Hotel Aspen Review | Hotels Above Par

"Perched in the foothills of the Eiger North Face, this idyllic mountain hideaway dates to 1934 (originally a café), was converted into a hotel in the mid-1980s and reshaped by a major 2012 renovation. Designed as an elevated ski lodge, the property’s log-cabin facade and lodge-style interiors—pine-paneled walls, gingham seating and leather chairs—set a cozy alpine tone across its 39 rooms, which feature modern bathrooms with bathtubs and heated towel racks. Room options range from Alpin Chic doubles (some with open loft galleries) to spacious family suites and a three-bedroom, three-bath penthouse with a separate living area and panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Dining centers on an award-winning on-site restaurant that emphasizes regional ingredients and Swiss wines with modern reinterpretations of classics (the burger is a standout), plus a complimentary breakfast with made-to-order eggs, pancakes, waffles and sparkling wine and daily afternoon coffee and cake. Amenities are adventure- and relaxation-focused: shuttle service and easy access to Grindelwald’s bus network, outdoor terraces, ski-in/ski-out access, and a spa with waterbeds, an old wood sauna, herbal and brine baths and an outdoor whirlpool overlooking the mountains. The overall vibe is rustic mountain chic and tranquil Alpine village living, with rooms starting around $475/night and quick access to nearby attractions like Mannlichen, Jungfraujoch, First Adventure and the Grindelwald Glacier Gorge."

We can't recommend this hotel enough! We stayed here during our honeymoon in late December. This hotel was in a perfect location. Our views were phenomenal, with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the mountains. The spa and outdoor hot tub are a nice touch. Hotel staff was incredibly friendly. We were picked up from the train station by the owner of the hotel! We would love to stay here again.

Staying at Aspen Grindelwald felt like stepping into a fairytale. From the moment I arrived, everything radiated warmth, luxury, and the charm of the Swiss Alps. The view alone is breathtaking — snow-capped peaks, fresh mountain air, and the cozy Alpine atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home yet completely spoiled. But what truly stole my heart was the restaurant. Oh, where do I even begin? The food is pure art — every dish is a masterpiece that awakens all your senses. The flavors are bold yet elegant, the presentation is picture-perfect, and every bite feels like a journey through the finest Swiss ingredients elevated to perfection. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the chefs seem to craft magic on every plate. The service is flawless — warm, attentive, and genuine, with staff who anticipate what you need before you even say it. Dining here felt less like a meal and more like an unforgettable experience. I can confidently say it’s one of the best culinary experiences I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. If heaven had a hotel, it would be Aspen Grindelwald. I can’t wait to come back — for the view, the peace, and most of all, that out-of-this-world restaurant that made me fall in love with the Alps all over again.

Good afternoon. My name is María, and my husband, Guillermo Rodríguez, and I stayed at this hotel with our children. We found it to be a magnificent hotel with beautiful facilities and incredibly friendly service, from the waiters to the cleaning staff. It's a highly recommended place, especially for its cleanliness, heated pool, restaurant, and above all, the personalized attention. Thank you so much, and we hope to see you again soon.

The Aspen Alpin Hotel in Grindelwald was absolutely incredible. The rooms were very spacious and cozy, and the views were breathtaking at every angle. The included breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant for dinner was exceptional. The whirlpool in the spa was perfect to unwind after a day of hiking and exploring. The service provided by the staff was also very good. Sophie was great during check-in and was able to answer any questions we had about the area. All of the waiting staff for breakfast and dinner were excellent and very attentive. We will definitely recommend this resort to friends and family, and will return as soon as we can. Thanks for an incredible experience!

Everything about this hotel is amazing. Check-in was quick, bed was comfy, room was spacious and sparkling clean. The view from the balcony is priceless, so was the walk in the area around the hotel. The breakfast was very good and the staff were welcoming us with smiles (special thanks to Pedro). Notes: Bus 123 stops nearby the hotel and takes you to town. The hotel gave us free bus tickets during our stay. The road to the hotel is a bit narrow and hence you need to be careful if you are driving.

Perfect stay with relaxed elegant feel. Many of the rooms have views of the Eiger. The shuttle picked us up from the train station with in minutes of arrival - we called when we were 10 minutes from the train stop. Although the Aspen Alpine Inn is out of town, it is easily reached by several hourly bus service picking up directly across from Aspen Inn. These buses connect directly to regional transportation in to the mountains. The charm of the location, cordial and helpful staff, fabulous spa and incredible ample breakfast make the effort well worth it. Afternoon tea and cake is a hotel courtesy between 3:00 and 4:45 - very nice way to end the day. The restuarnt setting, staff and food are absolutely superb - fresh , creative, delicious and well priced - for Grindelwald. In fact the dining was so good we cancelled our other dinner reservations didn’t bother to go in to the crowded town for any dinners. I can’t wait to go back!

Andrea, Sophie, and Femke where great. Breakfast and dinner servers were also great. Spa massage therapist was VERY bad. I left with the same body aches I walked in with. I wanted to relax and feel better after massage, I felt the same. Waste of money. My wife and I were very hot at night. No air conditioner and no fan in the rooms. I would never come back to this hotel in the summer or fall months. Sleeping hot is very uncomfortable. Views from our room was also obstructed by the "suits" at the same hotel property. Property was very clean and food was really good. Nice and helpful staff, all of them.

Very unfortunate and frankly, surprising experience at this hotel. We booked 2 rooms for 4 nights in August. We were extremely excited for our stay, but had a family emergency that required us to fully change all of our plans and take the next flight back home. All other accommodations were of course understanding of this, but this one hotel simply refused to be kind or flexible in any way. We didn't even check into the room at all, so the hotel incurred no expense whatsoever. Shocking to pay thousands of dollars to receive such poor customer service.

Yelp
We literally look this place up about every time we are in Switzerland! Up on top of a mountain after a beautiful winding road sits a gorgeous resort overlooking Grindelwald. We passed farmers raking hay and gorgeous Switzerland cabins along the way to reach it. We stopped in the resort for some of the best club sandwiches ever. We hike a lot while in Switzerland so this is a big treat. The resort is picturesque. Absolutely worth stopping in for and returning over and over. I can't hardly wait to be back at this dreamy place. Five stars Plus!!!! Amazing!!!!

Yelp
Beautiful location and ambiance inside and out. ALL food selections were fresh and inventive. We had the burger, monkfish filet, filet mignon, and ahi tuna. All were fantastic! Great cocktails and wine list. Don't miss the desserts as well.

Yelp
The Aspen Hotel is located on a slope away from the hustle and bustle of the town. The setting is gorgeous and the local bus picks up nearby if you don't have a car. This hotel is modern and high end and on the trendy side. We prefer the smaller, boutique family owned spots. Aspen has offers a full restaurant and bar, outdoor seating and spa. We were there in summer and the flies are out of control. I imagine in the winter it's a perfect spot for ski in ski out. If you're looking with a place that's more modern and less of the classic Swiss chalet style, with all of the resort amenities, this hotel may be a good fit for you. It's all very nice, just lacked personality .

Yelp
Unfortunately I can't read German, so I can't understand the details behind Matthias' 3 star review. This place was great! Peaceful location on the mountain slope across from the touristy main street of Grindelwald, free spa access (steam rooms, hot tub, etc), a wonderful room view of the mountains, free parking for our car, and a lovely free European style breakfast each morning. We also ate at their onsite restaurant one night and thought the food was delicious. If we come back to Grindelwald, this is where we will stay.

Yelp
Great Hotel in a lovely area. Room (Little junior suite) was very spacious and well equipped, buitlt with high-class materials. Unfortunately we caught a week of rather bad weather. Not really much on in the evening, otherwise you need to take your car and drive down to Grindelwald. Food/kitchen and service was excellent. Due to bad weather spa reached its Limits sometimes. Taking into consideration what we paid (room and halfboard) for 7 days we think it is not necessary to charge CHF 5.- per day for outside parking. All in all a pleasant and Relaxing stay.
