"Aslan Mediterranean Cuisine moved one mile across town in Eagle Rock to its new location a few weeks ago. The Mediterranean eatery is one of many new eateries in the Northeast LA neighborhood, and also replaces local staple Camilo’s, which closed after 18 years. Husband and wife owners Nora and Krikor Sarkissian operated Aslan Mediterranean Cuisine in a tiny strip mall near Eagle Rock Plaza since 2013. The family has deep roots in the catering and restaurant world, as Nora Sarkissian’s parents Maro and Kevork (also known as Aslan) Aslanian launched Aslan Catering back in 1988 in San Fernando. The family eventually opened the first Aslan restaurant years later, but closed in 2012 after Aslan’s death. In 2013, the Sarkissians made the same family leap into catering and dining with a menu full of Armenian, Greek, Lebanese, and Mediterranean dishes. The Sarkissians felt invisible in the strip mall, but looked into the shuttered Camilo’s space after it closed in January this year. As of July 19, Aslan Mediterranean serves traditional dishes passed down from Nora Sarkissian’s parents in a larger space with more foot traffic. The Sarkissian’s use Aslan’s own marinade recipe for kabobs, as well as his hummus recipe, along with shawarma, pita wraps, and Greek-style french fries." - Mona Holmes

Google
Good authentic food. Only takes about 10 minutes for a to go order. One thing to note is that the cabbage salad was pretty raw and bitter. Not quite my taste but everything else was delicious.

Google
Spacious place with friendly server. My Vegetarian Plate served with tasty Baba Ganoush that I've ever had. Good experience over all.

Rhonda Phillips

Google
Great service. Great tasting food. The falafel was amazing.. crunchy outside, light fluffy inside.

Ashley Mara villa

Google
I've been around the block with falafels these were pretty decent and okay. Hummus tasted like canned chick peas you can taste the difference between canned and dry ones nothing wrong with either or. Personally i like things with a little elbow grease and things done old skool. Overall pretty okay experience. To each thier own. Service was great however!

Google
This place is a diamond! Food and service are amazing. I had the chicken shawerma wrap and lentil soup. 🤤 Not very decorative but very clean! Seems like it might be a good place for events with all the open space.

Rob Allen

Google
Delicious food. Shawarma’s were awesome. Really tasty. Pretty basic inside so I guess it’s more for take away, but service was great, and the food was super good. Would recommend.

Yelp
There's absolutely no ambience at this place My food was good enough that I'll give it another shot for takeout. Taste: I got the chicken shawerma wrap, which tasted pretty good. Usually I would prefer less bread:filling ratio (ie more filling), but the seasoning was good. The hummus was solid and satisfying. The cabbage salad had heavy bay leaf or mint or something, and I found it a little hard to finish, but if you like that, you'll like the salad. Experience: I walked in on a completely empty restaurant, with no real charm, and I didn't want to eat there because it felt almost oppressively against charm. But the staff was nice, and they were really quick. I ordered to go and had my food within 10 minutes. Mood Before/After: I was super anxious before I went, and honestly after I ate the food, I felt better. Fullness: This wrap was smaller than I expected it to be. I wouldn't order a wrap alone next time. I could've eaten more. What else did I eat/do today affecting my experience: I was just working from home before this. But I have been on edge due to some personal issues, so I think that could've contributed to a slightly negative outlook. Honestly this was a 3-star meal, but I suspect they have better menu items, so I'd come back.

Yelp
While the competition for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food remains a stiff one, Aslan can certainly keep up. Not to say that there are any otherwise unseen culinary experiments but the selection and preparation of foods is solid and generally well done. Blame it on the California drought (?), however, the chicken this time was on the rather dry side. PREVIOUS REVIEW: "... can't help myself from looking for you, I set fire to the rain ...", and with way too much rain at once for L.A., I got tired and lost desire to go out, but decided to order from Aslan Mediterranean Cuisine. The Filet Mignon Kebab Platter, Beef Shawarma Platter, and Vegetarian Combo Platter all were well done, tender meat, some rice, very smooth humus, and cabbage and taboule salad, respectively, baba ganoush, and supplemented by a fresh Greek salad. With the rain pounding against the windows, this was a perfect setup for a TV dinner and some binge watching. Oh - most important and I just almost forgot to mention - the dessert Success (a chocolate delight) was nice, the Halawet el Jibn unforgettably good!! Did you say it rained?

Yelp
Food is very tasty and generous I loved it I will eat there more often, price is very reasonable I consider this restaurant one of the best fast food restaurant.

Yelp

Yelp
Pretty average Kabobs and Pita. Garlic Spread had a bit of a weird taste.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Am sad. Aslan is gone and has closed their doors. I will miss their good, healthy food and of course always good service. Wish them all the best maybe someday we'll see you again in Eagle Rock. Thank you for everything.

Yelp
Asian Mediterranean cuisine hands down one of the best in town. I drive from Burbank to eagle rock for there delicious food. I have tried almost everything on there menu and you can not go wrong with anything here. Cold appetizers, hot appetizers, main dishes, and soups all very delicious and made from scratch everything here is made from scratch and made with love. Family owned restaurant and everything made is made with with passion and love of food. Beef shawarma must try Chicken shawarma must try Falafel is a must on the side Chicken breast must try Make sure to get extra thaini and garlic sauce

Olivia S.

Yelp
Solid. Went here for OTMC chicken shawarma press. Did the upgrade for hummus, and falafel, and got roupens fries. I specifically said, more than twice, no olives on ANYTHING. Despite my name sake I absolutely hate them! The lady who took my order heard me. It's on my receipt, but the cook didn't get the memo I guess. When I got there I was surprised to see how familiar I am with that area. I just never knew they were there. Place looked cute. I think they had an area to eat outside, however I ran over on my lunch and didn't have time to sit. So I open the wrap to a giant olive staring me dead in the face. ;( the only upside is that they weren't sliced, or I would've just thrown it out. But I did end up biting in to one. I still remember that taste :( it just ruins everything for me. Thankfully the favors of the fries were fairly robust and were able to distract me from the horror I had just been subjected to. Dramatic much? Duh. It's me, but I'm always real. Just a tad extra w it but I effing HATE OLIVES!!! So I asked for extra pepperocini for the fries, those were different pepperocinis than were actually on the fries. Those were acidic and pleasant, the extras were fiery and hit the bin, QUICK!!! All in all food was good. The fries were v large for the price. Made for good leftovers. Tho they got a little dry, original bitchin sauce gave them new life. I'd go back for these. The feta, and garlic sauce, plus pepperocinis made for the perfect acidic, flavorful blend. Anwars is still my #1, but this place holds their own. Only thing is you can't tip w your card. That sucks. Still a pandemic. Def unfair to the employees.

Andy R.

Yelp
This place knocks it out of the park every time. I go weekly. I recommend the filet mignon kabob, chicken kabob, falafel, cheese boreg, Mediterranean salad...you really can't go wrong.

warren b.

Yelp
Best kabobs in town! Best hummus ever! Wonderful people! Seriously look no further. Oh and the lentil soup - TDF. Period.

James T.

Yelp
Hands down easily the best Mediterranean food in NELA. My wife and I have been eating here even before the pandemic. We like the deliciousness, hospitality, and affordability. I lived in Glendale and went to school around north Hollywood. Growing up Armenian/Mediterranean food has always been my healthy go to. The food here is always on par. The filet and luleh are always cooked to perfection and seasoned well. They are like tiny little meat pillows of goodness. The falafel is always on point. Not bad at all for 1.50 for a big falafel ball. Which brings me to a valid point that needs to be addressed. One dollar and fifty pennies is not bad for a big falafel ball. It's about the same price pre pandemic. If you're going to write a review about the falafel was good but pricey and leave a poor review for a mom and pop please understand inflation. Prices go up and apparently critical thinking has not.

Yelp
Best hummus in the world. Great greek salad! Yum, yum. Go there for your hummus fix...

Carole C.

Yelp
Scrumptious, authentic Mediterranean dishes. Newly designed interior with a warm, welcoming & attentive staff. Paleo-friendly combination that I love is their chicken kabobs, along with a side of babaganoush . Delectable combination.

Charlie M.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Aslan for years. Delicious chicken kabob plate; meat is juicy. Lasts a few meals. The sides are nourishing. Ordered through Grubhub and they botched the order. Aslan went out their way to correct the order. Spectacular customer service. Look forward to our next meal there.

David B.

Yelp
The problem with doing food reviews during the pandemic is that you're often having great food as take out or eating out of take home packaging, as was the case here. So the pictures don't do the food justice. But the food was really excellent. Everything that we had was great. falafel, hummus (my wife says it's the best she's ever had) ,filet mignon skewer, fried cheese boreg, etc. The people who run the place are very nice. There is no outdoor seating technically but they put a table out on the sidewalk for us. So if you ask, you'll probably be able to get that table. Or of course..just take out. Either way, it'll be great. We'll be back often.

Keith A.

Yelp
I love Mediterranean and love that this place is so close to home. The rice and sides are always great and the meat is always cooked PERFECTLY. Lots of kebab places cook their beef fully and this place serves it at a perfect medium rare. The chicken is also juicy and the food is prepared at a great pace. I'll be returning and enjoying their food for a long time. If you're from from eagle rock, make sure to try Aslan! Pro tip, if you do not want to pat for parking on the street, just park on Merton (just south of Colorado) and parking is fre

Lidia E.

Yelp
Aslan Mediterranean, it did not have the basic sides that you would normally get at any other place that sells Mediterranean food. They did not have cucumber salad Or the basic sauces that normally is served with beef or chicken meal or the grilled tomato. The meat was dry. On top of that the prices were ridiculous. $20 for one meal. I don't recommend this place for anyone looking to eat Mediterranean food. Sorry the may have been not the best but the guy was nice.

Andrea R.

Yelp
My craving - chicken breast kabob, hummus, pickled turnips, garlic spread, yellow chilies and pita bread. Delicious and very satisfying!

Dana B.

Yelp
Love Aslan, it's our go to take out when we have guests- their falafel is classic with a subtle flavor and perfect texture. Great local spot.

Rachel C.

Yelp
Great service with a nice relaxing atmosphere. The food was amazing!! The chicken and filet mignon was super tender and spices are on point. Highly recommend for a quick bite to eat or to bring family and friends to enjoy.

Mit G.

Yelp
Love the food here. Everything is reasonably priced. They even have lunch specials. Plus the staff is really friendly. I enjoy eating here!

Autym S.

Yelp
Just stuffed our faces with the chicken kabob plate, beef shawarma fries, greek salad, lentil soup, and the beef shwarma platter. My husband and I get take out about 1-2x a week and we always get fomo and order enough for a family of 5 because we don't want to miss out on anything that looks good everything was so amazing and after we got done eating we described it as "comfort food that doesn't make you feel like crap after." It was cozy but not heavy and everything was seasoned perfectly. Even the fries which could have been really greasy were crispy, crunchy, and not oily at all. I can't wait to have leftovers for lunch tomorrow and the Aslan fam even wrote us a sweet note and gave us a side of baklava *I called in advanced to try to place a delivery order directly through them so that a 3rd party wasn't taking a cut especially with recent shelter in place orders and how brutal 2020 has been. The sweet woman on the phone said ChowNow was the best option and they don't have in house delivery. In the future we'll pick up if we can to eliminate 3rd party apps completely. Support small businesses.

Yelp
Doesn't get any better... flavors thru the roof. Service excellent. Ambiance not so much but who cares when you have such tasty flavored well prepared food.

Read M.

Yelp
What happened to this place? The chicken shawarma wasn't shawarma it was flat rubbery pieces with no flavor. Sorry to be giving this 1 star but never again. They need to upgrade back to their old recipes and quality..

Emma P.

Yelp
We love Aslan! We've been going to Aslan since before they moved to new location in Eagle Rock. The space is big, but the food is even bigger! Don't go anywhere else for great Mediterranean food! Service has always been very friendly as well.

Danielle T.

Yelp
This place is delicious and fresh! Had the beef shawarma wrap, and the sauce they use inside is amazingly delicious! The Mediterranean Salad dressing is also fire! The waitress was the nicest ever. Highly recommend this place!

Felicia H.

Yelp
If I could add another 5 stars, I would! This place was sooo delicious! My kids and I shared the mujadara, the filet kabob plate, a side of chicken breast kabob and an extra side of filet kabob. It was enough food to have leftovers for lunch - and I'm glad we did because my kids already requested that we eat it again tomorrow. The mujadara ( lentil/rice combo) was super flavorful and satisfying, the filet and chicken were both tender and well seasoned and all the accompaniments were so fresh and bright it really brought it all together. The hummus was smooth and rich and the cabbage salad balanced it all out. Definitely adding to our list of must-haves! Thanks Aslan!

Kevin L.

Yelp
Delicious. Fresh. Wonderful service. Everything, from the pita and hummus to the Kabobs, shawarma, salad and baklava is great here. Aslan is definitely one of my top Mediterranean choices in an area with many.

Kara L.

Yelp
Favorite Mediterranean in LA. The chicken breast kabob is always perfectly done. The garlic sauce is to die for, and I absolutely love the cabbage salad. The dressing is so refreshing. I could honestly eat this everyday.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Honestly, why don't more people go here? I've been twice with Eagle Rock Boyfriend (ERB) and we were the only people in the place. I really don't want the restaurant to go out of business because their food is absurdly delicious and totally affordable. I've had the chicken kebab plate and the chicken shawarma pita. Chicken was cooked perfectly. And their garlic paste is brilliant. ERB had the falafel pita and said it was the best he's ever had. Note that they do not serve alcohol, but Relentless is right across the street if you want to get your drink on afterwards. Also a bonus is Simon, quite possibly the nicest, friendliest server on the planet. He remembered me and ERB from the first time we were there and was delighted to see us again. Treated us like old friends. He is there Friday and Saturday nights. Go see him and eat well! Also, tip well too!

Jenny W.

Yelp
Came here for the OTM egg rolls with shawarma. Added the fries and a drink. The food was delicious and the customer service fast and friendly. The shawarma was cooked perfectly with lots of flavor and the fries were crispy. Highly recommend!

Kelly K.

Yelp
There's lots of Mediterranean options near me in Glendale, but I went with Aslan since it's not far away and had rave reviews. The food (delivered) made a very good first impression. The steak kebab is a filet cut - my favorite - and I really enjoyed the tenderness and char-grilled taste. Solid portion of chunks, too. The veggies seemed fresh and had a nice char taste, but I wish there were more slices. It's more of a meat and rice plate with some garnish than a typical 1:1 kebab. There was more than enough rice, the hummus was creamy and yummy for dipping the soft pita bread, and the cabbage salad was a welcomed addition as well. Overall, the meal could probably be stretched into two meals (with leftovers for lunch) but it's all super tasty and easy to take down in one fell swoop. Will definitely order from Aslan again.

Pipe D.

Yelp
I come here 2 times a week since it's the densest vegan food in the area. This Falafel is FREAKING HUGE!! It's the perfect vibe to read with the natural window lighting. i recommend the falafel wrap with hummus inside + a side of their fresh homemade garlic Sauce that they prepare.

Carl M.

Yelp
It's alright. Not worth 5 stars though. We tried everything from chicken shawarma to chicken wrap. It seems that someone over salted the sides so we didn't enjoy it. The beef shawarma was good, no fat in there so it was enjoyable. The chicken shawarma was good quality but lacks flavor. Rice was good. Cabbage salad is a pass, too flat. Tabbouleh was oversalted. Beside that it's good (not the best I had) The Roupis or wtv is called shawarma fries was also okay maybe 3.5/5 but not amazing as most reviewers pointed it to be The chicken shawarma wrap is 2/5. Nothing enjoyable about it.

Dr. Michael P.

Yelp
Easy free parking in the back of the restaurant. Food rocks! Lentil soup was excellent, hummus & cabbage salad were freshly made, & baba ghanougg (grilled eggplant paste) is just delicious! Holy smoke, their filet mignon kebabs are easily the best I've ever had. Cooked to medium rare perfection. Dessert was a fascinating French? style cocoa rounds called suces? Service was excellent. Very much looking forward to going back! This is our go to spot for outstanding Lebanese/Mediterranean! Cheers! DocMikeChiro

Khristine B.

Yelp
Great prices, great service and great food. The service was especially amazing because I felt really taken cared for. Waiter who is there Fridays/Saturdays was attentive, informative, welcoming, and super sweet. When I open a restaurant in the near future we need an employee/managed like him. Didn't get his name damn it. FYI I ordered the Mediterranean salad with chicken shawarma, chicken breast kebab plate and lentil soup. It was all so amazing. I've had there signature fries with the protein and omg, if your not dieting totally order them and live a little!

Kelsea S.

Yelp
The quality of this food has depleted it's really bad. I'm very disappointed everything tasted oxidized a.k.a. old. Baklavah tasted old The chicken looked like Chipotle chicken it wasn't grilled

Pancho V.

Yelp
I noticed Aslan opened up here recently but looks like they've been around awhile and just relocated to this spot. I came here with the wife and as we entered there was nobody to greet or seat us, there were several people dining at tables but NO employees to be seen, we waited a good couple minutes, wasn't sure if we seat ourselves or turn around and go elsewhere...... finally a lady came from what must be the kitchen and seated us. This was a one person show while we dined, way too much work to give proper service/attention to your customers! #BadManagement....... Roonie M.

Yelp
I really loved the falafels here, but I must say, for the outrageous prices they charge, they should give you a lot more food. Prices really need to come down, sorry.

Erin G.

Yelp
This place hands down has some of the best, most fresh Mediterranean food! I love getting the chicken shawarma wrap or the falafel plate. The food from here is really just amazing. The service is quick and the staff is very friendly. With your Yelp check in they give you a small dessert which was really yummy. I would definitely recommend coming here to try their food at least once. This is a family owned, small business that needs our love during these hard times.

Kristina B.

Yelp
Rainy day in LA. Decided to do pick-up through the Yelp app (Eat24) and the food was ready exactly at the estimated time. Pick up was easy and quick, especially in the wet weather. Now for the food... Roupen's Famous Fries - The fries were absolutely AMAZING. They were nicely seasoned, had a nice crunch, and was fluffy inside. All the toppings really complemented the fries well. The onions were thinly sliced and slightly cooked, which I really appreciated. The sauce was the perfect amount and made the fries really flavorful. The beef sharma was cooked well, moist, and thinly sliced. Everything about it was perfect. Definitely in the top 5 on my all-time favorite fries list. Filet Mignon Kebab Platter - The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and tender. Don't know if the meat was sous-vide, but it definitely tasted it like it. The hummus was really rich and went well the meat. It also came with sliced onions and a cabbage salad. Personally, I would have preferred grilled tomatoes and peppers over the cabbage salad. Aslan's is definitely a must try for a decent price!

Anna D.

Yelp
The most tender falafel ever! They were also so kind to let me substitute the salad it comes with for the amazing cabbage salad. All their dishes are fresh and tasty.

Vaughn W.

Yelp
This is easily one of my favorite Mediterranean restaurants around. Delicious vegan options and such nice people work there. Eaten there too many times and have never had a bad meal. Falafels are alway on point.

Liz H.

Yelp
Really good authentic Mediterranean food. My husband and I found this place while searching for Mediterranean food in Eagle Rock. The falafel was delicious, perfectly fried! No extra oil dripping on the box. We ate them on the way home. I'm also a big baba ghanouj fan and theirs just hit the spot - smoky and silky. Best part for me was the cabbage salad, awesome combination of spices and flavors! The owner Koko came out to chat with us and told us a little bit about the story of the place, very nice guy. Great experience and great food, we will definitely be coming back!

Eugenie H.

Yelp
Was visiting a friend in the area and searched all of the nearest restaurants, this place popped up and it piqued my interest! Ordered Takeout over Grub Hub and arrived a little earlier than I'd scheduled. I pulled up to the front and called, and the very kind gentleman who answered let me know it was ready ahead of schedule. He brought it out to my car promptly and I went on my merry way. I ordered the beef shawarma wrap and my friend had the beef shawarma plate. Both were incredible and extremely flavorful! The wrap was the perfect size, and the shawarma plate gives you a great amount of meat, rice, and hummus for what you pay. Also got the Greek salad, A+, as well as the baclava. I don't usually go for baclava, not really about flakey dessert. But their baclava was so much better than I'm used to! The cylindrical shape packs a ton of moistery-goodness and doesn't fall apart easily. All in all, and easy and delicious takeout experience. Highly recommend!

Sandra O.

Yelp
I went there about a month ago and got the falafel wrap and it was delish! Went again a couple of days ago for the same order and I was disappointed. In my opinion they didn't cook the falafel ball longer and they didn't add enough of the tahini sauce, so it made it somewhat dry. Also there gave me only 3 pieces of the pickled turnip and 2 +the stem of chilies lol. But I will give it another try.

Cyrus M.

Yelp
I got food poisoning after eating here. The only thing I ate all day was their soup and beef shawarma wrap around 2pm and by midnight I had diarrhea, acid reflux, and I was throwing up. Don't even think about dining here. Disgusting.

Arminda D.

Yelp
Food was good. We had the filet mignon kabob, chicken shawarma plate and the falafel plate. The hummus that came with the food was great. The falafels were a little disappointing. Food to go has its disadvantages in that the whole dining experience is becomes the food and the pick up service. We enjoyed the food and the order was ready quickly.

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Amazing customer service! Food is delicious and fresh! Absolutely flavorful! Please check it out! Right off Colorado Blvd.
