"A new tapas restaurant called Asaysia is slated to debut next week in downtown Detroit near the borders of Harmonie Park and Greektown. The restaurant, owned by general manager Matt Palmer, will be the first of three projects that will fill a 16,500-square-foot space at 1452 Brush St., according to a release. The 5,000-square-foot Asaysia Plates to Share will seat 150 patrons in a space decked out in stainless steel, quartz, and vintage furnishings including booths made from reclaimed church pews. Rounding out the space, customers can expect to see photos of well-known Detroiters at the entrance and “a representation of the renowned artist Diego Rivera’s Detroit industry murals.” Asaysia’s menu, developed by chef Larry Middlebrooks, will feature options like stone-fired pizza, caesar salad, cast iron-seared pork chops, and more. From the bar, look out for wines selected by sommelier Filippo Morandi alongside beer and cocktails. The restaurant is scheduled to open to the public on March 15 for dinner and will eventually add lunch and brunch service. Meanwhile, two more sister projects are in the works surrounding Asaysia. An unnamed high-end restaurant is expected to open this spring, followed by a more casual restaurant geared to sports fans. Asaysia will open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday." - Brenna Houck

Nice variety of tapas that were delicious. Very friendly staff at this new place. Standouts of the evening were the barrota with lentil (a perfect combination!), the spicy carrots, and the salmon. Nice wine menu as well. Would come back again!

The food and atmosphere was beyond beautiful...I would like to thank the owner for making my son 21st birthday the best. Your hospitality was phenomenal. Most of all the chandelier was spectacular, which added the ambiance with the classic music...again thank you Asaysia Wine & Dine staff and owner. I will definitely be back.❤❤❤❤

It's a brand new restaurant! Everything is so shiny best part, awesome food and great atmosphere! Servers were really nice and the head chef actually talked to the guest!

First time coming here to celebrate my birthday. I must say me and everyone I was with was pleasantly surprised with the look and feel of the place along with the attentive, professional and polite staff. Now on to the food and drinks. The menu was straightforward with no guesswork about price. Excellent variety and the lamb chops were excellent. Chef Larry runs an excellent kitchen. Our waiter Eddie was quite knowledgeable about the menu and wine selection. Went on a small tour of the restaurant and was impressed on what's in there figure plans. I will definitely be back. Keep up the good work you've gained new customers.

The design of the restaurant is really cool, though it’s going to be a challenge for them to ever have a full house, the place is huge. The positive things to say stop there. The staff is clueless which makes sense since the place was empty on a Friday night. The drinks are terrible and took for ever to come out, they probably can’t afford an actual bartender with how slow they are. The food for the most part isn’t bad but it’s nothing special for the price. No imagination and the quality of some of the ingredients was lacking. There are too many good restaurants in the city right now for you to waste your time and money here. They must be buying these 5 star reviews.

Absolutely terrible experience – rude staff, awful food, embarrassing environment and all around an abysmal, unprofessional restaurant. We went for an office party where we had about thirty people, which may seem like a tall order for a restaurant, except they were otherwise nearly empty. While our party was started, we had asked the restaurant to play music for us. Other than our conversation, the restaurant was awkwardly silent. When they tried to play music, it was clear their speakers were blown. We had just asked the staff to turn it off. It took them about ten minutes to get around to doing such a simple task. This was foreshadowing for the rest of the evening. The wait staff was unable to handle the simplest of tasks like taking a drink order. The staff would order and bring back drinks one or two at a time, and on several occasions just never brought drinks that we ordered at all. This included mixed drinks and simple things like sodas, or keeping our water glasses filled. One of our drink glasses also had smudged lipstick over it – they couldn't even bring us clean glasses. Eventually, the beleaguered staff avoided taking new drink orders and would scurry out of the room as fast as they could. One of our two waitresses in particular acted inconvenienced every time someone needed something; she rolled her eyes with disdain anytime one of our party would try to talk to her. Before our main course, we were brought appetizers. The appetizers I had were cold. My wife double checked their social media, and pictures of multiple plates of appetizers were posted an hour before we got there. We're certain they prepared those appetizers that far ahead of time, camped them underneath a warming plate, and served them to us an hour later. At one point, the staff needed to close the bathrooms, not sure why. We were told it would be momentary, and we didn't receive an explanation. Several of us had to leave the premises to find a restroom at the hotel across the street. When we made it back, they had locked the doors. We had to knock and wait for the hostess to walk by let us in. Ordering food itself was comical. The staff and manager brought us paper menus, each with a sub portion of the menu they placed online. Each menu was numbered in the top right corner. We were asked to circle which entre and which side we wanted. This was supposed to be moderate to upscale dining experience, and our waitresses couldn't be bothered to write down our orders. Also, our waitresses didn't ask us how we would like our meals prepared. For example, I ordered a steak, and it came out over cooked, past the point of an edible well-done steak, and had the consistency of rubber. They claim their food is prepared and made from scratch. For example, they claim their fries are hand cut with truffle salt. They served us bland shoe-string fries that obviously came from a supplier like Gordon Food Service (no truffle salt to be found). The manager eventually came back and told us they ran out of food for certain dishes and couldn't supply the rest of our meals. They asked those people to reorder (after a third of the party received their meals). Mind you, during this whole time, the waitresses were still unable to fulfill drink orders and appease us while dealing with their incompetent kitchen. My wife and I, who have an infant at home, don't go out that often and were looking forward to a fun evening together. By the time two and a half hours had passed, and we hadn't received our food, and each only had received one drink, we had to go relieve our baby sitter. Don't let the owners responses on here fool you. There are other reviews with similar complaints from weeks and months past, and none of the problems have been addressed. It was an awful experience. This place does not deserve your patronage. Detroit deserves a better class of restaurants than this.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, but I don't go to a restaurant only for a good atmosphere. The menu is over priced for the quality of the food. I ordered their macaroni & cheese, and it was super bland, very watery, and not worth it. I had looked at the very small menu before hand, and had decided I would order pizza, but when we got there, their pizza machine was broken. Pizza makes up almost a third of their small menu. They also didn't have any oysters, or the hocks that were supposed to come with the mac&cheese. The service was slow. Very slow. We were a larger party, but the restaurant was mostly empty, and we had a reservation so they knew we were coming. It took almost 40 minutes just for our table to get their drink orders, we had to ask the server to order, it took a while for the food to come out, and after we were done eating it took forever to cash out. I don't understand why since my phone showed me she had ran my card, but she didn't come back with our paid bills for another 15-20 minutes. I will not return, and I would never recommend this location. They do have good drinks.

Had quite honestly the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had last night. I was there for a large group reservation that had been booked in advance. They were not equipped to handle it. Rude service, terrible food service, terrible drink service. On the plus side, the dining room was very spacious and pretty, bathrooms were clean, there was one server who seemed genuinely concerned and wanted to do what she could to make it a better experience, and the managers offered 50% off everyone’s meals the next time we come in (we won’t be coming back) but that’s about it for the pros. As for the cons: -it took anywhere from 30-60 minutes to get our first drinks. Some people’s drink orders were plain forgotten, and the servers were annoyed (including eyerooks and rude comments) when people asked -despite having everyone submit their orders by circling items on numbered pieces of paper, they were super confused and didn’t know who had what when food started slowly coming out. They also ran out of some of the menu items on the limited menu, so people had to re order. -I, along with about half the group, never got my food order (pasta) in the three hours we were there. Had to get carryout on the way home. -Those that did actually receive their food orders said what did come wasn’t good - lukewarm or cold, not much flavor. The truffle fries were regular shoestring fries out of a bag, and had no seasoning or anything. -while the servers started out relatively polite, by halfway through they were downright rude (eyerolls when people asked for drinks, sighs, sarcastic comments when dropping things off) and then they just plain disappeared. We only ordered two drinks during the three hours we were there, and I just didn’t bother trying to order more because I didn’t want to deal with the rudeness -they offered a free round of drinks as an apology for the bathrooms flooding and closing briefly, but no one ever came around to take the drinks orders All in all, I would recommend going anywhere else. Not worth the time and money when Detroit has a ton of great places to offer.
