LA’s Classic Seafood Destination Water Grill Expands to Las Vegas - Eater LA

"There’s a big new casual coffee and lunch spot now open out in Boyle Heights these days, called Asher Caffe. The 5,000 square foot property lands at 945 S. Boyle Ave., keeping daily hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oh, and the restaurant is apparently Kosher certified." - Farley Elliott

Textile Magnate Weaves a Kosher Bakery and Cafe Into Boyle Heights - Eater LA

"An industrial part of Boyle Heights is set to get a new bakery and cafe in early March. Asher Caffe comes from Asher Shalom, owner of Asher Fabric Concepts, a fabric and textile distributor located across the street from their showroom. A passion project for Asher, the eatery will be completely kosher. According to project manager Sergio L. Yang, the food will have a heavy European influence. The cafe wants to serve wine and beer, but are still waiting for approval. Yang cites the hold up thanks to Boyle Heights being very strict when dispensing ABC licenses. This area has few food options available, and Yang says the neighborhood has been receptive, 'We are pretty remote, and will be the only restaurant in this area. It is exciting to see our local neighbors be excited about our existence.' This news is a welcome one, especially in an era when cafes, gentrification, and Boyle Heights can be synonymous with butting heads. In a somewhat timely and unrelated note, Asher's company supplies fabrics for the U.S. Olympic team. Operating hours will be weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m." - Mona Holmes

Yelp
First time trying this spot. Came here for lunch with a Business client. I tried to research some before we went to see what lower sodium options they may have, to try to choose a healthier option if possible. The online menu looked very good. More in this later. When I arrived they have a private parking lot when a decent amount of slots, was able to get a parking spot easily. Coming in the place is wide open, like a cafeteria vibe. You walk up and order. They have nice small 2 person tables all around and a few larger ones, as well as long bench style seating. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was looking for their tenderluxe steak salad as well as "the works" sampler appetizer, but they had simplified their menu and those were no longer available from the online menu I was looking at, so I was bummed a bit. But I decided to change to the grilled chicken salad with tahini dressing and I added an hard boiled egg and extra chicken. I would say pretty healthy overall and still lower on the sodium with the tahini dressing. Along with a side of hummus and pita with grilled jalapeño. It was excellent, finished the salad completely and most of the hummus, took a little home for later. Ingredients were super fresh and clean, everything here is kosher. I enjoyed it very much. It seemed like a local place that people know each other and know the owner, which I found very nice. Give them a try and find a new gem. Enjoy!

Yelp
My family has it's roots in Boyle Heights going back over 100 years. I'm always looking for good eateries in the old neighborhood. The people here are friendly and attentive. The food is delicious, ingredients are fresh, and they're not opposed to letting you put your own twist on menu items (within reason). I inspect restaurants and food processing plants for a living ( 37 years) and from what I could see; the place is clean, organized, and welcoming. They took some time off, for a minute, but I'm so glad they're open again. Get over here and give them your money!! You won't be sorry!!

Yelp
This was my favorite spot of all restaurants period hands down! My family knows the owners and made a point to come here regularly even though we live in Agoura Hills it was part of our weekly routine. Sadly, they just revamped the menu and got rid or the tenderlux steak sandwich that caused us to make the drive... I still rated them a 5 star because I love this family but the new menu lost our business. The woman at the register suggested a burger- all kosher meat restaurants have burgers, fries and schnitzel. What you used to offer was different and innovative and worth the drive.
