We tried this little place for the first time 7 months ago, on the night before I entered a clinical trial at the Moffitt Cancer Center. We were seated by the hostess, who was the owners' middle-school-aged daughter and served by their high-school-aged son. The owners worked the kitchen. For a little hole in the wall place in a shopping center, the menu was large and varied. We ordered hot and sour soup, General Tso's chicken, and a side of fried rice on that night, and all were perfectly prepared. The portions were large for the reasonable price. After traveling extensively in China, we realize that the concept of authentic Chinese food in the USA is difficult. The basic ingredients are just different here. But at Asian Wok, the food was as close to authentic as you can find.
At the end of our first visit, we opened our fortune cookies, and mine said "One cannot choose how one will die. One can, however, choose how one will live." Pretty smart cookie, IMO.
We return now frequently when I have treatments at Moffitt, and have not been disappointed. The little family who operate the place work hard and live the American Dream. For those who post nasty one-star reviews over a single bad experience, I recommend taking a step back and getting some perspective. I have no doubt that your meal did not meet your expectations, but look at the long hours these nice folks put in 7 days a week and maybe try to exercise a more generous spirit.
