived in the neighborhood for almost 18 years and Asahi has always been a neighborhood favorite.
google avatar

Sean J.

Yelp
Our family absolutely loves Asahi. The husband wife duo is so welcoming. The ambiance is calm and tranquil. I order sashimi and have always had a great experience, which is very rare for most Nashville sushi restaurants. Great for pick a quick pick up order. The Kids beg us to come every week.

Yelp
The Google reviews were great so we were really excited to try, but sadly this was the worst sushi I have ever had, hands down. Wish we had checked Yelp before eating. They were nice, but worst meal ever. The menu had a ton of rolls with imitation crab or were fried with mayo on top, nothing special and most were quite uninspired and just strange. Couldn't find a standard roll, so tried to order closest to our taste. Now I know when I see a menu like that to just run. Asked for no crab in one roll, the waitress proudly brought out the roll without avocado, rather than omitting crab. But she did not understand English enough to fix this. Fine, but onto the rest. They all tasted fishy, like fish that had been brought to temperature incorrectly or had been stored too long. Just....bad. One roll taste kind of chemically, never tasted anything so awful, and I had nowhere to spit it out unfortunately. I tried a couple more, but still had that bad taste in my mouth! Even after a little ginger. The eel roll was....passable? But not tasty. They were nice, but that is the good part. The meal was way too overpriced for the quality and the quality really makes me wonder about their food safety practices. Everything tastes like it was either going bad or already bad. Don't bother.

Yelp
Wow. This was HUGE disappointment. Sushi rice is not prepped properly. 1)The half of the rice that was on the rice shouldn't be stuck on your fingers. 2) all the cucumber don't and shouldn't be chopped thin. It makes the cucumbers' water to bleed out. 3) I ate three different kinds of rolls and ALL of them had HUMAN HAIR in it. I'm not looking for sushi place I'll find in my home (Tokyo, Japan) but IF this is a Japanese restaurant, somethings needs improvement
google avatar

Lysandra V.

Yelp
Yummy specialty rolls and very friendly staff. They even gave us free orange slices and red velvet cupcakes at the end! Will be back soon!

Chelsea R.

Yelp
Had a great experience here! The fried rice was super fresh and delicious and the rolls were actually cheaper than I was expecting. 2 people ate plenty for a total of $30. Came right when they opened and had good, quick service.
google avatar

Eliza R.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I went here and it was terrible. The place wasn't crowded - there were only 2 other tables - but the service was *extremely* slow and the waiter was unpleasant. We sat there forever waiting for our check and once we finally got it, we still had to wait ages to get our change. The sushi itself was overpriced and the worst I've ever had, and I'm a big sushi fan (I've been to all types of places - the restaurant doesn't have to be high-end to have good sushi). The rice tasted old and stale, and the fish was tough, chewy and bland. I will never come back to Asahi again and you should stay away!
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
I don't like to give bad reviews, but I think people need to be warned about this place. I stopped in for a quick lunch before a meeting in this area. So wish I would have checked yelp first! I couldn't agree more with Lizzie's comments. It was really bad! Didn't taste fresh, maybe some kind of weird chemical taste to it. I wanted to spit it out. I had to force it down. Then I got the bill! Whoa, SO expensive for a very average roll. I walked out so disappointed! Worst sushi place in Nashville hands down and way overpriced. The two stars are for the nice service. I will give them that. I hope they make improvements.

Yelp
I love Asahi Sushi. I should preface this review by stating that if it involves mayo, a fryer, or fruit; I can promise you I'm not interested. I don't eat fancy rolls. Fancy sushi for me, is a unique fish that I haven't had before. Asahi's fish is fresh. As a result, the flavor is full and rich and the texture is perfect. Their house salad isn't the best that I've ever had. Their seaweed salad is good as well. I also really enjoy their vegetable tempura and the Japanese pickles. If you are a nigiri sushi fanatic, ask the sushi chef what he recommends. The other night he suggested monkfish liver. It was really good. He's also got my boyfriend and I hooked on this amazing tuna and bonita. One of the rolls that we do enjoy here is the salmon skin roll. Crunchy and delicious. No one eats here. I don't know why. As a result, the service has always been really great! I don't think that they are slower than any other sushi restaurant. My ONLY problem with Asahi is that they are located in Belle Meade and it's a small hike for us to get over there. It's probably for the best. If they were closer, I'd probably turn into a piece of sushi because I'd eat here everyday.

Holley H.

Yelp
Not good food. And Overpriced for the quality of the food. I decided to stop in and give it a shot for lunch today, as it is very close to my work. Wish I didn't stop in. The sushi tastes worse than supermarket sushi. They didn't give me enough ginger or wasabi. My appetizer came out after my entree. I should have left when I saw that I was the only customer in the entire restaurant. I won't return. I'll drive the extra 2 miles to go to the "Ninki" sushi place. If you're in this area I'd advise to go to Ninki rather than this place.
google avatar

Martina N.

Yelp
I've eaten at many sushi places in the US and overseas. That being said, this place has some of the best sushi I've ever had. The fish is fresh and delicious, the Wasabi and ginger is great and the rice is perfect. Their other food is also really delicious. I've been coming to this place for almost 9 years and will continue to come! Fantastic restaurant!
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
Small family-owned operation - good option for the area. Never a wait, everything is hand prepared, it's not the most romantic or charming environment, but you can get good sushi, reasonable prices and a very welcoming staff. It's no better or worse than any of the other run-of-the-mill sushi restaurants in town. I go back because the food is pretty good and Luke is so nice.
