"For as much as we all love sushi, tacos, Korean barbecue, scallop ceviche, and roasted quail, deep down we know that a good sandwich is the best kind of food in the world. When the nuclear apocalypse comes and wipes away all our tasting menus, sandwiches are what we’ll be left with. Radiant green squirrel sandwiches. Hopefully we have some time between now and then, but meanwhile, we can go to Ashmont Market & Liquor, a little corner store with a counter in the back that makes some of the best cheesesteaks and chicken parm subs in the city." - dan secatore

"Ashmont Market and Liquor is the Clark Kent of the Dorchester food scene - a seemingly innocent grocery store that hides a super power. In this case, though, that super power is that they make great sandwiches, not that they can reverse the rotation of the Earth. The sandwich thing seems more practical, really. Try the cheesesteak or the chicken parm." - Dan Secatore

Google
The fact that this liquor store has a grocery store and a deli inside was totally unbelievable. My Son would say I'm going to the corner store and I thought that’s a liquor store was just crazy. So I went in for my self and was shocked to see. The Prices are a little higher than I would like but it's all about convenience.

Working at the school nearby. Stopped by for lunch and grabbed a grilled chicken sub w/ toppings (pickles, mayo, red hots, mayo, provolone, roasted onions & peppers!) It was delectable!!! I only had time to eat one half! Delicious, not dry, and will definitely be ordering again!!!! Thanks so much!!!

Google
Dry small steak and cheese sub. Barely any cheese and steak. Costs almost 10 bucks but was very dry and bland. Avoid. They used to have good steak and cheeses there.

Google
Every member of the staff is amazing from the owner to all employees, subs are delicious and if you’re a regular and want something specific just ask and they’ll order it!

Google
Great place! Nice environment. Store is packed with everything you need. Deli sandwiches and dinners are delicious 😋

Google
Be sure to check out the amazing deli in the back!

Google
Decent store although very overpriced on many things. Deli food is great except for the incredibly rude deli staff. Be ready to be scoffed at if you ask for anything extra or try to order more than 1 sub. Great place to buy booze for fairly cheap though. All in all an OK store. Nothing Exceptional.

Google
When I'm in Dorchester this is my go to spot for a subsandwich. I prefer the old management but can deal with the new cause they added clothes 😁 not bad at all, try out a submarine sandwich and I'm sure you'll agree 👌🏾

Yelp
I love the sandwiches at Ashmont Market! I usually get the American or the Chicken Parm. They aren't the quickest subs you'll ever get, but they are the best in the area. They usually put enough meat in the sub to split into two sandwiches. The one problem I have is that I don't always get what I ordered. Most of the time if I ask for red onion, I end up with white. Once I asked for a ham and cheese and ended up with a roast beef, which was a little weird. The workers are gruff and you usually have to wait behind the 10 other regulars that are there ordering, but it's totally worth it. The store itself it great for those quick trips when you've forgotten something. They have a great Irish food selection and most of the other necessities.

Yelp
if your looking for a place to buy a sandwich, this is not it. toasting the bread on a sandwich is too much work for them .that includes on the hot sandwiches also.

Petra K.

Yelp
They have a pretty decent selection of beer and wine and grocery store phone just about everything. They now carry Irish foods also. They also have a Deli & make subs/sandwiches etc Their subs never disappoint!

Kyle S.

Yelp
I haven't been there for a while and I'm glad they seem to have fixed the blinding overhead lights.

Yelp
We just bought a pair of hot Italian sausages from the deli counter at this place. Not only did it smell like a dead animal when I opened the package, they have been relabeling the item for resale after no one buys it in time. I peeled the label off, because it wasn't hard to see it has multiple labels on it and it says this item was suppose to be sold by 11/22 and it was originally packaged on 11/18 . And by the picture, you can also see they did this several times...who knows when it was actually packaged. I'm contacting the health inspector tmrw. DONT buy meat from this place.

Ryan F.

Yelp
Went for the first time and giving the deli 5 stars. I asked the guys behind the counter for a recommendation on a sandwich and he said go for the steak and cheese. I was not disappointed. It was fully loaded and only $8 after tax. Made sure to tip the guy for his service and he politely thanked me. Don't know anything else about the store but I'll be back for that deli.

Laura S.

Yelp
The deli is amazing! Sandwiches are so good! I got tuna today and it was everything you'd want in a tuna sandwich. I regret not trying their deli sooner... will definitely be back and highly recommend!

Yelp
The Ashmont we discovered is a great neighborhood store with a very popular meat counter.... since we decided we wanted more steak tips for the BBQ party later, G took us here for some meat shopping. (that sounds kind of odd, meat shopping. hmm...) anyway, I was additionally impressed when I saw they carried Sailor Jerry rum too and promptly bought some. after getting our meat and rum we were off to have a party at G's. little did sabra and I realize G would have a whole truckload of drinking, swearing, r-dropping irish boys waiting for us back at his Dorchester palace.... Uh oh. Rum, meat and a backyard full of boys? Was this some sort of test? Why can't I stop sweating in this town? How much rum did I drink? To protect the innocent, the story will stop here. Those of you involved know who you are.

Yelp
I love this store. It's my neighborhood "Go To" place when I need a few items. And where I buy most of my liquor. In fact, it's the place where I bought my first case of beer (legally!) on the day I turned 21 back in the Neolithic Age of 1989. Unlike a lot of neighborhood places...they don't jack up the prices above and beyond the call of reason. And they have a very good collection of stock. They carry a lot of items imported from Ireland too. They have a decent liquor selection. And the deli at the rear makes some damn fine sammiches.

Kendra S.

Yelp
They finally gave this place a facelift after her last make-up application took place in 1952. What a difference a fresh coat of paint and a new window scheme makes! And as it sits on a busy street corner in our 'hood, glad to see the ugly duckling has turned into a lovely swan. Beyond aesthetics...Subs are reasonably priced and pretty good, too. Can't figure out the fellow who works the register, though. You ask him where you might find an item and he "No speak English!" but yet he could be selling you your winning lotto ticket -- hope he understands, "One million dollars, please" or someone might try to pull a fast one on him.

Yelp
The owners are friendly. Sometimes their father, an old Greek guy, would hang out in the aisles and insist that ouzo was the best drink ever. On this point I disagree. This place stocks a full complement of Irish food, to keep the locals happy, and the deli in the back is both good and affordable. "What the heck is 'America's Best Cheese'?" I asked the kid behind the counter, while eyeing the cheapest cheese in the display case"It's more like Dorchester' best." he answered, with a straight face. I bought a pound or two to celebrate Ashmont's greatness.

Yelp
I've been looking for the perfect steak and cheese sub since the Town Deli in Milton closed years ago (sniff). I finally found it and need never suffer through another soggy, burnt, orange, or grease-laden lump of food stuffed into a crappy roll again. Thank you for making my dreams a reality.

Dan B.

Yelp
Honestly very fortunate to be around the corner from such a nice little one-stop shop. Their steak and cheese is fantastic and they've got a surprisingly diverse alcohol selection. The owners clearly care about upkeep of the store and it shows.

Mark L.

Yelp
Local diamond in the ruff for sure. Very well stocked with the staples of modern comfort food, snacks, and the necessities that we all run out of and want to tromp to the market for. The owners/emplouyees are, um, well....just say dudes, but they help when needed and are always able to clear a line of customers out of there fairly quickly. The subs and the deli are fantastic, and kind of decadent, and if you are dieting I would suggest you run the other way. My personal favorite....a large chiken cutlet sub, with swiss and bacon!! Go and check em out!

nick d.

Yelp
Sandwich was dry, undercooked and flavorless. I'll try the cold cuts next time.

Joseph M.

Yelp
The deli in the back is a hidden jewel. Timmy makes the best steak and cheese in the city, hands down. The Greek brothers who own the place (i wont even try to write their last name for fear of butchering it) are friendly and always seem to remember you as you come in. The subs are 4.95 and are excellent. They also have Irish treats and meats as well as choice cuts of meat for good prices. Call ahead during the lunchtime hours, since they are always busy. As for the store?? Not too sure, i have bought a handful of adult beverages there, but the selection isnt great, just the usual. Other than that...I dont know.

Alexis L.

Yelp
This place is owned by my ex's dad and his brothers..He keeps it well stocked and has a good selection. They also have an awesome deli...everything is prepared in a clean manner.

Bill B.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood store! They have everything you could possibly need... Could definitely do without the additude behind the deli counter though. It's just a sandwich dude, relax.

Kerry D.

Yelp
A great place to buy fresh meat... the pork chops are very juicy. The steak tips are delicious, and sometimes they have my favorite rib eye steak as well. Prices are well below the supermarket and the quality is much higher. The wine and alcohol stock is impressive as well. Glad to have it in my neighborhood!

Peter M.

Yelp
Just moved to the area and this has quickly become the neighborhood shop I go to. Liquor, food, and beer are reasonably priced and they carry most things you'd go into a neighborhood market for. They need to get Bisquick though, can't find that shit anywhere within walking distance.

Joe C.

Yelp
I live nearby so I'm biased. They have a pretty good deli, good sandwiches, a pretty good assortment of groceries which cover what you'd ordinarily need to head down to Stop & Shop for. Plus it's a liquor store. Good luck trying to tell the twins apart. They're cool guys though. Good place overall, everything you need in one place.

Mark O.

Yelp
Great one stop shop for hot food, basic groceries, and alcohol. Super convenient and friendly service.

Andrew C.

Yelp
Great deli. This place has the best steak tips in the area. All of the wraps and sandwiches that I have tried have been great. The deli is clean and the food is fresh. Highly recommend giving this place a shot.

Donna M.

Yelp
I love this neighborhood market. I do not get there quite as often as I like. They have a wide selection of food for being a local shop. I love their sandwiches and deli foods are always fresh. Some friends swear they have the best steak and cheese ever. The cashier's are always nice and friendly, and you always see a familiar face. Writing all of this makes me crave for one of their sandwiches. Must make a trip soon.

Yelp
I had purchased subs from here on a number of occasions. The first few subs were better than average, and always stuffed full. However I went in there last evening, and got a Chicken Salad with tomato, and got horrifically sick . It was the sickest I have ever been after eating anything. This is disappointing because I really enjoyed all the other food I have had from there. It is highly unlikely I will chance getting a sub from there ever again. Also on more than one occasion, the fellow at the register "forgot" to clear out the previous transaction. If I hadn't been paying attention I would have been considerably overcharged.

Katie F.

Yelp
Just ordered a roast beef sub, didn't smell right or taste right! Will not be getting food from the deli again!

Patty S.

Yelp
They make the Best and I mean The Best Steak and Cheese Subs. All the places I have been to chop your steak untill it is like hamburger. This place keeps it looking like steak and they fill the sub roll. They are also very freindly. So if you want a hamburger go any other place around. If you want a steak and cheese go to Ashmont Market. The rest of the store is great also. Fresh meats and cold cuts.

Sarah B.

Yelp
The meat counter is pretty great - so much better in quality than the local Stop and Shop, and better priced too. I'm a big fan of the pork chops and beef tips.

Joseph M.

Yelp
Harry John and Peter have a good place here. But it is the deli that makes this place kick. Timmy G. make the best sandwich in Dorchester, no argument. The service is a bit rough around the edges, but judging by the line of people waiting, you will never be disappointed. Its a shame the brothers are selling. They would get 5 stars if the place were a bit cleaner. The go to sandwich is the steak bomb. Hands down the best steak and cheese in Dorchester!
