If I wasn't moving out of Oakland, I would absolutely be renewing my lease at Assembly.
This place truly felt like home, and I'm so sad to be leaving. When I was apartment hunting, I had a very specific list of non-negotiables: in-unit washer/dryer, secure parking or a safe neighborhood (in case I had to park on the street), fully furnished with modern amenities, and absolutely no mold. Assembly met every single one! I lived in a 2B/2Ba unit with in-unit laundry. The layout was clean and modern, and I especially loved the floor-to-ceiling windows (with curtains!) that brought in so much natural light. My room was big enough to fit a full-size bed and a desk, and I had a super spacious walk-in closet. Some of my "nice-to-haves" were a gym, rooftop access, and a trash chute, and Assembly delivered on all of those too. The gym and community spaces were always clean and well-kept, and having a trash room just down the hall made everything so convenient. The trash room was also always clean and never smelled bad, which I appreciated so much. It's such a small thing but makes a big difference when it comes to everyday comfort.
Location-wise, Assembly is located on Broadway, which is a busy street, but I personally never had an issue with traffic or noise. It's also next to both Sprouts and Grocery Outlet, which made grocery shopping quick and easy. It's also near multiple AC Transit bus stops, and just a few minutes from the 580 and 980 freeways, which made getting around super convenient.
As for parking, if you're debating whether or not to pay for the garage spot, I say do it. I paid about $300 per month for parking and it was completely worth it. Before I had a spot in the garage, I was constantly stressed about finding parking. I'd have to circle 30th St, Brook St, Richmond Blvd, and Frisbie St, and there was often nothing available after 5pm. On weekends, I wouldn't want to drive anywhere because I knew I wouldn't find a spot when I got back. Since the area is close to several hospitals, a lot of nurses and hospital staff park there early in the morning, so competition for spots is tough -- especially if you're also trying to move your car because of street cleaning. 30th Street has street cleaning twice a month (Wednesdays on one side, Thursdays on the other), which makes parking even more frustrating. Once I got a garage space (it was a stacker), I finally had peace of mind. There was only one time in my entire year here where the stacker had an issue, and it was fixed by the end of the day. Management even offered to reimburse part of the rideshare cost for anyone who couldn't access their car.
Community-wise, this was one of the best parts of living at Assembly! From the beginning, Corina, the Assistant Community Manager, was so kind and helpful. She gave me my initial tour and continued to be my go-to person any time I needed support. She's incredibly responsive and genuinely cares about the residents. When I first moved in, she told me she hoped I would feel the welcoming and close-knit community here, and she was right. The maintenance staff are all so sweet and respectful, and they always say hi and ask how I'm doing. Same with my neighbors on the same floor! Everyone was kind and friendly, and I never had an issue with anyone. My upstairs neighbors were the absolute worst though! I know they have two young kids, but the noise from them running and screaming all day gave me constant headaches. The floors and walls here are thin, so noise travels. Huge shoutout to Corina for always addressing the upstairs noise issue any time I brought it up. She never ignored my concerns, which I appreciated so much. So if you do move in here, please be mindful of your neighbors. Stomping and yelling really do travel through the walls and floors.
There is on-site maintenance, and they super responsive. Any time I submitted a request through the app, it was usually fixed the same day (within a few hours). There's also on-site security at night, which made me feel even safer.
Other highlights worth mentioning: There's a dedicated mailroom with secure package lockers, which gave me so much peace of mind. I never had to worry about package theft because the staff are quick to log and store deliveries safely. There's also Wi-Fi available in the community areas, which was great when I wanted to work outside my unit for a change of scenery. Overall, everything in the building felt clean, peaceful, and well-maintained from the shared spaces to the little things like the trash room, which was always spotless and never smelled bad.
Final thoughts: If you're looking for a safe, modern apartment in Oakland with friendly staff, great amenities, grocery stores right next door, and easy access to both public transit and freeways, Assembly is an amazing choice!!
