The 23 Best Restaurants In Providence - Providence - The Infatuation

"Head to this cash-only spot when you’re looking for a quick bánh mì for lunch or something to bring to nearby Roger Williams Park for a picnic. The light, crispy-but-chewy house bread that bookends the Vietnamese sandwich is worth the crumbfest, and all the filling options are great, though we’re partial to the sticky-sweet barbecue pork. Specials like brisket bánh mì pop up here and there, so keep an eye on the chef's Instagram." - grace kelly

Egg Taat

Google
Great takeout spot with solid food at a good value. Their spicy noodles and green curry are definitely standouts — flavorful, satisfying, and generous portions for the price. Just a heads-up: they are cash only, and the prices have gone up by about $3 compared to what’s listed on their website, so come prepared. Overall, a tasty and reliable option for quick, affordable Asian food.

Kevin Tenorio

Google
The quality for the price —you're basically stealing their food. This humble spot does top notch banh mi and cha gio. I recommend the regular banh mi for the most traditional flavor fest. Their baguettes are suuuuper crispy, but not in a I'm-gonna-cut-up-the-inside-of-your-mouth kind of way. Beneath the satisfying crunch is an equally satisfying pillowy soft bread, cradling all the optimal banh mi toppings along with plenty of delicious meat. I love a good banh mi. Amen.

Scott

Google
I wish I knew about this place sooner because the food is so good. Very affordable with friendly and quick service. Got a regular sandwich and egg rolls that only cost $11. Egg rolls were very crispy and the sandwich was delicious. I doubt you will find better food for the value anywhere in Providence.

K1

Google
Best cheap restaurant in providence. Cash only but I love that the savings are passed on to the customer. idk where I could get a sandwich for just $7

I believe what i know

Google
This is our first time here got a couple bahn mi sandwiches. I got the mixed and my girl got the BBQ beef ... mines was okay but hers had a lot of chewy fat meat inside the sandwich. We had a couple different drinks and they were definitely amazing though we had the coconut Frosty one with mango jellies and strawberry jelly the vegetarian spring rolls was also good

Google
Tasty sandwiches with amazing value! I got the mixed bahn mi which had their regular ham and BBQ beef. ($7.50). The sandwich was much larger than I thought, it was probably almost a foot. The ham of nice flavor and so did the beef, which was tender. I really loved the sauce/aïoli they put in it and the bread was fantastic as well. It was 90° in RI the day I got it, but the sandwich almost had a cooling effect from the vegetables and nice sauce. Friendly staff and great prices. I gotta get their pad Thai soon!

Carol Livant

Google
They owner is kind. It took them about an hour to cook our meal. The spring rolls were burnt. The Thai iced tea was extremely sweet with little tea in it. The mango and sticky rice roles were amazing. I would suggest that they ask people ordering vegetable dishes if they want it without egg. Either that or specify that they don't have vegetarian options. There is not much room to eat and it is sweltering inside. It was $33.00 for two Thai tea, two spring rolls and one pad Thai.

Ajay

Google
Amazing quality (we tried the banh mi, egg rolls and Thai iced tea) for the price point. Couple of tables so mostly takeout. Baguette was crispy and they were generous with the fillings.

Yelp
Small space that can feel overwhelming when you walk in but the food is great! The staff is patient and able to answer questions or give recommendations and it's definitely a mom and pop shop. It is cash only so be mindful of that. It is also hard to find parking right outside of the shop so you might have to park a block or so away. Service might be a little slow because they're not always at the cash register because they're on the back making the food, so please be patient and wait a little bit. Their bahn mi is so good and we always stop by when we come to Rhode Island. The mayo on their bread is unlike any other mayo because it's not heavy and it's deliciously addictive and it's homemade! The bahn mi as a whole is crispy and savory and light and you just keep eating it. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Asian Bakery is a hidden gem that never fails to impress with its incredible food and warm service. Despite its unassuming, home-in-the wall appearance, the quality and flavor of the dishes are top-notch. Our office frequently orders and the selection always hits the mark. The nam chow, banh mi's, noodles, and papaya salad are consistently delicious and satisfying. Each dish is prepared with care, bursting with flavor and fresh ingredients. The service is friendly and efficient, making every visit pleasant, just remember to bring cash!

Yelp
One of Providence's Crown Jewels. If you find yourself in South Providence, be sure to venture to Asian Bakery, right on Broad Street. It is cash only, but fear not, if unprepared there is an ATM available two stores down. I am a simp for their banh-mi and tofu with vegetables. Also incredible Thai teas. Service is always speedy, and you literally feel like you're in a movie scene when seated on a stool slurping up your meal. It is a little small, but I think that just adds to the experience.

Yelp
BEST BANH MI SANDWICHES IN RI HANDS-DOWN!! In addition to the banh mi sandwiches are their huge pork bao buns! Super juicy and filled to the max! Also, if you love spicy food please get the spicy noodles! Oh and they cater! Enjoy eaters!

Yelp
Best place in the city for banh mi. Very unassuming place, but you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I ordered beef pho to go...the portion size was just right and the hot oil and flakes added amazing flavor to the broth. Can't wait to go back and try more!

Yelp
This is my first time to this hidden gem. It's not in the nicest area of Providence but I had no issues. When I entered the store front, I was surprised how small it was inside. I looked at the wall with all the pictures of there dishes and after my wife telling me what to get that's what I did. They only take cash, so I'm glad she had reminded me earlier in the afternoon. It's a small family business, Their daughter behind the counter and it looked like the father and mother prepared all the food. My wife has been telling me for the last few weeks about this place. So I got done with work a little early and went by. I ordered the spring rolls, they were excellent. Fried to perfection and they were packed with flavor. Then I got the nime chow, they as well were very tasty, the sauce was good but my wife and I like a thicker peanut sauce. I also got a couple of B.B.Q. Pork Bahn Mi sandwiches. These were very good. My only criticism is they could've definitely used more pork on the sandwich everything else, the vegetables were plentiful. Great taste for sure! I also order the Chicken and Tofu Pad Thai. When I opened the container it looked a little on the dry side. But once I mixed everything together it was delicious. All in, we will definitely be back in the near future.

Yelp
Went AGAIN a few days ago, for a visit, I got the usual Tofu Bahn Mi, no mayo, making it vegan. It's SO GOOD. I also got a frozen bubble tea, it was coffee + mocha flavored. They were out of boba pearls that day but I was offered many different selections of add-ins & landed on brown sugar pearls. .... Drink was AMAZING!!!! Definitely the best drink I've tried there. My partner ordered the teriyaki chicken Bahn mi, & his usual Thai iced tea w/ half & half.... Goodness we love this place. He was also so happy w/his order! Service is awesome and welcoming like usual! I love coming here! Thank you as always! This place is family owned and you can tell they really care!

Yelp
Great bahn mi sandwiches!! Lot of sauce and flavor. My top bahn mi spot in Providence. Family owned and you can tell it's a well-run business that's been in place for many years. Their pork buns are also great, really large and can easily be stored for lunches - but the person who does those is out on vacation right now :( Thai tea/bubble tea is not as great though - go somewhere else for that. Several inconveniences though including difficulty parking and cash only establishment.

Yelp
Another great takeout from Asian Bakery. Hubby was in the mood for something really spicy so I ordered him the drunken noodles with chicken, extra extra spicy. WOAH! It was perfect for him, too spicy for me. I ordered my favorite, nim chow. As always, fresh & fabulous! Gotta get myself a banh mi the next time. The dude was making a bunch for a group order and they were so beautiful that it made my mouth water! Everything is made to order, so call ahead to have it ready for pick up when you arrive. Don't forget: cash only.

Yelp
I don't want to be weird... though when it comes to Asian bakery and fast food I simply can no longer contain my weird. There isn't a single word that could possibly encompass the goodness that is Asian bakery and fast food. The word "wow" does come to mind, though. I'm a god tier Asian food eater and I approve. Big time.

Adam S.

Yelp
Whenever I am in Providence Asian Bakery is on my must eat list! Thank you for never disappointing.

Yelp
Asian Bakery & fast food is a small restaurant on the busy Broad Street. It is cash only. Inside there are a few tables for 2 people, but it is mostly a take out restaurant. I came here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. There were a group of students and a few people waiting for their orders. For main dishes, you can order Banh Mi, Curry and Rice, Pho, Stir-fried noodles, or fried rice. We placed our order and did not wait too long for the food to be ready. We ordered the BBQ Pork Banh Mi, BBQ Beef Banh Mi, and an order of spring rolls. Our total was $18.31. The Banh Mis were with cucumber, carrot, radish, onion, cilantro, and mayo with sweet and sour sauce. We made it spicy by having jalapeno added. The buns for the banh mi were fresh and not hard. Everything in the banh mi was delicious. The sauce also helped with keeping the banh mi flavored. I definitely cannot wait to come back and try their other dishes.

Yelp
This unassuming hole in the wall restaurant is the favorite of many people I know....the Bahn Mis are famous as well as their Asian fare. This last time I asked the guy at the counter if he could make me a shrimp fried rice, instead of the Thai Fried rice or Pineapple fried rice on the menu. He said yes. Very good tasting food in here. Cash only.
google avatar

J D.

Yelp
Still very good food! I called in my food and it was ready really fast. I got the regular sandwich and two steamed buns. All very delicious. Only wish I had more!
google avatar

Yelp
Hole in the wall, cash only Vietnamese spot on Broad Street that's easy to overlook if you haven't heard the hype. Many say it's the best place to get a bahn mi in Providence, and after trying it I have to agree. It's pretty small, not the best place to dine in, but easy enough to stop by for takeout. Prices are great as well, as they often are at cash only restaurants. Definitely a place to try if you're looking for a delicious and cheap bahn mi!
google avatar

Madi G.

Yelp
If I lived in/around Providence this spot would undoubtedly be in my weekly rotation. The portions were so generous and the prices were unbeatable. We wanted a lighter lunch so we split a chicken satay bahn mi and tofu nham chow with peanut sauce (bahn mi regretfully not pictured). The flavors were on par with what you'd expect of fantastic fast/casual Vietnamese food. Fresh, bright and comforting. You can tell they put a lot of integrity into making their food this delicious. The customer service makes this place six star worthy as the person behind the counter was nothing but an absolute charm. They gave us recommendations of other local gems + hole in the wall places to check out and were overall just super friendly.
google avatar

Yelitza C.

Yelp
Looking for a quick bite? Try this cash-only spot. They make tasty bánh mì sandwiches you can grab for lunch or take to a picnic. The bread they use is light, crispy, and chewy - really good! They have lots of filling options, but I love the BBQ Beef option. My other fav is the Pad Z Eiw Noodle with beef, the wonderful mix of flavors explode in your mouth. Definitely give them a try!
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic South East Asian food! Family owned and run. Cash only. Not in the best area but that's how you know it's the real deal. We were driving through and was craving bahn mi and so happy to discover this place! Ordered the papaya salad too and it's legit. They use anchovies and it was dark and smelled so good. When I say good, it's the real deal anchovy goodness. If you like Thai American papaya salad this ain't for you but if you are from South East Asia, you know what real papaya salad should taste like. Looking forward to trying the other menu options and sharing more of what they have to offer. Stay tuned! Highly recommend!

Yelp
A few weeks ago, I went back to Asian Bakery to try their pad thai. Man, oh, man was it good! Peanuty with scallion and bean sprout yumminess. Chicken and tofu are standard, but I bet you could ask for it with various protein options. It was so good, I got a craving for it a week later, so... Yup. That pad thai is _very_very_good_. I'm going to go so far as to say that it is the ***best pad thai in Providence***!?! I've tried all the thai places that I know of, and this one comes out on top. I was speaking with another patron about food and pad thai in particular while we waited for our orders. She wasn't a fan of overly sweet pad thai, so I was on the lookout for that with my latest order. It is a bit sweet, but not sticky candy sweet. I might prefer it with a little more tamarind flavor and a little less sweetness, if I was being super picky. And a few sprigs of celantro and a slice of lime would make it nearly perfect for me. But rest assured, the Asian Bakery & Fast Food knows how to prepare pad thai!

Yelp
One of the hidden gems of Providence and one of the better banh mi's I've ever had in the US. Believe the hype. I always get the number 8 since you get the traditional toppings like pate, etc, but you also get their bbq pork which is really tasty too (tender and nicely marinated) for a little twist. The peanut sauce that they put on it really puts it over the edge. I also always throw in a vietnamese iced coffee which is made with robusta beans and condensed milk. Incredible value for all the food you can get here but its cash only. Love supporting the people who run this place and I always leave a nice tip to say thanks. I just love that they are bringing authentic deliciousness to the community, which seems to appreciate it too. Always an eclectic cast of characters in there brought together by the great cheap food, which you love to see.
google avatar

S Nicole M.

Yelp
Hands down the best banh mi around. I always go for the bbq beef that's served on an appropriately soft but insanely crunchy roll. I'm not an exceptionally patient person when waiting to eat goodies I've just picked up so be prepared for this sammie to make your lap (and your car interior) a delicious, crumby disaster if you eat it in the car on the way home. The veggies are fresh and the bbq is tender and generously portioned. On to the unsung hero. The spicy noodles. Have you ever wondered what the taste of "umami" is? Grab an order of this dish and no words are needed. It's a symphony of smoky, spicy, savory and sweet flavors. The portion is HUGE and I love them hot but they're also great cold. The parking here is on-street only and they accept only cash. You will definitely encounter the local folks that congregate along the street here. Be smart and you'll be fine (in other words refrain from later evening and don't trot along with your cash hanging out of your fancy purse). There is seating inside but it's not super comfy and very much a place for take out. Service is friendly and they take their time preparing your food. It's inexpensive so you'll eat a feast for way under $10 a person with leftovers for breakfast.
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service. Several catering tray orders came out during our wait and looked like a fantastic option for the future. The bahn mi bread was toasted to perfection and the fillings were fresh. The noodle dishes were flavorful. Only downside is cash only. Limited seating so mostly a takeout place, but some regulars were enjoying long conversations over coffee. Waiting for an office party to come up so I can order a huge noodle tray for work!
google avatar

Maey P.

Yelp
Obsessed with Asian Bakery. Pad Thai, spicy wings, and nam chow are my go to's. They also do catering which is always a crowd pleaser.
google avatar

Eric F.

Yelp
This place is a little gem. Delicious food and friendly staff. We had the beef teriyaki bahn mi, spicy noodles, pad Thai, and a ham chow. Everything was wonderful.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
How'd I sleep on this place the last 8 years?! Don't let the location fool you... in the hood but food was great. Reminded me of what I had in Bangkok. It's got a pretty multicultural menu with Thai and Vietnamese dishes as well as boba tea. I got papaya salad (spicy/Thai hot), nam chow, spicy noodles and a Thai iced tea. Papaya salad had great flavor and heat! The spicy noodles were not spicy but had very savory delicious flavor. $23 for all and I will definitely get 3 meals out of it. Highly recommend.

Joe H.

Yelp
Got sandwiches from here for our staff. These guys crush it every time- no doubt. Nam Chow delivers. Great service. Get the sandwiches spicy. No pics because we ate it all super quick.
google avatar

Elizabeth T.

Yelp
The Vietnamese coffee here is probably one of the best coffees I've ever had and that says a lot. Not sure what they do but it's a very balance coffee. Sometimes Viet coffee can taste burnt & bitter, but this is by far my favorite Viet coffee. They also give you an XL cup, which I've never seen a size this big for Viet coffee ever.
google avatar

Samantha K.

Yelp
This restaurant feels like a hidden gem. I got seafood pho and my fiancé got bbq pork banh mi. We shared steamed buns and crab rangoons. Every single thing was perfect. I tried my fiancé's banh mi and it was, hands down, the best I've had. My pho was well-seasoned and all the add-ins were fresh and yummy. The crab rangoons were crabby and flavorful, unlike what your average Asian restaurant will have, and some of the best I've ever had. The buns were incredible and the perfect mix of salty and sweet, with meat and a hard boiled egg inside. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Eri L.

Yelp
Though nondescript, Asian Bakery and Fast Food has the best banh mi in PVD, and at great prices. My favorite is their pork bbq one, which is packed with flavor and loaded with fresh vegetables. I am also a huge fan of their larb, which is the perfect balance of acidity, savory, and spiciness. Get their nime chow for an appetizer - especially great during the spring/summer for a refreshing start to your meal. The staff is always super friendly as well. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Rei M.

Yelp
Love this place. I've tried every banh mi on the menu and they've all been delicious. Hard to pick a favorite. Meat's always tasty, veggies are always fresh. Not sure where they get their rolls but they're great - very crusty on the outside while still being perfectly soft on the inside. They ask if you wanted it spicy or not and I think the only difference is that they put jalapeno slices in it. Nham chow and steamed buns are also tasty. I haven't tried any of their entrees yet but I'm sure they're great too. Mike (the guy working in the front every day) is always great and treats his customers well. Street parking only, or you can park at the Burger King across the street. Cash only. Minimal seating inside

Mark P.

Yelp
Excellent Bahn Mi! My go to place for takeout Vietnamese. Very friendly and fast service.
google avatar

Kem P.

Yelp
Suns out buns out! I mean banh mi buns! This place is legit with their banh mi selections! So many to choose from but I ended up ordering one order of the pork bbq and the beef bbq with the egg rolls as an appetizer. Holy moly! Both banh mi were so delicious! The meat was flavorful, the veggies were fresh and the star of any banh mi is the baguette! The baguette was perfect! Crispy on the outside and soft/warm in the side. The egg-rolls were also fantastic in flavors and it comes with a sweet/spicy sauce! The egg-rolls were cooked to order and they came out hot, fresh and crunchy! I kind of burnt the roof of my mouth because I was so excited to take a bite of the egg-rolls. I mean, a girl gotta eat, right? Parking can be challenging as there are only on street parking available. Here's a tip about parking. You can park in the Burger King parking lot and it's literally a 10 second walk! Seatings are limited and they take cash only! I know that I'll be coming back to try the other food on the menu because what I ordered was pretty dang tasty!
google avatar

Lana s.

Yelp
Best hot and sour soup I have ever had. It is packed so full of ingredients like tofu, mushrooms, egg, bamboo shoots that I don't even feel like I'm eating soup. It's more like a hearty meal that will fill you up. Their bahn mi is also wonderful. I usually get the spicy beef teriyaki. The bread is perfection. Crispy and flaky on the outside and chewy on the inside. They could do a little better with the amount of meat inside but the amount of veggies and cilantro kinda makes up for it. This place is cash only and mainly meant for takeout as there are just a couple of two seat tables so you may want to take that into consideration and order ahead.
google avatar

Dakota T.

Yelp
This place was fast, cheap and tasty, which is exactly what I was looking for on a pit stop in Providence! I ordered the chicken larb, spring rolls and spicy noodles. My only critique would be that there wasn't a ton of meat in the spicy noodles despite what the person working there said. None the less still a tasty bite!

Ana G.

Yelp
Best bahn mis in providence. The bread, the flavor, the price are all on point. Cash only!
google avatar

Camy C.

Yelp
Great value for the food received. We got an assortment of stuff - spicy chicken noodle, chicken teriyaki banh mi, pad thai, summer roll (3 full rolls), egg rolls (4 rolls) and a thai iced tea all for $35. The spicy chicken noodle was great. Large portion and has taste of cooked with large in wok. It has a good kick and the ground chicken provided enough protein for this carnivore. Only has scallions as vegetable. Wish it had some bean sprouts but for $6, it's very good. The banh mi was "ok" from my husband. The summer rolls had the skinny rice noodle instead of the thicker round noodle but it was good. The sauce was not peanut butter based but had enough vinegar and sweetness. The fried egg rolls were crispy and met expectations. Thai iced tea was refreshing. Extra sriracha type of chili was provided .. may be home made since it's a bit more liquidy than sriracha. Overall, recommend the place. It's definitely a locals' spot since the owner seems to know all of the customers who came in while I was waiting.
google avatar

Ponch GB Æ.

Yelp
this is where the sandwich king lives. this place is your golden ticket for bánh mì. if you're getting bánh mì in rhode island, but you're not at Asian Bakery & Fast Food, you goofed. if sandwiches aren't your jam, or it's just not a sandwich kind of day, the spicy noodle, papaya salad, & the larb family also deserve a ton of respect. i need to try their pho & wings soon, but i already feel like i have my go-to order locked in even though i don't get down this way as frequently as i should 6 out of 5 stars
google avatar

Yevin C.

Yelp
this place is so fire. we got beef bbq banh mi's, spring rolls, and chicken larb from here on a whim and came back not even a week later for more. the banh mi is super traditional and the bread is so crusty and delicious. the spring rolls are stuffed with shrimp and veggies not just noodles and the sauce is a little sweet for my liking but still amazing. I didn't take a pic of the chicken larb but they gave us cabbage with it to make wraps and it was absolutely delectable and packed w flavor (ask for it spicy!!!). finally this pineapple rice had to be one of my favs it had a good amount of meat, a great curry flavor with lots of veggies and nuts. 10/10 will def be coming back for more!! :))
google avatar

Park G.

Yelp
Cheap eats and great prices! The restaurant is located relatively close to the hospital and is right across from the Burger King. They don't have their own parking and is on the corner of the street. For the sandwiches, the bread is toasty on the outside and soft on the inside. I tried the barbeque pork and they prepare the filling as the order comes in so it does take a few minutes. Combined with the freshness of the veggie fillings, the sandwich hits the spot every time.

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Great food for a great price. A diamond in the rough type of place, family owned. I recommend the spicy noodles and regular or BBQ beef banh mi. This spot was my go-to lunch choice when I worked nearby. Inside is small but has a few seating for eating in. Mikey is there most days greeting you with a welcoming smile. Definitely a place worth checking out!
google avatar

Caitlin J.

Yelp
LOVE. Great tasting food, reasonable prices. The name may seem confusing, but this place does fantastic noodles, sandwiches, and bao. A colleague recently told me about this place. After some disappointing experiences with other places that had low flavor/small portions/soggy food for a high price, the food from Asian Bakery was a a welcome change. It will be on a regular rotation moving forward.
google avatar

Maurice M.

Yelp
Very good , authentic local spot in the hood. This place turns out some flavorful SE Asian food ! The spicy noodles , spring rolls and bahn mi were all AMAZING. It takes some time since the man at the counter literally makes it to order so call ahead and come in to pick up in about 20 minutes.

Eileen L.

Yelp
Got the BBQ beef sandwich. Had cilantro, carrots, pineapple jam, mayo, sweet bbq beef, and flaky crispy bread. Super yummy and filling and for $7 you can't beat the price. Owner was so nice, would recommend! Cash only
google avatar

Yelp
This small simple storefront is deceiving. If you saw it from the outside, you'd probably never walk in. I ordered three items: one small Tom Yum soup which was excellent! I will order again. One regular bahn mi sandwich (really good, fresh crispy bread, great filling) & nim chow cold vegetable roll w peanut sauce. The cold nim chow rolls was the best I have ever had and the peanut sauce was wonderful. These three items cost $17 + $4 tip. I did not order ahead and while I was waiting, I took photos of the entire menu. I will definitely come back to try their other dishes. There is a small counter in the front and a few other seats. But I suspect that 90% of their business is takeout.

Jeremy P.

Yelp
Have cash in hand. It's worth it. Price and quality A1 Been going for years and still recommend
google avatar

Vijay S.

Yelp
Very good Asian food on Broad street. Doesn't have great ambiance but the food makes up for it. It's somewhat small on the inside and most people get food to go but order ahead as it took a very long time for the food to come out. Got the Tom yum koong soup and the pad kee mow ( they ran out of the noodles for the spicy noodle dish). The soup was quite good, sweet and sour in flavor. Pad kee mow was somewhat spicy and flavorful. Also got the nimh chow which were very good. Overall good experience for authentic Asian food. Only wish the food came out faster.

Yelp
A Diamond in the rough. Great food. Great ownership. So happy I am trying not to go back tomorrow
