Google
My family has made it a weekly tradition of stopping by Assenti’s every Friday afternoon to make fresh pasta that evening, the friendly service is impeccable and the pasta is always amazing. The only downside is we can no longer justify spending money eating out because we know we can do it better at home. 10/10 would highly recommend!

Google
Fresh, cook-at-home pasta is world-class. Sauces are delicious. People are friendly and helpful guides. Curated selection of high quality meats, cheeses, wine, oil and other Italian culinary goods. Small, premade muffuletta sandwiches are a maraschino cherry on top.

Google
They stock a rare cheese that l’ve been searching for. The young lady was very polite and there is a 15 minute parking space available in front, I noticed a huge variety of fresh made pasta and nice selection of Italian food products. A definite return to store.

Google
Awesome slice of Italian heaven in San Diego. For locals and those with a full kitchen, go right to Assenti’s and buy some fresh pasta and all the fixings for great Pomodoro. The proprietor was kind to share local recommended Italian restaurants.

Google
Everything here is fantastic. The spaghetti, penne, and ravioli are all great. Nice, small selection of cheese and other imported goods as well. My family won't hardly eat boxed pasta any more.

Google
Assentis’ has the best pasta I’ve had in my entire life! Their Italian grocery-like aisles are amazing and the service is wonderful!! I love Tony and he is always so helpful, knowledgeable, and pleasant to encounter upon walking in. This fresh Italian food market deserves 10 stars.

Google
This review is a little late in posting.. ordered fresh uncooked ravioli a few years back for Xmas during COVID. The service was amazing and the ravioli was absolutely delicious and they even delivered to my car out front (social distancing). I moved away for a bit and I’m back and I will definitely go back here! They also have a huge selection of cheese, wine etc

I love buying fresh made pasta from Assenti’s Pasta in Little Italy. So far, we have tried the Chipotle, Garlic Basil, & Spinach. I discovered this gem about 6 years ago, and have not found one like it. They have many different options available. In my opinion, the price per pound is good for the quality that is received. They have wine, cheese, and bread too. Pick up a brochure before you leave (very handy) to look at other options, cooking times, and recipe suggestions. The next time I shop at Assenti’s, I will be buying the chocolate and black w/squid ink pasta.

Yelp
Assenti's has it figured out. They're an interesting place for tourists to visit; a cute shop for creative daters; and a source of excellent homemade pastas, cold cuts, sausages and other Italian delicacies. To be honest, it's been since before COVID since I shopped at Assenti's, because I buy most of my supplies online, and I make my own pasta, but if those things weren't true, I'd definitely be a regular customer of the friendly, well-stocked shop. Stop in, and buy what you're missing!

Yelp
Fresh pasta was amazing!! We also got the meat sauce, which had a very light, fresh taste to it! Obsessed, can't wait to come back and try the lasagna!! We also tried the mushroom cream sauce which was also delicious but not nearly as good as the meat sauce. You can taste the quality! YUM!

Yelp
Assenti's pasta is wonderful. I like coming to get fresh pasta, it makes a huge difference when making dinner. I love that they offer many different flavors as well as cuts/shapes of pasta. Assenti's also has a wonderful deli with some of the best mortadella with pistachios. It's my favorite deli meat they offer. I recently discovered the small sandwiches in the cooler area. I fell in love with the garlic oil that is added to the bread. These sandwiches are great for a snack and I like to add some of the mortadella to it as well. The gentlemen working here are always so friendly and welcoming, they make you feel welcome and appreciate your business. This is my favorite pasta store to visit. I just wish parking was a bit easier.

Yelp
This is the best place in Little Italy I Stop by and dinner is Done Absolute best Quality best Pasta

Yelp
We love this place!!! This is our go to place for homemade everything Italian. The quality of the food is absolutely amazing! They have recipe recommendations as well and they came out amazing. I would recommend the Italian sausage and fettuccine pasta. Wow! All of the staff was very helpful and friendly as well!

Yelp
For those who enjoy cooking at home, Assenti's delivers high quality pasta. So far, I've tried the black squid linguini and spaghetti. The pasta is fresh and soft with a delicious flavor. From their freezer, I've eaten their eggplant parmesan. I just purchased their frozen lobster ravioli and am looking forward to trying it. I know I won't be disappointed. Service was always quick and friendly on two separate visits. The store isn't large, but it's spacious, clean, bright and well organized.

Yelp
Amazing shop for all your Italian cooking needs. Everything is excellent quality. Fresh pastas Fresh cheese Tomato sauce Calabrian chilis Italian Meats Olives You name it It's family owned by the nicest people so you'll leave having an excellent experience.

Yelp
Not only was I unsure if the business was open, due to the lights being so dim and the open sign not on. But upon walking into the store I am faced with Mussolini's fascist flag being proudly displayed on their wall. As an Italian American this is absolutely shocking and concerning.

Bill G.

Yelp
I bought some pasta. The young man behind the counter was impolite. I said hello, no response, paid I said Thank you, no response. I wouldn't have left a review if this was the first time. Poor customer service and no manners.

Yelp
High quality Italian specialty food products. I no longer live in the San Diego area but every time I come through town, most recently yesterday, I stop here for ingredients that I want to have in my kitchen. Their pancetta and guanciale are very good. Family-owned business. Thanks always Roberto.

Yelp
MY FAVORITE ITALIAN MARKET IN LITTLE ITALY (5 stars) They are the first market I go to for Italian items I need for my kitchen or in search of ingredients. I want them to have my business first! It's smaller than the others in the radius and right across the street from the over popular one. It's the "underdog" with probably the best things. I make my own fresh pasta noodles BUT they sell the freshest pasta noodles out of all the markets in the area. They offer canned stuff, fresh cheese, pizza dough, deli cuts, etc. The reason I speak highly of this place is because they are a small business, freshest goods, same two employees, and their customer service is fkn (excuse my language) phenomenal. If they don't offer an ingredient or item I am looking for they don't shun you away from finding what you need. They recommend places (other markets in little Italy and outside of little Italy) to look for it. It's not about money to them, it's about giving their customers what they need even without having the item. They have been so kind to me 2x I been here seeking something they don't have (or no longer carry) and always give me the best recommendations to find what I'm seeking. For that, they will have my business first and foremost and I hope my follow base comes here and buy their fresh made pasta noodles. Good people get my business. Will always return!!!

Yelp
Assenti's pasta is a staple in Little Italy, whether you want a nice piece of imported cheese or freshly made pasta and sauce, this place feels like family. They go above and beyond to help you out and make you feel welcome! The shop is inviting, and has everything you could need in a small Italian family owned grocery store. It has so much character and family history! We love Assenti's Pasta!
google avatar

Yelp
When the simplicity of preparation, meets the complexity of flavors, my mind was absolutely blown! By my good fortune, I stumbled upon Assenti's pasta after meeting the owner, Roberto. He was so helpful when I asked for suggestions. You see the kind of light come into his eyes that only happens when someone truly loves their work. Thanks you so much Roberto, for introducing us to your amazing food! Fan for life!

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. They always have what you need to make a fantastic Italian dinner. Make sure you pick up some fresh pasta. It's amazing

Yelp
The only place for fresh pasta, delicious artisan goodies and prepared foods!! They also have a fully stocked deli-wonderful cheeses and meats. If you go early, you might be able to snag a parking spot right in front of the shop.
google avatar

Yelp
The best and most fresh handmade pastas! I can actually eat the pasta from here and not feel bloated and sleepy afterwards. The sauces are amazing as well as the cheese! I love this place!

Yelp
This place is amazing! I love coming here and buying what I need for a good pasta night. I really like there Lemmon basil noodles, but honestly every pasta they make is delicious! They have a great selection of cheeses and it's an awesome family own business. They always provide great service. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Best place in SD to get your fresh pasta for cooking! I personally like their Bucatini and Perciatelloni to make cacio e pepe.

Yelp
Friend is a huge fan of Assenti's so he recently took me here after the farmers market on Sat. He usually buys the fresh pasta here. And said Assenti's also supplies pastas to local restaurants. The store isn't too big and there was one staff working that day. There was a small line. Friend purchased fresh pasta, olives, frozen sauces, and some prosciutto. He asked the guy to slice me a sample of the prosciutto and wow - it was pretty darn delicious. Better than the parma version I usually purchase at Costco. I can't wait to try their pastas and sauces!
google avatar

Yelp
Best pasta in San Diego. I drive from North county here because it is just worth it. Also recommend buying their semolina flour and making pasta at home. I like their small grocery section and mini sandwiches. No other Italian deli like this one in SD

Yelp
Great spot for fresh pastas, frozen treats, and cheeses. The staff was friendly and overall a nice little shop. I grabbed some of the fresh pastas and some of the raviolis. Both have been amazing!!! Even got a little sandwich for $1.50. Not going to lie it was really good and helped heal the hungry I got commuting back home! Ha

Yelp
On our most recent trip from Los Angeles to San Diego we came across Assenti's Pasta for the first time the day before we were to returnn home. Surprisingly because we've visited San Diego's Little Italy for many years. Oh well. Anyway we stopped by of the morning on our way back, to insure freshness. We purchased mild and spicy Italian sausage and four different types of pasta. Got back early enough to make pomodoro sauce with Rigatoni and pan fried sausage. We were really truly impressed. The only thing that could have made it better is if we had used our own homemade sauce from this summers garden tomatoes. This is the first time I've enjoyed fresh home style made pasta from a specialty pasta store ever after many years of searching. And the same can be said for the sausage. I grew up in the Italian section of Oakland California fifty years ago when around Lake Merritt every other store was an Italian deli. All long gone, what a shame. Everyone should fortunate to have this place. My only regret I don't live around the corner from this fabulous store. My many years of searching is over. Years ago the best Italian sausage in Los Angeles could only be had at FAZIO's market. To long ago for most of you to remember. When perfect sausage wasn't ground through a meat grinder but chopped by hand. Those were the days. I can guaranty you won't find it any better than this. And as to the attitude of the help as some people have mentioned, all that New Jersey attitude that ticks you off goes into making the real deal. Relax, enjoy the Authentic mom and pop store and atmosphere from days long pass and the crude help. Which all makes it special.

Yelp
Got some of their pasta through this vendor at the Hillcrest Farmer's Market and it was so good! Got the Garlic Basil linguine. We decided to try it with an Alfredo sauce and some seasoned chicken thighs cut into strips (we made and seasoned ourselves) and it was absolutely amazing. Hands down better than some of the pasta I've had at some of the restaurants I've been to. The fresh, flavored pasta is an absolute game changer and I highly recommend getting their pasta and trying it. It will add five levels to what you're doing already with supermarket pasta. Yes, the price tag of $8 isn't that great compared to $1, but for the convenience and depth of flavor, I'll take the $8 any day. I definitely look forward to visiting the location in person. Thank you for some of the best pasta I've ever had!

Yelp
I wanted to offer something different for New Year's party fiesta extravaganza So this year I chose ravioli. I found this gem on Yelp because they have lots of Ravioli. I've never cooked ravioli but that was not a problem here. I told the gentleman at the front counter what I wanted to do and he help me put the correct sauce with the ravioli. He had all these cooking hacks to make sure my ravioli kept its Integrity. There is a 7 day refrigeration on fresh pasta I was 3 days till cook time. I followed what he said to do but where I messed us was I have a convection stove top. So my heat up is much faster. Luckily I did a test and was only cooking three ravioli(I) I made Calculated adjustments and all the other Packages of ravioli came out great. We had our fill and then some and the sauce was amazing. I tip my hat to the man who helped me pull off an amazing New Year's feast. So many colors to this Ravioli very cool.

Yelp
Week 1 of our Stay at home pandemic quarantine, we could not find any pepperoni anywhere. We were able to go in and get some survival things to keep the kids busy to make their own pizza & sandwiches here. When you have quality ingredients, it's simple to have easy meals with : 1. Pepperoni 2. Fresh pasta 3. Thinly sliced mozzarella 4. Prosciutto Thank you for serving the community and keeping things clean, wiped down, and friendly. We will be back for sure. Our home sandwiches were so delicious.

Yelp
Friends gifted me some fresh pasta from here. I am not even a pasta person. Or so I wasn't. It is DELICIOUS! Restaurant quality pasta at home. Only takes a minute to cook in boiling water. Their pesto is amazing. I've been enjoying making other sauces too, like mascarpone cream sauce. Yum! I'll be a regular buyer from this cute little gem now.

Yelp
Assenti's pasta is amazing! Their homemade pasta is fresh and great in soups and as a main course, they have tons of imported products from Italy and they have products that I couldn't find anywhere else in California. Bring from NY, Assenti's makes me feel at home! They also carry fresh guancale for carbonara and amitrciana!!!
google avatar

Anthony K.

Yelp
The freshest of fresh pasta, made in the store daily, coupled with friendly and cheerful employees. Plenty of imported Italian food, included produce, cheese, and you name it. It's nice to just stroll inside, but you will be tempted to buy something. They have small $1.50 salami and cheese sandwiches.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're an East coast transplant looking for an Italian market like back home in New Jersey or New York, stop looking. You've found it. Assenti's is a family-owned, authentic neighborhood Italian market. It's an artisanal pastificio with light, springy fresh homemade pastas and sauces. There's also homemade black linguine made with squid ink, and ravioli & other filled pastas. It's also a salumi (or charcuterie), offering a broad selection of Italian cold cuts and cured meats. There's also homemade sausages, Italian cheeses, fresh crusty semolina bread and a good selection of Italian wines. For the pantry, there are imported canned goods, jars of peppers, pesto spreads & sweets. They even have fresh cannoli shells & homemade cannoli filling. I haven't tried any of the premade lasagnas or eggplant parm in the freezer. Something I look forward to, as they all looked pretty good. And I also liked the touchless payment via Apple Pay.

Yelp
I called the shop, they said they are open until 5. I called and told them I would be arriving close to closing time. They said come! I showed up and doors were locked. Employees inside were obviously done with their day... did not respond to multiple guests at door.... Why did they tell me to still come and I'd be ok as long as it was before 5? I came before 5pm and doors were locked and employees ignored everyone at the door. I've been told their pasta is wonderful. ‍. As a heads up, Come half an hour before close.... They close BEFORE FIVE. 4:50 won't cut it even when you speak to the employees who say they'll be here. 2 stars because I hear it's great but would've preferred to not waste time showing up to be locked out; PRIOR TO CLOSING TIME. TELL ME YOU CLOSE AT 4:30 if you're not open until FIVE! SMH

Yelp
Came here when I went to SD to visit my sister pasta and meat selection are amazing. Always check their IG as their weekly pasta offering change. Impressed my sister's boyfriend with the pasta we got from here and he kept begging us for the recipe. The pasta is quality and if you are coming from LA like we were mKe sure to bring a refrigerated bag. I'd did keep well for the ride home and freezes well. This is a special treat you can have at home and it doesn't compare to store bought stuff. They do have a small grocery where we were also able to buy durum flour and we made our own pasta at home as well. Hubby stated that it was quality stuff and he was better able to handle this dough. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
If you want to shop for pasta, this is the place. Supplier to most of the restaurants. Excellent quality and great staff.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
I got a found of fresh pasta, I forget the flavor... something with pepper in it? But it was literally the best pasta I've ever had. At first I was a little taken back paying $9 for pasta when I could get some for $1 at the grocery store, but this is 5-star restaurant quality pasta. $9 and you can feed your family a meal that would normally cost $100 at a restaurant. So delicious and so fresh!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
After falling in love with fresh pasta after buying fresh pasta at a farmer's market and cooking it at home, I wanted to hunt for more fresh pasta vendors! This place is directly across Mona Lisa Italian Foods, for reference. As I arrived, the gentleman at the cashier greeted me in a friendly manner and told me to tell him if I had any questions. This place is a clean, cute little market; not only can you buy fresh pasta here, but you can buy deli goods, bags of fresh basil, frozen ravioli, cheeses etc. I bought two packs of linguine, about 7 bucks each, which isn't bad as, I'd say, each pack has about 4-5 very filling servings. Great for quick dinners as you dunk the pasta for about 45 seconds in boiling water, drain the pasta, and it's done cooking! My tip for the linguine though is to mix a little olive oil or some pasta sauce into it right after it's drained, otherwise it tends to quickly stick together into one big clump. If you've only cooked pasta from a box, I really recommend you to head to this place and get a pack of fresh pasta to try out!
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
I am very fortunate to live close to Assenti. I pop by for fresh pasta a few times a month. I don't think anything compares to having fresh pasta. The employee's are always nice, patient, and helpful. I don't think I've ever had a negative experience in the 5 years I've been their customer. I especially like that you do custom orders pasta with a minimum order of 5 pounds. Being vegan, this is an especially nice service so that I don't have to resort to dried for other pasta shapes.

Yelp
I finally had a chance to make it to Assenti's before they closed. They typically close up shop at 6pm on weekdays and if I get out before 6 from work it's a slow day and then it's probably a 15 or so minute walk. They stock a variety of fresh pastas, stuffed pastas, meatballs, and house made sauces amongst other Italian grocery items. On this trip I picked up the garlic bread, the fresh angel hair pasta and the meat sauce. The garlic bread was good. It is a full loaf so it is a pretty good portion size. The bread was very thick and I prefer a crispier bread typically, but the garlic/butter ratio that they used was very good. I added some mozzarella cheese to the top of one portion just to try it out. Still delicious. The meat sauce was ok. It's probably a part of my expectations. As I was picturing more meat in it. More like a "grandma's bolognese" style. That was my mistake. Still the sauce was good and better than store bought jars and cans. The angel hair pasta was good. It had a slightly different quality to it then dried pastas. And I found it is slightly addictive. Well after I was full, I kept reaching for another mouthful. Make sure you ask them how long you should cook the pasta for. If I hadn't and tried to cook it like dried pasta it would have been a disaster. I will definitely come back and try out a different sauce and more of their fresh pastas.

Yelp
Best place in San Diego for pasta! They make their own pasta! Everything they make is incredible! If you have not been here yet bless yourself by going! The cappelletti is legendary! Such a rare pasta to find and even more rare is it done properly. They are the masters of cappelletti!
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down the best around! These dudes have mastered the craft and it really is the best pasta you can buy! I love everything about this place.. the kids freak over this pasta! And so do I! I highly recommend stocking the freezer when you visit! Dont forget the deli case! Chick/mozz sausages.. Pepper poppers.. real prociutto.. Ravioli's.. I could go on and on.... If youve never been here you really need to go! Insanely tasty food!!!

Yelp
Great little pasta and deli shop with all the rest goodies that come with an Italian market as this one. I stopped in looking for some jarred pesto spread and anything else that would strike my interest. As I browsed, I found many items that struck a my interest like the six packs of Peroni beckoning to purchase, and the imported Perugia chocolate, which I broke down and purchased the dark chocolate with almonds (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/assentis-pasta-san-diego?select=fcauCuOnZCoxio4ky4afZA#ay1L-RZF_q-UxBLJfQW2SA). Finally, after starring at the Parma and San Daniele Prosciuto (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/assentis-pasta-san-diego?select=fcauCuOnZCoxio4ky4afZA#fcauCuOnZCoxio4ky4afZA), I noticed a small bottle of truffle oil, oil that I have tried, but never owned my own bottle, so I picked one up. Now I need to find some recipes that require truffle oil (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/assentis-pasta-san-diego?select=fcauCuOnZCoxio4ky4afZA#KcCZMe9qR_Px_O74rIT-SA). As most people know, they are famous for their freshly made pastas. In fact, many of the patrons that came to the store were readily purchasing pasta. I will save that for anther day, given I was only purchasing non perishables, since I was not heading home right away. The employees are very hospitable and willing to provide advice to your cooking needs. Great little store in the heart of Little Italy.
google avatar

Julie C.

Yelp
They are a shop where you pick up gourmet food. The homemade pasta is amazing. I especially like the mixed herb. The whole wheat is excellent too. The owner is very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Mickela P.

Yelp
Wonderful selection of fresh pasta! My first time in, and I asked if they had fresh gnocchi - I didn't have the time to make it myself and mass-produced gnocchi is not great. They only had frozen but he explained that they make it fresh every 10 days, and anything not sold that first day gets frozen. While I was there, there was a guy bringing out trays of fresh long noodles. I quickly paid for the gnocchi (and a bag of lobster ravioli) before I started buying up pounds of pasta! I will definitely be back for my next pasta dish. Nothing beats fresh pasta!
google avatar

Annisa M.

Yelp
This place is the bomb! Go get your pasta, make a great sauce (or not!! It's that good. Good enough to quickly boil and top with a great evoo and some fresh pecorino, fresh black pepper - mwahh) Make your own gorgeous pizza, manicotti, ravioli -- so impressed and grateful for this Little Italy gem. ;)

Gabriela C.

Yelp
Owner of the place is very rude, found hairs in my pasta and very overpriced for the quality of the food. Not welcoming at all, didn't help with any suggestions and threw my credit card back at me once paid. Never coming back here again.
google avatar

S D.

Yelp
Best pasta we've ever had, excellent quality. And the nicest workers! Excited to come back.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
We LOVE Assenti's Pasta and was over the moon I was able to make it in before the closed today. Bought our usual and plan to go back again to grab what they were out of. I would recommend bringing cash! I had no idea there was a 3.5% credit card fee and had cash in my wallet. Adds up with big orders. Service was great and friendly as usual! We will be back soon!

Yelp
Look no further for the Best Fresh Made Pasta. I spoke with the manager and staff today. I affirmed, this (squid pasta) is the best I have ever had, and I have had squid ink pasta everyplace I go. This is a fabulous place for all kinds of fresh pasta. Keep up the great food. My favorite

Judy B.

Yelp
Yes did not go as planned. Disappointed customer. Always happy with their pastas. Branched out and bought 2 sauces pesto and Gorgonzola. Cooked pasta and plated added sauce Arron temperature. Olive oil separated and lock my throat. Returned and ask owner if I could get my money back? He said no. I asked could I pick out something else? Yes if you buy it I left the sauces on the counter and walked out Again very disappointing. Judy

Yelp
The homemade pasta and sauces are phenomenal and when I taste them I am transported back to Italy. Call or order ahead if you have a specific pasta in mind. Everything I have ever bought here has been high quality.
