A 24-Hour Staycation in Uptown Dallas With Great Food and History - Eater Dallas

"This local chain was started in 2012 and is all about creating chill environments to slow down and smell the coffee beans — there’s never loud music, loud people, or loud kitchens. Start zen with the golden milk latte made with spiced turmeric, vanilla, cinnamon, and hemp milk or the shroom latte with adaptogenic mushrooms, an organic spice blend, calendula flowers, and almond milk. Ascension makes its sandwiches with the option of a bagel from Starship, which makes arguably the best bagels in North Texas, so go for it with the sammie or toppings of your choice." - Courtney E. Google
The coffee, food and services are good. The vibe and atmosphere is excellent. Great spot in downtown Dallas to hang out, meet up and have a good time Also, for NBA history buffs, this is the location of where the unpopular Luka trade was worked out

Google
I was in the area and decided to try this place. I went on a Saturday around noon. It wasn't packed at all. Nice atmosphere. The servers were really friendly. Great place to work, read, chill with friends. I ordered the Migas and it was delicious. Portions aren’t that big but worth it. I had the best hot caramel latte. Great spot

Carolina Lopez

Google
Great place to meet friends and catch up. Saw a lot of people there to study or do homework and it seemed like a good place to do so. Their lattes were great and would love to go back just to try more of them. Their food were a good size and fulfilling.

Google
I had the Latin chicken and grains bowl and Villa Esperanza coffee. The service is amazing and fast! I absolutely loved it!

Google
Stopped by here on my way to work. Pretty fast service. The coffee was good, but a little watered down. I would definitely come back and give it another try for the full five stars

Being familiar with other locations in town, this was a little disappointing. The food Mediterranean salad bowl was excellent. The server was pleasant. On the critical side, I was directed to sit down instead of ordering at the bar (I guess this is policy if you're staying). But it took over 5 minutes for a server to appear, and she would disappear for 10 minutes at a time. The coffee was pretty mediocre compared to other Ascension locations. At 40 minutes before closing time, they dumped their drip coffee even though there were customers clearly still drinking drip. They made me an americano instead, but charged me $5 for it. Also, I don't appreciate it when I don't receive an itemized receipt and I'm expected to just pay up and choose the tip amount with my server staring at me. For a $12 meal and two cups of coffee, the amount I was shown was $27?

Google
Coffee was out of this world. If you love coffee, you must visit this place. Here, they don't just drop off your coffee and leave you wondering what the story behind it is. With your coffee, they leave a little card that would statisy one's curiosity about your coffee selection.

Google
It can be a bit busy, but the service is fast and efficient with a wide range of mini options. There’s also indoor and outdoor seating and is located right next to the Crescent hotel and all the businesses surrounding a great place to start your business day in Dallas or to meet a client.

Yelp
Coffee got me buzzing! Great place to have super-secret trade discussions. I spilled my coffee during the negotiations, but staff was amazing in heloing me cleanup the mess. I highly recommend the croissants and lattes. Thanks for the hospitality, our team is now set for the next decade.

Yelp
Ordered 2/15/25 for breakfast. First - check out the embarrassingly tiny amount of cream cheese they feel is appropriate for a "bagel with cream cheese". This degree of company skimping/cost cutting is so painfully obvious and kind of offensive to serve to paying customers. The bagel itself was really rubbery, I'm genuinely worried I was given a "bagel with cream cheese" that had been sitting out and assembled for 1-2 days. Which begs the question - what is going on in that kitchen. Is it even safe. I also had the brunch burger - I wish this wasn't the case, but the patty tasted like paper. So I guess they're skimping on spices too. The whole order was really unacceptable. Restaurants are not entitled to our patronage; this is a direct transactional pay for product set up, and Ascension coffee is not holding up their end of the bargain. Spend your money elsewhere.

Yelp
We visited Ascension both days this weekend. We enjoyed a walk over from our friend's place for coffee on our way to breakfast one day and came back and stayed to enjoy our coffee before meeting friends for brunch. The inside is a nicely decorated, bustling coffee bar. If you want your order to go, they take you at the counter. If you dine in, you close your seat and they quickly find you. Our server was attentive and helpful with questions and modifications. I had a lavender latte the first day and salted caramel cream cold brew the second day. The lavender latte was perfectly balanced. I think I screwed up my salted caramel because I had to have almond milk. I'll know for future visits. The cruffin is a definite 10/10 me. Perfectly flaky and the espresso cream was out of this world. We also ordered a coffee cake and it was darn good, too.

Yelp
Love the coffee, atmosphere, and food! Great place to stop for brunch and you dont even need a reservation. It is seat yourself indoor or outdoor and there are plenty of seats available. Parking is validated for 2 hours I believe and is located just underneath.

Yelp
Delicious pumpkin spice Latte and aussie sandwich!! Always on my regular go to list for breakfast and brunch!

Aryelle S.

Yelp
Good coffee, just wish they didn't skimp out on the food. I've ordered the steak sandwich which had one little piece of meat on it and also the Cali burrito that had little to no chorizos

Koya C.

Yelp
Portion sizes are very small, their matcha latte I will say is amazing! Recently got a cinnamon roll with a long string of hair in it, just wanted the company to know to be aware about the small things like this.

Yelp
This place is one of my favorites!! This location is really nice because you get to sit in between the large hotel and it really makes you feel like you are in the city. This is perfect for a casual coffee, brunch, or just working from home. Overall I think the food is good. I have had a few drinks here that I wouldn't get again but the actual food is delicious. I highly recommend the poblano pepper soup and the strawberry matcha. The biscuits are also worth it but this location doesn't usually have them anymore. They also have a coffee flight that changes every season which I feel like is a fun thing to try!

Yelp
fast friendly service. LOUD loud. literally had to yell across the table. Guy next to me was not only loud, he talked nonstop. Must've been a salesman. ham and cheese sandwich. Missing the cheese, too much raspberry jam. Mediocre fries. Hubs enjoyed the Caesar chicken salad. Huge portion, took half home. Would not revisit this location, but might try the other one in the design district.

Yelp
The food and coffee are pretty good, but the tables and seats are constantly dirty. I can't tell you how many times a server has placed menus on a filthy table right in front of us. When you point out the dirty table, the servers seem surprised that someone would say something. It worries me that the other parts of the restaurant (the kitchen?) might be dirty too. This seems to be a management issue. Please train/remind staff to clean tables.

Yelp
Our favorite brunch place to this day even after so many new restaurants have opened up over the years. The food is always good and service is great and quick. Their coffee is amazing and we always buy a bag of beans before we leave. I usually get the hash, or the bowls, and croissants. The restaurant is beautiful and a plus that it's at Crescent court so we could just walk around the area and the crescent hotel before or after. They also validate parking which is a plus.

Destin L.

Yelp
Ordered Uber eats and received a horchata latte that seemed like they didn't even steam the milk. No foam at all. The ham and cheese sandwich was oily and the side salad was ONLY lettuce with ONE half of a cherry tomato. For real?!
google avatar

Ashleigh L.

Yelp
Great food and coffee options. The patio was lovely and not in the direct sun. I rested a lavender latte and that was a delightful change to a normal latte. I also had the avocado toast which was a very good take on a classic dish. I would definitely come back. Parking is challenging. There is valet but also a parking garage in the back that is free (I wasn't aware of this).

Yelp
I came here with my partner as a little coffee date before going on a walk. We got the Christmas flight and it was incredible. Such a fun take on coffee. The staff was so incredibly nice and the environment inside the shop is very chill. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
This was not the located I wanted to visit I wanted to go to the church location but other than that it was a nice little spot and I enjoyed it. It took forever to get my order placed since I was told to find a seat and they would get the order in. But my waitress was too busy talking to her friend. Coffee was good but I won't go back.

Yelp
Good coffee. Meh Sunday brunch food. The interior is beautiful and located in a building that looks like a hotel. I wouldn't come here for studying or working unless its during a dead time when no one else is awake yet. I got an Australian breakfast sandwich. It was decent, but I wouldn't come here for food again. If Ascension was exclusively a coffee shop, then I would come just for the coffee. Most customers are sitting outside during brunch. Our party got sat indoors in a quiet corner in the company of a lone person doing work. I prefer quiet corners, but Service like filling the water jug was sparse in the corner. Most of the wait staff were with the customers sitting outside.

Yelp
I loved this little spot. I stayed close to here while on vacation and I ended up stopping by more than once! The first time I came here I a croissant sandwich which was delicious. The second time I came I got the Turkey sandwich which was kind of dry in my opinion but it wasn't bad. I got the horchata latte here and that is sooo good. Definitely worth it.

Lexus K.

Yelp
Great service and coffee, however, on multiple occasions of ordering togo I have had terrible portions. I ordered the Chicken Manchega with a caesar salad after being told it was the best salad .. Not sure what could be the best part of this

Yelp
For some reason my review was taken down, but I was mostly giving praise except for the service, in which I felt overlooked. I also stated that this appeared to be more of a brunch place than a sit down and do work space. Other than that, the food and drink selection was great and had something on the menu for everyone. In fact, love it for a brunch place because the prices were reasonable and the atmosphere gives off higher end, which makes it feel special while also not breaking the bank. Espresso was flavorful and somewhat on the fruity/sweet side. Tried their shroom latte too and didn't taste like coffee, so if you aren't into coffee, I'd highly recommend, reminded me a bit of horchata in some ways.

Yelp
Picked up lunch on the go while I was headed to a business meeting and it did not disappoint. I had the Turkey sandwich with fries. Was very impressed. The multigrain bread was so flavorful and filling. The sandwich contents were perfectly balanced from the Turkey to the avocado to the light spread and greens. Fries were fried perfect and well seasoned. I was staying at the Hotel Crescent so I returned for breakfast the next morning. I had the croissant breakfast sandwich and coffee and again was pleased. Service was friendly and nice and considering how busy they were for lunch, was relatively quick. The interior was perfect for the young business crowd with table settings good for conversations and even casual seating where tables weren't needed. I also liked the tall tables they had for waiting. I will be trying their sister location near my office in Coppell and hope it will be as refreshingly good.

Yelp
Best coffee hands down! Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures this time around but I'm hoping to try more and capture the food my next visit to Dallas. Only reason I'm removing one star is because I felt the service was a little weird. They could have been short staffed which is okay but it was just odd. As a first timer, I sat outside since I had my dog with me and I sat for maybe about 20 minutes. One of us went inside to go order since we figured that was the issue. When they asked if I wanted it to dine in or take it to go, I told them I was just sitting outside. They then proceeded to tell me I couldn't order inside and I had to wait until someone came outside to take my order. To me, this was very strange considering I just sat outside for 20 minutes and I thought it would be similar to how you can go into Starbucks, grab your coffee/food and then sit outside but I was incorrect. After I explained, they had someone outside and they quickly took my order which was nice. All in all, the food and coffee made up for the mishap. I'd return.

Yelp
Great coffee! Had the horchata latte and it was really delicious. The servers were prompt as well. Also got the curry chicken sandwich, which was surprisingly filling. I had to take it togo. They have underground parking, which is always a plus, especially during the summer. It is pretty pricey though.
google avatar

Yelp
I met with a couple of friends here and this place is absolutely beautiful! I don't drink coffee but the salted caramel mocha latte was delicious! It had the perfect sweetness to it and the ice didn't make the coffee taste weird when it melted. I ordered the turkey sandwich and tomato soup, the turkey sandwich tasted so fresh and the bacon in the sandwich added a smoky flavor which was to die for! The tomato soup was delicious and not too chunky. My partner got the brunch burger and he devoured it. Our waiter was amazing and went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of! Even though we were a party of 8 he took care of everything fast and gave a us a good laugh here and there. I will definitely be back in the future!

Yelp
Best place I ate in Dallas! My gf and I were looking for nice brunch spots with good coffee and this place nailed it right on the head. My coffee and partners matcha were both incredible. I got an omelette and my gf got protein brekky and both were ate up no crumbs left. I highly recommend the espresso cruffin as I hadn't had anything like it. The service we received was great! It did feel like a slightly upscale restaurant as we were served water out of a fancy red bottle immediately. But i was pleasantly surprised with our $60 bill that included two entrees, two pastries, two coffees, & a 22% tip

Yelp
A walkable, cozy, and bustling coffee shop inside Crescent Court with BOLD pour overs and appetizing dishes. This is my go-to place for productivity. Even though I usually prefer the silence of libraries when I study l, this place remains the exception. I love feeling an indescribable togetherness with the other people convening for business, pleasure, school, and/or just because. Because the coffeeshop is in the middle of uptown and inside the Crescent Court, it's a popular place. It has never been too popular that I've had to wait. Although cozy, the place has tons of seating for probably ~75ish people. There are several tables and seats outside for those who prefer that option. Go-to items are the curry chicken salad croissant with house salad (nothing too special about the salad so maybe get the frites?), migas plate, pour over, and hot matcha with classic syrup. I choose light options here since I know eating their delicious popular brunch burger, fried chicken sammie, or frites may induce a deep food coma. I can't wait to try these foods on an easy weekend though. Not for me is the chicken machego pane aria. I found the ratio of chicken to bread too little and the sandwich too cold. Ambiance/Concept: if you're eating in, then grab a seat and a server will come to you with menus. Service is pretty quick. If you're just stopping by for a drink, then you can order at the counter. If you forget all of this, then someone will direct you. I always walk here, but I think parking may be limited. Lastly there are few outlets, so make sure your laptop is charged! The ones I've found are usually by the booths and the small tables with 2 large arm chairs near the wall along the parking spots/valet. Happy to be supporting this local business. Can't wait until next time!
google avatar

Haley G.

Yelp
No to-go coffee is worth a 35-40 minute wait. I think the coffee itself tastes good, but disappointed with the wait time. Next time, let customers know if they will have to wait beyond a reasonable amount of time so that they can choose if they still want to order.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Excellent food, coffee and best of all the service. The parking is tough if you get there during peak lunch rush but once you enter it makes it all worth it. The coffee art was also a nice touch!
google avatar

Yelp
It's hard to imagine a better fit for this adorable location tucked in the Crescent than Ascension. \\ chocolate croissant - flaky, robust, so puffy that it's just a little too big for a bite - best toasted, of course - also takes away well for a separate time \\ horchata latte - one of their more unique latte options - spicy sweet cinnamon and bitter coffee come together well with a tantalizing aroma The outdoor seating area is well-kept and was a rare spot for some peace in the mess of Dallas. Another reviewer mentioned being reminded of Paris, and the curved silhouette of the building, the large wide road and parking area, and the trees lining the little boulevard make it easy to see why! For the first time since leaving California six years ago, I encountered moment of sweet stillness during that crisp spring morning sitting at a table outside Ascension, journaling beside their signature bright red pepper mill. If you want to skip the line, it's easy to order head on various delivery apps and pick up from the shelf by the door. Parking seems to be the most challenging part if you don't live nearby. They have a couple of 1 hour spots just out front, and there's also a self-park space around the building I believe.

Ben F.

Yelp
Amazing, my favorite brunch spot! Highly recommend the potatoes and eggs Benedict! The ambiance and coffee are unmatched as well! Finally, the service is top notch. Everyone is always soo nice! :)
google avatar

Lico J.

Yelp
Liked the coffee elements everywhere and the modern cozy vibes immediately when we walked in the coffee shop. Got a doki doki (Kyoto-style) cold brew and a regular latte. Really enjoyed the deeply and naturally sweet doki doki! Highly recommend it if you are a cold brew fan. The latte took a much longer time to make for some reason. It was a good latte but the milk was overpowering the coffee taste. Thick and smooth and tasted like a cup of warm oat milk.
google avatar

Rossandra J.

Yelp
I'm beyond annoyed with this place. The server NEVER comes to check on the table. Like there is no customer service. We only saw him to clean the table, give us menus and water & when he brought the food.
google avatar

Dani S.

Yelp
Decent place to get breakfast. We only did takeout. Portion sizes very small. Ordered takeout for seven people on GrubHub, the food was quite delicious, however the portion size was extremely small especially for Texas. It was a bit expensive for the price they charge. I'm not sure if GrubHub was to blame, but when it arrived everything was very messy and messed up in the box.

Yelp
"Each day is a miracle, a blessing unexplored and the more you immerse yourself in light, the less you will feel the darkness. There is more to life than nothingness. And cynicism. And nihilism. And selfishness. And glorious isolation. Be selfish with yourself, but live your life through your immortal acts, acts that engrain your legacy onto humanity. Transcend your fears and follow yourself into the void instead of letting yourself get eaten up by entropy and decay. Freedom is being yourself without permission. Be soft and leave a lasting impression on everybody you meet." ~Mohadesa Najumi - To transcend your fears and follow yourself into the void is to ascend. And today, I followed myself to Ascension Coffee - Crescent City, and the face of Ascension today, our existential server guide, was Nancy. She was clever and charming and delightful and skillfully guided use through the gastrointestinal goodies.. Ascension is fabulous, with a downtown hipster, bohemian, yet sophisticated vibe. You should follow your road to Ascension and transcend! - as·cen·sion /sen(t)SH()n/ noun the act of rising to an important position or a higher level. -

Yelp
Okay experience. Staff was friendly. It's a very busy and packed place so don't expect to get your food in 30 minutes, we waited for almost an hour on food. They ran out of cups unfortunately too. While the food was presentable and photo worthy, it is not delicious...

Kim D.

Yelp
The bowls were delicious as well as the freshly baked pastries. The lavender latte (seasonal item) was amazing!
google avatar

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
The baristas at Ascension Coffee makes great coffee drinks, including their Flat Whites and presently, their seasonal Peppermint Mochas. Love their serene patio setting. With my last few visits though, no time to ponder noted, pleasant is the service only when one orders immediately. CHEERS!
google avatar

Emilia L.

Yelp
Nice! located inside the crescent hotel, classy and cozy atmosphere. I have been there a couple of times and food was good both times. Kudos to the only server that was literally running the entire floor by himself! , good experience overall

Katherine C.

Yelp
Great brunch spot. I went with my girlfriends and had a great time here! I ordered the Aussie bacon + egg roll and it was honestly the best breakfast sandwich I've had in a while. My friends ordered the fried chicken sammie, simple brekky, and a pancake which were also amazing. The place can get a big busy around 12:30-1pm. Amazing service and really liked that they provide a glass bottle of water for each table. The vibe of the place is relaxing. Perfect for a chill brunch with the girls. The mocha and white mocha iced lattes were great!!!!!!!!

Yelp
A delicious breakfast at Ascension @Crescent court beautiful patio view. The barista Camden show off his art - delicious cappuccino and latte. Our server Nancy provided us with excellent service accompanied with a beautiful smile. She made our visit special - definitely recommend Ascension for couple's relaxed breakfast.

Yelp

Yelp
Cute spot for Sunday breakfast. Staff was super nice. Loved how crispy the bacon was and the shroom latte was a unique drink!

Yelp
Had a wonderful Saturday morning breakfast here! Chose to sit outside since it was a lovely cool, sunny fall morning. Our server (forgot her name) was so attentive and friendly! Drinks: We ordered the salted caramel mocha latte and the pumpkin spice latte. Both were really good and had enough flavor without being overly sweet. Food: We ordered the French toast brûlée (I believe it's seasonal) and the wagyu pastrami hash. The French toast brûlée was amazing! They brûlée the banana which is something I didn't know I needed in my life. The maple syrup was so thick and viscous (YUM). The Wagyu pastrami hash was also sooo good and flavorful! It seems as if it had a sofrito base giving it all that flavor! I do wish it had more meat but nonetheless, must try it!

Yelp
I have been buying Ascensions's coffee for the past 6 + years. While their coffee is hot and delicious, I've noticed their service has grown cold. My last drop into Dallas, I tried calling ahead, had my grandson (1yo) and was trying to get in and out, called ahead to the Crescent location and placed my order... then went in with tot in tow--added a tasty treat for him, and then stood their 15-20 minutes ... I noticed people who had been behind me getting their orders and I asked-- she said it would be a few more minutes.. then turned around and picked a cup up and said - oh-- this is yours. I had been standing there right next to the counter and no one offered it to me. Just put it in the counter and it was cold. I normally order a bag O'magic beans a week per subscription and loveeeee my Levitate. But this visit neither levitated or ascended and it was about the 3rd time I got such cold service. So, normally I give 5 stars but this was like 5 plus -7 because my coffee was as cold as the barista's behavior. I get it . You work in swanky Dallas, but I'm nice and friendly and don't deserve your rich people resting face. What do I hope for in a coffee shop? Just nice manners a little warm-- heck-- you live in Texas, so maybe hot service -- along with a steaming HOT cup of Joe or Joe's momma (Miss Cappuccino or his daddy- Mr Latte.) Especially when the coffee is expensive , the cup is expensive and they want a big tip for passing you your cup.. they've complained because people go to the outside a (In the past I heard them) and don't tip.. but nobody knows what to do half the time. It's a little chaotic in the front. Missing my magic as I speak.
google avatar

Anne L.

Yelp
The food and coffee are excellent. My only complaint is that there are not enough servers. I usually always end up waiting a long time for someone to come to my table to take my food/drink order.
google avatar

Sarah D.

Yelp
The coffee was really good, and so was the food. Came here after our first choice was closed and I'm so happy fate worked out the way it did. The service was great and I will definitely come back. Oh, also learned that all the famous people who come into stay across the street, so you might be able to see Megan Fox the next time you're here.

Brooklin B.

Yelp
The coffee and service in person was fast and friendly! But, I would be VERY cautious if you have food allergies. I am mildly allergic to tree nuts, and ordered a slice of coffee cake. I'll admit, I didn't ask about nut content since coffee cake doesn't typically have nuts, but unfortunately once I bit into it, I noticed little nut pieces. I called to ask if it contained nuts, and was told that they did not think so. I then replied, well it does.... I can see them... so can you tell me what nuts they are? I was put on hold, and then told it indeed does contain walnuts. It's a bit alarming that the staff didn't know that item contained nuts, so even if I had asked when I ordered, I may have been incorrectly reassured... be careful, luckily I'm not severely allergic, but this could be very dangerous for someone who is!

Yelp
Loved the fried chicken sandwich with avocado & fried egg, added pickles and Caesar side.
google avatar

Paige L.

Yelp
This specific location is connected to the Crescent Hotel, which makes the ambiance feel like hotel breakfast. I tried the seasonal flight of coffee, super fun and a great way to try a few if you're feeling indecisive. I ended up getting a large Low Tide to go after breakfast. I typically come here for the coffee and bakery item, but tried the breakfast meal this time around. The food was decent, everyone finished their plates but I felt like the sand which portions were small compared to the pricing and the hollandaise sauce was slightly too runny.

Yelp
I loved loved loved Doki Doki at Ascension- until today.. when I ordered Doki Doki and got a cold brew with some ice it was just sad disappointing coffee... I even asked where is the true nitrogen infused Doki Doki in a special design glass.. I got a weird look back as if I was talking alien language... too bad.. not much of a cool coffee place if one can't keep up with the caffeine drink of Ascension.. Won't come back for sure...sad...
