"A meal at Asher’s Africana is worth it for the roti alone. This cash-only Gujarati canteen in Wembley makes wafer-thin flatbreads dripping with ghee that you could quite happily shovel, one after the other, with nothing else. But they’re even better as part of a thali. The platters come with a choice of warming curries that change not just by the day, but by the hour, and there’s an entire a la carte menu should you want to lean in for the long afternoon or evening." - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, jake missing
"Asher’s Africana opens at 1pm every day and often has a backlog of orders by quarter past. The cash-only Gujarati restaurant in Wembley has a social club feel to it, with family and friends eager to pile into the pared-back beige room for wafer-thin roti and comforting curries. The Gujarati special thali—with five ghee-laden roti, two curries (a meltingly good aubergine and potato number stands out), daal, achaar, rice, sweet yoghurt, and two delightful little packed and fragrant samosas—is a generous and nourishing meal for one. That said, the menu deserves multiple people around the table." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, daisy meager, sinead cranna
"No, they cannot deliver to your bed If you’re sitting down for a meal feeling worse for wear, then you want it to be in a restaurant that’s going to stroke you on the head either literally or metaphorically. Asher’s Africana is one of those places. The family-run Gujarati restaurant in Wembley has a constant hum of family and friends to it that’s comforting rather than overwhelming, and its vegetarian food works in the same way. Have a settling glass of warm chai, tear at some flatbreads covered in ghee, and scoop away at a series of warming curries." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna
"Plenty of tea is spilled between friends at Asher’s Africana but never the excellent chai. The humming, cash-only vegetarian Gujarati spot in Wembley has a warm, laid-back, canteen-ish feel to it that’s only heightened by groups of friends, old and young, trading stories over ludicrously thin rotis and crispy samosas. There are a few choices to make but going with a thali is a safe bet. The Gujarati special includes five ghee-smothered roti, a choice of two vegetable curries, samosas, lassi, and yoghurt. The curries change not just daily, but hourly, depending on the mood of the hectic kitchen. It’s worth having a chat if you’re after something on the spicier side, or something that’s straight nourishing." - jake missing
"Get to Asher’s Africana at 1pm and don’t be surprised if you find a few people outside waiting for the shutters to open. The humming, cash-only vegetarian Gujarati spot in Wembley has a warm, laid-back, canteen-ish feel to it that’s only heightened by groups of friends, old and young, with their eyes fixed on ludicrously thin rotis and ears open to whatever tea is being spilled. Never the excellent chai, incidentally. There are a few choices to make but going with a thali is a safe bet. The Gujarati special includes five ghee-smothered roti, a choice of two vegetable curries, samosas, lassi, and yoghurt. The bread is notably wonderful—thin, chewy, and a perfect vehicle for what curry you choose—and a tear with a scoop of soft, melting potato and aubergine curry makes for a perfect bite. The curries change not just daily, but hourly, depending on the mood of the hectic kitchen. It’s worth having a chat if you’re after something on the spicier side, or something that’s straight nourishing. Asher’s Africana is very good at both. " - Jake Missing
