Ashley's Ice Cream

Google
Awesome ice cream. Great servers. My granddaughter loves this place and so do I. I love the soft serve and we spent many hours at this store during the summer days. Charlie Farricielli

Google
Lovely ice cream store in excellent location. I pulled off the interstate while traveling to eat lunch at the Brownstone House of Guilford. As I was leaving, what do I see directly in front of me? You guessed it, ice cream! And no self-respecting foodie is going to ignore that gastronomical sign of the heavens, right? Wonderful flavors, I had mint chip in a waffle cone, and an assortment of many other sweet concoctions. They also make ice cream cakes that are holiday and season themed. I hear that Halloween time is especially enchanting. Super friendly staff and just what I needed for dessert.

Google
Multiple locations in CT shows you how good the ice cream is. Sweet cream is great and I love their milkshakes. Lines can be a bit wild especially in the summer with tourists

Belma P.

Google
Ice cream is good, however when I asked if possible to get one scoop half/half they do not allow to mix two flavors in one scoop. You have to buy two scoops. Scoops are really big and one scoop is pretty enough. it would be nice to taste two flavors in one. Price for one scoop is about $5 Outdoor space and tables not very clean.

Julie N.

Google
I called for a Hello Kitty ice cream cake to be made for a birthday. They said they don’t put pictures on cakes so I asked for hello kitty colors. I received light pink straggly writing and red heart sprinkles along the edges of cake. Not many either.. I would think they would put decor on the cake when I asked for a Hello kitty cake and they said they don’t do anything like that when I called back today to ask what happened. When I asked for the colors, I didn’t think I would get straggly light pink colors with some red hearts around the edges. Also when I called back to ask what happened, the store manager Kate was rude. Awful customer service! Do better. Do ALOT better! Explain to your customers so they aren’t disappointed when they look at it. It’s called customer satisfaction. I will never go back.

Ross A.

Google
Ice cream was great but server was very sub par. When asked a question about the ice cream flavors which were not labeled in the case at all her response was they are listed on the wall. Now how are you supposed to know which one is which based off a list on a wall versus looking at them. While it is obvious what some of them are you can't always tell.

Jillian R.

Google
Really delicious ice cream! Their sugar free ice creams are phenomenal and taste like normal ice cream - creamy and flavorful. They’re also very careful about allergies.

Mahima S.

Google
Love this place. We had coffee and brownie ice cream and it was delicious topped with chocolate fudge. In heaven. Must try when visiting Connecticut.

Yelp
Randomly ended up here after dinner at The Place restaurant nearby. A sweet treat is always needed after dinner, right? As soon as I approached the place, I knew it was going to be good and looked like a local favorite. There were a lot of families there and on the walls, there were a lot of drawings from children about how much they love their ice cream. They had the typical and unique flavors and everything my friends and I tried were very good. Their hot fudge was realllllllly good! It was legit! They are generous with their scoops, which is something that a lot of ice cream places, especially the chain ones, are not so good about. The staff there is super friendly, sweet, and helpful and lets you taste the different flavors. If you're in the area, you must stop by this place and have their ice cream. It will definitely satisfy your ice cream or sweet cravings.

Yelp
Didn't get great service and ice cream was lacking richness and flavor. Nowhere to wash sticky fingers afterward either.

Yelp
So Dylan , Cassie& Delaney?? Were our servers it was Sunday night 10 min before closing. Anyone familiar with this type of business knows if it comes close to closing time and have no one well then break it down. They were all pleasant accommodating and just straight up fabulous!! The milk shake machine was already cleaned and a woman who came after us made such a fuss over it asking for manager info ect.. get a grip people everyone wants to go home!!

Yelp
First time visiting this Ashley's with my wife. Of the ice cream places sometimes discussed among CT's best, Ashley's is not one that I connect with. I haven't had bad experiences. Ice cream is almost always good, and I've had good ice cream from Ashley's. I haven't had a great experience with Ashley's though. My wife, on the other hand, is a big fan. My wife asked me to order for her, and I knew she would like a sundae with Heath Bar ice cream, hot fudge, M&M's and the thick Ashley's whipped cream. It looked very good and my wife loved it. I suspect she would leave a 5 Star review. I was hoping there would be a cool, and interesting ice cream flavor that would shout out to me. That wasn't the case, and that's been my primary issue with Ashley's. They have fewer flavor choices than many ice cream places. There are at least two CT places I love with fewer flavor choices, but those places execute the heck out of those flavors. That hasn't been my experience with Ashley's. After sampling and failing to connect with Orange/Pineapple, I decided to order a root beer float with vanilla ice cream. It was good, not great. Par for the course. The non-food parts of my visit were all very good. This is probably the nicest looking Ashley's I've been in, and I liked the umbrella-covered outside seating. Service was both friendly and efficient. So another good Ashley's visit for me. But not a memorable one. Four Stars

Yelp
Such great service wayyyy better than Ben and Jerry's and bishop ice cream felt very homemade
google avatar

Shagail S.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST ICE CREAM I've tried since I've been in CT(two years now!!!) Cute friendly young people, generous portions, interesting flavor options and bursts of flavor in every bite!!!! PERFECT CREAM RATIO
google avatar

Pat C.

Yelp
The best in CT! Cones, pies and all sorts of cool treats. Tasty low fat flavors. Thai place is a must.
google avatar

Jerry S.

Yelp
Great ice cream. The cinnamon is to die for. I usually eat in the New Haven location. The ice cream is the same good stuff but the service was not as good. More of the distracted, "what ever", high school student attitude tonight.

Yelp
Ashley's is a tradition whenever we visit our friends - every Memorial Day weekend since I was little, we'd A) go watch the parade in Guilford and B) visit Ashley's at some point over the weekend. I give it four stars because it's delicious ice cream, but it is a little pricey. Still, I can never say no! One of my favorite parts is the drawings all over the walls, made by Ashley's fans of all ages. Most recently I had vanilla softserve with rainbow sprinkles in a waffle cone. Classic.
google avatar

George N.

Yelp
Great ice cream but it feels as though the place has not been cleaned in over a year. The staff were nice but we were there an hour before closing on a slow night and no one was cleaning up. The place needed a good overall but simple stuff was left uncleaned. Take a look at the pictures to get an idea. Incidentally, the other places that serve Ashley's ice cream are cleaner.
google avatar

Tommy Nicholas V.

Yelp
Personally, I don't get the attraction. It's ice cream in a not very clean facility. No tables to hang out with... Or certainly, very few. Heck, bring back Baskin Robbins. Cold Stone kills this ice cream. I suppose, to each his own. No, it's not horrible... Just go hum
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
The perfect place for a yummy treat! Very friendly staff and good ice cream! Definitely will be returning next time I visit! My one critique is that they serve the brownie option in too small of a cup and the fudge gets everywhere. It can get quite messy, but it is delicious!

Frants B.

Yelp
Went there yesterday with my 3 granddaughters. Delicious ice cream, and a very friendly service. Just perfect.

Chungus L.

Yelp
Vibes were there, was happily greeted as soon as I walked in and served immediately (9/10). The coffee Oreo milkshake can only be described as dreamlike (10/10). My only complaint would be the poor consistency, that thang was thicker than a bowl of oatmeal, had a tough time sucking it down, that's what she said (4/10). For a composite score of 7.66666/10. I mean I love thickness but Ashley's takes it to a whole other level. -bagel critic among other things
google avatar

Harry E.

Yelp
Ashley's sweet cream saved the evening. I was in a bad mood from a subpar meal at "the place" but Ashley's made it all better! Staff let us try a few different flavors, each one was bursting with flavor & reasonable prices. My wife isn't a big ice cream fan but she LOVES Ashley's!
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Ashley's! Maybe it's my pregnant cravings talking, but their ice cream really hit the spot. I loved that there were so many flavors to choose from!! I ended up going with one scoop of Swiss chocolate almond, and one scoop of a coffee/mocha with brownie (I can't remember the name), in a waffle cone. It was a great combo! The ice cream is rich and creamy. It was definitely a large cone, but the $6 it costs still seems just a little steep. However, it's a nice way to indulge! The girls behind the counter are very nice and there are tons of sweet, ice cream treats to choose from and lots of toppings. I wish I lived closer, but I'll have to make it a priority to stop whenever we are in town visiting my in-laws!
google avatar

Arthur M.

Yelp
I kind of agree with the sentiments my yelp friend Anne E. expressed in her review- especially regarding the high school age counter folks customer service skills. Today at Ashley's was much improved. Maybe the owners took her comments to heart. I stopped for an ice cream cone after lunch at Lobster Landing. The shop owner was in and speaking to the customer ahead of me in line, who turned out to be the crew coach at Yale. Two of his students had just medaled in the London Olympics, and the owner said for them to stop by the New Haven shop when they get back in the country for congratulatory ice cream cones. I got my aunt a single scoop of vanilla in a dish with whipped cream and hot fudge, and a sugar cone single scoop of bourbon brown sugar for myself. The flavor of bourbon, rich and malty, comes through. My aunts vanilla- I'm a pig known to finish others' food sometimes- was creamy. The whipped cream was wicked thick. Hot fudge wicked thick. The creamy vanilla was a relief. We ate our ice cream in the car. The woman in the car next to us had a shaky 6 month old pup named Bandit, who she didn't want to leave alone in her car. She passed him through the passenger side window of our car for us to hold while she went in to Subway. He licked my ear.

Stacey M.

Yelp
We have been to several ice cream spots and this is by far out least favorite. As other reviewers have stated, the service is horrible! The girls working here have such horrible attitudes it is uncomfortable to even walk in. They should be able to fake it for a few minutes while dealing with consumers. For the amount of money you spend here the portions are extremely small and stingy. Overall not a great experience. Other establishments are serving triple the amount for a lesser price, just not worth it.
google avatar

Dawn K.

Yelp
I just remembered why I hate coming here. It's like the mean girls employer. EVERY time I come here the girls roll their eyes, act like they are doing a HUGE favor to wait on us when we have paid over $ 10 for two small ice creams. Doesn't Ashley's owner get it? This is my second bad review of this location. I hate being treated like this. No more.

Dinky S.

Yelp
Ashley's owners need to start hiring older mature people to work here. Instead of teenagers that just make the customers feel like shit and that we are burdens!
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
Cream dense! Anyone can win my heart with a Sweet Cream flavor, basically an unflavored ice cream that allows the basic ingredient of cream to shine. Vienna coffee was a lovely creamy coffee cinnamon. My husband prefers ridiculous flavors with lots of "stuff", but I prefer the focus to be smooth ice cream, so Ashley's is perfect for creamyness. I do wish the staff would warm up a bit, they must be a little more personable
google avatar

Tanya K.

Yelp
I LOVE their ice cream - it is incredible. However, their service is pretty terrible. They all act like they don't want that person to be there. I came in at 10:50, 10 mins before they were about to close, and I only had two order, it would take five minutes at the most. While I understand that they wanted to leave, the minute I paid, they just slammed the register and walked away, looking really upset. This has happened multiple times, even during the middle of the day over a weekend. Definitely not going back.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
Nom nom nom. I'm fairly certain that 7 of the 10 pounds I've gained since moving to Guilford are directly attributable to Ashley's. The other 3 are likely attributable to me being to lazy to get off my ass and exercise once in a while. It's not my fault, really! How am I supposed to resist this place? Peanut butter oreo, people! Peanut butter oreo. That stuff is made out of crack. (Daisy's review is for the Madison location a few miles down the road. This one is nowhere near the Stop N Shop, across the street from Friendly's, next plaza over from Walmart.)
google avatar

Lesley M.

Yelp
Being from Guilford, I wish I could say I really like Ashley's Ice Cream, but I don't. Growing up, everyone at my school like freakin' raved about it. I never got the phenomenon. Don't get me wrong, if someone handed me a cup or cone from Ashley's, I would gobble it down instantly. My point is, I got more excited about Friendly's, Carvel, and even McDonalds' soft-serve than Ashley's. Now that Carvel and Friendly's are out, Frogurt Time is where's at! I got to be honest; my review may be very outdated because I have not been to Ashley's in like eight years. From reading the other reviews about the mediocre customer service, I am not surprised.

Chris H.

Yelp
After being an Ashley's fan for many years, the shoreline has stepped up its ice cream game quite a bit recently and Ashley's just doesn't seem worth the price anymore. A small scoop in a cup is $4 now. I can go into New Haven to Arethusa and get about twice the ice cream for the same price. Not that I'm ravenous for huge portions but the value comparison is just really poor when there's other very good ice cream now. Come for the coffee oreo ice cream but there's definitely better out there for less. And with better service that isn't apathetic high schoolers.

Sarah W.

Yelp
Dirty. This place was one of the dirtiest places I have ever been too. I found a hair in my ice cream and I think rat poop on the ground along with a bunch of bugs on the umbrellas. Must be an infestation.
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Ashley's makes OK ice cream. Yea, how's that for an endorsement? I used to go here often but as of late whenever I get a hankering for ice cream, I just go to my local supermarket for a pint of Ben and Jerry's. I can't really say I fell out of love with Ashley's because I don't think I was ever in love with Ashley's. Now if anybody should love Ashely's it should be me. I have many memories of going to the original one on College Street in New Haven when I was a little kid. I remember seeing all the fresbies and thinking "whoah cool". In those days there wasn't much ice cream competition and Ashley's was the only premium ice cream choice in town. But since then, Ben & Jerry's, Stone Cold, and few other upscale ice cream brands have come into the fray. Unfortunately Ashley's has remained stale while other ice cream brands have improved their game. If you ask me, the owner of Ashley's is resting on his laurels and the whole local franchise relies on its reputation of years gone past. Now I say the owner of Ashley's and not Ashley, because if I remember correctly Ashley was the name of his dog. Ashely is not the owner's actual name. Regarding the employees, yea they're pathetic and care more about impressing their their friends than impressing their customers. But they're local Guilford high school kids. That's what they care about at that age. If they get fired, mom and dad will likely get them another job at Bishop Orchards or the Guilford Yacht Club. So in a nutshell, Ashely's isn't for me.
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
My name is Bob, and I'm an... Ice-Cream-holic! Perhaps on Yelp it's inappropriate to invoke a 12-Step cliche, but I've gotta be honest, ice cream is my downfall. I eat ice cream nearly every day and have tasted the best (and the worst). Ashley's is among the best ice cream we've had in an ice-cream parlor setting. (Of course, the ice cream that we've had on desserts at some of NYC's finest is a different animal.) Peculiarly, I don't like "lumps" in my ice cream (same for a good friend who's a bona-fide "foodie") -- therefore most of the ice cream potions/flavors available these days, particularly Ben & Jerry's, are not to my liking. The guy in charge here (probably franchisee) offered a taste of their fall special, Pumpkin with Ginger Snaps, by way of demonstrating that the ginger snaps therein would be somewhat softened. They were, and this flavor was a home run! Creamy, delicious and complex, the pumpkin ice cream is seasoned perfectly and the sweet ginger snap pieces offer a taste that's a perfect compliment. I bought a pint of the stuff to take with me, froze it for a while, and insinuated a little good Bourbon into it and topped the mess with whipped cream and raisins. I ate the whole pint this way (bestest buddy got none - but he doesn't like Bourbon). This was a gustatory and buzz-driven peak experience! The girls had chocolate chip (creamy and delicious with very good chocolate bits -- not huge chips) and a soft-serve low-cal blueberry twisted with low-fat vanilla ice cream. The blueberry boasts no fat and no sugar -- but it was delicious. The vanilla was just gilding the lilly. The pumpkin and pumkin with ginger snap ice creams were of such good quality and subtle yet defined flavors that I'd serve it at the end of a high-level gourmet meal at my home. Extra props for the photo-shopped pictures of celebrities wielding ice-cream cones (Sinatra, Gandolfini and more). The other wall's covered with drawings made by local school children. Mom must've helped with the one that made us laugh out loud: "We looked at houses in Guilford and in Durham. Then we went to (Guilford) Ashley's. That was seven years ago. We're still residents of Guilford." Why no fifth star, you might ask? Because the benchmark was the now-gone Thomas Sweet in New Haven - their "sweet cream" ice cream was the best we've ever had, hands-down. By the way, Ashley's quality comes at a cost -- this is not a value-priced location. But hey, it's Guilford and they can charge what they want.

Meckey C.

Yelp
The ice cream was very delicious and fresh. The place was very nice. The outside patio is very nice as well. My problem was that there charging $6.00 for 2 scopes of ice cream. That's a rip-off for sure.
google avatar

Ronald S.

Yelp
I LIKE ASHLEY. good ice cream. i always think to myself .. mmm this is some good ice cream, but its not the best i have ever had. i will come back tomorrow and try again. i keep going back. its still good. decent brownie sunday, prices are reasonable for portion size.
google avatar

Laurie B.

Yelp
The best ice cream in Connecticut so I was told. Definitely delicious! I didn't eat any other ice cream in CT so it's hard to compare but it was authentic, homemade-tasting ice cream. I think I preferred Herrel's in MA on my east coast trip, but it might have been apples to oranges (Herrel's tasted a lot more creamy). Friendly staff, not a lot of dining area to eat, but I'd recommend stopping by Ashley's to give it a whirl if you're craving some ice cream!
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
Ashley's is one of the few things I miss about moving from the New Haven area. The Coffee Oreo ice cream is just about my favorite ice cream anywhere. A fun place and the staff is always friendly and well-trained.
google avatar

Holly L.

Yelp
To give Ashley's anything other than five stars is to be an ice cream hater. I'm not saying every flavor is five stars, but you must judge an ice cream store by its basics, and Ashley's hits the basics out of the park. I challenge anyone to find a better combo than Ashley's sweet cream and bittersweet chocolate. Perfection. We've been Ashley's fans since college and have yet to find better ice cream between NYC and Boston. If only there were an Ashley's in New York...

Rhoda P.

Yelp
Extremely small scoops served by a snotty young girl. If you want Ashley's, go to Branford or Hamden!
google avatar

Tanya M.

Yelp
Ashely's undoubtedly has the best ice cream in CT. I have yet to be disappointed with the ice cream and the flavors. The only problem is the staff. To date, I've only met one personable staff member there. Here's hoping they change their attitude! Going in there makes me uncomfortable at times due to the service. Other than that, the ice cream is outstanding!!

Addie K.

Yelp
The best hard icecream in Ct. Thick and creamy and worth every penny!! They also home-make their whip cream and hot fudge which are to die for

Grace C.

Yelp
Whenever i've gone in there i'm usually with my son . The girls all look pretty young they are very short and clipped with the worst attitudes. The ice cream is decent under-scooped and overpriced with unpleasant service. There were two nice girls working once . one with short blonde hair the other african american. The last time my son and I went in theses two girls who looked like twins both blonde one had obnoxious blue contacts in her eyes they were both very very unpleasant clearly did not want to be there. The worst thing was that the taller one with the contacts was smoking. My son and I ate in and when I got up to get napkins I saw her SMOKING! in the back. I was absolutely disgusted .The younger one was on her phone the whole time very rude. I took my son and we left immediately I will not be going back in there ever.
google avatar

Griffin P.

Yelp
An ice cream shop in a good location with plenty of choices. Ordered a waffle bowl with mint chip and coffee oreo ice cream, a flavor which i would recommend.
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came in on Tuesday may 18th around 930 pm. The girl who served us (very thin, light brown hair, wouldn't give us her name) was extremely rude and unhelpful. Rushed our service and sighed loudly and rolled her eyes when my boy asked a question about a flavor. Usually I like Ashley's but friendly service is a must, especially when you're spending as much as you do on a scoop of ice cream over there. I won't be back.

Kathleen K.

Yelp
I have had Ashley for years, it's always been my favorite but within a year the ice cream is not the same.seems like there using a different brand.
google avatar

Jim R.

Yelp
Good icecream and service, however the portion sizes are quite small and it is way overpriced. But who cares? Ashleys is a classic connecticut attraction.

S G.

Yelp
Deeeeelicious ice cream! A small sundae was way more ice cream than I could handle. HOWEVER, what I really came to review was the service. I have just read that others have this same complaint...........the employees were all OBVIOUSLY high schoolers without supervision. The conversation behind the counter was: 1) Nobody knew how to make whipped cream and they were almost out. 2) Nobody wanted to be there. "UGH, I do not want to be here today. Like, not at all." All the tables and chairs were occupied by friends of the employees. They had no ice cream. Just sitting there visiting. Lots of them.

Leslie M.

Yelp
Staff was rude. Worker was rolling her eyes and making dirty faces. Not sure what her name was but blonde hair and green or blue contacts in. RUDE.

Dom C.

Yelp
I frequent the Madison Ashley's. While the ice cream itself gets 5 stars, I have to give an overall rating of only 3 stars. The size of the scoops keep getting smaller & smaller. For $4.00 you get a tiny plastic cup that is only half full. I guess that's their way of keeping the price where it is. That's something Hershey has done over the years with their candy bars. I've decided to switch to Ben & Jerry's. Their ice cream is just as good & I save money.
google avatar

Dan L.

Yelp
Went here for my second dessert after dinner (and my first dessert) at The Place, across the street. My friends and I had a fun time picking out our flavors with the friendly, cheerful staff. I personally went with the Heath Bar with Heath Bar topping. The ice cream itself was thick, creamy and fresh and homemade tasting. The small was not particularly small (I probably should've gone with the child size but it makes me feel weird ordering that) and came to $5 something. So, it's not incredibly cheap, but I thought it was pretty good!

Rebecca B.

Yelp
My favorite of all ice creams, we've been loyal customers for years. This evening, though, a blonde salesgirl handed me the skimpiest "regular" size for $4 that I have ever seen. I don't mind paying for good ice cream, but I do mind it when the helpings are way too small. Ashley's, please don't be miserly!

Rebecca M.

Yelp
I recently went in a couple of days ago with my daughter. A lady, who I believe is the manager, came out to help us. I ordered a milkshake for myself. In response, she asked my daughter and I if there would be anymore milkshakes. My daughter said no and she proceeded to make my milkshake. When she was done she asked my daughter what she would like and seemed very noticeably annoyed when my daughter changed her mind and wanted a milkshake for herself. She then whispered something under her breath about the entire situation. While another younger employee checked us out for the milkshakes, which at this point both were handed to us, the older employee went into the back. After I paid the older employee very loudly said, " what the f.... that was so annoying. She better have tipped us." as the younger employee walked into the back. This experience was rather uncomfortable and completely rude. I am baffled by the management in the store. Customers should not feel like burdens. A milkshake isn't hard to make.

Lauren G.

Yelp
Best ice cream on the shoreline! A little pricey but amazing. Try the coffee Oreo with bittersweet hot fudge!
