A Boozy Crawl Through Hampton Beach in New Hampshire’s Seacoast Region - Eater Boston

"The Ashworth by the Sea has been in Hampton for more than a century — it’s one of the oldest hotels on Ocean Boulevard, in fact. Have a beer (or two) there, and feel like you’ve stepped back in time for half an hour or so. The best part about the Ashworth bar is that you’re bound to share a drink with folks that span several generations." - Terrence Doyle

Exceptional Stay at The Ashworth by the Sea — Thanks to Gerry! We had an incredible stay at The Ashworth in Hampton Beach! The hotel is charming, clean, and perfectly located right across from the beach ideal for soaking in those ocean views and enjoying the boardwalk vibe. What truly set our experience apart was the staff, especially Gerry at the front desk. From the moment we arrived, Gerry was welcoming, professional, and genuinely kind. He made check-in smooth, offered great local recommendations, and made sure we felt cared for every step of the way. It’s rare to find someone who takes such pride in hospitality — but Gerry does, and it shows. The room was comfortable and well-appointed, and we loved having easy access to both the beach and the restaurant bar. Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend or a getaway with friends, Ashworth offers the perfect blend of relaxation and energy. We’ll definitely be back — and we hope Gerry is still greeting guests with that same warm smile!

Had a great visit at the Ashworth. Was lucky enough to get their new Rock & Roll themed room. Very comfortable, amazing view and just fun! Look out for Furkan and Kaya to be your bartenders as they make a great cocktail and are a pleasure to converse with. Raluca did a great job with housekeeping. Can't wait to come back for another visit!

I’ve been staying at Ashworth by the Sea for an extended period, and it has truly exceeded my expectations. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable — perfect for both short and long stays. The location right by the ocean makes every day feel like a getaway, with everything you need just a short walk away. One of the highlights for me has been the food and beverage service. Michael, the Food & Beverage Manager, does an excellent job keeping everything running smoothly and with great attention to detail. Scott is always friendly and attentive up at the Rooftop Sandbar — it’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the view. And Eric at the restaurant bar provides top service with a welcoming attitude that makes every visit enjoyable. This place has truly become a home away from home. Highly recommend!

This was our first trip to Hampton Beach. My wife and I were truly pleased with the hotel’s friendly staff. Our room accommodations and view were so lovely. The area is relaxing with great food options. We will definitely be back for another long weekend.

Yuck. This place was dirty. If I didn't have my kids with me, I would have left in a heartbeat, but I didn't want to ruin their trip. I figured I could suck it up 2 nights, but every time we were back at the room I just felt so gross. The bathroom was the worst part. No fan in the bathroom, so everything was starting to get rusty water spots on it. There was some vent in the bathroom, not hooked up to anything but loaded with dust. The shower had moldy spots and a rusty drain. The caulking and "baseboards" were dirty. There was some kind of brown sticky liquid on the wall next to the mirror in the bathroom. When I swished water around the sink with my cup to clear the toothpaste that dripped, a bunch of black crap came flooding out from beneath the part that attached it to the counter 🤢. The room doesn't have carpet. At first I thought maybe it was a good thing, but yuck. It just felt sticky and sandy the whole time. I never walk around barefoot at a hotel, but usually socks are enough, however watching everyone's socks turn black as quickly as they did was nasty. The couch was stained, and there was something splattered/sprayed on the wall near the couch. It was red, so I really don't understand how it was missed. I don't normally do reviews, so I didn't even think to take pictures. Wish I did. I didn't tell management, because I had 3 young kids in tow, and just decided to suck it up for them. Don't know if/how management would have fixed the issue. The online photos of the hotel look much nicer than in person, but I guess that's pretty typical.

The hotel itself was wonderful! The room service man, Carl, was the most sweetest human ever! The only thing that was upsetting was that I was changed twice for the stay. I called the hotel to clarify and they acknowledged they caught the double charge and issued me a refund (allegedly prior to me calling) but didn’t call me to tell me this happened. I called them when I noticed it, and they told me it’s now up to my bank which I understand but felt very swept under the rug. For that reason along I’m not sure I’d stay again.

Beautiful place to stay !! Staff was very friendly and helpful! The. Breakers Restaurant ( in house) had great meals and awesome drinks! The view from our room gave us a small window view of the ocean! It felt both private and relaxing!! Definitely would book this charming place again!

Google
Ashworth by the Sea has clearly undergone recent, extensive renovations that nicely complements the long history of the hotel. Our room in particular benefitted in that it appeared to incorporate what used to be two rooms (you have to look carefully to pick that up, but the staff confirmed it), making for a roomy suite with a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean and Hampton beach. The hotel was quiet when we stayed, although in the evenings Ocean Blvd streams with vehicles equipped with the noisy, "flatulent" mufflers attempting to draw attention to the driver. Those mostly subsided by nightfall allowing good rest for the next day.||The staff were always very helpful. Gerry in particular seemed to live at Ashworth (he doesn't — I asked ☺ ) providing beach chairs, arranging housekeeping errands, performing check-in services and cheerful, general help overall. The housekeepers were quite friendly as were the restaurant and valet staff, all of whom seemed interested in making our stay enjoyable.||That a valet service was available highlights a point to be aware of. Hampton Beach is a resort area and prices reflect that. At Ashworth, valet service from late spring to early fall is NOT optional, and while tipping was optional (or manageable through the Ashworth web site), we kept cash handy. We quickly learned to expect prices in the area overall to be 1½ to 2½ times what non-resort areas would be. If you're prepared for that, the time in the area makes it worthwhile.||I was mildly disappointed that Ashworth's web site mentions a fitness room that they no longer have. That would have been handy to compensate for the need to use restaurants exclusively for lunch and dinner, since the suites don't have microwaves (they do have small fridges and coffee makers, allowing a delightful breakfast on the balcony). While Ashworth has 3 restaurants themselves, one was closed awaiting the start of the summer season and the other two were oddly only open Wednesday to Sunday. These were minor inconveniences (there are dozens of restaurants on the beach strip) but also an opportunity for Ashworth to improve an already impressive facility.||We were fortunate that we had mild summer weather even in early June, particularly since a glance at the weather patterns there in late June revealed a lot of windy, rainy weather. We had one rainy day ourselves and used it to drop by the local towns. The stay might have been rather less enjoyable without the weather encouraging beach visits. Wishing the good kind of weather for all Ashworth visitors, including us when we return.

Yelp
I stayed the weekend, and it was fine. I agree with some of the comments in that the King room pics indicate a much larger space. The sliding glass door was nearly impossible to open and shut, but managed putting all my weight into it. The freezer needs a defrost. Checking in and out was a breeze and the location was good. Staff were very kind and friendly. All in all, it wasn't bad, but for the price my expectations were higher.

Yelp
This is an old review that I had in my drafts. Thoughts and prayers. Night 1: put on 1st floor. Carpet wet. Very wet. No wifi. Bathroom and tub yellow. Smoker yellow. Bathroom has beenGarbage still filled in room from previous tenant. Woken up at 6:45 by construction work above my head, assuming from 2nd floor. Night 2: they move my room at my assistants request (thanks!) to the 3rd floor. Good news -- wood floors on the 3rd floor, so it's not multiple decade old carpet like floor 1. Bad news -- they said they moved my items.. they did not. They were not in the old or new room. Just...gone! But don't worry, you can't call the front desk because there is phones in the room. So, two nights, two room, no possessions. But the location is great.

Yelp
Please don't stay here. We were driving back from a wedding and our car blew a tire and I had to wait a day for a new tire to arrive. We stayed here as it was the only available room in the area. Now I know why. Dirty, dark, and dated does not begin to cover it. It gives off early 90s biker chic vibes. The sheets were scratchy, and the thin bath towels were too. I don't know why but it just didn't feel terribly safe. Staff was indifferent. Breakfast was fine, but not included. It was raining so the view wasn't such a big deal, but I'm sure it is nice. If you're up here to do the beach and drink without driving, you're probably fine. Maybe a bachelor party would love it.

Yelp
Not good. Got there right when Easter brunch started, the buffet was already turning cold. The food was mostly bland mush. Took over 15 minutes to just get coffee, at a breakfast place, that wasn't crowded. Even the chocolates they brought with the bill tasted rancid, like they found them leftover from 3 years ago. Avoid this place.

Yelp
My friend wanted to dance so she saw that the Ashworth music and dancing. She asked if I'd like to go. We went Friday night. First impression? Loud. Pink Flloyd blasting & a feisty bar crowd. Couldn't have a conversation because you had to yell to be heard. Suffered through a disgusting meal. How can a salad & steak tips get messed up? Tips were incinerated. Salad, old. Stayed for about 15 minutes after eating & left so we could actually speak to each other.

Yelp
March 5, 2023 I spoke three weeks ago with Me Brian White regarding a problem that happened to us at the Ashworth Hotel March 3, 2023. We arrived March 3, 2023 during a a blizzard. We settled in the room and realized there was no heat coming from the heater. The front desk supervisor came up and could not get the heater to work. He told us the repair person would be in Saturday morning, March 4. We got extra blankets but that did not keep us warm. Mr. White called me and we discussed what happened and he promised he would be sending a letter complementing one days stay at your hotel. He said it would take 5 to 10 days to get to me in the mail. We also discussed that bookings.com had not reversed the charges for March 3, crediting my card for that night stay. Mr. White mentioned in our conversation that he had sent them an email and it should straighten everything out, but as of May 3, I still have not received Mr White's letter nor has Bookings. Com credited my account. I have left numerous messages for Mr White to return my call but he hasn't done so yet. Ron Rubman

Yelp
First off, let me say the pictures are VERY misleading! This place is a run-down dump! We booked on THEIR website, for a DELUXE king, oceanfront room. When we got to our room it was in the back, it was a queen and it was filthy! Upon pulling back the sheets I discovered a bug on my pillow! There are no USB ports for phone charging, the balcony was a joke, so small that only one person could be on it! The "ballroom" was having a father-daughter dance and our room above it literally was shaking from the bass and the noise! We will never return to this place. Save your money and find another hotel on the strip for less money! We decided to cut our losses and leave!!!

Yelp
God awful don't stay here please you are better to sleep in a car or go camping. Was told we would get a ocean view and balcony and instead got a room looking over the other side of the hotel and a parking lot. The shower didn't shut all the way. I accidentally cut my self shaving so I called down to the desk, after searching online for the hotels number since they had no phone in the room and no phone number listed anywhere in the room. The person at the desk told me they didn't have bandaids even though they have two restaurants and legally you need first aid kits but okay. They brought we a wash cloth instead. Super helpful

Yelp
We stayed here last year, but I did not enjoy our stay, even though the staff was very nice and friendly it felt like the communication in between the team was not good and a lot of our request were forgotten. I had to find everything on myself, and it was not much i could found there. In total a little bit to expensive for the value.

Yelp
This is one of the nicer hotels on Hampton Beach- which isn't saying much but really wanted a good hotel & this seemed to be the nicest hotel on ocean Blvd. Everything was new in the room and we did have a partial ocean view. We stayed for 2 nights and paid a whopping $702 to be awoken every morning around 7:30 by what sounded like jack hammering! Great way to wake up on your vacation- NOT. When I mentioned it to the woman upon checkout she didn't seem to care AT ALL. LIKE NOT WHAT I would have wanted at all! I would have forfeited the partial ocean view to escape that god forsaken noise!! Aside from the horrible noises- it was a decent hotel- but would I stay again- when they didn't accommodate us regarding the "noise" issue on our vacation- No I would not!

Yelp
The location is perfect and the valet guy was great. We were in the second building and it was being remodeled but it was very run down. The room smelled moldy and was very tiny, although the bed was comfortable. The TV gets a 10 because it was huge for the room. I understand that they are remodeling but to charge us full price when we walked up stairs with half ripped up rugs and debris in places was very disappointing. Love the area but we won't be back to this place.

Enrico A.

Yelp
Too much to explain. Trust the rating. Fairly okay rooms, but the other customers who also had rooms were very unpleasant and strange.

Yelp
I had a great time here, the bed was comfortable the room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful

Yelp
We traveled out of state arriving late. Upon arrival the lady at the front desk and rude and short, providing no information. I had to pry about parking ect and received an attitude. Upon parking and entering to our room we were shocked. The room that was given and listed as "clean" was not actually clean. The room itself was dusty, with medical supplies behind the nightstand. Every object was covered in dust: tv, cabinets, baseboards ect. The mini fridge had small dead bugs and other debris leaving it unusable.. Upon entering the bathroom the toilet was covered in a film of mold. The shower was also covered in a pink film- including the shower head itself. The only clean thing about this room was the actual sheets on the bed. For the price paid on off season the room could of been up to clean standards and sanitary. We tried to contact the front desk with no answer and upon leaving no one was present to checkout or listen to our concerns. After this unpleasant stay with a dirty room we will not be returning but wanted something to be done about this.

Yelp
It is so refreshing to be welcomed and still have safety measures followed in 2020! I loved our stay at Ashworth. We found a Groupon and needed a break so a girls trip was just what we needed. The hotel itself is right on the beach. Many of the rooms have an ocean view. This historic hotel opened in 1912 is no fossil. It is well maintained and updated. There are 2 restaurants on site. We enjoyed breakfast every day at the Wharfside Cafe. Reynaldo made us an omelet fit for a queen with a delicious order of French toast. You must enjoy a nice breakfast here it's worth it. Our room was spacious and had a balcony on the ocean side. All of the staff were courteous and professional. I would definitely stay again.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Stayed here over the weekend and felt that the room was very clean and enjoyed the view from our room too.. we also felt that the staff was very friendly and for the most part welcoming. However, we were surprised to find out about all of the extra fees we had to pay after already dishing out over $400 for two nights stay. We were told we had to pay for two days worth of parking and that they had a valet service, but then came back after being gone all day Monday to being told we would have to park our own car? Not a problem but when we asked where the girl gave a rude response, as if we were supposed to know about the valet not working mondays? We also had some problems with the guests in the room next to ours, as it was midnight and they were blaring music and shouting loudly. We called front desk to inform them of the issue and they didn't seem to care. The blaring of the music and shouting lasted until about 1am which was unfair to us as we were leaving early the next day. Overall the hotel was clean and was in a fantastic location, just know that if you want to know anything you have to ask as nothing is disclosed with you..

Yelp
I didn't care much for this place. We pretty much came during off season and it was still expensive. That's fine, back it up then. I was expecting something newer or more up to date. The room at a quick glance looked cozy but everything felt dirty. My bf and I kept joking that everything was hospital-like. The toiletries were cheap and the pillows looked like it was some cotton inside one of those produce bag that you find at a grocery store. And there was that time where my cellphone fell into the cracks of the sofa and so I had to lift the cushion to retrieve it. You guys...There was half eaten crab rangoon that I'm pretty sure is just one day away from morphing into a real crab. Nasty carpet and sticky coffee table. It was a bit depressing. Pros: The view from the balcony, the TV and the valet attendant.

Julie C.

Yelp
I have stayed here several times when, I had tickets to a show at the Casino. it is the nicest place in the area but I tried to book a Thursday night in July, and $400 a night is an absolute joke for this hotel. It is Hampton beach not a resort in the Caribbean

Debbie G.

Yelp
We have been staying at Ashworth by the sea for a number of years, and while it's location is convenient, the hotel has gone to the dogs literally. We checked into our room on Monday, July 3rd, and the 1st thing I see is that the bed that we had not slept in was full of sand! So I stripped the bed shook out the sheets and remade the bed because they don't have housekeeping, and it was late afternoon and didn't want to wait for housekeeping. And they don't give you enough towels for showers. The hotel is filthy, the desk staff is nice enough, and I understand their hands are tied about what they can and can't do, but at least when you tell people the room is ready, make sure the rooms are cleaned for the next guest. Totally disgusted and will not be returning. too pricy, for what you get, which is nothing. Don't go by the pictures, they don't show the dirty rooms. Do your research and find a cleaner place. The place where I boarded my cat was cleaner this hotel.

Yelp
Make sure you know exactly what you paying for before you come to this dysfunctional run down hotel. Your better off at the holiday inn. Reception is rude and has zero knowledge of whats going on. The carpets are gross and the pool looks nothing like it does in person even the rooms are dingy! FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. Getting refund immediately.

Katie W.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed in this hotel for the price - I've been to MANY hotels all over and this was one of the most expensive stays and the most awful experience. 1. Room is dirty upon entering 2. Room wasn't even ready upon check in 3. The room smelled AWFUL of paint - I 100% believe we couldn't get into our room bc they were finishing painting. Gave me a headache the entire weekend 4. No housekeeping daily 5. Requested extra towels before we left - came back around 10pm to still no towels - had to walk down and ask because they don't even have a phone in the room to call the front desk 6. The bathroom is awful - dirty, moldy, paint all over the floor and sink - the sink leaks all over the back Extremely unpleasant experience and definitely will never be back.

Johanna K.

Yelp
Stayed one night in a room that was smaller than pictured. The bathroom was dirty with a bug and rusty spots around the shower. The restaurant was blasting very loud music and the noise continued into the night and started up again in the morning. For what you pay here, you should not have to put up with all of this. Cannot recommend this hotel.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
Very disappointed. I came here to relax and enjoy myself. I called ahead to make sure the pool was open and I figured I could swim during my stay. That was a mistake. I entered the pool area and found it quite chilly. I also tested the water and found it also to be cold. The bottom line if you're going to advertise that the pool is open, it should be usable. I will not be back.

Yelp
I have stayed here in the past and had a great experience. I expected more from the cleaning and sanitation end during this pandemic, especially for the price I paid each night. The room was not clean at all. Especially the bathroom. The sink had hair in it and the tub had dirt on the outside. The shelf where the towels were kept was dusty as was the bathroom door, like it hasn't been wiped in months. Not acceptable especially in a pandemic. The place should have been spotless. And they are not offering housekeeping during your stay There was a pile of dirty used towels outside a door across from my room that no one picked up. I would not stay here again, and not recommend staying here. I am debating on leaving early but don't want to lose my money, they have a strict no refund policy The saving grace is the staff, everyone is very nice and accommodating. That's all they have going for them. And the location is nice too.

Yelp
So a months ago I booked a two nights stay. When I booked we were under the impression with COVID-19 things were getting better. My wife and I wanted to spend our 20 year wedding anniversary. Recently states started rising again with COVID-19, NH is one of those states. With my given health of having a compromised immune system we decided I couldn't risk it. So there was an option where you could request a cancellation and they have the option not to charge the one nights cost of a room rate $296.10. However after the request they decided to be greedy and keep it and deny the one nights stay. Well enjoy the cash because I will never grace your doorway. Your apparently not a very hospitable place and I don't wanna go there after. So this is an update, after posting this review they had a change of heart after telling me no they won't refund me. Well I guess at the end of the day they did the right thing but I stand firm on never coming back. I more then likely won't return to Hampton Beach.

Sue H.

Yelp
We have stayed here many times over the years and everything was fine but this time. We checked in at the front desk and went to our room. We opened the door an there was a COUPLE IN BED and it was very upsetting to us so. Went to the front desk and the told the women who checked us in that happened and she says oh well I will give you another room and I said oh well that is awful that that happened and she said I apologize and brushed it off. What happened to the customer service there is no longer any respect for people. Very upsetting she did not care at all. Rooms are not kept as they used to be.

Barbara C.

Yelp
Black mold throughout room, musty smell . Staff is very friendly, restaurant opinions are very limited . Over wouldnt come back

Molly P.

Yelp
We (4 people) stayed for 4 nights in a two queens room. This trip was a graduation gift for the four of us, and we were super excited to get out of our small town and get to the ocean for a few days. Right off the bat, the staff were anything but friendly, and we were made to pay a ridiculous amount for valet parking, just to have the car parked literally ten feet from the main entrance. The carpeting in the hallways was filthy and noticeably stained. When we arrived in our room, it was fairly nice, but looked nothing at all like the online photos the hotel provides. The view of the ocean was great, but the balcony was barely big enough to fit two people. Our bathroom door was hung incorrectly, so it was a struggle to get it shut, and it made a horribly loud sound when opened back up. The toilet flushed like and airplane toilet and the sink leaked water out the back so anything on the counter was constantly soaked. You can hear every sound from adjacent rooms, and we were repeatedly woken up during our stay by neighboring guests. The room was obviously not cleaned super well before our arrival because there was dust everywhere, there was sand on the floor in the bathroom, and a deflated balloon was left in the room from previous guests. Online it was stated that there was wifi available. We were given the password to the wifi but the connection did not work for any of our devices. There were only two towels provided for 4 guests. There was no phone in the room to call the front desk. When we asked for more towels, the woman at the front desk acted as if it was a ridiculous request. NOT ONCE during our 4 night stay was the room cleaned. We were never given new towels, and we had to seek out one of the cleaning carts in the hallway to get more toilet paper. The floor was covered in a layer of sand our entire stay because no one came to service our room. The indoor pool that was advertised was not really heated and looked nothing like the photos online. The one night we were able to get to the pool, there were no towels available. After that, the pool was "closed for maintenance" the remainder of our stay. The reasons I am allowing this hotel 2 stars instead of just 1 star are that the location was a plus because we were able to get to the beach and the strip so easily, and the hotel restaurant had great food. Overall, don't waste your money on this place. It is far too expensive for the service we received.

Yelp
We stayed two nights July 30th - August 1st. The valet workers were awesome and took our car right away. We arrived early around 12 and they allowed us to check in. We were on the south side of the building on the third floor (307). The room had minor imperfections, but a nice king sized bed and awesome balcony! They had live music on Saturday and it was AMAZING!! We were able to watch right from the balcony and it was an amazing time! Every time I interacted with the front desk staff they were friendly and very helpful! They are currently working on parts of the building so there was some work being done as you're waking around. With that being said it did not affect our experience at all! Right across from the beach and minutes away from all the restaurants and shops! We will definitely be coming back next year and can't wait to see what they do with the building!

Yelp
Great food. Great company and Meg was an amazing and attentive bartender! Will definitely visit again soon.

Yelp
I've never purchased anything from Groupon so deciding to book our hotel from them was a little scary. I'm happy to report though everything in terms of booking worked out like it was supposed to. There were a few things I don't remember seeing in the Groupon add like the $18 per day parking fee and the $15 resort fee. I would have still booked it but it was a little surprise at check in. The hotel sits right across from the ocean. All the rooms have an ocean view which is really nice. Them rooms are decent size, the decode is nice but a little dated and the best are really comfortable. The bathroom looks like it's been remodeled recently. Here is my one complaint, and I think it's a design flaw in the ceiling, but we could hear everything the people in the room next to use were saying! When we first walked in I thought music was playing from the smoke detector but upon further inspection the sound was coming from the seam were the wall and the ceiling met. At 11:30, when the people staying next to us retuned from a night out, we heard all about it for 15 minutes. Thankfully they weren't up long so we were able to get some sleep. Overall not a bad hotel. 4 stars is too high and 3 stars is too low so it's a solid 3.5 stars.

Keaig C.

Yelp
Horribly dirty and run down. From the 1st room smelling like cigarette smoke, brown water in the sink, to the bugs in the bed it was horrible. 2nd room had black mold in the shower, dead bug on the floor, stains on the carpet and wall. Front desk person was not apologetic at all. At least the General Manager seemed to care.

Michael C.

Yelp
I called to book a room and talk about pricing. I spoke with a lady who ended up not even working the front desk. She quoted me a price of $88 plus tax minus 10% for AAA. She left out the fees and also left out that you must pay $25 in valet parking because there is no parking. I was in the room for less than 16 hours so I was looking for price over quality. But I ended up paying $142+ on a $88 room minus 10%. Also it's in the beach but off season. I get in the room and it was small but decent. Was a small balcony and that was cool but you can't smoke on it so what's the point right. So now to the main issue. The bathroom. No water pressure at all. The worst part is the bathtub was full of someone else's hair. That's so gross. If I'm paying $140 for 16 hours I expect a clean bathroom. I'm very disappointed. I'd over look the gross nasty shower hair if I paid my quoted price. But to pay almost double and still have a dirty bathroom sucks With so many places to chose from off season why the hell would I ever stay here again. P.S. it was room 112 on 10/6-10/7 That's my review.

Yelp
4.5 stars Heaven, Almost Wonderfully relaxing weekend at the Ashworth by the Sea. The front desk manager, Nicole, gave exceptional service, with a smile, Michelle, the head of housekeeping, immediately responded to a special request we had, and Sean, the Valet, was an absolute joy to talk to and couldn't have been more helpful!. The weather wasn't great, but at least it didn't rain. One big complaint? No cleaning of the rooms, making the beds, etc., because of "short staff." Well, no note left in the rooms stipulating that AND, to make it worse, NO DISCOUNT offered for the services we PAY for and could not get! Shame on the owners. BEST TIME? Going to the Sanbar rooftop to catch the 4 hour show of the Honey Bees. That are absolutely fun to listen to and Mary, the lead singer, pours her heart and soul into every song. Will see them again. FREEZING, windy night but we were glued to our seats except for when we danced .. Great recharging of batteries...

Yelp
We were looking for a basic pet friendly place to stay for two nights. The pictures looked pretty good, but.... what a filthy and poorly run place! There was nowhere to register our pet and no charge on the website given. So we put in the notes we were bringing a pet and stated that we assumed there would be no charge. We did not hear from them to the contrary and never received confirmation of the charges. Now, they are fighting a chargeback for the $80, claiming they sent me an email informing me of the charge ahead of time, which they did not. It's just the idea they would act so dishonest and be so difficult with a guest, not even the $ really. The room and hallway were old and worn, shabby even. Stained carpeting, peeling wallpaper. Very dusty lamps, grimy furniture. The pool was barely swimmable, not clear water, dim lighting and really outdated chairs, walls and lights. To get to the pool, you had to go upstairs and then downstairs, very strange and we got lost getting there. Our view from the balcony was of a construction area, huge AC units etc. They provided no hand towels, no phones, you had to text them for anything and got very late responses. They told me to come down to get the towels! Seriously, I thought that was your job! I'm in my PJs! The attached restaurant was just OK. Waitress was really nice. Location is really all they have, across the street from the beach. But there are tons of condos, too, just find one for rent. Would not recommend Ashworth, especially if you have to pay all of their in-season fees, there is just no value there, even at their bottom of the barrel rates, they will nickel and dime you to death. You'd be better off renting a cozy clean cottage. Yuck!

Yelp
Recently stayed for four nights. Two of the nights consisted of carpet replacement on our floor and right outside the door. Smell was horrible and no notification from the management staff. Speaking of staff, no one explained at check in that there was no housekeeping or what the protocols were. Upon is asking we were told to bring our dirty towels down to the front desk. I understand COVID ramifications but when paying almost $400/night one might think there would be a more efficient way of handling dirty towels. Staff at front desk seem irritated to be asked anything. And paying $25/day for a resort fee equates into $12.50 single bottles of water. Interior rooms definitely need updating. Can't beat the location.

Yelp
We arrived early and got our room and we got no towels at all and the curtains in the room don't close all the way and it's my second time I stayed here. This time I was not impressed paying $209. Not including $15.00 vacation tax and $20 fee for parking valet. The rooms are nice but wished they got rid of the dust on the bed lamp (sleeping next to it made me sneeze. Staying one night and my son thinks the only good thing was the pool.

Yelp
I I could give it a 0 stars I would. I meet some friends for dinner I was told it could be 45 minute wait. I was okay with that. 1 an hour later we got seated! With in 20 minutes they took our dink order and bought out of beverages. So we talked chit-chat while we waited.. 1 hour went by we still haven't given our order. We ended up walking out and leaving... it was the worst experience I've ever experienced.. I wouldn't stay there let alone eat dinner there again!

Yelp
My husband and I spent almost $500.00 per night for this dump, and dump is too nice of a word for this place.. it needs to be torn down.. It is disgustingly dirty, the staff is friendly but could careless about your opinion. The ONE elevator had stains on the carpet and the telephone was broken. There were beer cans in the hallway, the pool was filthy and you could not see the bottom it was so cloudy. Honestly, do not spend your money on this place, it is pitiful. Location is good, across from the beach, but the inside of the hotel is filthy and not worth $99.00 a night.

Yelp
Didn't stay here but dropped in for dinner while on vacation and it was horrible! The baked haddock was dry, the green beans were cold. The baked potato was ok, but really, how do you mess up a baked potato. The manage came to the table and asked if we wanted a free dessert, ummm, no! $81 dinner and I ended up getting Boardwalk fries because I was still hungry!

Yelp
Very disappointing. The room was tiny and run down. We had to request towels (there were none) and received no wash cloths. There was one bar of soap and the bathroom fan was full of dust. When we arrived we were told that there was painting happening and that we would see workers. The hallways were lined with hoses and it was nearly impossible to get to our room. The beautiful dining room they promote was closed for breakfast. Not even a coffee bar. Save your $300. It's not worth it. They were once one of the nicest hotels on the strip. Not any more.

Yelp
Probably the best place to stay at Hampton beach. During the off season they allow small dogs to stay as well as allow them on the beach. Clean rooms, convenient lounge and restaurant inside. Buddy had a great time.

Yelp
Albeit pricey, this place boasts some breathtaking views of the beach, fireworks and is in a prime location. I stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and had an absolute blast! The Location: In the heart of Hampton Beach. There's a car drop-off with attentive valets. I believe there's a fee but I don't think we had to pay it. Don't forget to tip. The Hotel: Great curb appeal. The lobby is very nice and seems updated. Staff are friendly. Attached is a GREAT brunch spot and on the opposite side is a bar/lounge. Upstairs, there's a rooftop deck bar and great views, plus a good-sized indoor pool right behind. The maid service was so sweet. Very nice girl. The Room: Clean. Tidy. Beautiful sliding glass door with a balcony that overlooks sun, sand and fireworks! I'd definitely try to get this room again. Final: Great place. Great views. I think it's worth the money - depending on what view you get. We totally lucked out and it gave us a great overall feel of the place. I would give it 5 stars, but it's the bar. The bar tenders are friendly. The wait staff is good. It's the general feel. It's dated. Very dated. I think they could totally knock it out of the park if they turned it into a more upbeat/renovated bar. All in all - I'll be back.

Yelp
This hotel needs some work. Pool is murky. When we went to put our leftovers in the mini fridge in our room there was someone else's leftovers. Only one person at the front desk no one to come clean out our fridge for our leftovers so they will go bad. The entire hotel smells like cigarettes really badly. Ultimately this is probably one of the oldest hotels in the areas as we are in the Ashworth side. The staff in the hotel and restaurants here definitely make the stay much more enjoyable.

Yelp
My girlfriend and i stayed here for the weekend we were on the third floor room 303 we had a small partial view of the beach from the small balcony. It was pricey $ but it was a weekend in the summer at the beach, so... They have a indoor pool which was nice to get relief from the 90 degree heat of the beach, The pool is located on the 1st floor & next to The Sandbar which is open a few hours each day. You can get food & drinks. They had a band on the weekends for happy hour - nice. We could also listen to them from our balcony. They have valet parking, you pay but you don't have to worry about parking which is tough in the summer. All the staff were friendly & helpful. We had an issue with the key card that we thought was resolved. Each time we got the one not working reactivated, the other stopped working. Not a huge deal, an annoyance. The only drawback we had was due it being in a beach are, wet people at times the carpet in most of the public ares was dingy & had a musty smell in the humidity. Might think about either deep cleaning, replacing with new carpet or even wooden flooring. All in all we would(will ) be going back next summer.

Yelp
Cons: Hotel does not look like photos. The linens smell must they need to use fabric freshener. The room smells musty. The bed is big but uncomfortable. There was a physically damage alarm clock not plugged in on night stand. Towel holder in bathroom was rusty, bathroom light in ceiling was hanging not seated. Dust on armor like it's never been cleaned. No safe in room. The elevator took for ever and they hung a sign that said sorry elevator is slow on wall. Room did not feel clean. I will not return felt like cheap motel. I did not eat at restaurant because I thought if there cleaning quality is this poor I do not trust them to cook for me. There is no usb outlets in room. Pros: the valet was good and hotel is in good location. We stayed in room 215 king with balcony.

Yelp
It's now 840pm check in time is 4pm and our room is still not ready...very inconvenient considering we are traveling! Finally got our room at 930pm. My wonderful wife had ordered a birthday cake thru them and paid for it in advance to have waiting upon arrival as it's my birthday weekend and guess what? You guessed it....they didn't even do that!

Yelp
I stayed here for three nights late June and I was 50/50. Love the lobby, and food that's connected to hotel, valet was amazing and literally the ocean view and directly across street from sand was my favorite part. Now the cons Hot water in shower turn off after few mins and either really hot or cold no comfortable temperature the three different rooms and different years I stayed I always mentioned it to front desk. Pool water tasted and smelled awful was warm only for s few hours and after 4 it's cold. Room service is literally just a vacuum and make master bed. Not new sheets, doesn't smell better even forget trash some night very nice just I have had much better room service down the street. Wi-Fi should be the fastest and best but unfortunately is as usual year after year slow and cuts on and off. Lastly no microwaves in room this is so petty for the owner to make there first rise a 1979 elevator that sounds scary as a horror movie, and carry there food to lobby to heat up food and go back up, shame on ashworth, next time I will bring my own sadly. But after all my complaining I would stay again, but would look around. And yes I did tell the front desk about these issues and they were brushed off.
