How to Make Your Own Jam at Home | Eater

"A Seattle-based jam company founded in 2009 whose owner, Alessandra Gordon, advises using copper and stainless-steel pots (favoring rounded shapes for even heating) to prevent burning, recommends a long-handled ladle to keep hands away from heat, and notes that an All-Clad stainless-steel saucier was used historically to cook the company’s organic jams; she also favors precise filling tools like a confectionary piston for clean seals." - Katie Abbondanza

Asian Family Market at 13200 Aurora Ave N, Suite A, Seattle, WA 98133, is a gem for anyone looking to explore a wide variety of Asian groceries and products. Here’s why I highly recommend it: The market boasts an impressive array of products from various Asian countries, including China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and more. Whether you're looking for fresh produce, specialty sauces, or unique snacks, you'll find it here. The seafood section is particularly noteworthy, offering a fresh and diverse selection. Although it's little more expensive than a typical grocery store the produce section is well-stocked with fresh and vibrant fruits and vegetables that are often hard to find in other grocery stores. From bok choy to dragon fruit, the quality and variety are exceptional. The staff are always friendly and willing to help. They are knowledgeable about the products and can offer great recommendations if you're trying something new. Their customer service truly enhances the shopping experience. The store is clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate. Aisles are clearly labeled, making it simple to find what you need. The layout is spacious, which adds to a pleasant shopping experience. There are often great deals and discounts available. It's a fantastic place to stock up on essentials without breaking the bank. Shopping here is more than just a grocery run; it's a cultural experience. The market often has unique items and seasonal products that give you a taste of different Asian cultures. Asian Family Market is a must-visit for anyone in the Seattle area looking for high-quality Asian groceries. The combination of diverse products, fresh produce, friendly staff, and reasonable prices makes it a standout choice. Happy shopping!

Google
The price is unbeatable. All kinds of fruits and food. I just can’t believe that I got some carrot juice that’s already expired. I would still probably go back, but with more caution on the good till date 🫠

Google
I do really love this place and it has long been my favorite Asian market in Seattle! I will definitely continue to shop here but I was pretty disappointed today to find most of the produce was nearly fully rotten. Some even had visible mold. I have not encountered this here in the past. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again

Google
Good price ranges for a market in Seattle. Fresh produce. Lots is varieties of Asian instant ramen. Prices are very very low considering it’s in Seattle!! I do most of my Asian grocery shopping here now because of how low it is.💗💗

Hey Bao

Google
Just grab 2 bags of all-purpose flour however can’t find date of expiration at all … One brand is Sun Right the other is Yi Feng … I also checked with 2 employees they all can’t tell neither. I don’t think the market cares about quality.

Google
I guess this market only cares if you’re an Asian or white family. My wife and I (She’s Pacific Islander and I’m black) went to this market because we were in the area. No one said hi to us. No one wanted to assist when we tried to ask for help. That’s fine. I’m used to that. The rudest part was when I went to the register. I smiled politely and said hello to the woman ringing me up. She completely ignored me. Only talked to my wife to ask her if she wanted a big and rudely throw the receipt as to not make any contact with us. Didn’t tell us the price. It was very much pay and leave energy. Never coming here again and if you are a person of color just be aware.

Google
收银员态度更差,甚至到怼客户,体验非常差 The cashier is probably the rudest cashier I ever see,no smile, never say like hello,hi,thanks that kind of stuff. She said the plastic bag is not free. So I said I don‘t need bags because I do have some in my car. She even said the plastic bag in any supermarket in America is not free…. Very funny. Maybe some bad things happens in her life. My suggestion is go take a vacation.

Google
05/28/23: it was my first time coming here and I love all the varieties of Asian food here. The market is well-maintained and clean. The staff was friendly and hospital with all customers. I enjoyed my time being here and would love to come back to buy more items in the future

Yelp
Amazing Asian market with emphasis on northern Asian ingredients. The staff is friendly. There are hardly any long lines. There are always shopping carts and rolling carts available and clean. The market itself is organized and clean. The produce is very fresh and wide variety of herbs, fruits and veggies. The meat section is vast with many cuts. The seafood section is great with live fish, and crustacean options. They will prepare your fish as well.

Yelp
This shop is less busier than the Bellevue location. It's in a big plaza along with Sprouts, Floor and Decor and HK Dimsum. Its definitely not crazy busy inside the shop.
google avatar

Yelp
Pros: this is the best northern style bao I have ever had from a supermarket. This is in contrast to the southern style chao siu bao which is a sweet roast pork filling. This is closer to the guoboli baos which are melt in mouth juicy. Nothing like this in US. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BqE8j3yoH0. This one is savory with a very slight "did I really taste this" mala from sichuan peppercorn. Comes with a contrast in texture between firm mushroom and soft pork. The longer it sits in fridge before you steam it the less pronounced the juice and contrast in flavors and texture. Chicken: odd, there are no whole chickens for sale here. They have the head on bony free range chickens for soup but they are only sold frozen. Veggies: they have some in plastic wrap forcing you to buy more than you need. Limited selection of select what you need. Have to go else where for asian veg. Ok on freshness. Average or below avg. Beef: avoid; tried to buy 1/2 a flank steak. Amigo Butcher dude said no. Kept on calling me Amigo. Go to Whole Foods where there is better service and less waste. Meat looks dyed red like all other meat. Beef part 2: they do the safeway trick by substituting choice USDA grade for select grade. Bought a NY steak to test; there is zero marbleing in there. 100% positive this is select grade. Costco doesn't sell select grade, lowest they go is choice. They add additional bright red food coloring to make it more appealing. It isn't priced cheaper. Sneaky corporate greed trick. THe dimsum place HKdimsum next door. Very funny people who work there. Hang out there. They treat Asians better if you speak Chinese there. Very funny. Very sweet mommys and aunties there. Bought an order of bao and hagao for the woman sitting in the front on the floor. Not sure if she was really hungry. Maybe looking for a companion.

Yelp
This is a nice Asian supermarket that my family has been going to regularly over the years. The facility is clean, and we always could find a wide range of groceries and food here. The staff is friendly and the checking out process has always been efficient. Parking is easy as there is a parking lot. It's good to visit here as there are a few restaurants in the same plaza, so we often eat lunch first and then shop at the supermarket.

Yelp
Seattle, you're great, but what's going on with the Asian grocery scene? While Asian Family Market has solid Chinese groceries and the essentials, I can't help but miss the sprawling wonderland of options back in LA. Seriously, LA spoiled me with eight Korean grocery stores within a 10-mile radius, each one boasting hot food bars, kimbab, and endless banchan selections. Here? No hot foods. No kimbab. Okay, fine, they've got the goods for a decent Chinese pantry, but it's not hitting the same. In short, Asian Family Market is a good stop for staples, but if you're used to the abundant Asian grocery heaven of LA, it's hard not to feel a little shortchanged.

Yelp
What a seiection! Holy moley! A whole aisle on noodles, a whole aisle on chile paste bean part chili oil, a fantastic Asian vegetable selection and the fresh ginger is epic! Juicy plump and very gingery!

Yelp
Beware in buying meat at this location. The pork was labeled as packaged as today but it smelled like ammonia when I unpacked it at home. I brought the meat back to the store for a refund and only to be refused. Don't waste your money in buying your meat here, go to local supermarket.

Yelp
This was a lovely find for me! I was going to Sprouts for the first time when I saw this place and decided to check it out! I went in knowing I need more sesame oil and noodles, but was hoping for some bean curd snacks and whatever else I could grab. Produce department was full of mostly "misses" and if I were to come back here I wouldn't even bother looking. Overall store was very clean and quite nicely organized with a great selection. The best part for me is the snacks. They actually had "bean curd snacks" right on the aisle label and I was not disappointed!! They basically had everything I can find at 99 Ranch plus a bunch of products I've never seen before. It was one of those moments I had to sit on my hands and remind myself it's not okay to buy one of everything at the same time. Just walking around the store to check their stock out I found they have a really nice selection of things across the board and it's a great Asian market to pick things up. This is super far north for me, but I can definitely see myself coming back here!
google avatar

Celina S.

Yelp
Don't expect to wait any less than 30 min when you're here. Two cashiers for the whole store so we waited in line for 45 min. The produce is pretty fresh and there is good selection but the wait is not worth it.

Loudy O.

Yelp
This place had massive of people because I think it's a weekend. I've picked some few stuffs and it was a reasonable prices not too bad. I'll go back there again if I need something from the store that I couldn't find to my regular store that I've been shopping to.

Yelp
I've been to the AFM in Bellevue many times, but this is my first time at this Seattle location. This location is also part of a mini mall with a couple of eateries out front. Even though the AFM in Bellevue had a significant remodel in recent years that greatly expanded the square footage, this one still looks bigger. The produce is better organized; I particularly like the center aisle that offers additional separation (for COVID) and additional display space for different varieties. I bought fuyu persimmons (which are in season) and baby bok choy, the latter was very good quality. This store is also roomy enough to have more bin/bait/end-cap items filled with on-sale snacks, ramen, drinks, and more. Honestly, all the things I don't need, but I enjoy checking out the temptations. LOL! Prices wise, AFM is typically more expensive than 99 Ranch, but likely cheaper than Uwajimaya. The inventory is of course different, so it depends on what you're shopping for too. I went on a Sunday, and the place was still felt reasonably roomy despite the typical extra patrons on the weekend.

Yelp
Great location and you basically can buy almost whatever Asian ingredients you might need. They also fry fish to order! Good customer service, too. What they have: sauces and condiments galore, good selection of vegetables, tofu (Chinese, Korean, and Japanese), a dry goods section, Asian snacks, seafood, meat, and many more stuff lol The cashier lines can be long during the weekends, but that's ok with me. I can use the time to check my messages hey I'm a problem solver lol I now go during the weekdays, before 5 p.m. I'm glad it's near restaurants and Pet Smart as well. It's about two doors down from a very good dimsum restaurant.

Yelp
Is got just about everything I need and more in a Chinese supermarket. Things are reasonably fresh, the store isn't overcrowded. Plenty of parking space. You can take your time to browse. Location is pretty good cuz you got an American supermarket near by to get those products. And I've been to Chinese supermarkets in NYC and in the Bay Area CA. I prefer this supermarket. This place can be confusing for non-Chinese shoppers, but the product names and signs are as informative it can be since is difficult to translate foreign products. Also, never expect Asian grocery shop staffs to be nice. They tend to be overworked and at lower wages. Is just how it is.

Yelp
Pork buns 8/10 $8.99 Scallion pancakes 8/10 $6.99 Visited a friends apartment and found a local asian market nearby! Bought some pork buns and scallion pancakes to heat up and enjoy! The pork buns were great except that they left a film and dry feeling in the mouth.

Yelp
I always go to AFM and get hot pot food! They have almost everything you need and the price is reasonable! Okay beside a spam I got for $10, I felt like I got scammed from that! This market has way more Chinese groceries compared with the one in Bellevue, the other one mostly sell Korean and Japanese.

Yelp
Unlike other markets, their service is not kid-friendly. Our kids run around in other markets a little bit as well and they never had issues. In this specific Asian family market, our kids are never allowed to visit.Because of this reason, I don't think we will ever come back again.

Yelp
This store has some decent selection of packaged foods, spices, snacks, and produce. There's also a section dedicated to housewares and kitchen gadgets. There's even a health and beauty section located in the front of the store. The items on the shelves are always faced and pulled to the front. The aisles are clean and well-lit. Now comes the not so good part. I usually only purchase spice packets, cooking utensils, and sauces from this store. I decided to check out their baked goods and pastries. I noticed a package of moldy muffins that had a date of 8/18. The muffins were over a month old and is still on the shelf. That was absolutely disgusting. I ended up abandoning my search for pastries. I did purchase some seasoning packets (after verifying the expiration date) and food gloves. I'm a little weary to try this store again. I recommend to always check the expiration dates and carefully examine any perishable items for molds.

Yelp
Fair warning: You need a minimum of 1hr at this place. Snacks, snacks, & more snacks. I think they got like a hundred style/flavor of potato chips alone We skip here while waiting for our table at Niku Niku and let me tell ya, we got "lost" in their snack aisle and can never seem to get out. How many ways can you do nuts? Roasted? Black & pepper? Wasabi? BBQ? Spiced and Seaweed? And it just keep going and going and going ... If you're planning on house parties, this is a must place to stop by to fill up your pantries ...I just can't! We were there for an hour or so. We didn't have enough time ...next time, we need a morning or an afternoon to decide how many dozen type of chips we should get and maybe have more time to decide in the candies ...and the salted eggs yolks flavored chips, nuts, candies, cookies...

Yelp
This is a good chinese market. Some of the less than steller reviews on here are pretty darn funny. First off, it's super clean. If you compare it to other comparable type Asian/Chinese grocery stores, it's like the Larry's market of Asian grocery store (if some of you can remember that far back). For younger folks, I guess you can say it's the Whole Foods of Asian markets. LOL. They do have a good selection of goods...most of the stuff you will find is Chinese. If you're looking for Japanese groceries, Uwajimaya is better. But I do like this place better than Ranch 99. It's definitely cleaner. I didn't see any prepared food but I'm guessing it's because of the whole Covid19 thing. They have steam tables but they were all clean and empty. We picked up some fresh product and nothing was rotten and my wife didn't complain about anything so that's a win. Overall, good Asian grocery store. I'm happy to see more variety in the north end. there's a nice 85 degrees type Taiwanese bakery next door and a couple other restaurants that I want to try out once we get back to some normalcy.
google avatar

Mia Z.

Yelp
I can honestly say this is the best Chinese/Asian market in Seattle. Yes better than uwajimaya and yes better than ranch 99. And I am talking about mostly Chinese, some korean and japanese items and some Vietnamese items type of market. Their have the best selection of everything and plus some. Fruits and vegetables are at such great and competitive prices. Their food is fresh and store is clean and organized. I have to mention they have great tropical fruits like fresh dragon fruits and lychee. I recommend this market to everyone who is looking for Chinese items. Of course there is also H mart (focuses on korean food) which is in downtown Seattle and outside of Seattle city limit.

Yelp
The store allowed a big non-service dog into the store. The dog wasn't well-behaved and had been sniffing, licking, and might have eaten the fresh prep food which was about 1.5 foot off the floor in the cooler section. The food included cooked bamboo and sprout that wasn't covered and exposed directly to the dog mouth. Until I went and complaint that I will report to the county, the owner asked the owner to leave but did nothing to the exposed food - even when I report that the dog had contaminated the food section. And in the owner own words, "sometimes we allow small dogs into the store" which is clearly a violation of the health code. So if you don't like sharing your food with the unknown dogs, I would suggest getting your grocery somewhere else.
google avatar

Channing C.

Yelp
This store is a maze. A literal maze. The format is very restrictive and controlled. When you walk in and get passed the food court area, you are forced to walk to the left to the produce section because that is the only way you can go. The designers took Trump's advice and built walls of wooden sectionals that block your access to anywhere. It was super annoying because I did not come there for produce and had to go through a labyrinth to get to the section I needed. The store opens up once you get through the produce section. I was able to find what I needed but you gone work for it. I usually don't shop here, but it was the closest Asian store to me and I didn't want to drive down to the 99 cent ranch market in Edmonds. I will most likely not return based on the annoying format, but the store has lots of great stuff in there.

Yelp
Pro: never been to such a big and clean asian store! So big, so clean and might even call it pretty for a grocery store. Cons: expired stuff! Holy unsafe batman. And this is way before covid. I bought many things from here without knowing that they were expired. Eve fresh noodles. Or seafood! Or finding mold in the bags! Just gross. I don't know how they keep stocking expired/old/unsafe stuff but they do. And it's not even cheap. Price is comparable to Uwajimaya which is the higher price for asian grocery store. But they don't sell expired/ old stuff. It's a risk! If you can spend time checking each item, it's probably ok. Although, I had items with expire date later and found mold inside. So!! Beware. it is very clean though. Clean and big!
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
Great variety of items for affordable prices. It's rare that I'm not able to find something that I'm looking for, they have almost everything you could need. That being said, the layout of the store is a little confusing and it can be hard to find certain things. It's also often super busy and can be overwhelming.

George M.

Yelp
Although this (Asian Food Center, Aurora Ave, Seattle, Wa, 98133) is called a farmer's market, milk, milk products like yoghurt and eggs are very expensive when compared to other stores like Target or Walmart. Green chilly is costly. Grapes are overcharged. I could see only Chinese, Korean and Japanese food items here. Why no Indian goods and produces are sold here? In short, items like milk, yoghurt, grapes, green chilly etc are overpriced. Be careful when you pay your bill. Cashier is careless and overcharge. -- George Mathew, Seattle.

Yelp
Great selection of bowls and glass food storage containers. Also, reasonable prices for desserts. Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday afternoon to buy soy sauce. We didnt feel like traveling further north to the two other large stores. The place is very clean which is surprising for an Chinese store. I do feel this place is more expensive than other asian stores though. The store is mostly stocked with Chinese goods but you could find a few items from other ethnicities. The produce here is mixed quality. Some are fresh, others a bit sad. As far as variety, I found soy sauce so that is good but there wasn't a huge selection of brands as other stores. This place is pretty crowded. There are signs telling people to keep a distance from each other but it is not really followed. I prefer other big Asian stores but asian family market is a good place to buy things when I dont feel like driving too far from home.

Yelp
One of the essential businesses in my neighborhood is a good Asian grocery store. You have access to a variety of products that are commonly used in Asian cuisine plus you also have produce and cuts of meat that are important for certain dishes. I'm glad that just 5 min from my home is the Asian Food Center. While Seattle boasts plentiful places where you can buy Asian food ingredients, this one is one of the larger locations that is local to me. This market is located in a shopping center that on a Saturday filled up with cars pretty easily. That being said, people were coming and going so waiting for a spot didn't take too long. Despite how much food they had inside, the space to move around was limited which made social distancing a little problematic. They had signs to try to remind people to stay apart and most people used a face covering appropriately but take all that into consideration when you're choosing when to come by here. Their fresh produce included greens for Korean, Chinese and Japanese dishes. Things rotate quite a bit so if you don't see what you're looking for that day, they may have at a later time. You can get all sorts of cuts of meat here for your favorite meals. I like to make tonkotsu ramen and was pleased to see that they had fresh pig's feet here. They also had all sorts of fresh ramen in the frozen aisle. If you're looking for sauce, they probably have whatever you're looking for here from Lee Kum Kee to Kikkoman. They have a great seafood aisle including a lot of live seafood. I'm pleased that there is such a store here. I haven't had a chance to explore the other Asian grocery stores around but I'm told this is one of the largest in the area. I believe there are Japanese grocery store chains and an H-mart around. Will look forward to checking those out soon!

Yelp
SECURITY GUARD MADE A GIRL CRY FOR NO REASON. I realize I came 12 min before closing but I only needed to get like 5 things. At 9:50 the security guard started ordering everyone to the cash registers in a way that made me feel like I was in trouble: "Hey! Cash register. Now." We headed to the cash register, but there were other people in line so I ran to grab one last thing and this girl did too. He ran back and yelled at us again to go to the cash register so I did, and so did the girl. She asked him if she did anything wrong, and that she was only trying to buy her groceries. At this time, there was 10 min left before closing, and people still at the cash register trying to pay. Security Guard: "if you're going to talk back we're going to deny service." Girl: "I don't understand, why are you yelling at us? I am just trying to buy groceries." SG: "if you talk back I am going to call the police. Do you want them to come here? You need to leave." *tells cashier to deny service to this girl. The girl starts to cry, as he continues to threaten to call the cops on her, yell at her, and make everyone (customers and staff) anxious. If this had happened at 10pm when they actually do close, this would be slightly less horrible. However, this was 10min before closing, the open sign was still on, and people could still come in. Sorry for the long review, but I feel bad for the girl. Pic below of the time stamp on my receipt showing 10 min left before close. This is after we stood in line for 2-3min as the SG yelled at the girl.

Yelp
This place is more stocked with dried goods, but does have produce and meats. I think the produce shows a fair amount of wear and tear on them, which had me thinking about the meats. As far as the dried and packaged goods, you'll see stuff you cant get anywhere else. It can be an adventure roaming through the aisles and looking at the assortment on the shelves. It's not for every day shopping.
google avatar

Cindy F.

Yelp
TLDR: Good variety on packaged Asian goods. Poor quality control in the freezer section. Produce is lower quality than most places. Props for having an Asian food store here. BUT, I don't recommend getting anything from the open top freezers--they don't keep anything frozen and there is condensation on the bags, not to mention the temperature was 50 degrees Fahrenheit on the thermometer. Produce isn't "picture perfect" and the bagged veggies, like the bok choy, have lots of dirt in them. Wash produce thoroughly if you buy from here.
google avatar

Yelp
If you like to cook Asian-style foods, this place is AMAZING! From the most exotic produce section I've ever seen, to pretty much any type of meat (or organ) you can imagine, to every variety of sauce and spice, to noodles of all shapes and sizes, they literally have anything you could need. And the prices are super affordable. I filled a cart with items to make pad see ew, pho, chow mein, and various rice dishes and spent only $42! There's also a variety section with Asian dishes and cookware, and a small section featuring beauty and cleaning products. Bonus points for their HUGE parking lot and helpful staff. I'll be back!

Syde V.

Yelp
In my opinion, this grocery store has poor qualities on some of their produce Bought these persimmon's yesterday.. although they were perfect on the outside and were not over ripe, once cut open, they were discolored(almost black) on the inside. The packaged eggplant and green beans I purchased were also rotten on the inside, they placed the veggies that have no defects on top of the almost wilted/rotten ones that you won't be able to see unless you open it. :( I don't think I will be going back.

R C.

Yelp
This place stinks. I mean it literally really stinks; suspect they need to clean their seafood section of the store more often. The closer you get to the seafood section of the store the worse the smell gets - essence of fetid pond water and decaying fish. Products are significantly priced higher compared with other places as well.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a very nice Chinese grocery store. Although we don't live in Shoreline, and there are closer Chinese grocery stores to our house, we still like coming here regularly. The prices of fresh produce are pretty good, you can find very good quality local and imported items. Local Jona Gold apples are only 99 cents a pound when I last visited. Generally speaking, this grocery store is also clean and easy to navigate. They carry so many products (not limited to Chinese food), so if you are preparing to cook a Asian meal, this is one stop shopping.

Emily A.

Yelp
Good addition to your Asian food grocery shopping. Good variety. My partner noted that Asian Family Market has a larger variety of Chinese food than Uwajimaya. I'm looking for dairy-free food for health reasons and they had lots of options. I love the smaller grocery carts. It's the perfect size for me being 5 feet tall. I didn't realize grocery carts could be comfortable until I went here. Also the carts are small for my over 6 foot tall partner. This amused me the most :)

I C.

Yelp
I went to Asian Food Center to pick up some essential groceries last Sunday, 3/29, and was shocked to see that the store had customers bottle-necked at the cashiers in disregard to the state mandated 6-feet safety zone due to COVID-19 which had been in effect for quite sometime. Although there was yellow tape on the floor directing customers in line to wait at a specified distance from the paying customer(s), the flow actually yielded two lines into one tight area where paying customers at the cashiers are almost at shoulder to shoulder distance. When I raised my concern with the cashier who was ringing me up, she rebutted if I had safety issues, I should just order my items online with the store's delivery service. When I asked for the store manager, she informed me that there wasn't any on-duty at the time. After I paid, I circled back into the store to ask a stocking clerk for the manager. He confirmed that there was no manager on-duty and whatever issue there was would have to wait until the next day. The lack of public safety concerns and customer service at this store will certainly not have any future business from me. I urge people to stay away from it unless you are virus-proof.

Yelp
This place just gets a huge "MEH" from me. During the summer months, fruit flies are covering most of the fruit/veggie area, it's pretty gross. I will say they have a very large selection of some hard to find veggies and fruits, but dang those flies.... yuck. I've found some of the dry goods almost or past expiration dates and prices are poorly marked, so you have to take an item to the check stand to find out the pricing. Isles near the front/cashier area are packed with items for sale, and I mean PACKED. Thankfully the carts are a tad small. FYI bring your own bags, they charge for them. Forget the customer service, it's pretty much, "I'm here, I'm ringing you up, WHAT MORE TO YOU WANT FROM ME???" Lastly.... parking sucks, it's always packed, and they let customers and employees smoke out front near the entrance, it's a 2 pack a day habit you walk through to get inside.... blech.....

Yelp
I went there to shop today. The cashier charged me for something I did not buy. It was like I paid $5.38 for 1.69lb tomato on the vine. I was not sure why there was a charged of $2.51 for roma tomato, I did not buy any roma tomato just the tomato on the vine. I know it is not a lot of money but please please next time be careful and pay attention cashiers. My fault too I did not check while I was there. Last time they forgot my crabs. Now they charged me for something I did not buy. People out there please check your receipt. Maybe it was just an honest mistake but still a dollar is a dollar especially now a days that everything is so expensive.

Yelp
Look, this is a hidden gem. Uwajimaya is nice and a fun place to buy snacks and candy and visit the book store, this place is WHERE ITS AT. If your looking for those hard to find ingredients, this place has it on lock. They have an awesome selection of frozen dumplings and boa. They have good quality meat, with every kind of cut you can image. Produce is great, some of which is really hard to find anywhere else. They always have great deals on cooking equipment, dish wear, and home appliances. I love to go in late on a weekday evening when no one else is there and just walk around for an hour and look through everything, I always find something new and awesome I missed before.

Yelp
This is the biggest Asian grocery store I've ever seen. Bigger and better than Uwajimaya by a landslide. Knocks HT Market down the street out of the park. Expect to pay higher prices at Asian Food Center. Example: A one liter of Diet Coke is $2.76. A package of 6 frozen pork bora bora siopao is just under $9. A durian is $10 per pound - ouch. When you walk into the building, there's a long, wide entryway till you reach the store that has some tables and chairs to eat your lunch. There are some neighboring restaurants and a bakery under construction, and it looks like there will be entrances to them from inside the grocery store in this entryway. The first thing you see when you reach the store is a section of dinnerware, bamboo and decor. Turn to the left and be greeted by a *huge* produce section, full of the most complete Asian produce I've ever seen. They have four kinds of eggplant - Italian, American, Chinese, Japanese. Choy sum, bitter melon, daikon, Chinese leek - every green vegetable known to Asia is here. It takes up an entire long wall. I saw durian for the first time. They had samples out of santol and other fruits. Also lychee was in several places. I note this because it is rare to find these in Seattle. The meat section was overwhelming. Holy cannoli. There's a large wall full of dried fish and meats. Then there's the frozen meat section which was the size of a QFC's entire meat department. Then there was the butcher, with huge display cases of seafood of all kinds, including large tanks of crabs and fish. I counted six butchers working with many people waiting for their choices. The aisles are impressive. At about 6' tall with items you can reach and then items stored above that, the aisles reminded me of a mini-Costco. The spices looked a bit mangled, like they had been banged around in storage in boxes for a long time. The dairy section is really small, which was surprising. It was also full of American food, also surprising. There's a small deli in the far back on the right, next to the fish tanks. I looked at what they had out, and after seeing chicken feet and pigs feet, I lost the desire to get anything there. The frozen food aisles had a lot of drinks stored above the open freezers. The cashier was great, although she didn't offer me a shopping bag. I didn't see any reuseable totes anywhere either. Hardly anyone else was shopping there on a Saturday afternoon. The prices need to change if they want to be successful. There is a large private parking lot.

Yelp
I bought peaches and oranges last night. The fruits looked good from the outside however they all tasted not fresh and look kinda rotten inside. It happened several times that the fruits were bad. I would never buy fresh produce from this food market again.

Yelp
Told myself that I wouldn't come here again after seeing all the negative reviews about rotten produce. Then again, I don't really buy produce from here. Lol. I was looking to cook pad see ew one night, and I was missing a whole bunch of sauces that the recipe needed. Asian Food Center is less than a 7 minute drive from my house, so I didn't think any harm could come from giving them another chance. Upon arriving, my friend and I were idiots. We realized that we had both forgotten our wallets at home. When we went in, we asked if they accepted Apple Pay. The cashier just kept saying "Apple Pay? Try. Try." I assumed she was unsure if they did, and meant that we could try it. They had all of the sauces I was looking for, and they even had mini versions of it! It was great because I know that I'm not going to need a huge bottle of golden mountain sauce. I was making one of those recipes that calls for 1 tbsp of every sauce, which ends up costing a lot because you're buying huge bottle of sauces that'll take you YEARS to finish. So imagine my excitement when I saw that on top of the regular size, they sold a smaller version! When we got to the register to pay, my friend and I were really embarrassed because we didn't have our cards on us, and Apple Pay wasn't working. We said that we would be back to purchase the items, but then the cashier went to another register and opened it up for us to try Apple Pay there. We thought that it would be the same result, but somehow it ended up working! We were able to pay without any further issues, and I greatly appreciated the cashier opening up another register just for us to be able to use our Apple Pay!

Yelp
Four additional visits to Asian Food Center since 3/16/15 on 6/5/15, 8/2/15, 8/31/15, and 9/12/15. Checked out various places like Seafood City, Foulee Market, Uwajimaya, Viet Wah, Hau Hau, Lam's, HT Mart - Oak Tree, 99 Ranch Market, and H Mart. For me, Asian Food Center works as my favorite go-to spot due to proximity, wide selection of items, and consistency for the past six months.

Yelp
Today I saw a non-service dog in a cart. Ewww. Imagine that your foods are in the cart that has been touched by a dog's butts before. It is so gross!!! And it also violates a health code. I wouldn't write the comment here if the store manager had handled it professionally. I told her politely that there was a non-service dog in a fresh produce section but she told me to tell a security guard myself. I can't believe this is how the manager deals with the customer's problem. Before I said anything else, I saw a security guard and told him. His response was very professional and tried to find that dog enthusiastically. At the end, he found that dog and its owners and told them to remove the dog from this store nicely. Maybe, the guard should replace the manager.

Yelp
White Guy Here. My wife is certified Asian and I've spent time in SE Asia so I have street cred. LET'S DO THIS. Captain Drew's Top 5 Tips: 5. Danger This is without a doubt the most dangerous parking lot in the Continental United States. From the patrons flying across the lanes of traffic shouting "GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!" to the Honda Odyssey minivans driving by "bumper brail", to the 2 dimensional kids jetting into the parking lot on WhatsApp. It's dangerous. You've been warned. 4. The massage I've never had I went into this massage place which looked fantastic. I asked for the massages they offer and I got a grunt and a shrug while I saw a dude getting his spine broken by an angry looking woman. I chickened out. 3. The restaurants I realize that both of these places have nothing to do with the actual market, but it's a part of the experience. I'll not kidding. You can sit in this restaurant for HOURS like it's a 90's internet cafe. It's like the staff just accepts you as a part of their decor. 2. The Critters I walked into the back one day and was like WHAAAAAAAATTTT??? It looks like they just pulled up in their boat after high seas drift netting. They've got a little bit of everything. AND IT'S ALL MOVING. You like endangered sharks? BOOM. Dolphins? BOOM. Octopi that look at you like a kitten hoping to be adopted? BOOM. I bet you just need to know the right way to ask. I'll report back on this one. 1. The Lines Have you ever waited 30 minutes in a grocery line while the checker is desperately calling a mysterious off-site manager for help? I have. Have you ever had a checker give you the legit phone number of the owners to harass them? I have. This place is legit.

Yelp
Great variety of items - well stocked. Wish they had more prepared, ready-to-eat options!

Yelp
We're in town for a convention & we stopped by to see this store because it said it had a food court - it's just little restaurants but it didn't matter - this store is super clean & they have a variety of Filipino food to choose from. I'm ecstatic because too many times I don't see an adequate representation in Asian markets. I loved their fresh fish area & the prepared food. I'm completely excited to come back when we have an actual kitchen to work with. I truly wish Florida had some areas that had places like this.
