Longtime Eastside takeout favorite balancing Chinese and Thai menus. Regulars point to Mongolian beef, hot‑and‑sour soup, and late hours; it also appears in City Pulse’s Top of the Town roundups, confirming its status as a reliable local pick.

Our family has ordered from Asian Gourmet several times, sometimes for 6-8 people, and the staff consistently gets the orders correct. They are always nice when we pick up, and have offered to help carry larger orders to the car. There are many menu options to choose from and the food is always good. The place is lot much to look at, but this is not a sit-down restaurant.

Despite a slew of negative recent reviews, I decided to give Asian Gourmet a shot. Upon entering it was obvious that this restaurant was an old school, traditional Americanized Chinese restaurant that was setup primarily for takeout. The menu was fairly extensive with fair pricing for today’s world. Some of the staff could use a bit of training in conversation with Americans as the girl taking my order was a bit short, but I think that was more of a cultural difference than her trying to be mean. My food was ready after a relatively short wait and I opted to sit at one of their few tables. I was generally satisfied with my food. The fried rice was good and the orange chicken was decent but could have had a bit better sauce. I really enjoyed my egg roll and found the crab rangoons to be bigger than what most Chinese restaurants have in the area. In the end, I felt like I had a satisfying meal at a fair price. Keep in mind that they do not really have a way to service drinks, so plan ahead if you want something to drink.

Google
Softest rice I’ve ever had so very delicious and perfect soups. Comforting food and not harsh. Just what I needed. And all the staff are very kind. I will be coming back soon. If you are in Lansing you have to stop by, seriously.

Google
Very good Chinese food. Unknowingly ordered food after they closed (Yelp had the wrong hours), and they were so accommodating and friendly. I would 100% recommend for service. As for food, it was just as great! The veggie lo mein and shrimp sweet and sour were great options. I will definitely try again when I’m back in town. Such a great customer service and reasonable prices!

Google
I was craving some Chinese food, so I decided to try out Asian Gourmet, however the recent reviews did not give a great impression on the restaurant. However, I don’t take reviews to heart especially ones that gives too extreme of ratings. I decided to give in however, and try some of the food others recommended, like the general tsos. Everyone has different tastes which could have lead to them to make reviews. I think the food is great, I had a great time here personally, I would come back again.

Google
Grease, grease and more grease. This order was inedible. I'm sorry, I wanted to post positive reviews but it was the worst food I have ever ordered. I thought of taking it back and dare them to eat it. No human should actually be exposed to that much grease. It was like it was cooked it total grease and they added a ladel of grease on top of the food after packing. Never in my life have I experienced such nasty food.

I have eaten here for years. It was Lansings best kept secret. I loved it. No more. Must be new owners and they don't know how to cook. General Tsaos chicken was like eating the soles of leather shoes. Sauce was awful. Couldn't even chew it, it was way over cooked. Egg Rolls, formerly the best in Lansing were dried out sweepings off the floor. How do you make cabbage too dry to eat? I'm baffled. Then there was the hot and Sour soup. A coagulated bowl of cornstarch liquid ( and I'm not kidding) it was full of chicken skin and feathers and had no cabbage or bamboo or any other signs of vegetables. All three of these items went in the garbage disposal. And the worst part, this is strike three. So it's my fault for going back. The old staff was kind, generous and talented. This staff is rude, doesn't know the basics about cooking and doesn't care. And yes the portions are greatly reduced this year but it doesn't really matter as you wouldn't want to eat it anyway. They should leave while they still can because it's pretty obvious no one is going there any more. Feathers and chicken skin in my soup? Really? They must think we are idiots.

Google
I'm sorry, I hate to do this, but Asian Gourmet used to be a once a week pick up situation for us for years, and everyone we knew thought they were great for that American-asian cheap comfort food. You knew what you were getting, and it always hit the spot. However, something changed in the last year (new owners or cook or something). We have tried them a couple times in the past year for "one last chance" but tonight we could not eat half of what we ordered it was so bad. Everything looks like it was just boiled, and has zero seasoning or flavor. Think all the bad things that people complain about when discussing diet hospital food for someone with a heart condition. The ordering/delivery company also didn't even notify that they had delivered, we just lucked out and happened to walk outside on the porch. It's sad, because it really was the best asian takeout in Lansing since I moved here in 2013.

Yelp
Great takeout! Me and my friends always choose Asian Gourmet when we are together and feel like ordering!

Jane F.

Yelp
It's a takeout/delivery restaurant, so ambiance is irrelevant. The food is good and the service is great!

John S.

Yelp
Fresh, authentic Chinese. Moo Shu was some of the best I've had in a while. Will definitely go back.

Jan B.

Yelp
The wait was over an hour, even though we had ordered on line. They still were taking walk in orders, when clearly it was overwhelming. But it was Christmas Day and the food was good. Favorite was Gen Tso chicken, steamed dumplings, bbq strips, and house special lo mean. Fidnt care for Hunan chicken, beef n broccoli, or egg rolls. I'd like to try again when it's not a holiday.

Yelp
Chicken wings had lots of flavor and were crispy, rice was decent. Bean curd in brown sauce had no flavor and was too soft, deep fried tastes much better. Vegetables were cooked perfectly. Egg roll was good but a bit too greasy. Not bad for take out. A million times better than Panda Express. Reasonable prices. Overall, other than the mushy tofu, highly recommend.

Andre W.

Yelp
This place appears to be under new management. The food and service is less than desirable. Lady running the counter is rude. Squid ordered was undercooked. The sweet and sour shrimp and shrimp fried rice was bland - no flavor. I will not be back. Previous owners were genuinely nice people and took care of their customers. Previously I was a customer for over 10 years.

Yelp
Asian Gourmet is the seriously underrated underdog! Although it's not the most "authentic" Chinese foods, I think they serve the Lansing area well with its Americanized Chinese cuisine. I have had delivery twice and the quoted time was accurate, even in snowy weather! It's best to call directly to the restaurant to place the order versus ordering the money-grubbing GrubHub DoorDash or Eat24. Plus you'll avoid the corporate upcharges and can tip the staff directly! Ordered the lunch specials: Mongolian beef, shrimp in lobster sauce, General Tso's chicken, crab rangoon, and chicken wings. Highly recommend the crab rangoons! I thought the chicken wings needed more time to cook, so I threw it in the toaster oven for another 5-10 minutes and it was good to go. Regular entrees such as beef, shrimp, chicken gets the job done, but it was not impressively crazy flavorful-- umami for sure. I am not a fan of their yellow-colored fried rice, it's typically on the dry side. Overall for a cheap meal under $7, it's super cheap and filling. It is basically two meals for me. Will be back for more delivery on a cold day!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of dining at Asian Gourmet last evening. In town for a conference, I was craving some good authentic Chinese food and this was the perfect place. Not a large place but I decided to dine in and witnessed a great vibe and dozens of people getting take out. My entree was hot , fresh and delicious. The staff was welcoming, nice and had great service. The portions were generous and I had enough to take back to the hotel for the following day. They kept checking on me to make sure that everything was fine. I would recommend Asian Gourmet in a heartbeat.

Yelp
I do not each much Chinese because I try to limit my sodium intake. But over the weekend, I tried Asian Gourmet, and it was good Chinese food. I gave this place 4/5 stars because if a place claims to be gourmet, there had better be something unique about the food. Since I do not eat Chinese food much at all, I walked in on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 and ordered a carryout dish of vegetable lo mein. It took about 8-10 minutes before it was ready. Once I made it back home, I ate the lo mein. The lo mein was good because everything was balanced: vegetables seemed fresh because they had that crunch; noodles were not dry or overcooked; and the sauce was savory with a slight sweetness. But as stated earlier, there was nothing unique to say this was gourmet. Although this was my first and probably sole visit here, I do recommend this place if you're a regular for Chinese take out.

Yelp
My favorite chinese takeout place in Lansing. They never miss- they're quick with pickup or delivery and everything we've had has been great (which during the lockdown, was admittedly a lot) - also they're super sweet. We've had some confusion with an order once and they gave us a ton of fortune cookies as an apology (which was completely not needed, but so sweet!)

Yelp
ZERO STARS!!!! This place was a staple for many years in the greater Lansing area. It was run by such a sweet family. The wife handled the register & taking orders, the husband prepared the food and their children assisted at the front wherever needed. They were customer friendly/focused and provided quality food. We frequented here often for over a decade. We moved recently to a different state. During a recent visit, the staff was completely different. When asked was it under new management, one of the workers (woman) rudely said, "NO!" Clearly, it's under new management & ownership. NOTHING TASTED THE SAME as the flavors we were accustomed to tasting. In fact (not stretching) - it was FLAVORLESS! Did not taste like Chinese food at all. We threw everything away. It was that bad. We will never return. I'd predict they'll be closing this business sooner rather than later unless a drastic change happens like the previous owners return with their recipes & staff.

Yelp
Egg Foo young was good, decent sized shrimp in it. The fried rice is very bland. The establishment reminds me of New York (east coast) style Chinese food. While I'm not a fan I can understand why people here like it. Better than some of the other options. However, I rather just go without Chinese whenever I'm here vs sacrifice with this.

Yelp
Dumplings, noodles, rice, and chicken! Such a good order for a Sunday spent inside. I had this food ordered for delivery and it was delivered so quickly. I am such a sucker for dumplings and these were not a disappointment. If you're looking for some fast and reliable Asian cuisine, I recommend.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much from the street, no inside seating still, but turned out to be great carry out. We got the triple treat, with lo mein. Lots of meat, very good. The spring rolls were great, the egg roll was a bit dry. Also had the chicken curry dish, really good take on curry. Will go again

Yelp
It's not your classy takeout Chinese restaurant, it's not going to knock your socks off with that esquite smack your mama flavor, but if you find Chinese food to be a comfort food, then this spot hits the spot, food is responsibly priced and well prepared and never disappoints. It's been my go to for years.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Yummy, yummy food served quick! Good, authentic Chinese cuisine. They even go the extra mile and carry food to the car.

Sally B.

Yelp
Asian Gourmet is always fresh and delicious. Vegetarian and vegan friends love it too.

Yelp
Ordered take out from here for the first time last night and it was BOMB. I highly recommend if you are looking for quality Americanized Chinese food. Got the orange chicken and general tso combos. The egg rolls are not my favorite in town but I'm still thinking about the crab rangoons a day later! So good!! I'm very particular about chicken at Chinese food places but theirs seemed high quality and it was even good reheated for leftovers.

Gigi S.

Yelp
They have the BEST food and the staff are nice! I buy the chicken lo mein and crab ragoons alot!
google avatar

Jevay G.

Yelp
I ordered delivery last night and overall it was ok. One highlight is they deliver and they were still open at 11pm. I ordered the eggplant and sweet and sour shrimp. The eggplant was cooked well, but lacked flavor. The sweet and sour shrimp was a little oily, but had great flavor. Also they cut the shrimp in half so essentially you only get like 3 shrimp.

Yelp
5 out of 5 for the quality of food! The chicken stood out as the best you can get at an Asian restaurant around here as sometimes the quality is questionable at other places. I agree with other reviewers, the crag Rangoon is absolutely delicious! The atmosphere cloud be better, the place needs some TLC but that didn't stop my bf and I from chowing down right there and it is clean, just is missing character.

Yelp
I've just moved to Lansing so had no idea where to find good food. Well, I lucked out on my first try. Asian Gourmet. They seem to use fresh ingredients, a great mix of seasonings and everything was great. I ordered steamed dumplings - perfect, springs rolls- light & crispy, and Shrimp PadThai - probably the best I've had. And it was all delivered ahead of the anticipated delivery time. I mean, I'd moved all day. I was hungry. It was a great meal and I know I'll order from Asian Gourmet again soon.

Yelp
I've tried several Asian restaurants/take-out in Lansing and have not been impressed with much, that is, until we tried Asian Gourmet! The place is not anything special, but wow, the food was very good! Hot, fresh, fast. Not super greasy or heavy. Our order was ready in under 20 minutes too. Very fast! I ordered the Chicken Chow Fun. It had delicious flavor and the chicken was very good quality (I know the meat at many of these places can be suspect, or low quality, so this was a pleasant surprise). My husband ordered Shrimp Egg Foo Young and very much liked his dish as well. As other reviews mentioned- the Crab Rangoons are excellent! I liked the egg rolls a lot too. We will definitely be ordering from here again!

Yelp
Got delivery tonight- always a pricey thing around here. That said they made it over faster than expected and the food was amazing. Tried new stuff: crispy duck (delicious sauce that has a kick to it soaked into the veggies), beef egg foo young and shrimp and chive dumplings that could go up against any dim sum I have tried in the best places I have had dim sum in CA. Last: spend over $20 and get a free pint of pork fried rice--- sooo good. Even had fresh bean sprouts.
google avatar

Shellie H.

Yelp
This was a great stop! The customer service was fantastic, food was very hot, and left satisfied and full. Will come again.
google avatar

Zoe Z.

Yelp
You may question the food by the building, at least I did. Don't let that ruin your opinion! When you stroll up the the restaurant you see the unkept interior, especially compared to the retro coffee shop a door down. I definitely would not suggest eating there, but PICKUP. This is the best Chinese pickup in the area! My go-to meal is the standard egg drop soup (delish and large), sweet and sour chicken, and fried rice. Each item is better than the next. All extremely large portions that can be saved for days. Try it!

Maario L.

Yelp
Friendly people. Would recommend to everyone. Love their customer service, especially their delivery drivers. I ordered my friend food and they were willing to come back to give it to him since he was running late. Love this place
google avatar

Jonathan D.

Yelp
Ordered the Steamed Shrimp Chives Dumplings for an appetizer and the Thai Cashew w Chicken for my entree. Both were excellent, delivery was timely, and prices were low.
google avatar

Cassidy B.

Yelp
Good food, had the Pad Thai. Employees and the woman who took my order were rude. I asked for some Curry and she told me NO with no explanation and just stared at me.
google avatar

Gail L.

Yelp
Been ordering food from here for about 2 years. I think it is consistently good. Maybe best of it's kind in area.

Alex M.

Yelp
This is one of those places where everything on the menu is great! And they are incredibly fast. I order food to work and I swear it shows up in under ten minutes sometimes !
google avatar

Bruce E.

Yelp
So this is my favorite for the most part in the Lansing area! They do a great job and are easy to get along with.
google avatar

Brandy R.

Yelp
Just tried this considering its Christmas Eve...very fast delivery! Food was all correct and very warm. A little bland but good for Americanized Asian food. Crab ragoons are Amazing! I'll try again.

Tj D.

Yelp
love the fried chicken from here along with most everything else on the menu. service is superb food is alway hot and fresh i never have an issue at Asian gourmet
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Rome wasn't built in a day, love takes time, but Chinese food delivery shouldn't take over an hour at lunchtime, especially when it's only a mile and a half away. I can forgive it once, but twice in a row? I think I'll find another place to satisfy my Kung Pao craving. (If only Jimmy John's delivered egg rolls and breaded deep fried chicken, coated in MSG-y goodness.)

Rahul S.

Yelp
This is a good takeout place with dine in facility. Don't expect restaurant ambiance. Food is good only tried crispy chicken with jalapeños. Taste 4 stars Ambiance 3 stars Parking could be difficult during rush hours

Dion F.

Yelp
We started ordering from this restaurant from work in the quest for some good food. When it got here, it was hot, and the egg rolls were crispy, and melt in your mouth delicious!! The entrees were bountiful and very flavorful. We now order from there every weekend, and our egg roll orders increase in number every order! Delivery is always fast and accurate every time! Highly, HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!!
google avatar

Yelp
Honestly this is the best Chinese takeout place in Lansing. The menu is awesome, has lots of vegan options. My partner and I love dining in here it feels like an Asian version of bobs burgers. Staff is very inviting and friendly. I've never been disappointed. Try the scallion pancakes, they are crisped to perfection.

Anna S.

Yelp
I have been going to Asian Gourmet for several years. The service is great for delivery, takeout, and dine in. The food is fresh, flavorful and well cooked. I would go there just for their dumplings .
google avatar

Kamille R.

Yelp
Asian Gourmet is pretty decent. Love their lo mein and chicken chop suey. However their crab rangoons are not good and their dumplings are atrocious. The staff is always nice though and it's decent to good cheap food.

Steff B.

Yelp
Ordered food for delivery - delivery was quick and my order was correct.... but was a fruit fly in my Pad Thai, right on top. I was completely disgusted and threw my food out.
google avatar

Ghadeer N.

Yelp
Shrimp fried rice, egg rolls, and crab rangoons we're all very delicious! And delivery was very quick, highly ewd

Yelp

google avatar

Joanna G.

Yelp
This has been the best delivery I've experienced here in Lansing. It was fast and hot and they spoke very good English!

Lane L.

Yelp
This is the worst food I've ever eaten. Had to throw it away after one bite pretty sure it was microwaved. Never been served water in a dirty plastic cup either. Honestly I'd rather dumpster dive.
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
Egg rolls and sesame chicken are amazing!!!!!!!!! Highly recommended this place for anyone looking for good fast Chinese food
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
Food is great, inexpensive, super fast, and always on time. My go to for Chinese. The General Tso's chicken is my personal favorite. But the shrimp egg rolls are pretty great too.

Sandy S.

Yelp
It very exciting to have a good Chinese place so nearby: the food is excellent with great variety, wonderful customer service whether you dine -in, carry out or have it delivered!

Scarea W.

Yelp
I was extremely disappointed in my most recent experience ordering from Asian Gourmet. For the third time I ordered 'Crispy Duck'. According to the menu on your website this dish is 'Half boneless duck deep fried on top of Chinese vegetables with chef's special home made silky red soy sauce'. However, when it arrived to my house it was coated with peanuts. Luckily I noticed what it was before eating. I have a serious peanut allergy and would have had to go to the hospital, or worse, had I taken even one bite. Upon calling I received mostly excuses. 'Sometimes the cooks must forget the peanuts', 'it's the most expensive thing on our menu so I can't just make you another one', 'I can give you 20% off next time you order this dish'. Needless to say, I don't plan on ordering it again. Not thrilled that I was also told it was too late for the delivery driver to return to my house to pick up the poison (to me) food. The only way I could get a refund or a replacement dish was to bring it back myself. Terrible customer service which is a shame because, minus the inaccurate menu descriptions, I really did enjoy your food. Sadly, I cannot patronize your business anymore.
