This restaurant has recycled it’s self so many times here in the Columbus area it was out east across from the AMC theater back in the late 90’s and they closed it down and then again around the street from the old location on Hamilton Rd in the early 2000’s and they had all women running it then and they closed that area as well but they stick to the same menu and don’t really change much but I am surprised a lot of people have not noticed this lol but this time they have been open a little longer than the other locations were but the food is always hot and ready to go but they have changed some of their meats on the menu. I wonder if it’s because they were feeding us something other than what they claimed it was. But overall Good Food.

Took myself and son for lunch as they just opened, food selection awesome, hot, and tasty. Alot to chose from, and found my favorites there as well. Never had to ask for refill the waitress was on point. Definitely will return.

Asian Star China Buffet is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys classic Asian cuisine and does not mind a buffet setting. The food is consistently delicious, with a wide variety of dishes to choose from, although the menu is pretty statis and does not change that often. The quality and flavor are always top-notch, making it a reliable go-to spot for a great meal. The restaurant itself is clean and well-maintained, which adds to the overall dining experience. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always willing to help. One thing that really stands out is how well they manage the buffet line. There’s usually someone on the floor keeping an eye on things and radioing back to the kitchen when items need to be refilled. Because of that, the food stays fresh, fully stocked, and up-to-date throughout your visit. Overall, Asian Star China Buffet delivers excellent food, great service, and a pleasant atmosphere. It’s one of the better buffets in the area and worth returning to again and again.

Google
I had to update my rating and review from last year. We went here again today. This location is definitely the best. I was thoroughly impressed with this buffet. The chicken, noodles, spinach, fish, and other dishes were great! My six year old daughter also liked this food. It's often hard finding a dish she likes. She enjoyed shrimp, fish, chicken, and macaroni and cheese.

Google
I have to admit, that they food is very tasty, plentiful, well stocked and refreshed, and the price is good. However, there is something they use in their cooking that causes me stomach distress, everytime. It is probably just me, because frankly, I like their food.

Chris C.

Google
The vibes here are immaculate. You have it all. Late 90s decor, a compact serving area filled with amazing asian and non asian food, and a super welcoming atmosphere. Want to share a meal with your extended family while facetiming a far away loved one? You can do that. Want to eat yourself silly with a picky little one in your family? You can do that. Want to loudly stream Love Island on your tablet while enjoying some teriyaki chicken without the judgement of your fellow diners? You can do that here. Would give this place a 10 out of 5 if I could.

Klaus

Google
It is ok, the selection was not too impressive. Especially Sushi was only two kinds. Many of the food items left something to be desired. For example, the yummy looking cheesecake was still frozen (and not really cheesecake). On weekends, you can do better for the money.

Google
One of the few affordable Chinese buffet in Columbus that withstand the test of time.

Yelp
Recently been here, read some reviews about it and some says not much options, like WTF are you talking about? There plenty of options to choose from. Okay, happens to be in the area, wasn't really looking for buffet, but this popped up, so I thought why not, I been hitting the Chinese buffet left and right lately, one more gonna be on my trophy wall. Walking in, saw two guys at the front desk, seem like they know everybody. Seeing you tomorrow! Hey where have you been? Haven't seen you for awhile! Is like wow, regular huh? Come here 3 times per week? lol The guy gave me the table in the middle, 8 seats. I'm like yo...you see anyone behind me? I only got one butt, I don't need 8 chairs. He was like oh is okay, not busy. I'm like okay, what if 8 people come in 10 minutes after I seated, I have to move? So I looked around, saw a smaller table of 4, I told him I take that one. Not a big deal, the guy wasn't thinking. Walked around the buffet tables, is a lot of options, but is typical Chinese/American, is all good, I know what I'm in for. The food is not great, actually not even that good, the chicken have loads of starch in it, like General Chicken, I seriously don't think any chicken in it, maybe should call it General Starch‍ The customers there all kinda weird, I guess this place located not in the good area? I'm not sure, but I don't feel comfortable there Will I be back? Probably not, if the food is like OH WOW! I'll be like going to war, and I'll be back. Food is not good, people.... Well...

Yelp
SEVEN WORDS: A MELTING POT OF ASIAN GOODNESS / UNDER-RATED. . I find a few of these Reviews Offensive - as if someone needs to give a Place a Bad Review. .. Yes....it's a Chinese Buffet - but it cost $40 before tip for two people to Eat two complete meals. Go to Raising Canes, McDonalds, and even your Favorite Chinese Restaurant and limit yourself to $40. . You will be underfed at Every Turn. That being Said, let's get on to the Food. . It's a Mixd Bag of a LOT OF CUISINES. It's Got Both Crayfish and Shrimp (Heads-On), each lightly sautéed, Butterflied Fried Shrimp, a full mix of Chinese Stir-Fry Dushes, Coconut Shrimp that tasted pre-fried in a Style of Tempura before being boules in a light Coconut Milk Sauce, Pancit/Lo Mein - with a Food Dose of Farlic and Onuin, Fried Bananas, a light salad bar, Multiple Soups and Dessert Dishes. . Was it the Best Buffet I've ever had? No but it was near the tip- and the team Dushes were strongly manages via Walkie and Headset. That was Something New. . At no time was a Steamer close to Empty - and this place was a as Packed as Tge Wicked Spoon in Vegas. . I would personally rate this a 4.15. My wife, a Filipina, said it reminded her of home. She would give it a 4.3. . Another very traditional thing was Milkfish and Tilapia - both pan fried SE Asia,- Style. Both with skeleton, head, and tail intact. Still, this buffet should feel every appetite, from Trad to Rad. We will return Soon - especially since it's $40 for two in 2025...including a pound of good seafood.

Yelp
Asian Star is a decent Asian buffet in the Reynoldsburg area. The decor is outdated compared to the newer, trendier spots like The City or Feast Buffets, but I have a feeling it's a longtime favorite of people who live nearby as they had a nice sized Saturday night crowd. The good point is that we received great service. The staff was friendly and our waitress attentive. The food was quite a mix with some dishes being really good (definitely try the fish in the soy garlic type sauce) and others atrocious (stay far away from the mussels that look like they're topped with cheese when it's actually a thick mayo!). Have to say cleanliness was the downfall. Food was spilled over between the buffet trays, just didn't seem the most sanitary. If you are not overly squeamish about buffets and just happen to be in the area, then it's worth a try, but don't make a special trip.

Yelp
Me and my bf went, even though we were scared of the bad reviews. The ambiance was very nice, the place is well lit and clean. The food was hot and good! we don't have the most advanced taste pallet, but we loved all chicken/steak/ and veggie options! they also had sushi, but we didn't try that. The service was very good, our waitress refilled our drinks immediately when needed and was kind to us. We WILL be going again!!!

Judah W.

Yelp
My friends love this place. Not my favorite but still has decent food with a large selection. It's a buffet so you get what you pay for, but I've never had a bad time
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
Three stars is being generous. Let's be honest though, it's a Chinese buffet on Hamilton Road. You know exactly what you're getting when you pick this place. It was acceptable. I'd advise against the hot and sour soup... waaaaay too much white pepper, like, inedible. I'm sure you'll find a few things that are good a just go back for more like I did, the teriyaki chicken was decent, for example. I pretty much ate that.
google avatar

Doug L.

Yelp
This was a good Chinese buffet. Not as many food choices as the one we usually go to on the other side of the city. Service was good but they never refilled our waters. I would go back if I was in the area again.

M L.

Yelp
Welcoming, the food is the best in Columbus. I try to go at least once a week. All the chicken dishes are delicious.
google avatar

Sadie R.

Yelp
Love it here. Idc what anyone says. It. SMACKS. I myself haven't been here in.. probably well over a decade? But. We came on a Wednesday. And it DID NOT disappoint. Long time fan. And that won't change. Job well done. Can't beat 15.99 all you can eat. (The cost of a large pizza)
google avatar

Yelp
Surprisingly while I was on a work trip in Columbus, I was craving Chinese food and since COVID, I haven't been to a buffet, so I decided what the heck. Let's give this place a try. I must say, ABSOLUTELY stop by! First of all, just observing all the customers eat inside, it was just a melting pot of different cultures and backgrounds. The staff were pretty attentive to refilling sodas and providing utensils and napkins. The buffet itself was pretty much two bars of hot food, a salad bar, cold bar, and desserts. To me, a legit Chinese restaurant has salted prawns and these prawns were huge! I probably ate 20 prawns during dinner service. It was so good! I also loved the chow mein with the various broccoli and meats dishes. The egg rolls were amazing with the hot and sour soup. Literally not one dish was off. Highly recommend visiting, it's not luxurious, but it definitely hits the spot and makes you feel right at home.

Yelp
A place needs a good cleaning. The carpet looks terrible. Our table was not clean. The food was at the lower spectrum. Every chicken dish that I tried was way overcooked to the point. Some of it was so hard you couldn't bite it. We will not be back to this restaurant.

Gary K.

Yelp
Filthy and dirty the place smelled like dirty dishes that someone use as an ashtray for a couple of days the staff was very rude me being handicapped I was looked at as a bother or being in the way, but when I go out, I don't ask for a special accommodations just be able to navigate the space safely I didn't see any, but it smelled like cockroaches

Brandon C.

Yelp
Just basic Asian buffet food. Not bad, good in a pinch, nothing that's a wow............,.......
google avatar

Jerry J.

Yelp
Super clean. Great fresh food. Service was very quick and polite. I just wish they had more Chinese options. but overall five out of five for me.

Dave D.

Yelp
After eating here, I became sick with diarrhea that lasted for days. It's not a safe place to eat. Additionally the food is lukewarm and not good.
google avatar

Rodney W.

Yelp
I'm sure they try to make the most of a bad situation, but the interior of Asian Star reminds me of a musky, smelly basement. The temperature is at least comfortable. I had no problems at all with the service - very good on most respects. As for the buffet, the appetizer bar is the star of the show. The mains are okay, but the doughnuts, egg rolls, wontons, tempura shrimp, and fried dumplings were amazing. I didn't even have room for dessert I ate so many! I highly recommend if you're just looking for something to eat but if the environment matters, best head somewhere else.

Micah W.

Yelp
We haven't visited Asian Star in over a decade. We've always been reluctant to return because of its history. But we finally agreed to go for lunch on a Friday, and I must admit they blew me away. The carpets and tables were clean. The service was excellent, and the food was also rather delicious. They also replenished the food efficiently. We'll definitely be back.

Kylee S.

Yelp
Has fresh and amazing food to fill up your tummy specially after a long drive. The service is absolutely fantastic! Will always stop when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Jacob S.

Yelp
Just Okay. Decent selection of food, some items looked as though they were sitting for a while some items not stocked at all. Looks dirty and run down inside and out. It was a pretty busy night, crowded lines, food everywhere, some customers were returning to the food woth used dirty plates? Our server keep the plates cleared, but did not offer refills of our drink. What food I had was standard tasting, nothing was bad, nor was it spectacular. Given the choice, I'll try other establishments in the area.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
I'm not local and I have been here only once. It was for lunch on a Sunday so traffic was moderate to high. The buffet was well-stocked and the food was very good; a full range of Asian options(including sushi rolls) and an offering of standard American fare like cheese pizza, Mac n cheese, fries etc. There was a good fruit and veggie and salad area. Desserts were very nice too! There was a sign on a couple of the bars which I found refreshing. It cautioned you to be real about how much you could actually eat. And that if you had excessive uneaten food on your plate that you would be charged a 50% fee for wasting food. We Americans are so blessed with resources, including food, and we can become very spoiled with the availability of foods that are precious and rare in other parts of the world. Obesity is a serious problem here. So in summary; the Asian Star China Buffet is as good as it gets. If you go, go with an appetite and a plan to exercise!

Yelp
So let me start off by saying we come her at least 2x a week!!! My nieces absolutely love this place! Everyone is sweet and the place is clean. I'm obsessed over the chicken wings and doughnuts! Lol I just recently discovered they had beef ribs and can I say DELICIOUS!! food is always ALWAYS hot! The parking lot is Fuller's can sometimes be hard to find close parking. Every time we come the kids find something new to try and it's always a good place for laughs and just to have a good time. We never feel rushed and they wait the tables so dang ok fast! Love it. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Lana L.

Yelp
You already know when you can smell the freshness of citrus sodium filled chicken, you're in for a good time. I didn't have my expectations high, but the craving was there and we don't have much of a selection of buffets from where we're from. The service is wonderful, and the food is delicious. The chicken is furthest from dry, holds its flavor and moisture in every bite. It stayed hot until we were able to sit down, and both of us had 2 plates. There is a good selection for kids if their tastebuds haven't developed to liking other flavors than sugar and cheese, so there's pizza and mac & cheese. The ice cream was a bit skeptical because children were having at it without permission and there was no running water for the scoops, so I passed. Other than that minor situation, everything was exceptional. Stop by if you're in town!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow!!! I don't think the accountants want me to go here every day, or this place would go broke! I have now discovered my new favorite buffet place in Columbus. It used to be Quaker Stake & Lube, but this place has, has everyone beat. The Decor was type notch, although the bathroom did not look fancy. or have any special look to it. Beautiful carpeting through the entire place. I struggled between giving this place a 5 or a four star, but the food and the service was so exceptional, that I had to give this place 5 stars, so lets talk about the meat and potatoes of the place the Food: Such a wide variety, the food was fresh, and taste excellent. from ice cream to the egg foo young. Fried chicken, that actually taste like fried chicken, many times the american Items that have these dishes, don't taste up to par, but this place does. Such a wide variety of tasty desserts as well, I promise you you won't be disappointed, unless you don't like good food!
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
This is your typical Chinese Buffet restaurant. The selection isn't as big as some places, but they do have the traditional Chinese staples. If you're looking for a quick bite and are craving Chinese I recommend this place.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
This place was surprisingly clean and well stocked for a Chinese buffet! If you're in the area then this is definitely the place for you to come to enjoy so many different dishes. I'm not sure if the quantity of seafood was normal or if it was a special for Sunday, but there were a ton of options. I'm wondering if it was why the buffet costs us $13 each as well since I saw signs for $10.50 for the buffet and we were there at lunch time. The wait staff was very nice and one of them actually stopped to ask us how everything was. I noticed the buffet tops were very clean, which is hard to find in most Chinese buffets. The floors were also freshly mopped and the tables were clean. Those are my most common complaints at these types of restaurants but they did great! We will be back.
google avatar

Tory R.

Yelp
The food here is pretty good. Very standard Chinese buffet. It's always been very busy when I go so the service seems to suffer a bit. I wouldn't necessarily scout this place out if you're not in the vicinity...but it's okay in a pinch if you're having a Chinese buffet craving.
google avatar

Kristin T.

Yelp
food is bland and nasty. they will charge you for a seat even if you don't eat. Do yourself a favor and pass on this place.
google avatar

Biggah K.

Yelp
Trash . Bad service.Bad food . Just a horrible experience . Not for me at all . This made me never want to go to another buffet again

William M.

Yelp
Pretty nice and wide buffet options , their hot sauces are the best! I will definitely come back!
google avatar

Jacey J.

Yelp
Authentic design, apparent upon arrival, continued into entry and dining. Asian (predominantly Chinese) dishes, both authentic and americanized as well as simple familiar foods like pizza, chicken tenders, mashed potatoes (so the kids can find something to eat for sure) But also what you'd expect - Sushi, various chicken dishes and stir fry's. There is a significant salad bar and about a dozen desert options. And they have a very large liquor/drink selection. Non alcoholic drinks are Pepsi products (Mountain Dew anyone??) and teas (yes, water, too...). Great buffet selection, fair price, clean establishment, kind staff. AND ICE CREAM C'MON NOW!! bruh...I come for the Sesame chicken and have for years, but if you can get down with sea food or other traditional Chinese dishes, there is a ton for you here. "All you CAN eat" 'can' being the operating word here. Definitely worth at least a try, but it's one of my favorite spots. I drive 30 minutes for it regularly.
google avatar

Larry V.

Yelp
My photos show the damage we did. Little bites, but too many, in hindsight. This place has sometimes a rough reputation, but I think unfairly in general. The food was updated several times while we were there, though a few labeled didnt match the actual food. The food was at least warm and at times hot enough for me to step back and try a different approach. There were numerous things that, in my younger days, I would have tried... but alas, I reached and even exceeded my limit. My wife enjoyed her meal as did i.

Yelp
Tasty yummy in my tummy looks good taste good to so goooooooooood love how the waiter is nice

Christine F.

Yelp
This is always one of my favorite Chinese buffets! The people here are always so friendly! Tonight, we were served by Sienna, a very sweet and attentive lady! She even helped me brush up on some of my long-forgotten Chinese like Xièxiè "shei shei" and Zàijiàn "tza jin." For a Friday night around 7pm, it wasn't too busy. They were very prompt to refill empty trays in the buffet. My daughter and I spent majority of our time around the sushi, of course! But we also tried the smoked salmon, mussels, sticky buns, and hot and sour soup. I have been enjoying hot and sour soup since I was a young child, but I was also spoiled by having a very close friend of our family make it for us all the time. So when I go to any Chinese restaurant, the best way to judge the food, in my opinion, is the hot and sour soup. Asian Star, definitely has my recommendation based upon their hot and sour soup. It has a very rich beef flavor and has a good amount of bean curd. My only suggestion would be to have shitake mushrooms instead of the mini white mushrooms. But it was very good just as it was! Anyone that enjoys a very relaxed and casual Chinese buffet should check out Asian Star.
google avatar

SyriaHa D.

Yelp
"They food was nice and hot and the waitress was okay but other than that The place was a vibe".
google avatar

Gwen W.

Yelp
Decent size buffet. However, like past reviews have mentioned, some of their food is not luke warm. I had the green beans, and yes, they were cooler than room temp. It does make me nervous - especially with the bad rap that independently owned Chinese eateries have been known for. The restaurant is rather big inside. I've never seen it packed, but I'm sure it can be at times. The servers seat you, take your drink order, then leave you to venture the buffet tables. A plus that they don't bug you.
google avatar

Bethany K.

Yelp
As buffets go, I like this one. When you go during the regular dining times, the food is hot and fresh. I prefer their pepper chicken as it's breaded vs grilled, and at lunch time they have these cheesy potato tots - no, they are not Chinese, but still very good. The serving staff are very friendly and efficient, the staff that seat you and check you out aren't as loving. When I am in the mood for quick Chinese, I usually choose here - I love options.
google avatar

Sheena A.

Yelp
I gave them another chance it's been a while got the buffet to go not bad for 8 bucks
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
Good food, even better atmosphere. Was pleasantly surprised by it as I had not heard of it before. Definitely coming back!

G L.

Yelp
The food is always hot and juicy - excellent selection on most recent visit. All areas (desserts, salads, entrees, soups, etc.) are fully stocked so I sampled quite a few things - all were delicious. The egg drop soup is excellent! The dishes are flavorful and tasted like real meat, not like the processed meats at Panda Express. There are ample vegetables and sauce in certain entrees that include them in the recipe. The place is clean, and I saw it had been remodeled - nice. Every customer looked like they enjoyed their meal. The staff was attentive and friendly. Will go back every time I'm in the mood for a variety of Asian foods. Five stars from me!
google avatar

Kenny D.

Yelp
I'm sorry, but I can't give this place a very good review. I've been here on multiple occasions over the years and the quality of the food just seems to be getting worse over time. I'm not sure if it's the taste, temperature or texture that disappoints me most, but it HAS been much better. I never had a problem with the service, but the general appearance of the buffet is nothing to write home about. I'm sure they're well aware of this. The desert area has really been lacking in appeal as of late as well. I still go if friends or colleagues want to eat there but it's generally not my choice anymore. For record I wouldn't tell you to avoid this place because opinions will vary. I know people who love this place and I won't say or do anything to challenge that. In fact I was one of their bigger fans, several years ago. It's just that I don't enjoy it anymore...
google avatar

Chrissy L.

Yelp
So, yes the place needs a major remodel. However, if you can get over that you will enjoy yourself. This is the best Chinese buffet you will find. Food is hot, fresh, and good. The creamy coconut shrimp wins hands down. The crab Rangoon is made with real crab. They are super nice and friendly. They keep it spotless clean. Only thing keeping me from rambling 5 stars is again, the much needed remodel, especially in the restroom.
google avatar

Bing Y.

Yelp
They do have a variety food but overall experience is not good, restroom super dirty and small. If restaurant restroom are nasty how can we trust their kitchen are nice and clean? I wish they can do better job on cleaning cause their food not bad at all!

Keshawn W.

Yelp
So......I went with two of my close friends(black) and they were very rude honestly. The food was great but the service was pretty bad and I've never been I've never been given a check before I haven't been finished eating I feel like they suspected us of doing a dine and dash because while I was eating they were specifically watching us. We also noticed the waiter also specifically chose to stand behind our table and write checks for other tables. I also spoke to another person at this restaurant and it seemed they were just being rude towards black people when it came to customer service but were very patient with other people. The rice was actually pretty savory and not dry,the meat was well sauced and well cooked. I just think the service was a bit offensive
google avatar

Rick M.

Yelp
It is what it is Not exactly the best Chinese buffet but not the worst either. Everything was simply just ok nothing stood out. They were pretty busy and it seemed there was always at least one or two empty pans on the buffet. I don't want to be unkind so I'll suffice it to say I think I've had enough Asian Star to last me a very long time.
google avatar

Leonardo G.

Yelp
Every time I'm in Columbus I stop by. Always great food and great service. My top Chinese food place in Columbus. Best part is the quality of the food.
google avatar

Isabel G.

Yelp
I wasn't going to write a review until I saw all the haters crapping all over the place. Compared to the other Chinese buffets I have been to, this is one of my favorites. What are you really expecting out of a Chinese buffet? If you are looking for authentic Chinese food, this is not the place to go and I will write some reviews for some great Chinese places, but most Chinese restaurants are very Americanized. This place has all your basics and then some. I really like it all and compared to some other places this place is a gem. Try the crab Rangoon. As for the staff and cleanliness, people are tripping because the place is always very clean and the food is very hot because they have people working their butts off bringing out that food constantly. I have NEVER had anything cold from here and I go here more than I would like to admit. I like this place a lot and I will be back. Don't let these other reviews scare you off. These people have apparently never been to the west side. If you want some crappy Chinese buffet food, go there (but the west side has the best Mexican just FYI).
google avatar

King M.

Yelp
Happy they are back open for business, my kids love to eat here. They are serving a small we buffet but with the same great sides. Probably the best Asian buffet around.

Brie T.

Yelp
Ther'e pricing on the website is not updated. States a certain price for the ticket is a lot more expensive than advertised. Food is good but that's about it.
google avatar

Christa A.

Yelp
We just received our second order. The food was way below par. Everything was cold. The Bang Bang Shrimp still had tails on, and were half the size of our previous order. The spice level was really low, and the sauce nonexistent. The rice box for the Bang Bang Shrimp was half full. The Shrimp Lo Mein was cold, and the box was not full. The egg rolls were cold. We really enjoyed our first meal from your restaurant, but we will rethink ordering from you in the future. I have never had such a difference in meals that have been ordered from one restaurant.
