Ashley’s Cafe Review - Richmond - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This corner spot in the Inner Richmond is a great option for a chill breakfast, lunch, or coffee and a snack. Skip the sub-par bagels and weird potpies and go with the egg sandwiches for breakfast, bulgogi or turkey avocado sandwich for lunch, and excellent chocolate chip cookies for a snack. Or just 10 cookies." - Will Kamensky

I like the atmosphere of the restaurant and I tried the signature menu: all of them were great, especially the chicken sandwich! The handmade cookies were also very soft and delicious. Will definitely go again.

Google
Ashley's is a great neighborhood cafe. I come here often and the food, coffee, and service are always on point. I especially love their bulgogi cheesesteak sandwich, which has just the right amount of spice, nice tender meat, and a fresh mix of lettuce, tomato, and onion. The dirty chai never fails, and the onigiri make a nice snack on the go. My daughter (2 yo.) loves their ham/egg/cheese croissant sandwich as well, and she gets excited when we get to eat at "the cafe." I highly recommend this spot!

Google
Fantastic Coffee, Great Food, and Excellent Service! Ashley’s Café in the Inner Richmond is a true gem! The food is fresh and delicious, with a great selection of breakfast and lunch options. Their coffee is absolutely fantastic—smooth, rich, and expertly made. Whether you’re grabbing a quick cup or sitting down for a meal, the quality is always top-notch. What really sets Ashley’s Café apart is the excellent customer service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making every visit a pleasant experience. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back again and again. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

Google
I absolutely LOVE Ashley’s!! The employees are so nice and friendly, the atmosphere is chill if you want to grab a casual breakfast, brunch or lunch and dine in or grab and go! My go to’s are: Seikos, Robert’s, and onigiri for a quick snack on the road! I also love their matcha and chugiccino! Give Ashley’s’s a try!

My coworker invited me to try a sandwich at Ashley's. I ordered a Turkey BLT. The sandwich roll was toasted and the ingredients were exactly as described in the menu. I offer the sandwich 2 stars. The price for my regular sandwich was $13.50. I can understand if the cost of the food reflects the quality, quantity and taste but my sandwich had neither. I definitely will not return. Overpriced and Overrated.

Google
Clean place, great coffee and tasty food. Highly recommended

Google
Overly priced for very mediocre food. I ordered a salad and the veggies are unwashed and taste like soil. The turkey is literal sliced lunch meat, hardly enough salad dressing for this salad and the service is subpar only serving in to go plates.. for 22 dollars oh and the worker didn't give me change she judt tossed it I to her tip jar after I already gave a tip. What? I saw outside they have gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches painted on the side of the building. The only grilled cheese they have is 8 dollars for children... and 13 dollars for an avocado smoothie. This place is a rip off.

Google
Wow it has been a while to send a huge thank you to everyone at Ashley's. Super busy cafe with great food. My favorite is mushroom coffee and breakfast croissant. They even have egg whites to substitute for regular eggs. Never disappoints. Thank you!

Yelp
Door wide open at 2:40pm. All the tables full. When I went in to order, he said they're closed. Then why are your doors open?! Supposedly they close at 3, but he said they close at 2:30? Again, not sure why the sign says open and your doors are wide open. Came here because I had a great sandwich here before, but won't be back.

Yelp
Inflation is real. A place at the corner, On my way to the sunny trials stopping by for a cup of coffee and some treats, coffee was not bad, inflation is too real.

Yelp
Came back here to meet up with a friend. We split the BLT. There was a lot of avocado, which I liked. The bacon was a tad over cooked. It wasn't crispy but tasted like it was out for a little bit and got hard. It was still fine bc the sandwich was actually really good regardless. My latte was good as well. Service remains great and plenty of seating.

Yelp
Friends and I always get the little musubis and onigiri when we walk by. Don't like coffee? That's ok! Pick up a matcha latte! You won't be disappointed. Need some random groceries? They got this too! (Thanks pandemic lol) Staff is always kind and friendly!

Yelp
Been stopping there for a few years and still feels like home. Julie and everyone who shares customer care. Their Bacon Lettuce Tomato Avocado is sooooooooooo good. Grateful for the music as well and cleanliness. Thank you for caring for each of us.
google avatar

Hannah F.

Yelp
Bulgogi sandwich is the best! Quick, coffee is good, everything on the menu is great!
google avatar

Naomi W.

Yelp
Clean and spacious corner cafe with a good amount of seating available. Got a BLTA. Good portions and the creamy avocado helps cancel out the saltiness of the bacon. This was my second time here, and service has been quick and very friendly both times!

Yelp
This lil spot on California street has been keeping me coming back for the last 10 years. I originally moved to SF and was super close to Ashley's and it became a regular spot for me. I've moved downtown but still order delivery or stop by when I'm in the area. My favorite sandwich is the Ashley Club ! So good! And for breakfast you can never go wrong with a bagel sandwich- I always love the Seiko. They are always super friendly, have great menu options, are consistent and quick! Cozy little spot to have coffee in if you stop in.
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Best sandwiches and coffee ever. A little slice of heaven in SF.

Yelp
After striking out at two sandwich shops toward the beginning of a bike ride, we found Ashley's Cafe along our route and picked up sammies there, with no expectations. I had the turkey avocado and was very pleasantly surprised! The baguette was light with a thin crunchy outside that allowed for bites that didn't result in the contents squeezing out the back. Delicious! I'm not sure I'll go out of my way for it, but I bet this won't be the last time I eat here!

Patti W.

Yelp
I love Ashleys. I work as an assessmment learning specialist across the street, and Ashleys always has great fast service with hot chocolate, croissants, and herbal teas for a quick snack before work. Wondrrful ambiance!

Yelp
Ashley's is the best. Friendly service. Insane sandwiches. Good cookies. Yum. And best of all STRONG COFFEE!

Yelp
Food: -small Pomegranate mocha ($5) It was an interesting flavor that I've never tried before. The pomegranate flavor wasn't too subtle nor strong, and kind of added a sour taste to the mocha, but it wasn't an unpleasant kind of sour. I would probably try something else next time. But if you're feeling adventurous, you should try this drink. -ultimate veggie sandwich ($10) It was a decent sandwich; toasted bread, variety of veggies, nice amount of condiments, and was nicely wrapped and cut in half. I would get it again. Ambience: They had a little corner of vintage items that didn't really match the modern wood-y vibes of the interior design which I thought was kind of weird. The music was varied and not too loud, which I liked. Physical space: They added an outdoor parklet (like many business in this COVID era) so there's generous seating indoors and outdoors. I would say there's about 2 seats each to 5 tables outdoors and at least 12 seats indoors. Overall: Food: 4.5/5 It didn't blow me away, but it was a solid eats. Service: 4.8/5 I went on a late morning on a Friday and it was pretty busy, but service was relatively quick. :-)

Yelp
The mood inside is weird - the ladies working the counter are cold and uninviting, but they make a pretty mean vanilla oat milk latte and breakfast sandwich. Enjoyed both so much that I might come back and bear the weird vibes inside just to try the food/drinks out again.
google avatar

Lisa X.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood spot for coffee / tea / sandwiches and snacks. You can dine in doors or outdoors. Clean and friendly service.

Reva L.

Yelp
The best chocolate chip cookie in San Francisco. Perfectly chewy on the inside, with a touch of crisp and salt on the outside.

Anne S.

Yelp
The food here is OK, typical boring SF sandwiches and the like. Nothing to write home about. Definitely overpriced. BUT I don't go because they have a history of health department violations. Once being shut down. No thanks. Learn the rules, keep it spotless or not getting my business.

Anita C.

Yelp
Best matcha latte and chocolate chip cookies in town! Also love the avocado and smoke salmon rice balls....
google avatar

Yelp
Open during SIP! Roommates and I stopped by for a cup of coffee to pair with Arsicault croissants (a quick 10min walk away). The cafe looks like a mix between a coffee shop and a small market, with a shelf of non-perishables (gourmet chocolate, snacks, and the like), and another table of Acme bread and limited produce. They also have some ready made snacks including tuna salad/bulgogi onigiri and spam musubi. I got the charcoal latte with almond milk (~$6). Flavor was light and sesame-like, and our orders came out quickly. I'd come back again if I were in the area!
google avatar

Tiffany R.

Yelp
Delicious food. Clean & quiet ambiance... I had the ham + Swiss and it was the perfectly toasted, neat. I will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Ashley's Cafe is a good cafe with musubis like spam and salmon musubi..also got bacon..3 musubis and one coca cola..yum and fun..on California in Richmond. cafe to sit at after tennis.

Yelp
This place is very HIT or MISS. I've come here a few times in the span of seven years. FOOD: 3/5 1. Got a BLT twice - incredible salty 2. BLTA - much better with avocado cancelling out the saltiness 3. Matcha Latte Cold - still had matcha CHUNKS in it, so gross 4. Matcha Latte Hot - recommend this more!! SERVICE: 3/5 1. Depending on who's there, the service is either OK at best or they think that they're hot sh*t AMBIANCE: 5/5 1. Great place to get work done, very dark & quiet location 2. Nice interior and exterior for a getting things done or having a chat with a friend OVERALL : 3/5 Great place to get things done, but FOOD & DRINKS, there's better and cheaper!
google avatar

Dana B.

Yelp
Cute place to meet a friend or crank out work on the laptop with an espresso. Enticing musubi on the counter, cookies and such. I vouch for the BLT--bomb.

Sharmaine G.

Yelp
They always make the best chocolate chip cookies here! The coffee makes me awake every time I order mocha here meaning their coffee is high quality! I love it! The place is neat and quiet ! Thanks ! Fast service! Thank you!

Isadora C.

Yelp
Ashley's Cafe is everything I want in a sandwich shop. Their bread is delicious and fresh. The baked goods are all amazing. You could get some work done here, hang out, stop by for a quick lunch like the onigiri and musubi they have. The service is wonderful. I love Ashley's!

Yelp
Perfect! Normally I hesitate trying businesses w/less than 4, but then I remembered I'm in SF, where people get snooty over a TOASTED cheese sandwich being toasted slightly more than their precious child prefers. So I was drawn in by the onigiri and it did not disappoint! Perfect size, texture, price($3.75), and flavor for my I-don't-want-a-breakfast-but-not-quite-ready-for-a-lunch-yet peckishness. The hot Chai Latte w/almond milk was beautifully spiced ($4.50 + .75 for Alm milk) and accompanied my spicy salmon, and also steak(bulgolgi), onigiris nicely. MDH enjoyed his toasted ham, egg, cheese croissant ($6.50) and house drip coffee($2.75). Prices are competitive w/other cafe establishments in SF. Service was pleasant and efficient. I shall return!

Lionel H.

Yelp
Frustrating unclear pricing. I wanted an iced medium latte priced at $5.25 and for some reason iced is only available on large, so got the $5.75 large that was for some reason $7.28 before tip. Receipt was not itemized, just showed $7.28. What in the world adds $1.53 or 27 percent that is not written anywhere? Drink was fine, very frustrating experience though.

Yelp
Great coffee and best chocolate chip cookies that i ever had!!! I recommend this cozy cafe.

Yelp
Ashley's Cafe has been a staple for a few years now, and it's still stayed as my go to. As a black coffee drinker, I appreciate that they use quality beans and roast them properly, to make sure they get that right consistency. You also can't go wrong with their menu items. My personal favorites are the lox bagel, and the bulgogi sandwich (if you've never had a bulgogi sandwich I would highly recommend you get your first try form this place). Not only is the food and coffee amazing, but the staff is extremely friendly, easy to talk to, and keeps the line moving so you don't have to wait long at all.

Yelp
Nice little cafe I was walking around Lake Street district desperate for coffee and could find none! Half a block away, I saw a man walking his dog. I figured he must be a local, so I asked him if he knew of a cafe near by. He suggested Ashley's Cafe a couple of blocks away. The place is small, but nice. When I walked in there were a few people working on their laptops (I suppose the cafe offers WiFi connection) and a couple of others chatting at a table. There were two young ladies behind the counter. I asked one of them for my single shot of espresso (long pull) and sat at a table to read an email I had just received. The young lady was nice enough to bring my espresso to my table (instead of calling me to go and get it) and it was perfect. They also offer pastries, sandwiches and salads, but I did not have anything but coffee this time, maybe next time.

Yelp
lovely people who make me gluten-free avocado sandwich. I haven't reacted though I am not celiac, just super sensitive. I love their outdoor space because there is sun almost all day too. tea is good, have not had chance to try their coffee. Great small business!

Yelp
Good place to grab a coffee, good size food menu too! Had the iced coffee and a tea. Plenty of seating outside and inside too.

Yelp
Doesn't it seem like the Richmond district has more cafes per square mile than any other part of the city? I have no idea if that's true, probably not but I needed to open this review with some misinformed observation. Just call it a Trumpism. Anyhow, I strolled over here as I was waiting for my Prius to get serviced. Surely you're not surprised I have a Prius. I didn't think so. They have a pretty robust breakfast menu and a long list of melted sandwiches, all of which sounded tempting (photo: http://bit.ly/2nUpuBE), but I was wisely avoiding between-meals meals at the time. Instead, I went for a piping hot $3 cup of Peppermint Tea (photo: http://bit.ly/2CfgJ9D) and sat myself down in a quiet space amid other silent tea sippers. Kinda like a cult, huh. TEA - 4 stars...nice cup of loose leaf warmth AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...library-like in here SERVICE - 3.5 stars...very quiet and unobtrusive TOTAL - 4 stars...am I Yelping too loud, Ashley?

Yelp
I just come here for my morning coffee because it's a couple blocks away from work. I usually just order a latte or an iced coffee. Prices are average and the baristas are usually pretty fast. Perfect spot for a quick coffee before work.

Anthony T.

Yelp
As others have said, too much mayo and a little pricey, but everything post pandemic is more pricey. I don't remember having a tuna sandwich this good. The bread was nicely toasted and thin. I had a side of kim chee ($2). The kim chee was old, which is good for kim chee soup, but not as a side. My wife had turkey and avocado. She was happy with her sandwich as well, except for the large amount of mayonnaise. I tried the green smoothie. My wife liked it more than I did. I will try the mushroom coffee drink next time.

Yelp
Ashley's: basically the reason why I wake up every morning to go to work. I relied on this cafe almost everyday especially this past summer since my job started at 7am and they were always open at 6am. Now I don't work as early, but I still rely on Ashley's to wake me up and to motivate me to get some work done. I've probably been here more than 20 times in the past year, and usually order the same thing. Drinks: I'm a huge fan of their organic coffee, especially the plain ol' latte. Consistently brewed well, despite the varying baristas on shift and brewed perfectly to my liking. Whoever trained them did a good job! I can always taste the espresso in my latte and they add just enough milk to create good foam! Food: I haven't personally tried their sandwiches but my friends have. They love the Bulgogi Cheese Steak-- It's a little spicy and the bulgogi is yummy. The wait might be a little longer if you order food (which is a good sign so you know they're making it per order). They also sell pastries and little snacks at the counter, like onigiris and bread loaves. I recommend trying their chocolate chip cookies too if you haven't. A little pricy for a chocolate chip cookie, $2.75, but I find reasons to treat myself as the cookies are fresh & baked daily and just reallllly hits the spot with the coffee. Atmosphere & Service: Casual, cozy, and homey. Today, they were playing holiday jams and spreading holiday cheer. I enjoy their music playlist--usually fun and positive vibes! Plenty of seating available, outdoors and indoors. They're mostly small tables to chat and/or work and they have a longer table with many outlets. Place gets busy depending on the time of the day, mostly morning rush and afternoon when school lets out--a lot of families stop by. Weekend mornings and afternoons tend to be busy too, but service is quick and efficient. Overall, Ashley's is a good choice and never leaves me disappointed.

Yelp
Neighborhood coffee shop with a friendly and warm staff the sandwiches and little snacks are what I usually get here when I'm lazy and just need a good sandwich or snack, spicy sausage and the cheesesteak are my go to but the breakfast sandwiches are delicious as well. But don't let them sit eat right away

Liyi D.

Yelp
It has been a while since my last visit to Ashley's. I happened to in the the area and decided to revisit. When I saw the cheesesteak sandwich on the chart board outside the cafe, I wanted it. As I placed the order over the counter, my order was repeated as the bulgugi sandwich by one of the ladies. I liked bulgugi in general, therefore, it was okay with me. Sandwich came out nicely. Vegetables were fresh and crunchy. There was a light spice to it which was a good surprise. There was less meat compared to a traditional cheesesteak sandwich. I can understand why some people would expect more meat because cheesesteak sandwiches usually comes with more meat than this bulgugi sandwich. I picked up an origini too. It was as good as I remembered. This cafe also has a convince corner for snacks, fruits and few other daily needs. Prices are fair. Overall, my most recent visit didn't disappoint me.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE! Can't believe I just discovered this gem. Staff: friendly! Environment: A lot of seatings. Free wifi. Perfect for working and with a lot of windows so you don't feel locked in. Very open. Food: They sell onigiri (rice balls)!!! I am sold. I tried their smoked salmon onigiri (3.75) -- amazing; the raw salmon with avocado and mayonnaise are the perfect combo. I ordered their hazelnut latte -- tasted amazing, like good coffee; not too sweet, just perfect. I also ordered their Omega-3 bite (1.75?) -- a very small snacks that is vegan. Would definitely go back to try their other types of onigiri. This is also a great place to study/work, super quiet. Accept apple pay!

Yelp
Stopped by Ashley's Cafe to grab a sandwich on my way to the park, what a find! Such a cute neighborhood spot. I went for a classic Ham and Swiss, so delish! They have great outdoor seating and a parklet for those interested. Highly recommend!

Yelp
It pains me to write this review about Ashley's. I've been a loyal and frequent customer for about 10 years but I've had it with this place and don't think I'll be going back. They leave the door wide open for the cold SF wind and fog to blow through, when you ask if it's ok to close it they just say NO! The coffee is consistently bitter and lukewarm and the employees areas cold as the fog. I don't think they have ever once said thank you as I left. Last but not least the bathroom door doesn't lock properly. Twice today I saw awkward encounters as someone opened the door while someone else was doing their business inside. Sorry Ashely's but I'm moving on. Adios!

Sarah K.

Yelp
very delicious eats; there's been times where i got one of their egg bacon and cheese croissants for breakfast and then went back later and got a blt for lunch

Tiffany R.

Yelp
Did not care for them....Because I asked for mayo on both sides of the bread, NOT EXTRA MAYO she DRENCHED the entire sandwich like she was MAD....Will never go back there. If your having a bad day stay home!!!!
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
Came here because I thought it might be a good place to work. While they do have free WiFi, it's pretty slow, and the power outlets are not conveniently located (they have a big power strip in one corner but not that many other power outlets around the cafe). I got a chocolate croissant ($3), which tasted like it was at least a couple days old - stale and soggy. Their chocolate chip cookies look pretty good but are expensive ($3.50 each for a pretty small size). Note that there is a $5 minimum for credit cards.

A A.

Yelp
I like the food here but at least 2 of the ladies working there are extremely rude. Ordered sandwiches for pickup on multiple occasions and left a note to request a bag. Upon pickup the lady told me she would need to charge me for a bag fee which is fine, but condescendingly told me to add a bag through the app....well, there is no such feature on uber eats to add a bag otherwise I would have done so. Another time I placed an order for pickup and decided upon arrival that I would also be purchasing a cookie. Lady asked her co worker "why didnt she just order the cookie through the app?" right in front of me. Well, guess what? That item also isnt available on uber eats. Not the customers fault that YOU havent updated the online menu. Never coming back.

Yelp
We were out walking with friends and decided to stop for drinks and nibbles. The sandwiches and coffee were certainly a hit. Very friendly service. We will definitely return.

Yelp
We order delivery from here frequently enough for me to say with confidence that Ashley's is amazing (despite having never stepped foot into this establishment)! It's one of the few places that deliver coffee and espresso-based drinks for under $3 per drink and offers delightful options for breakfast and lunch. Our perennial favorites are the breakfast bagels and onigiris. Bubba's with an everything bagel is my go-to: it's got a fried egg, melted cheese, slices of tomato, and slivers of red onion. It's hearty but arguably healthy, or so I like to tell myself. When I'm feeling more indulgent, I go for the bulgogi onigiri. We're talking tasty bits of marinated beef stuffed with mayo and seasoning in a pyramid pouch of sweetly vinegared rice stamped with a badge of seaweed. It's an artful blend of the kind of Asian fusion delight you'd expect to see in the Bay Area. My husband loves their spam and while I agree they're delicious I think they're pricey for the amount of bites you get. Still, it's hard to think of another place in the area that does the rice so well. A is for Ashley's!
google avatar

Shuyi L.

Yelp
A decent cafe where it is best if you come in with a small party. There is a plenty of small tables indoor and one long wooden table. The design of this place is more for a quick drink/sandwich/snack because the WiFi is not too strong to work here and I did not seem to find an outlet as well. Food: I ordered an green juice ($8) which is kind of watery for the price, an avocado toast ($5) very yummy I liked it a lot, a blueberry scone ($3.5) kind of tasteless, can be sweeter. They have a lot of pastry choices by the counter and per the cashiers, the pastries are all freshly baked in the morning. Con: staffs are friendly. They actually engaged in talking to the customers and it added lots of warmth to this place

Yelp
Cute little cafe with the perfect environment to get some work done during a rainy SF day! My coworkers and I also like to order sandwiches and coffee to go from here during our lunch breaks and I always look forward to my sandwich! Tried the sea salt latte and it was so yummy! Not too strong of a coffee flavor, but i still very much enjoyed it. I've also tried their matcha latte and it's not a super strong matcha flavor but guess most of their drinks are lighter than most. Coworkers really enjoy their veggie sandwich or tuna melt, but I really like their BLT sandwich. Hit or miss though because last time my sandwich had like the perfect amount of sauce?? Mayo?? Idk?? But it was SOO GOOD. But today it was light sauce. A bit inconsistent depending on who makes the sandwiches, but that's ok, I'm sure if I just ask next time they'd fix it. Friendly service with smiles all around, but also a bit on the pricier end. Overall, a great cafe to visit once in a while!
