The Indian food was amazing. I tried the Chicken Masala and the Mom soup, and they were both very delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the food took some time to be served. They informed me about it in advance, and I accepted it. Honestly, the food was worth the wait.

Google
THE BEST Indian food place in Amsterdam… or even in Europe. Highly recommend, we came here for two nights during our stay here and we give it our best review, food and service here is great and the waiters are both professional and fun. DONT miss out! 😋

The food and drinks are always amazing here. It is one of my favorite Amsterdam restaurants. This was my third time here. Although the food was great, as usual, the service this time was pretty awful. It took an incredibly long time to get my main course. The server was nowhere to be found. I had to stop someone and ask for another drink while I waited. After the food finally arrived the server never even bothered to check how everything was. Thank God for the wonderful lady that refilled my water. She apologized and was super sweet. I'll go back again, because the food is that good. I'll revise my review upward to 5 stars if the service improves next time.

Google
Very delicious food, and nice atmosphere. Staff are kind and nice, one of them speaks Arabic as well. They have very good drinks, I tried lassi and it was the best I have ever had. The food was not that spicy, I could handle it. They don’t give that much of bread, i wish if they would give more. The order took very very long time, we waited almost an hour, it was really bad experience in really good restaurant. When we asked about our order the waiter gave us the order of the next table, we refused that and asked for ours.

The service was professional and the atmosphere was very pleasant. However, most of the main dishes were below average in taste and presentation. The only highlight was the appetizers, which were above average and quite enjoyable.

Google
The restaurant, which specializes in Indian and Nepalese cuisine, offers a refined dining experience with beautiful decor, excellent customer service, and a pleasant atmosphere. I had the pleasure of visiting for lunch on a Sunday, and the service was both swift and professional.

We had s stellar dining experience at Ashoka We had a canal ride just before and some of us had a heavy head due to dutch wind. We requested the hostess to change the music from beats to something soothing and to our delight they quickly changed to Nepali flute music. Its was such a beautiful experience. We started with Seekh Kabab, Chicken momos, orange juice, onion rings, Gobi65 (amazzzzing), among others which were scrumptious and cooked to perfection. For the main course, a simplistic chicken tikka curry (rick & tasty) and paneer tikka masala with bread was nice to fill in. To finish off we ordered pistachio kulfi and rasmalai (omg sooo goood). We cleaned our plates and asked for rasmalai again. If you're looking for a great dining experience with courteous and attentive service and delicious food, look no further. We can't wait to come back and enjoy another stellar meal!

Yelp
My favorite place for food in Amsterdam! Great ambiance and phenomenal Nepali and Indian food. I always recommend this place to any friends visiting the city.

Yelp
We were able to walk in on a Monday night but I'd suggest making a reservation to be safe. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and positively contributes to the vibe and ambiance. Definitely order the momo. So glad we got the mixed, shareable size so we could try them all. But we loved the lamb momos best. The garlic and cheese naan is also outstanding. The curries were also great, exactly what you'd have in mind for Indian food.

Yelp
Ambience is pretty good, well designed and well maintained. This place is very busy and that could be the reason for decline in quality of service. Orders were rushed, meaning appetizers, main course were all served at the same time after the long wait. Could be fixed by reducing capacity but providing high quality service. I was told by the server that some tables were having even further delay in getting their food served, so I was at a better place than experiencing the frustration they were. So, definitely, there is room for improvement to fix and be the best in class from all aspects! Momo skin had raw dough and they fixed it right away. The naan bread is very chewy and dry, can be way better and closer to the actual standard.

Yelp
What can I say? The food at Ashoka is absolutely fantastic. The momos are delicious, the curry is always well spiced, and the drinks are well made. It never disappoints. The Chicken Tikka and Peshwari Naan are a must if you visit. The reason for the 4 vs 5 star is the service. Even with the restaurant not being full, not one server stopped by to ask how I was doing or if I needed another drink. By the time I had ordered my drink, I had already finished my food.

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance for this trendy spot! Loved every detail of the interior from the accent lighting to the editorial menu. Like most places in Europe, expect slow service and make sure you get all your orders in at first opportunity. Some notable dishes: Papadam on the house (5/5) - thin, crisp chips that were addicting! Butter Chicken (5/5) - such a basic thing to order at an Indian restaurant but never disappoints! We asked for spicy level #3 (out of 5) and it had a pretty good kick, but not unbearable Mismas Momo (5/5) - love that the combination meat is an option Garlic Naan (5/5) - two people could probably share one full piece Lamb tandoori (3/5) - this one was spicier than expected but lacked flavor without yogurt sauce Vegetable Samoa And Biryani (both 4/5) - as good as I expected and nothing more or less Would come here again anytime.

Yelp
Delicious. 5 out of 5 stars It's an upscale Indian restaurant with fine dining look and feel. We are at 5pm and got in without a reservation. By 6pm most of the tables were filled. We started off with the mint chicken, was very flavorful. I ate the tiki masala - with a 2 spice and it was perfect. I'm glad I didn't go with a 3. Tried one in our party that got a 3 and it was pretty spicy. Tasted the Saag and it was good. Got all kinds of naan, all were delicious. One person got the Momo and it's a 5 Spicey, it was HOT but SOOOO good. He was sniffling the whole time but wanted to get an order to take home. The roti was our least fav. Our kids inhaled the food and ate their whole plate. We will be back!

Yelp
Beautiful food. Top notch Indian food. I had the kheema biryani and non-vg tandoori platter.

Yelp
As hard as it is to believe, it isn't as easy to find a good place to eat in Amsterdam. I was naive to think that I could just walk in and be seated. All good restaurants get fully booked quickly. Don't be that person and make reservations!! Now to my review. We were luckily seated (someone must have missed their reservation) We had initially wanted to eat here, but were turned away because they were fully booked- politely, of course- we walked around with no luck and ended up here again, this time the manager was nice enough to squeeze us in. We started with chef's selection appetizers. Which was very good. I had Chicken Tikka Masala, it was amazing! And the hubs had Lamb Tikka Tandoori. It was very good. We shared. I am not a lamb person , but evenI thought it was great. They do serve a big portion, so come hungry. We had a bottle of Pinot Noir, the only one in the menu, their wine selection isn't that extensive. I did like it though. Service was very good, our waiter was polite and attentive. I also liked their decor. Eclectic and cozy. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
During our trip to Amsterdam we quickly found out that most nice restaurants were completely booked. We took a change going around and after being declined every where, the manager at Ashoka took a chance, and found us a table. He saved our evening. From there, everything went smoothly. The service was friendly, the food was flavorful, spicy, and delicious. The decor doesn't scream Indian, and I think that's by design, as the place is very nicely decorated. If you like Indian food and you are in the area, give Ashoka a try, you will be glad you did.

Kalpana J.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was great. Ambiance is nice and cosy. The staff celebrated our daughter's birthday with fireworks and desserts, which was really nice. Drinks were also very good.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and authentic cuisine. Yes, you will need a reservation. The food and drinks were fabulous. We got spice level 4 out of 5 and it was spicy, but not unbearable. Loved the Chili Momo, Vegetable Samosa, Daal Makhani, and Garlic Naan. The momos were so crispy and flavorful, definitely the highlight of the meal. The service was a bit spotty. They were absolutely packed on a Wednesday night, thus the reservation. Upon entering, there is no greeting. Simply, do you have a reservation? We were minimally checked on throughout our meal and had to flag someone down to place an order for drinks, a copy of the bar menu, and the bill.

Yelp
I was on business, staying at a hotel around the corner, when I had an itch for good Indian. My local go-to went out of business during Covid, so it had been a long time since I had good Indian. The butter chicken was amazing, spiced per number, rich and delicious, as was the mattar paneer and the lamb biryani. Service at the bar was lovely waiting for order and the atmosphere is above and beyond what I have ever seen in an Indian restaurant. I went twice during the week I was in Amsterdam.

Yelp
What a surprise to find this spot with authentic Indian food just a few blocks off the tourist trap. Thoroughly enjoyed this meal but be aware that the spice level is legit. I ordered 4 out of 5 for heat and it is the real deal here. Delicious!

Yelp
Even thought this restaurant looks clean from the outside, you will be amazed at the beautiful decor on the inside! Amazing lighting and decor transports you to Nepal to enjoy your meal. I honestly want to come back for a drink in the bar area to enjoy the lovely couches in front of the fireplace!!! We sat indoors to stay clear from the smells of Amsterdam and had a lovely table next to the window. My wife and I shared a King Size non-vegetarian sampler (2 pieces of each appetizer), a salad, naan, and a main dish and it was the perfect amount of food. We selected European Spicy, level 2 (level 3 is Indian spicy) and it was good heat to cause sweat but out the flavor front and center. Non-vegetarian mixed platter (king size) - 8 King Prawn Pakhora - 8 the tail is still in the shell so remove before eating. Good spice and breading. Hot chicken wings - 9 This was really mini chicken tandoori, one of my favorites Mint chicken Tikka - 7 Good flavors and excellent cut of meat, but it was over cooked Momo - 8 Delicious ground meat mixture but the shell was a little thick. The sauce was ok but lacked flavor. Dal, Bhat Ra Kukhara Ko Masu - 9 Dal - 6 was a pretty typical dal, not any flavors to note Vegetable Curry - 10 This was a delicious mix of green beans, cauliflower, potato, and seasoning. Prefect spice level. Bhat Ra Kukhara Ko Masu - 9 Delicious chinks of chicken only slightly over cooked with a rich tomato sauce that pairs well with the Naan. Plain Naan - 10 This was crisp on one side and soft in the other, very thick and delicious! Perfectly executed. We were so happy to find this jewel on our walk from the Amsterdam Central station as it was getting late in the day. Excellent food, slightly expensive but the decor and cuisine was worth every penny!

Yelp
Excellent food, attentive staff, spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the chiefs tasting menu very much.

Yelp
Best Indian Food I've EVER HAD. Coming from London and going to Dishoom a few days before I was so happy this exceeded my expectations. The location, the decoration, the setup is VERY nice and upscale. Big surprise and not what I would expect when I enter the building. All the options were immense and tasty. The butter chicken was the best butter chicken I've eve had and will spoil me and every other place will be inferior. Hidden GEM. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
If you are looking for an expensive New York restaurant experience and all that comes with it, this is the place. It is a beautiful restaurant and the food was delicious. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
We are Nepali Americans and love Nepali food. We were on vacation and after eating out for a few days, we were craving some Nepali food. So, we went there for dinner. Atmosphere and decor is nice . But we regret our decision. Staffs aren't friendly and we didn't feel welcome. Initially not realizing that we do speak Nepali, one staff spoke to another staff in Nepali about us and asked why she didn't place us outside and brought us inside. I was immediately put off by their unprofessionalism. I would have walked out had my kids not been so hungry. Food was average. Nothing special. We had to ask multiple staffs before they finally brought us water. Some seemed confused not knowing what they were doing. Also I didn't appreciate their demeanor. There was no 1 assigned staff for our table and each time different staffs came to take order or with food. No smile, no greetings, no welcoming gestures. I am not sure if they were like that with us because they knew we were Nepali too and not white customers like the rest and can treat us with substandard customer care. Or May be their customer service is just as sloppy for everyone. Either way, it is very unfortunate. Apart from pathetic customer service, food was extremely over priced. 1 dal tadka was almost 20 euros. And yet at the time of check out they had an audacity to ask for tips! A complete rip off! We travel a lot and always look for Nepali restaurants. We strongly feel like we would rather eat at a Nepali restaurant and promote business of our fellow nepalis. But after having such a poor experience in this restaurant, I will think twice in future before doing that. Please, take our business somewhere else and find a better place to spend our hard earned money where you are treated with respect and dignity.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing! We got the 2- course special for 2. Vegetarian/non-vegetarian. So much flavor! Everything tasted fresh! Our appetizers came out quick but our main entrees came out much later than anticipated but it was worth the wait!

Yelp
Wow! Food, service and ambiance were amazing! Lots of vegetarian dishes to choose from, all the flavors were amazing.

Bill T.

Yelp
I had the tasting menu (chicken) for one. Spice level 3. My mouth is delightfully tingly. Food service and outdoor atmosphere all excellent.

Yelp
First night in Amsterdam and we were craving indian food. Wow did we luck out. Best Indian food I've ever had! We started off with the lentil soup, fried onion (batter was perfection.. sooo tasty!) also got the garlic naan and Raita. Then for entrees we got the garlic tandoori chicken... OMG. To die for! We also had Chana masala and chicken tikka masala with a side of aloo gobi. 10/10. Not only was the food the best ever but the restaurant is beautiful. Nice relaxing music playing and upscale decor with outstanding service. I would come back to Amsterdam just for this restaurant. We were served by one of the owners sons pk, he was extremely welcoming and helpful. Met one of the owners as well who came to see how we were enjoying dinner. They really have something special here. Don't miss the opportunity to come and enjoy this delicious experience. We are here for a week and this will be our last meal before we go. It's that good!!

Yelp
I just woke up and still had the flavors of Ashoka on my mind's tongue. Two of us had a great meal. The place was comfortable, with a little more room than many Amsterdam spots, eh I tend to be a bit packed. The service was fast and efficient. And the food was heavenly from starters to "couldn't eat another bite." Be warned that if you like spicy-- and I do-- this place can go hotter than the fires of hell. I ordered three out of five and it was very hot, luckily still in the enjoyment zone. One of my favorite spots.

Rachel W.

Yelp
Amazing food. The vegetable momo are so good--kind of like samosa crossed with a gyoza. Reasonable prices for Indian food. Feels upscale.

Vladimir G.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. We highly recommend it. My wife and I visited Amsterdam back in January and discovered this place by chance while walking by. There are a number of authentic Nepalese dishes on the menu. If you're not sure what to order, waiting staff are be very helpful with making suggestions and recommendations. We will definitely try to visit this place again on our next trip to Amsterdam.

Yelp
We loved this restaurant and went here twice during our stay in Amsterdam! I think it's the best Indian food we've had. We were super happy with everything we ordered. We went with our children and the staff were super friendly and accommodating. The second time we went, it was my husband's birthday and I asked if they did anything special. They didn't tell me what, just that they would take care of it. Well - they sure did! After dinner they turned the lights in the restaurant off, changed the music to this crazy happy birthday song, and then brought out an ice cream dessert with a sparkler type firecracker in it. It was super fun and we had a great time. Amsterdam in general gets a lot of complaints about service, but this restaurant is very attentive, friendly, and they want you to be happy.

Denise M.

Yelp
I loved the food, the sauces where what I expect from Indian and it was not the heavy traditional American. Ordered the lamb saag and chicken vindaloo the meat was plentiful and the sauces where truly amazing. I ordered a bottle of wine to go because the options by the glass were not to my liking. The servings are huge. I only ate half but enjoyed every over stuffed bite!

L S.

Yelp
Excellent experience. The restaurant itself is quite modern comfortable and welcoming. The food was very good, shrimp biryani well spiced with nice fresh shrimp, really fine garlic nan and a yellow Dahl. All excellent. Dining there is a pleasure, expert staff. World class Indian!

S. W.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! We popped over as it was close to our hotel and were so glad we did! We didn't have reservations, but the host said he'd find us a table- and he was able to seat us immediately. The food was delicious and fresh and the service was attentive and efficient. We will definitely come back the next time we're in Amsterdam.

Christopher H.

Yelp
Amazing Indian food. Great ambiance and great, tasty food. Highly recommend if you are in Amsterdam

Yelp
This is nowhere near high end cuisine . The menu is terribly overpriced. My husband and I ordered the 2 course meal for 2. We only received part of the appetizer course. Then we waited over 45 minutes for our next course despite asking the server numerous times why the wait was taking so long. Other customers had ordered after us and we're finishing their meal. My husband then ordered a second beer, which was poured into his glass so carelessly that it foamed almost over the top. The food finally came out and it was bland, the mixed vegetables mushy. We have had much better Nepalese and Indian cuisine in Iceland and Canada for a fraction of the price. I would not recommend this restaurant and the high reviews online are misleading. We were not offered any compensation or discount despite the horribly slow service.

Rita T.

Yelp
The food and ambience are amazing at this place. The service was spectacular and it was overall a fantastic experience. Coming from NYC, my restaurant standard is pretty high and this place exceeded my expectations. If you're craving Indian food, go!

Liv D.

Yelp
We spent an amazing evening here. The food was amazing - very tasty, and a lot of vegetarian options -, the staff was super friendly and the restaurant was cosy as well. It is a pretty big restaurant, but you're still able to eat your meal in peace. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone who likes Indian food!

Sc B.

Yelp
Coworker took me here and it is a fantastic place. Super friendly staff who want to engage and help you pick the right dinner for you. Had a Nepalese vegan dish that was perfect on the spice and flavors.

Carolyn F.

Yelp
Food was flavorful and varied, with choices from different traditions. The chicken tikka with mint appetizer was tender and tasty. Chicken korma and Himalayan lamb were both excellent; only disappointment was that the channa masala was oversalted. Service was a bit chaotic--there isn't a stable waiter for the table so we alternately got asked multiple times about the same thing or temporarily forgotten--but overall they were friendly and attentive. Nice atmosphere and convenient location. Indian wine was good! Will go back.
