I have nothing but compliments for the service and cuisine at Asso, the new Ace in Silverlake. After two unsuccessful attempts to secure a table, a third try on a slow weeknight yielded a singularly pleasurable experience. While the "phantom of pasta" flickered the array of chandeliers, the wizard of the kitchen conjured up delectable dishes. Starting with the foglie salad bearing salty kalamatas and feta alongside bitter greens in a light vinaigrette, we knew we were in for a delightful treat. We next enjoyed the lasagna, a melange of melt in your mouth noodles luxuriating in a light creamy tomato sauce featuring meatball morsels with a hint of citrus. The tagliatelle bolognese lept onto the fork to carry a slightly musky but pleasurably savory red sauce to our waiting lips. Lest we not ignore the velvety, milk chocolate mousse to crown the whole experience. One would be well served to take it all in.
