Assembly Coffee - Review - London - The Infatuation

"Assembly Coffee is a Brixton-based coffee roasters that work with some of our favourite coffee spots, including Omotesando Koffee. You can buy everything from a limited edition double fermented Columbian roast to select care packages on their website. Heads up, they’re doing free next-day delivery. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

The only good thing is that the barista is experienced and friendly. This cafe is marked as ‘Assembly Coffee London’ in GoogleMaps which is misleading. I obviously expected a fully Assembly cafe a bit like the Origin Cafe in Scoresby street. And what made it worst is that their main bean for espresso is from Volcano Coffee Works. Not Assembly, which is what bought me here after having a great cup in justbetweenfriends when I was visiting in Manchester. These beans are markedly cheaper than assembly, at £8.5 compared to £11 per 200g which reflects on the taste. There’s an old phone box that’s sitting directly outside the shop. The cafe is very small and there’s only few seats facing the window and also at the bar. It’s a very deprived area and you will be entertained/intimidated by people having an episode in the box. I found it uncomfortable, it’s not something you want to see whilst having a coffee. I see this was mentioned by another reviewer and obviously nothing has been done about it. A very easy solution is to slightly decorate the window with some sort of art just to blur out the view. Seems like it’s the least priority of the owners. £3.9 for a flat white is overpriced when you have a view like this and limited seatings. Lastly the name of this cafe is Door. Not Assembly. No Volcano :)

Very nice spot, friendly staff. Foaming of milk could be more precise, with less bubbles ☺️ But the coffee is just delicious ~ you can choose from variety of more beans. Would definetely come back!

Assembly Roastery is my new go-to spot for specialty coffee. They have a fantastic selection of beans from all over the world, and their roasting is impeccable. The coffee is always fresh and flavorful, and the packaging is beautiful. But what really sets Assembly Roastery apart is their service. Barista RU was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. She took the time to explain everything about their beans and helped me choose the perfect one for my taste. She was also very welcoming and friendly, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking for high-quality, specialty coffee with excellent service, I highly recommend Assembly Roastery. Here are some of the things I loved: High-quality beans: The beans are sourced from some of the best coffee-growing regions in the world. Variety of beans: They offer a wide variety of beans to choose from, so you can find the perfect one for your taste. Excellent roasting: The beans are roasted to perfection, bringing out their full flavor and aroma. Beautiful packaging: The packaging is sleek and modern, making it a great gift. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Assembly Roastery and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality, speciality coffee.

My wife ordered a selection pack for me for Father’s Day. She paid express delivery but the coffee never came. Assembly stated this was to do with the courier. They then sent another which also didn’t arrive due to courier. They then sent another with the promise to add some extras for the inconvenience. The coffee came, however nothing extra for the inconvenience. When my wife emailed them about this she didn’t get a response. Although the courier problem is not directly their fault, they should have ensured the next packages came successfully and shouldn’t promise to include extras but then don’t honour this, while also ignoring customer emails after.

Assembly consistently roasts incredible coffees and is always releasing new and exciting options. What really sets them apart is the level of care they put into helping people enjoy those coffees at home. Each one comes with a recommended brew recipe on their website, which is such a valuable resource — especially for home baristas. While it can be fun to experiment and tweak recipes to your own taste, it’s also daunting to risk wasting half a bag just trying to get it right. Having a solid starting point makes all the difference, and it’s something every roaster should be doing. They also go above and beyond for the coffee community. At this year’s London Coffee Festival, they ran a three-day pop-up, with the final day offering everything completely free — their full range of coffees for the event brewed in various methods, plus a free home barista masterclass. Ed, Oscar, and Lauren were super friendly and generous with their time, sharing insight into their coffees and approach. Just last week, they hosted another fantastic event at their Brixton HQ to showcase their current bean lineup. Once again, they served all their coffees for free and created a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere that really reflects their ethos. Beyond coffee, they collaborate with talented London artisans to create beautiful, unique ceramics, which they sell at very reasonable prices — another reflection of their commitment to quality, accessibility, and craft. Their HQ in Brixton is absolutely worth a visit. The atmosphere is relaxed, there’s a decent amount of seating, and of course, the coffee is excellent. I had a Sebastian Ramirez Colombian pour-over for £7, and it was just stunning — complex, balanced, and incredibly enjoyable. This is a roastery and café I’ll keep coming back to. If you love great coffee and genuine community, you won’t find better. Couldn’t recommend them more.

Google
Quality control on roasting and processing does not appear to be up to standard. In my first kilo bag from Assembly I noticed immediately that bean development was all over the place with a lot of blackened burnt beans and quakers, and more importantly I found a stone in the bag (i know this *can* happen to anyone so maybe they got very unlucky) It could be that I got very unlucky, and without knowing their processes i cant comment definitively but the QC on this bag was certainly not good. The coffee itself was fine but likely overpriced for the quality of the greens that went into it

Yelp
Decided to drop by this roastery to pick up some coffee beans as a gift for someone, and I would recommend doing so! My boyfriend has asked me to get him a particular flavor that was sold out online so I had doubts about the roastery having it. Thankfully when I arrived there, I asked the gentleman working if they had the Bumbogo coffee beans and he went rummaging through the boxes of coffee beans. Turns out there was one bag left! They do sell beans at the cafes that carry their coffee, but coming here, despite it being out of the way, was a fantastic experience and I would definitely come back in the future.
