The Best Dallas Coffee Shops and Cafes With Free Wi-Fi to Work In | Eater Dallas

"Ascension is a coffee and wine bar, so if the studying gets a little stressful, switch to a glass of red or white. Comfy booths, free Wi-Fi, and cozy surroundings make all of Ascension’s locations excellent spots to get a lot of work done, although it can get chatty in some places, so bring headphones if you need them. It’s also a solid spot to order a full breakfast, with sandwiches, bagels, yogurts, bowls of hash, and lunch. Oh, and most locations have a dog-friendly patio in case Fido needs to come along as moral support." - Courtney E. Smith

The Best Dishes Eater Dallas Ate in December 2024 | Eater Dallas

"On a hungover morning at the White Rock location the ham-and-cheese melt (with added eggs) hit the right chords and was wonderful; the sliced pickles were notably "electric green." A side salad was chosen instead of fries, "so it was healthy," and caffeine was required to face the day." - Courtney E. Smith

The Best East Dallas Coffee Shops | Eater Dallas

"Located inside the historic White Rock Community Chapel following a substantial renovation, this East Dallas outpost—the company’s seventh in the DFW area—operates as much as a restaurant as a coffee shop, serving all-day breakfast and lunch daily. It features a large, flexible interior with abundant seating and an outdoor patio for working or socializing, a wine program, and a "Golden Hour" happy hour Wednesday through Saturday at 3 p.m. Coffee is roasted at the brand’s Dallas roastery and sourced from the top 3 percent of beans worldwide through direct relationships that prioritize women-led farms. Culinary leadership comes from an executive chef with experience at the Adolphus hotel, the in-store bagels are supplied by local Sclafani’s, and a standout beverage is the Doki Cold Fashioned, a coffee mocktail with bitters, a Luxardo cherry, and a twist of orange." - Rachel Pinn

Google
This restaurant is cute and popular with a long line to get in for Saturday brunch. It has a diner-type vibe but still slightly upscale and trendy. The service was good despite it being busy. I got the sunrise bowl with coconut yogurt and it was good but small portion for the price. The turmeric latte (regular) size was generous. They seem to have a very extensive drink and coffee menu. Not the most vegetarian or vegan-friendly place but they have some options. I suppose this is Texas, after all, so that’s to be expected.

Google
I had a really good experience. We went there for breakfast, and the atmosphere of the café was so calm and elegant. Although there was a lot of crowd at the time, the service was very fast. The food was also delicious. I can recommend this place to everyone!

Google
From the outside, Ascension Coffee – White Rock looks sleek, almost too polished, but stepping inside reveals a completely different experience: bright, spotless, and welcoming, with vaulted ceilings and modern communal seating that makes the space both stylish and functional. The Earl Grey Tea Loaf is moist with a subtle glaze — simple, elegant, and well-balanced with the tea’s fragrance. The Apple Galette is flaky and golden, apples holding their texture in a rustic but refined presentation. The Chocolate Croissant shows careful lamination, crisp layers, and a restrained chocolate filling that leans sophisticated rather than overly sweet. Drinks hold the same standard: the latte is smooth and balanced with artful milk texture, while the iced matcha latte is bright, clean, and free from bitterness. Beyond food and drinks, details stand out — chilled bottled water from the fridge offered as courtesy, staff who prepare drinks with care, and a space that feels safe for casual dates, versatile for laptop work, and comfortable enough for family or playdate visits. Despite its polished design, prices remain reasonable, making Ascension feel accessible without losing its sophistication. The overall impression is of a café that values detail and presentation, where both atmosphere and quality exceed what you expect from the outside.

Google
Ascension is one of my go-to brunch spots in Dallas — relaxed, stylish, and consistently delicious. Their migas are absolutely packed with flavor — cheesy, spicy, and perfectly satisfying without feeling too heavy. And if you’re into brunch cocktails, their espresso martinis are hands down my favorite in the city — smooth, bold, and just the right amount of sweetness to kick off the weekend. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or lingering with friends, Ascension nails that perfect brunch vibe every time.

Google
Ascension has become a go-to coffee spot for me as of late. the staff is really wonderful and always friendly, especially Mal and Luu! the coffee is honestly some of the best in town in my humble opinion, and they always have a rotation of seasonal drinks, from the ubiquitous PSL to a Johnny Cake Latte that straight up tastes like popcorn in a slightly-confusing-yet-surprisingly-delicious way (i haven't had most of the winter drinks yet, it's still 80 degrees in November so it feels wrong for me to drink anything with "peppermint" in the name. that's a me problem obviously). i've been obsessed with their "Riverside Punch" cold brew mocktail lately, and if you're feeling whimsical or indecisive they offer a seasonal latte flight, ooh la la (not to mention the espresso martini flight, if you're so inclined). they also make fabulous pour-overs with a good variety of rotating roasts. the coffee is also a couple bucks cheaper than Cultivar down the street, for pretty much the same quality. the food is just okay, unfortunately. i like their sandwiches but a lot of the food seems just kinda Sysco-y and lame, and i've gotten cold hash browns on multiple occasions. sorry, but it's not really what i'm coming in for. nonetheless, it's a great spot with great people and a lovely atmosphere (and patio!) to chill out, enjoy some coffee, and read a book or meet a friend.

Carla C.

Google
Food was great the only thing is that the horchata coffee didn’t taste like horchata unfortunately. The coffee flight was not my favorite thing on the menu whatsoever but the matcha is definitely yummy. I got the burger and it was so good! The hostess sat us 3 in a smallllllll table which was not ideal lol but thankfully our server pushed another table once it was free.

Google
Wonderful place full of great food and atmosphere. I loved the style and the tasty food! Thank you guys for the hospitality

Vanessa M.

Google
This was my first time here and it’s definitely overhyped, they had poor service, and the chai I had was bland. The barista gave me my drink as seen in the picture with it spilled all over and had zero customer service skills. I wouldn’t come back.

Hillary G.

Yelp
I have returned multiple times to Ascension. Each time I had reserved ahead of time so I wouldn't haven't to worry about waiting (honestly the best option ever!) They were able to get me in as soon as I got there every time! Honestly great services AND GREAT FOOD!
google avatar

Chante N.

Yelp
no complaints. excellent service and great food! this is a great place to grab lunch, coffee, or brunch. there are so many things from ascension that i love: thee pancakes horchata latte the brunch burrito the falafel gyro the fries the cinnamon roll i know all of that sounds very indulgent, but ive been several times. to ensure quality control was up to par for the community there is indoor and outdoor seating. they also have a bar, which is very cute if you decide after trekking around white rock lake that you + friend would like a mimosa or espresso martini definitely check this location out, i am very partial to this location!
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Meh Trendy. Service slow. Food was whatever. Not that impressed. I was late as I'm from the scary, boring city of Fort Worth. When I got there, my party was in a corner so service wasn't acknowledged. I was not impressed overall and I'd go on but this post is so boring it's equal to Ascension.
google avatar

Emma W.

Yelp
Food was fabulous and the interior is very hip! We went around 10am on a Sunday and did not have a very long wait. The outside is gorgeous as well. Would definitely recommend if in the area.

Joseph K.

Yelp
everything on the inside was kinda Bad the outside is okay Coffee tastes funny but service was okay if you wanna go here Really? Okay

Yelp
Blueberry Pancakes, Aussie Sandwich I love this place! Can't believe it's taken me so long to try it given how many of them are scattered around DFW. Interior is bright and happy, we bad a reservation for our group of 8 on the weekend. Lots of parking around, this one is right next to an apartment complex. The Blueberry pancakes were ginormous and so fluffy and wonderful and chock full of fresh sweet blueberries. The aussie sandwich was perfectly simple and delightful, love the runny Yolk of the egg and the great sauce they used in this sandwich!

kimberly r.

Yelp
The tea was delicious but sad about lunch. Told the waitress, "I'm looking for no pork and protein heavy meal" and asked for a recommendation. She suggested a dish. I order it cause I'm working and not paying attention. It comes out with meat and I'm like is this pork or beef? It's pork. The rest of the plate was well made food but can't help but be disappointed when I came in for protein specifically and shared my preferences and restrictions.

Yelp
Love love love the ambiance here! Ascension resides in the restored old White Rock community chapel with a huge vaulted ceiling and warm geometric chandeliers. The outdoor patio has a fire pit and fireplace for those cool evenings. I'm been here a few times for coffee and cocktails. I still haven't tried the food but the brunch menu looks delicious. They have a golden happy hour with $5 cocktails. The espresso martini and frozen Vietnamese iced coffee were both okay but neither had the intense coffee flavor I was craving. They tasted more like cold brew in strength. The gin and lemon cocktail was excellent though. Hot coffee drinks are great here as you would expect and they have lots of interesting spins on the classics.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick lunch while at a conference. We have truck so parking was kind of difficult but otherwise, the food was good. I had the Mediterranean Bowl and enjoyed the meal.
google avatar

Mari A.

Yelp
We had a Caesar salad and a chicken sandwich. The food was good, and the portion size was bigger than I expected. We also tried some drinks, and the Paloma was a good choice. The restaurant was clean and welcoming, and the staff was great.
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
First time here, place is very hipster and open. The coffee is pretty fresh and delicious, but be ready to pay $1 for cream. The mimosas are pretty good too. The waiter split our order into two plates instead of just bringing an extra plate, that's what I call attention to detail! The only bad thing here are the flies...we were fighting them off at every bite! Netting or fly traps are needed because you can't eat in peace. I was scared I would eat one by mistake because they were very aggressive!
google avatar

Chastity W.

Yelp
My review is based only off scenery, service, and coffee. I didn't have any food. You come in and seat yourself. The waiter was very professional and attentive. Very nice and comfortable setting. Good for a date. I had the Horchata latte and it was fixed perfectly didn't need any additional help. I loved it
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
I was so excited because the other reviews are so good. We did't have that experience. Cute interior. I think we had high expectations, then were let down. Service was very slow, wrong order came out, manager had to come correct our issues. Ordered GF, that's not what was brought out. Coffee was great.
google avatar

Debbie H.

Yelp
We enjoyed our brunch at Ascension Coffee, and we were so glad we tried it! Arrive early and visit when you have time. Parking was challenging, as you would expect. The food was really good. We ordered a chocolate croissant, a cortado, an iced mocha, pancakes and biscuits and gravy. The cortado was the best I've ever had - I'd come back just for that! Everything was very good - the ratio was off a little on the biscuits and gravy for us (too little gravy), we would have asked for more, but didn't want to wait. The restaurant was beautifully decorated inside and out with a relaxed atmosphere, which made the wait enjoyable.

Yelp
Went here for brunch! Tried hibiscus marg & blood orange spritz (mocktail) Cocktails were super cute. Chill atmosphere
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
This place absolutely REVIVED ME. 20 minute wait without a reservation on a Sunday was amazing. Staff was super friendly/chill. Food was absolutely delicious. The biscuits are a MUST. So dense and buttery. Need to get those again asap. Espresso was so smooth. LOVED the coffee flight as a sober person. We sat on the patio and it was so quaint and relaxing. Will be back.

Yelp
I came in around 1pm on a Tuesday and it was pretty busy! I love the way the new location looks. Super trendy and inviting. I ordered at the counter and sat at some of the bar stools to wait for my to go order. I got the brekkie power bowl. It was super yummy! The sauce was really good on it and the portion size was just right! I will definitely be ordering again.
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
1st place we went to when we arrive in Dallas Tx! The food was amazing, a little pricy - but it's to be expected in this area. I recommend sitting inside if you can. The wind was bad that day, so there were some leafs, branches, and some bugs in my mimosa & food. The service was quick & friendly! If I ever go to Dallas again, I will be going here again.

Yelp
Service at this location is below standard. I walked in with only two other people dining in. Larger server greeted me with a smile and allowed me to choose my seat. I was working so I chose a 4top. The other Hispanic, black hair, server came over and asked if anyone else is joining soon. I said no and he asked me if I wanted to move to a 2top. I said no I'm fine here and he chuckled and said ok but if we get busy we will ask you to move. I understood and said ok. A friend ended up joining me. After placing my order I asked about the portion sizes and he said I'd be fine, it's plenty of food. I bit my tongue and held back for the second time now. My friend and I left an hr later. The place ended up being busy but not full. The server was on his phone by the bar when he wasn't looking after his two tables. Improve by firing the server with poor people skills.
google avatar

Örłåñdø R.

Yelp
Wow! Finally a brunch place worth reviewing. Everything was extraordinary. From the service, to the food, to the aesthetics! Our server was so sweet and gave great recommendations. We got the brekky power bowl and Mediterranean bowl and they were 10/10. Also got the horchata latte and it was delicious, will definitely get again.
google avatar

Yelp
Great addition to the property and East Dallas! Visited when they first opened and it was busy all day long. I was surprised by how small it was as far as seating goes but it's definitely a smaller location than other locations I've visited. Ordered iced matcha tea lattes which were good. The President of Ascension was great to talk to. I look forward to being able wfh from the coffee shop.
google avatar

Marlon C.

Yelp
So this place has a great atmosphere and the servers have great attitudes, making the experience even better. The food came Out fast and hot. The pancakes were HUGE and the chicken and waffles were good. The chicken didn't have a batter but was air fried and seasoned very well. Definitely worth going & going back soon

Lesly A.

Yelp
First impression upon arrival was that the parking was confusing. There was a lack of professionalism amongst the employees all around. There was 2 employees standing outside both on their phones, one with AirPods in. We thought ok, maybe they're on break, but right in front of the front door though?? Moving on, it only got worse after being barely greeted. We had to greet them first, and although we said party of 2, they told us it would be a 15 minute wait for a party of 4. We proceeded to correct them, telling them it was only 2. We waited 10 minutes which is fair. After being sat down, we waited a good 10 minutes just to be acknowledged by our server. It then took 15 minutes to get our drinks (mocha latte 2/10 and the horchata latte 2/10) neither one tasted like they should have. The food was actually pretty good! I got the smoked turkey club (8/10 ) and my friend got the Migas (7/10) taste wise... 0/10 overall though because at the very end when the left overs were being placed in the to go box, a short dark brown or black hair was found in her food. She was very upset as she was going to eat the rest later. She didn't even bother to tell the server, as he was only seen 3 times throughout our entire stay there. Another server is the one who attended us, and got my friend the to go box in the first place. Nobody ever came to check up on us, OR the table next to us. They too had to flag down another server to place their drink order. Overall service really was 2/10. The place was at least tidy and was aesthetically pleasing. It is unfortunate that I will not be returning, as it was a place. I've been wanting to try for a very long time. I was highly disappointed.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere. The inside was reserved when we arrived, but we were still seated right away on a Saturday morning. The patio is very spacious with trees and canopies keeping it shaded. Our breakfast was so fresh and the options made my dish perfect. The coffee was really good even in the hot weather. As a life long dallsite I'm so happy have finally stumbled upon such a gem.
google avatar

Kelley H.

Yelp
So cute ! It's an old church that renovated into a coffee shop and brunch place. The food is yummy, the coffee is as well! The staff is really friendly and the service is speedy! Good amount of space indoors and outdoors!
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Ascension at White Rock used to be a church and still has some of the vibe and decor of the church. They are part coffee shop also offering brunch food options. They take great care of their menu and offer fresh drinks and foods. A very unique menu that offers items I haven't had anywhere else. I got their golden milk latte which had hemp milk, tumeric, and vanilla. The tumeric offers a very unique and different flavor which I really enjoyed. I had never had a latte like the golden milk one. Also the food is fantastic we got a bagel with the tomato basil spread. Their spread is all home made in house and really delicious. They have both indoor and outdoor seating options which is also nice. The baristas make fantastic drinks, Kevin made our drinks. They were absolutely delicious ask for Kevin when you go you will get fantastic drinks. Can't wait to go back to try more of their drinks and food.
google avatar

Yolanda S.

Yelp
It is super cute, inside & out. We met friends for brunch. We were seated immediately & our order was taken promptly. Items we ordered: Lavender Latte [So Yum!], Asian Noodle Bowl [delicious!], Ham + Cheese Melt [delicious!], Simply Brekky [Yum!] & the Latin Chicken + Grain Bowl [delicious!]. All must orders.
google avatar

Melanie T.

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience at Ascension Coffee - White Rock. I had the Latin bowl and my husband had the brunch burger. We both enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere. We will be returning!
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
My first experience years ago wasn't my favorite. I want into having a waiter bring me my coffee, so i never went back. I went back with the expectation and it was better. I got the horchata latte, which wasn't my favorite, but it was fine. I got to do a lot if work and have a delicious drink! I went to the White Rock Lake location which was bigger than the Design District location which i liked 1000%more. The staff was friendly, and the location was very clean. A much better experience than in the past

Alison F.

Yelp
Love the vibe at this local cafe! One of my favorite things was the bruschetta. The food can be a little hit or miss, but never below "average", and sometimes "fantastic". Limited parking, so be warned.
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
I have not been here for breakfast/brunch yet, but would like to! A group of my friends met here in a weeknight and sat in the outdoor seating area. Good atmosphere for both inside/outside dining!
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
I have been here two times now and a common theme I seem to experience: poor service. Today my grandpa and I visited and took a seat outside and waited for be served. Unsure if there would be table service or if this was order-at-the-counter type of place, I got up to check. The first server I encountered assured me he would take care of us, from which point I sat back down to wait. Several mintues pass, the same server I talked to walks by us a few more times looking me in the eye, and still no service. At this point two other people sit down right next to us. Within 5 minutes the SAME server is now serving them before us. After seeing this, and experiencing poor service at this location my first time around, my grandpa and I got up and left. I understand being busy and tending to multiple tables at a time, and the weather on this particular day was nice and many people were sitting outside. But to look someone in the eyes, tell them you can serve them, proceed to walk by several times, further looking them in the eye, only to serve people directly next to them is baffling to me. I am sure there are a lot of postives to this place, as the reviews clearly show. The ambiance and outdoor area is really great. The costumer service in my two times visiting, however, is subpar and I would much rather spend my money elsewhere to receive quality costumer service.

Ashley B.

Yelp
I've been holding off on leaving a low rating hoping that the issues I've had with Ascension White Rock were just a fluke. Not giving 1 star because I love their coffee and food - the problem is that more than half the time I go here, I don't get the coffee and food that I order. I was ordering multiple times a week when I first moved to the area, getting the same thing almost every time. My order was incorrect multiple times, so I pretty much stopped going. Now today, I really missed my normal breakfast from Ascension, and decided to try again. Order, pick up, check the bag - all looks to be good. Get home and taste the food, and again... it is the wrong item. I can't sit in the parking lot tasting mine and my husband's order to ensure it's correct every time I get Ascension, so unfortunately I just won't be going back.
google avatar

Diana E.

Yelp
Our food was so delicious and healthy. We ate outside and the weather was perfect. I would get the brekkie power bowl again. The eggs and sweet potatoes were my favorite. Our waiter was a sweetie.

M. M.

Yelp
I took my friend for a brunch to Ascension today. There was a wait. We were seated and the waiter comes to the table to announce that any drinks would take 20-30 minutes? I asked, "Any, including tea?" He said, "Yes" In the time we discussed getting a cup of tea, he or I could have walked over to the drink area and poured a cup of hot water and put a tea bag in it. What is wrong with the management? Why are they not teaching the staff to take care of customers? The waiter could have managed a cuppa tea for me. or a glass of wine. Neither of those items requires the barrista. When I left, I told the hostess that she should warn people that their drinks will take 20-30 minutes before their seated so folks don't have to leave if they don't want to eat w/o a drink. I was disappointed and won't be going back.
google avatar

Raquel M.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Really love the Cesar salad, and the chicken manchego sandwich. The lemonade is wonderful!! The parking here is not good...wish it was better
google avatar

Madigan M.

Yelp
A great new coffee shop in the White Rock Lake area. The space is very cheerful, with high ceilings. The tables feel like a sit-down restaurant. While there are a few breakfast options, this place really has a wide array of coffee choices with many different flavored lattes and teas. Friendly service and I lucked out with a great parking spot - I'm sure this place will fill up once the word gets out.
google avatar

Tee J.

Yelp
I went to the one in Addison not realizing that it is a smaller version of the other locations. That was my fault. I wasn't able to get a large breakfast like I expected but the place was very quaint. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but if you are, I'm sure you would love it. I had a breakfast sandwich and some orange juice. I'll check out to one in Coppell next time.
google avatar

Tiara A.

Yelp
This is a great brunch spot! I suggest making reservations bc the location is small but I love the price point of the food items, plenty of variety, the location is beautiful. This is a great place for post church brunch, Sunday fun day, coffee dates etc. also the patio is quite large! Will be a great spot in the spring! Also, the service was fantastic. Our server made recommendations and was so attentive to our needs.
google avatar

Talli H.

Yelp
Golden hour was fabulous... one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had! The staff were friendly and accommodating... cannot wait to go back for brunch!
google avatar

Tammy N.

Yelp
This place is a beauty. It's my first time at an Ascension and I'm still beating myself up that I haven't made a stop at their many locations throughout Dallas earlier. I'm sure you've heard butt his location was an old church that they were able to keep the same structures with high ceilings but turn it into Ascension. I went on an early morning before work and was just pleased that they had most of their coffee bean selection available in store too. I grabbed a bag for my husband and he opened it immediately and was a huge fan! I got the Pandan latte for myself and it was so good. The service was excellent. The cashier let me know that it does run a bit sweet ahead of time so I was able to reduce the amount of syrup. I can't wait to come back here as they have a full menu for brunch service. A wonderful addition to East Dallas to say the least.

Yelp
Came by as recommended in Yelp to try and we love our breakfast/brunch's. Came by on a Monday about 9:30. Place was full with some tables with customers working on their computers, we perched up on a side bar overlooking the patio. Looks like an amazing patio but was not open very cold !! I would say for food I would have given a 1 or 2 rating but the front of the house saved the day. Joel our waiter was so friendly and even in coming to let us know the 1st two items we tried to order ran out yesterday - so we tried again. He kept our coffee and tea full. Accession bold coffee was perfect. Jason the GM was also friendly and ready to please. Located in a 40 year old church the atmosphere was fun. It was shared With us the Owner has a ranch so true farm to table. 5 star for the Accommodating and Great service Food on the other hand was only good. We ordered a brunch burger rare with over easy egg - their first try came out well done and hard egg. Redo was so much better. Unfortunately by the time redo done we had filled up on fries. The burger was good sweet bun and large patty. It was a tower of flavor from the caramelized onion and melted cheese. I also ordered one pancake my sweet indulge in life. 1st try it was cold to touch and the 1st test is the butter melting. (Maybe warmer butter) Redo on pancake 2nd attempt came out hot but raw batter in the middle. I am sure if asked they would have taken off our bill.

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
Great breakfast and better coffee. Worth a stop if you need a (pretty) quick and delicious breakfast. Plus some GF bakery options. Always great service.

Yelp
I got the seasonal Sugar Cookie Latte and it was so yummy!! I love the vibe of this place, my parents and I definitely want to come back for breakfast and lunch! I also thought the service was really nice :)

Yelp
Location is awesome especially for those visiting the Arboretum. You can easily call ahead or order online for pick up. Great coffee and friendly customer service.

Yelp
Came here on vacation for brunch. It was busier than we expected for a Tuesday but we still experienced great service. When you arrive, there is a sign saying to seat yourself. There was not a lot of indoor seating available so we chose to sit outdoors. We ordered the chocolate croissant, banana muffin, migas, and brunch burger. The croissant was super flaky but soft on the inside, with a dark chocolate that was perfectly bitter to make it overall not too sweet! The banana muffin had a great banana flavor! It's topped with coarse sugar which gives it a great texture. The migas was delicious! I found the chipotle vinaigrette it came with too spicy but otherwise it was great! The brunch burger exceeded expectations! Amazing bacon (would recommend just getting a side of bacon!) and great pickles!! Overall, we would definitely come back if we're in the area again!!

Yelp
Couldn't get past the gate at front. It needs a more prominent sign and directions. WHERE exactly is the one on Garland Road located?

Yelp
Ascension lost 5 customers due to the fact that they charge for cream for you coffee and substituting mayo for aoli on a sandwich $1,.75 per no printed receipts. Food good server great policies suck
