We first tried some of their food at the Heritage Fire festival and we knew we had to go to the restaurant. The food was so so good! Everything we had tasted delicious! The Grilled Carolina Peaches are amazing, Petite Tender was fantastic. This place is a definite must try! We will be coming back.

This place was so fantastic. Had the filet with potatoes and grits. I seriously wanted to lick the plate. The food was so good. We decided since it was so good that we also needed to try dessert. Probably the creamiest cheesecake I've ever had. The mix of flavors in it was very different but very good. Service was great. Atmosphere was great. They could work on their bathroom a bit but otherwise everything was top notch! Can't wait to come back.

Definitely a must-visit if you're in Asheville! It was my first time at this place, and I was left speechless. The ambiance is truly out of this world — it’s the perfect balance of relaxation and elegance. My server, Colby, was awesome! His recommendation of the Grilled Bone Marrow was spot on, and it was absolutely delicious! I also tried the Curry Black Mussels, which were amazing as well. The service was 5 stars, and the entire staff was fantastic. I can't wait to go back and try more of the incredible food. Highly recommend this place!

The meal was superb, so much so we are coming back on our last night in town. Everything was beyond delicious, layered with flavors and textures. The foraged gnocchi was fantastic and we almost licked the hibiscus glaze off the plate. The mushrooms and mashed beets were amazing. Steak was cooked perfectly. Definitely some culinary artistry going on in that kitchen. Cocktails were fantastic as well. Good, chill vibe, solid cocktails. We’ll be back in two nights. Can’t wait!

Google
Sometimes, you just need a Proper meal. And tonight at Asheville Proper, I had exactly that. ✨ Bone marrow so rich it was butter all the way through—followed by a bourbon marrow shot for the full experience. 🥩 A 30-day aged steak cooked to absolute perfection, paired with a lineup of incredible sides. 🍰 And of course, dessert that didn’t disappoint—because every great meal deserves a sweet ending. If you’re in Asheville and craving a next-level dining experience, this is it. #AshevilleProper #ProperlyIndulgent #FoodieFinds #SteakLover

Out of all the places I have been to and reviewed, this place holds a piece of my heart! Super friendly people, out of the way helpful, and explanatory information! My meal was exquisite and I will return!

My wife and I had the chef’s tasting menu last night which exceeded our expectations! We had eight courses with spectacular local ingredients and showcased wonderful creativity. It felt like a trip from the sea to the mountains, while highlighting local Appalachian produce, hyper-local meats, and their signature open flame hardwood cooking style. We met the chef and I have to shine a light on Jason Sweeney’s creative and bold takes on local cuisine. Our server was prompt, knowledgeable, and provided us with a lovely evening. I highly recommend trying out Asheville Proper the next time you are in town.

We were just passing through, had such a wonderful dinner! We did the chefs tasting menu and it was so well worth it. Amanda B was our server and she was absolutely amazing explaining everything, no waiting! We sat outside, such a nice evening!

Yelp
Very cozy and modern restaurant with great menu and plenty of vegetarian options. Great service and nice atmosphere! Perfect for a date night

Yelp
Update in 2025. Special place. Love coming here duringy annual visit to Asheville. #1 - treat people so well. Thank you Emma for making me feel at home tonight. #2 - food is spectacular. Got the tasting menu. Inventive. Expected it to just be a play off the actual menu which would be good, but it wasn't. Chef went out of his way to present a special experience. #3 - the pairing with the tasting menu is worth it. This is an absolute gem in downtown Asheville. DO NOT miss out.

Yelp
Excellent dinner, filet mignon and a NY strip for my husband. Cocktails were great. Our server was friendly and attentive. Highly recommended

Yelp
We had lunch here on the 4th of July while wandering around in downtown Asheville. The inside is very posh & polished. The staff is professional and very attentive. The kitchen is open air style, so you can watch the chefs grill your food, but that also means the restaurant is a little warm during summer months. My duck tartine would probably have been better served as a sandwich; the toppings kept falling off the bread, the blackberries didn't add much to the flavor profile, neither did the arugula & pickled zucchini topping, although the duck did have notes of a legitimate NY style pastrami, even if the breast meat was overcooked. My wife had the eggplant parmaggiano sandwich, and to be perfectly honest it was the better option, considering price/value ratio. The house made potato chips have a depth of flavor with citrus/acidic touches, blended with black pepper & saltiness. Perplexing that the side of chips beat the main dish in terms of overall balance. My advice to the chef, puree the blackberries instead of serving them whole, and rethink why you added pesto to the base instead of a creamy aioli. Presentation wise, it's pretty, but functionally the combinations don't work.

Yelp
Had a great birthday meal here back in May. I should have cataloged my meal sooner, but, suffice to say, it was fantastic. The meat lovers of the group had bigger smiles, but everyone was happy.

Yelp
My husband and I were blown away by this spectacular restaurant. We went on a Monday night. It was chill and relaxed. Our server was helpful and made a fantastic sour cocktail since the bartender was out. We had the foraged gnocchi which was so beautiful and full of layers of flavor. The steak was cooked perfectly and we loved the sides, the mashed beets and foraged mushrooms. The mushrooms were subtle and revealed more flavors with each bite. Desserts were also fantastic. We sat near the kitchen and we were struck by how chill and relaxed they were given the exquisite food they prepared. We are coming back for our last night in town. It was that good!

Yelp
Went here for a business dinner on a Wednesday night. We were seated quickly. The restaurant was not very loud - great acoustics - so it enabled out party of 7 to be able to chat and communicate quite easily. Let me say this in all caps - THE SERVER WE HAD WAS ARGUABLE THE BEST SERVER I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. She was a mazing. Wish I could recall her name. (To the restaurant - we were there on 11/20/24 for a 630pm reservation. The server was probably mid to late 20's with brown/black hair - in help to identify her. She deserves a pat on the back) Unless we misunderstood the menu, we did not see any appetizers so we went straight to the main course. The whole table got steaks - ribeyes or filets. They were all cooked as ordered. I had the ribeye - 12 oz, so a bit on the small side but it was excellent. I added the mushrooms (dumped right on top) and the maple butter. Perfection. The rest of the crowd loved their steaks. For sides, we got the brussels sprouts, the grilled broccoli and the mashed potatoes. All very good. The broccoli so some of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend!! Will be back on a future visit to Asheville.

Yelp
I came here for my birthday dinner, and it did not disappoint! I got a cocktail that was good, but I can't remember the name of it. We also got the Parker house rolls. These were fine, but I might skip them if I were to go again. This place specializes in steak, and our waitress described each one to us, which was very helpful in determining what to order. I ended up getting the petite tender. It was nice and seared on the outside but tender on the inside. The mashed potatoes were very good as well. I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. It was great for a birthday celebration, and I would definitely go again!

Yelp
Asheville Proper is a great place for dinner. The True open FIRE grill speaks for itself. The Smell of Fire grilled steak "any Meats for that matter " is just delicious! The open kitchen concept with the grill master shining front and center of the grill and top notch staff just seals the deal for me. Is and will be one of my favorite dining experiences.

Yelp
Came in for a friends bday dinner on a Saturday evening at opening time of 5pm as we had a rather large party. Upon entry it made sense as it's really not a large setup inside. Good service, good varied menu and some cool offerings both locally sourced and somewhat unique/uncommon on the beef/steak side. For the money ($75), the 12oz dry aged prime ribeye was quite a deal and very good. The mixed mushroom side was fantastic but the asparagus was a bit lackluster in terms of the amount of thinner overcooked pieces. Good mixed drinks and desserts were also rather good. My wife was pleasantly surprised by the gluten free chocolate cake and overall they were very accommodating to food allergies. Would def go back and recommend.

Yelp
Came in during the night of the winter storm. Could tell the weather had affected staffing, but they did a good job. Our waiter was friendly and was working his tail off. The atmosphere was nice and cozy and was cool you could see the open fire cooking of the meats. The sides were good, but the steak was a little underwhelming. Little tougher than I would expect a dry aged steak to be. It may have been to it being off-season so will come back sometime just not soon.

Yelp
We came in on a Thursday night shortly after they opened. Started with a cocktail from their menu, rolls, and the grilled Romain salad. I was a little annoyed at paying $2 for a roll, but I must admit they were good and worth it based on size. The flaked salt on top really made a great flavor with the bread. I've never had a grilled salad so wasn't sure what to expect, but it was really good without being wilty from the grill. I got the gnocchi for my main. I wasn't sure how the egg was going to really work in it but it did. Every bite was rich and despite being small, it was filling. It was plated super nicely as well. My BF got the New York strip and we were a little underwhelmed at first because it was a somewhat small steak on a huge white plate with nothing else. But, it melted in your mouth and the flavor was really good. Side of mashed potatoes was also good. Inside was a bit cold even though this place is billed as fireside dining and I think there was a fire going. We wish we would've gotten sat up top in a cozy booth than in the middle at a table.

Yelp
First off the food was awesome. The menu had changed so the scallops weren't on the menu and that was disappointing. I did have the Thai Hot Pot which very good but beware it is very spicy. It does come with bread. My brother had the rib eye and the potatoes. He said the rib eye was fantastic. Everything is ala carte. Service was great. It is very loud so a conversation is hard to carry on and it is pretty dim inside. Otherwise it's a great place to try at least once. Just don't rely on the menu as things do change.

Yelp
I got a NY Strip steak - it was cooked well but lacked any flavor. Service was spotty to say the least (it wasn't a weekend and they were not as busy at they purported to be. Ambiance was nice, but I would not go back based on prices service

Yelp
Amazing steakhouse in downtown Asheville! First-timers for three of us last week as we celebrated a birthday. Loved seeing the open flames in the kitchen, truly a steakhouse!! Staff was friendly, our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the extensive wine list and also the dinner menu. Our table enjoyed the grilled calamari steak, chargrilled octopus, crispy confit potatoes, two steaks and a parker house roll with whipped tomato butter. We all raved about our meals!! I loved my steak, cooked to perfection. Dad kept talking about his delicious steak and the seasoning on the confit potatoes, fantastic!! Uncle Thom loves to see octopus on any menu because it can be a rare find. He thought the octopus was one of the best he's ever had, and he's eaten octopus in many different countries. The location is perfect, easy access to a parking garage and lots of people watching if you're seated outside. Interior is elegant, and the smell when you walk in the front door is mouth-watering! The perfect spot for a special birthday celebration!

Yelp
We had such a great time at Asheville Proper! The outdoor seating was perfect for hanging out with our pup. I started with the Citrus Drop, and wow--it was super light and refreshing, the perfect taste of summer! My husband enjoyed his Old Fashioned, which he said was spot on. I also tried the Lemon Thyme Spritz; it was nice, but definitely more subtle compared to the Citrus Drop. The Aviator was delicious-definitely recommend! For dinner, I went with the marrow and octopus, and they did not disappoint! My pup even got to enjoy the bone when we got home. My husband had the hanger steak and mushrooms, and he loved it too. Our server was awesome--really friendly and gave us great recommendations. Can't wait to come back for more!

Yelp
Great atmosphere but a little too niche menu offerings. I met some friends here a couple weekends ago for dinner and drinks around 7pm on a Saturday. It's a very inviting spot in downtown AVL and definitely has a great ambience/atmosphere. We were seated at a high top near the host stand. Our waitress was super friendly and personable. She took our orders and returned promptly for refills and to check in on us. I had the dead man's handle (blanco tequila, Aperol, lime, orgeat, Tajin) while my friends ordered a classic martini and old fashioned. Food wise, there wasn't too much standard fare (lots of octopus, bone marrow, more exotic things) other than steak (which I didn't feel like indulging in) so I actually ended up just getting a bread roll, which in all fairness, was pretty good. One of my friends ordered the tomato gnocchi, and the others shared the bone marrow, octopus, and steak tartare. I did have a couple bites of their dishes and everything was pretty good. I think I was just disappointed that I couldn't get anything a little less fancy, pricy, and just more ordinary! I would have gotten a salad and was craving caesar, but they didn't even have that. I think this menu changes frequently so I'd be willing to give it another shot, but I would definitely review the menu before committing.

Yelp
Asheville Proper (Asheville, NC), out did themselves tonight! Their seasonal plates are amazing and also their steaks. Their food is really good and the quality of their steaks as well. Follow Emma J. recommendations regarding drinks, starters, main courses and deserts; and you will be experiencing an explosion of flavors. My wife & I have been extremely busy throughout these past months and we decided to do a mini-escape from Atlanta to Asheville. Tonight, Asheville Proper restaurant was what we need after 3 1/2 drive. We love the food, and felt at home with the atmosphere but, what really took us back was their service. Their service, their people is what it makes this rest. and experience an outstanding gastronomical experience! The service was beyond AMAZING, super attentive, quick and efficient. The whole staff make sure your experience is an amazing one! For sure, if you are having a sit down dinner; definitely request Emma J.. I'.m not sure how long she has been in the service industry but, I can tell she has been taking care people very well for some time. Her service is superb and her personality makes you feel like you know her from many years ago. Tonight, she was the great server/hosted any one can ask. She made us feel super special and relax. Emma J. make us feel like we were the one two people in the restaurant. She is simply the best Her the dedication, service, and her ownership of to her craft to provide us the best dinning experience she could make us feel especial. Emma J. was simply Amazing! Thank you Emma for your professionalism, dedication, and for a perfect night! Respectfully, Javier Perez

Yelp
Been a few times & always a good meal! Try the steak sauce it's made in house & they sell bottles of it, yes I got one to go! Steaks are amazing & the sides don't disappoint. Ask for specials they have steaks aging available when ready. I got a tomahawk special one night it was a huge steak I

Yelp
First off this is not a small plate or Tapas restaurant. It's an amazing steak restaurant. 2nd time here and already a Duke of Yelp here. Lowered 1 star from last month. Steak $50 was Gristly and tough this time. Waitress was not attentive or friendly. Not sure what happened, maybe just a bad day. Doubt I will be back. Plenty of restaurants in town that would love customers.

Yelp
Went to Asheville Proper on a girls trip to celebrate my birthday. When we sat down there was a wonderful birthday card on the table signed by the staff. Our waitress was funny and friendly. We ordered the gnocchi and beef tartare for the table. Both were delicious apps. I personally count have eaten them for a meal, as they were the perfect portion. I had the mahi mahi and others had a steak. The mahi mahi was very over salted, to the point that I couldn't eat the top part and of it. We also split potatoes and corn fritters which were flavorful. The corn fritters had an applesauce like sauce on it, which was quite interesting but also made it a standout of the meal.
google avatar

Marcia C.

Yelp
Got to celebrate my birthday here and loved everything! Decided to order up every appetizer for our meal instead of entrees and they were all delicious. Unique as well, from the emu to the octopus and bone marrow. Beautiful decor. Upscale but not stuffy. Great service. Highly recommend.

Will K.

Yelp
I hope the restaurant and everyone who works there is safe right now from the storm! Everyone was super nice. We loved this spot! The grilling method was delicious over the coals and everything. The bone marrow was AMAZING! The wagyu was quite tasty, as well, but I will make the trip back just for the bone marrow, or maybe two!

Yelp
Oh my, this was exactly what we were looking for! Made a reso through Open Table and wanted to make it a bit later. Called the restaurant and it was an easy fix! We got there a few minutes before our reservation, so we just had to wait a sec for our table to be ready. When we were seated, we were given a birthday card, since both of us were celebrating! What a special touch. Emily, our server, was incredible. She was knowledgeable about the menu and wanted to be sure we enjoyed it all. Their espresso martini was perfect. We started with bread and a cheese plate. Every element was carefully added and went together very well. The bread was cold but flavorful. For entrees, I enjoyed the mushroom & risotto. The mushrooms were a bit cold and chewy but the risotto was incredibly flavorful it made up for it. My partner had a NY Strip and it was a perfect medium rare. We had a side of mushrooms (tastier than the mushrooms in my entree, IMO) and the smashed potatoes. Everything was great. The restaurant itself is laid out well and the wood fire adds a nice ambiance. I'm a big fan and I would love to come again.

Yelp
Good Golly. We were in Asheville for a long weekend and went to Asheville Proper to celebrate a friend's birthday. Just thinking about this place makes me salivate. To start we shared the steak tartare and it was glorious. My husband and I split a steak, a bourbon seasoned one. The table got potatoes, mushrooms, and parker rolls. Maybe I just don't like parker house rolls. They were good, but....meh. The mushrooms were great but the potatoes....oh the potatoes. I'd go back just for those to be honest. We also had a bottle of Pinot Noir that paired phenomenally with the steak/steak sauce. For dessert we ordered a cheesecake, smores and husband ordered the ice cream, I think a bourbon mint? The ice cream was the clear winner, the cheesecake wasn't what I want in a cheesecake at all. The crust on this one was too thick and the filling was not a NY style at all. The smores were good, but I really just wanted the marshmallow part. Overall, we had an amazing time at Asheville Proper and hope to return again soon. The steak sauce was so good I took a bottle home with me.

Yelp
Delicious, great atmosphere. Everything we were looking for in downtown Asheville. Whole area/street was lovely.

Yelp
This restaurant is a MUST TRY. My boyfriend rarely gives praise to restaurants we try and this place is now in his top 3! Service was a bit slow but the food was completely worth it. We tried the squid steak appetizer which was tender and flavorful. The homemade sweet & sour sauce was amazing. We tried the duck breast, scallops, and smashed potatoes for our entrees and everything was divine! These were without a doubt the best scallops I've ever tried. The gravy on the potatoes was sooo rich and delicious. We also tried the miso cheesecake to-go and that was also just as tasty as the other dishes. On top of having amazing food the actual restaurant is so cozy and surprisingly casual for the fine dining food you get. We had a table that faced the kitchen and the head chef was literally cooking over an open fire which was so cool to watch. I cannot wait for my next trip so I can eat here again!

Gail C.

Yelp
Drawn by its location in the beautiful Grove Arcade, we were disappointed with an unremarkable menu and mediocre food preparation. Good service but overpriced given the so-so quality of our meals.

Ruby R.

Yelp
The food was creative and delicious. I am giving three stars because of the service. The server cleared plates of the others at the table even through my plate was still half full. I thought at fine dining establishments, plates are not cleared until everyone is finished. The part that caused the three stars is that the server came back and distributed dessert menus while I was still working on my main course. It diminished the experience. I felt rushed. Not what I expect when I pay that much for a meal.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
This was my second time in and they improved on my previous impression. This time I went with the ribeye over the filet and that was far superior. The potato side is boring and the crème brûlée melted. If you are downtown it's still worth a stop but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to visit if I wasn't already out that way.

Kelly L.

Yelp
This was a great dinner spot for our small business meeting. The food was delicious and the wine selection was great. The atmosphere was a cool vibe, eclectic but still classy. Our waiter Colby was such a nice young man. He was very attentive and friendly. Lastly, make sure you try the Smores dessert. Yum!

Yelp
Food is amazing, portions were appropriate for each person and the wait staff was very helpful and accommodating.

Deb T.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing! We celebrated my husband's birthday with family and everything we were served was delicious! The server was very friendly and informative! Will definitely go back again!

Yelp
The live fire was a mood in this small restaurant. We only got cocktails. The bar menu is classic with a tiny twist. The use of sweet syrups were a little to pronounced for me. But it's a cute spot.

jane b.

Yelp
Worst service ever. We watched 3 other tables who arrived after us be served, including dessert, and leave while we were still waiting to be served. The food was excellent, but we won't return.
google avatar

Janice W.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our dinner at Asheville Proper. Lots of good flavors and the grilled fire taste was amazing! The squash was excellent- don't know what kind of sauce is on the squash but yummy! My filet was a little tough and I ordered it medium- the thinner half was fine but it was very rare so I didn't eat a third of it. I was full from the apps and sides but I'd look more closely the next time and have it sent back to cool a little more.
google avatar

Daf G.

Yelp
Food and wine here was magnificent! We came as a group of 9 people from out of town and made a reservation here. We highly recommend the Bone Marrow & steak Tar Tar as starters, with anything from the fire. You can't go wrong with the mains. Oh, also, you'd be remiss not to order the side of Heirloom Tomatoes served with a basil pesto cream

Yelp
Went to dinner on Sunday, Dec 18th. The waitstaff and ambiance are lovely. There was a busy vibe in the restaurant, (a bridal shower of 8, and a family of about 10 among other smaller parties) but we got seated right away. The problem arrived when my husband's filet mignon arrived bloody rare instead of the medium-rare to medium that we ordered. They graciously took it back to cook some more, it came back 10 minutes later. Still bleeding rare. Took it back again, another 10 minutes, still on the rare side of medium but better. At this point, we had shared my tenderloin steak and all of the a-la-carte sides. My beef (pun intended) is this: I've had an underdone steak before, it happens, no big deal. But if you're going to charge $72 for a 9-ounce steak it better be exceptional. And this just... wasn't. And to mess up the cooking temp, twice? The sides, flame- roasted beets, and flame-roasted Brussels Sprouts with Goat cheese, were both also... fine, not exceptional. The 3-dollars each parker-house rolls were white bread rolls. Basic takeaway is: excellent service, pleasant atmosphere, but the price is about double what the meal was worth.
google avatar

Noelle D.

Yelp
Yum, yum, yum! The bone marrow was fantastic! Service was a bit slow, especially for a small restaurant. We had a couple times where we were wondering where our server was. We did small plates instead of entrees and that was perfect! The rolls are good, but the sweet potatoes were odd. They were ginger sweet potatoes and we use ginger often when we cook at home. However, the ginger was so overpowering we couldn't finish them (which is a shame considering how expensive things are here). Steer clear of the sweet potatoes, but everything else we tried was good!

Yelp
Asheville Proper is one of my favorite restaurants in the state and must-go to place in Asheville! They specialize in live fire cooking and it's centrally located in the historic Grove Arcade! I recently came here for my birthday and they hand wrote me a note which I thought was a sweet gesture! If you need a recommendation - I will state the obvious - Get a steak (of course) with your pick of filet mignon, NY strip, ribeye, and even a wagyu option! I always get the filet with the house made AP sauce on the side although the steak def doesn't need a sauce - but if you offer me a sauce I will take one! You can also get chimmichurri, smoked black garlic butter, or horseradish cream. They have loads of side options but my fave is the crispy confit potatoes which are to die for! Do not leave without getting the s'mores dessert which consists of a graham cracker semifreddo, dark chocolate ganache, toasted meringue, graham cracker. It's elegant, stunning and delicious! I had it a couple years ago on my mini moon and had to get it again for my birthday! For cocktails we got the Espresso Martini and the Born to Rum which were both really good! Consistently good service and excellent food!
google avatar

Sandy E.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! We got steaks and added the autumn and signature steak sauce they are both very delicious. For our side we ordered the potato's to share which was a perfect size. Would totally go back!

Alex L.

Yelp
If you're visiting or local and need a good dinner place for date night or family celebrations, then this should be at the top of your list! I meant to write this review months ago..But we came here for a family dinner and everything was amazing. Their cocktails, the service... both 10/10. We had a bunch of dishes, my favorites were the duck breast and dry aged rib eye. 100/100! I forgot what dessert we had but you can't go wrong with any of the items on their menu. Will definitely be back again.
google avatar

Joanie L.

Yelp
Had a nice late meal outdoors here and enjoyed the octopus and duck apps. I think that's what we got. I felt the octopus needed more char but good overall along with a local IPA and a bees knees cocktail at fair prices. Good service and nice to sneak into a place for a late-ish dinner which is hard to do in Asheville sometimes.
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
Asheville finally house a legit steakhouse! Ribeye and Filet were cooked to perfection. Excellent steak, attentive service, delicious sides. Mussel appetizer was on point. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
While the space was beautiful this was a huge flop for us. The plating was nice, the drinks were good. Ideal ambiance. However, the execution was poor. Service was really questionable. We never had water and had to constantly flag our server down. He wasn't writing things down so missed items and didn't take time to explain anything on the menu. All the details aside we had groups of three girls sharing plates and asked our server if three small plates were enough to share which he said yes. Definitely not enough to share. The meatballs were bite size and only three on the plate. 5 gnocchi in a serving. We would have ordered more once we realized the portion size but just really didn't enjoy anything that came out so had to order more food at our next stop. The broccoli was somehow burnt in flavor but very firm. The meatballs had a fishy taste to them. Everything just lacked flavor as a whole. The rolls looked like they'd be those delicious Hawaiian rolls but unfortunately were dry and had nothing to them. We were so excited for this menu but think they have something's to figure out.

Yelp
Food was good, but what will have me come back is our server. She was attentive and very patient with us and all our questions! We celebrated my mother 50th here tonight and she stepped way out of her comfort zone with some things I ordered. She was very happy so I was happy.

Yelp
My first experience at this restaurant was back in August and it was good. I felt like the ribeye I received was very good. However, the noise in the restaurant was ridiculous. The club like music was so loud that we wouldn't even hear anyone speaking. 6/10 However, my 2nd experience at this restaurant last week was insanely disappointing. It was my 30th birthday and I decided to come here for some good steak. I brought my husband with me after telling him the steak was great. After several conservations with the waitress about the menu we decided to do the Chef's Tasting Menu, which was a whopping $125/person! Which we were told was an 8 course meal with all different sorts of menu items featured and would definitely have steak! Not once did the waitress mention the portion sizes to us. Mind you, we have done several of these "Chef's Selection/Tasting" type of meals at other local restaurants and have had great experiences despite the expensive cost of them. The last one we did was $85 a person but it was excellent and very filling. So in our minds, surely if this is $125/person it will be amazing! Right? WRONG. The first course comes out...1 Roll with butter. 2nd course...1 fancy shrimp on a small cracker. 3rd course...4 paper thin 3in slices of venison tatake. 5th course...2 small bites of chewy fatty duck. 6th course...one quarter sized ball of lemon Italian ice. 7th course...1 bite of chewy steak. 8th course...a couple bites of some kind of ginger apple dessert that wasn't good. THAT. WAS. IT. $125 a person...for 8 bites of food?! My husband I left so upset and hungry. He offered to order us a steak to split before we left but I told him I did not want to spend another dollar there. For both of us after tip this cost us $300. Unreal. I got in the car and was honestly kind of embarrassed that I picked this place and then chose that meal. Just not what I had in mind for my 30th birthday. Honestly I teared up driving home just thinking about being hungry and just having spent $300 for some mediocre tasting meal. Felt pretty scammy to be honest. I did call the restaurant and spoke with the assistant manager who referred me to the GM. He didn't offer much of an apology and was kind of like yeah well that's what the Chef put together, sorry you didn't like it. Unfortunately, would not recommend this restaurant to anyone else and will not be back. There are far better nicer restaurants in asheville to go to that probably would be less than what we spent there. The Inn on Biltmore, the Grove Park Inn, the Reg Stag, etc.
