Aster House

We had our small wedding (about 35 guests) at Aster House, and it was absolutely perfect! Jeff was wonderful to work with—responsive, accommodating, and genuinely invested in making our day special. The space itself was beautiful and set the perfect atmosphere for an intimate celebration. The food was outstanding, and we heard nonstop compliments from our family and friends about how attentive and friendly the waitstaff and bar staff were throughout the night. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend Aster House as a wedding venue!

The food is incredible and the atmosphere is amazing. Such a cool space and has such a versatile vibe between the inside space and the outside patio. We had a party of 5 so we got to try a variety of things on the menu. Everything was fresh and had great flavor. Cocktails were also fantastic. While the space and food were amazing, the service was spectacular. It was my little sister’s 21st birthday and they pulled out all the stops. No detail was missed and I would come back solely for the service. Will be recommending this place to friends and family. I’m excited to return and sit out at the patio.

Love this place! It's an amazing venue with lots of seating. The menu looks incredible, the cocktails are tasty, and the staff is very friendly. Service is awesome, too. I highly recommend this place for any occasion, especially if you like happy hours. The Old Fashioned and Harry's Regret were so tasty!

The Astor House (an 1880s building) was the venue for our wedding anniversary dinner on September 28th. The old growth wood beams, beautiful stone walls and superb subdued lighting added to an unforgettable night. The staff was so accommodating and gracious to our group. They went above and beyond. The event planning was a breeze. The Hors d'oeuvres, dinner and drink were exceptional. My husband and I were married in this same building forty years ago and we were so happy to have such a magical experience again. Thank you so much.

We had a delightful dinner before heading to a show downtown. It was easy to book for our larger group online. The service was friendly and attentive. Loved the appetizers especially the lazy susan and wild rice fritters. The table ordered a variety of entrees that were all delicious. The Gouda rolls are a must add side. The portion sizes were phenomenal. And it's a charming space that fits the classic vibes of the neighborhood.

Aster House was an amazing restaurant to host our 25+ guests for our wedding reception dinner. The space is beautiful inside and out, and the food was absolutely incredible! Jeff was wonderful to work with and made organizing our event a breeze. The fantastic team at Aster House took care of all of our guests on the night of the dinner and everyone left with nothing but positive things to say. I highly recommend booking Aster House!

If I could give it 10 stars I would. Getting to it was easy, parking was simple and safe, and the atmosphere was a scene from a movie! The absolute perfect date night!

This is a very chic restaurant. I came here for the first time yesterday and enjoyed my experience. The wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I ordered the Fresh Gouda Dinner Rolls, Fall Greens, Confit Chicken Roll, and the Marinated Ratatouille. My coworkers ordered the Trout as well as the pork chop. The food arrived very fast and everything was delicious. I love the atmosphere with the dim lighting and brick mansion vibes. I probably wouldn’t return due how limited the menu is. Even though I enjoyed my food, it was pretty basic, nothing memorable. This is a really cool hangout spot if you are in the area and looking for a more upscale vibe.

We sat outside when it was 90 degrees and it was still lovely! the servers did their best to tilt the umbrellas to block the sun as much as possible (without us even asking) and kept our water glasses filled. We enjoyed delicious cocktails (I had the Hug Me Hugo) and wine with our appetizer of Gouda Rolls. My main of the farro mushroom risotto was absolutely amazing, and the other diners were happy with their chickpea burger, steak and fish (but I thought mine was the best, haha). The peach summer salad was a bit underwhelming, but all of the food was good. Would definitely go back. The patio is dog-friendly!

Aster House was fantastic! I started with the Huckleberry Highball, a vodka-based drink that was light, refreshing, and just $13. For my meal, I had the Steak Frites. The steak was incredibly tender, and the seasoning was perfect. I did wish there was a bit more sauce, but otherwise, I would definitely order it again. My friends tried the Swedish Meatballs, which were flavorful, comforting, and even gluten-free. It was hard to pick a favorite because both dishes were so good. Our server was attentive and checked on us multiple times to make sure we were happy. He even surprised my friend with a dessert for her birthday, which was such a sweet touch. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, perfect for a girls' night out or a date. The lighting is cozy, and the tables aren't overcrowded, which makes the space feel intimate. One thing to note is that parking can be a challenge. We ended up in a ramp about an eight-minute walk away, so plan accordingly. Overall, I'll definitely be back. Amazing food, great drinks, and excellent service!

We really enjoyed this meal. The farro risotto was my favorite! It was perfectly seasoned, and I'm a sucker for mushrooms! The salmon was moist with a nice crispy top, it too was seasoned great! I wasn't a huge fan of the potato puree. I was worried we might not get in... but there is ALOT of space here, especially if the patio is open.

Location can't be beat. We had a dog as part of our party so we had to sit on the patio, which was brand new and well shaded considering the heat. Service was great and helpful, very accommodating. The food was a nice selection for the summertime, the Steak Frites absolutely hit the spot and the wine selection perfectly complemented the food. Cocktails were great as well, I had the Tiki Tingler which was a really interesting take on a tropical cocktail. The inside looked beautiful, can't wait to go back and check out the interior seating.

Aster House left me quite ambivalent towards its food, ambiance and service, making this a challenging restaurant for review. Initially stepping into the curtained entrance, Aster House is spacious, moody and beautiful. In the same vein, it's disjointed, cold and sparse. Seated close to the entrance, I remained in my jacket the entire evening due to the chill that permeated the space. The walls are a mix of materials and scattered plants appear misplaced amongst long hanging, golden light fixtures. It felt as if we were back stage at a play, where props are left haphazardly about the floor. The bar, nestled in the back corner, looked stately, but with the dark lighting, it took time for my eyes to adjust enough to make out even the larger details. I will save the food for last and move to the service piece of the evening. Our waiter was kind but impeccably formal, if not overly so. When questioning between two smaller plates to share, they mentioned both being "the best we have" and proceeding to write down our order without reviewing other recommendations. We felt rushed, yet their formality made it feel like we were the ones at fault. After our two small dishes (see below), our waiter came back to take our main entree orders. Similarly, they stated the chicken was superior to the pork chop, although the pork chop was larger in size (agree with portion size, differing opinion on superiority). We then waited, and waited, and waited. About thirty minutes later, one of our dining mates remarked - there is no food coming out of the kitchen?! It was true. Every table was bare, save for cocktails, water, or wine. Shortly after this remark, our waiter came back around. I don't recall their exact words but it started with an apology, mentioning the kitchen being backed up after just having received a large order. They asked if I had ordered the pork chop, right? And then apologized again, offering no time frame for when to expect our delayed dishes. As we looked around, there was no table larger than six, and it didn't appear as the space was brimming with activity. After another twenty minutes, our food arrived, somewhat warm but very tasty. Pork chop: bone in, thick cut with excellent flavor and just the right amount of fat, this was one of the better pork cops I've consumed. Underneath the healthy portion size were salty, vibrant butter beans with small pieces of stewed kale. A rich and hearty dish. Steak: a cut of prime New York strip, this was my favorite bite of the meal, leaving me wishing I had ordered it for myself. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, with decadent butter pooling on top, this was executed to perfection, and at a very reasonable price. Chicken: certainly the smallest portion size, this little bird came to our table a bit dry and a bit cold. I didn't find the skin to be crispy and the cabbage and dijon cream accompaniment were lacking flavor and vibrance. Skip. Aforementioned smaller plates: Wild Rice Fritters boasted a light and crispy exterior with piping hot, creamy wild rice to fill their center, almost like fried wild rice soup. The Chicken Liver Toast left much to be desired. A sad piece of floppy bread was spread thin with watered down, flavorless chicken liver. The sliced onions were the only redeeming quality. I would say a definite miss. I write this review not to dissuade you from trying Aster House, because I think their main entrees are worthwhile, and if you like a dark atmosphere, it may be for you. I just wish they had been upfront with why our meal took over an hour after ordering. I also believe the chicken entree and chicken liver toast were genuinely poorly executed. Go for the steak and pork chop, and bring an extra layer!

I can only base this initial experience on ambiance and drinks. 10/10. The lighting and exposed brick, and wood are an absolute dream. I immediately was blown away. It was so warm and inviting. The fresh snow, and beautiful Christmas music helped. Sat at the bar , and ordered the Oaxacan Old Fashioned. It was amazing!! Two different bartenders made them, and they both tasted fantastic (thanks Jonathan). Me and my guest ordered the Gouda rolls, and they were delightful. Can't wait to go back and have a full dining experience. Looove this place!

Second time at Astor House. First time was for cocktails on the patio and second time was for dinner on the patio. I love the food, ambience drinks, and service. There was music on the patio. It was festive and fun and not too loud. Shout out to Annika for being a great server last night.

Super cute spot! I went here on a perfect patio day and wanted to be outside - but the cuteness inside made it easier to sit inside! Definitely feels like a spot that you need to cozy up with an old-fashioned in the winter time. Tasty food and great cocktails - there's a stage for live music and an upper mezzanine level with tables. No outdoor patio seating and parking is paid on the street.

We ate here for the first time tonight and our food was beautifully prepared and presented! The atmosphere is old world charm with stone walls, soft lighting and lovely mood music. Still to come is a speak easy in the basement and a live music venue in the restaurant. We will be back!

Went for Valentines Day. Hard to see the photo - that's four empty glasses and two dirty plates. Service was atrocious. Food was like a nice wedding reception/catering menu. I asked if I could get my tenderloin medium well, and server said the chef pre made everything. For $100 a person, I couldn't even get my beef prepared to order. They didn't have a large enough coat check so they couldn't take our jackets. The front lobby was missing a rug so all of the snow was all over. So many better options in the vicinity. If you're trying to impress, just try something else. Decor was cool, but that's about it.

If you are a sucker for early 20th century buildings turn modern day hang out. Don't walk... run! Because this might just be one of my favorite new restaurants in the Twin Cities. We came on a snow emergency day hence the lack of people but that didn't stop us from receiving top notch fast service and experiencing great vibes. All the food was incredible. The Gouda rolls are so warm and cheesy you don't even need the butter 10/10. The steak was a perfect medium and I loved not only the presentation but also the taste of the sour cream potato's. I wanted to keep eating it. 10/10. Dessert we shared two, the flourless chocolate cake and the banana toffee pudding. These were equally tasty I can't even say which one was better. I will be back next time to enjoy the bar which is absolutely stunning! A+ all around here.

We've given the Aster House two tries now, but alas, I am afraid we won't be returning. It's too bad, because the service is attentive and the historical ambience of the building feels tailor-made for a special occasion. The food, however, is very disappointing. This time we tried the charcuterie board, which was a carelessly plated hodge-podge of cheese cubes, bland sausage and crackers, and supposedly pickled vegetables that included what looked and tasted like store-bought mini carrots doused in vinegar. As for the entrees, all the meat dishes were overdone, including a pork tenderloin cooked to dryness and accompanied by mustard greens that were sloppy to the point of inedible. An earlier reviewer compared the food to what you might receive at a wedding reception. That's a good description of what it felt like to us, except that I have had some better wedding-reception meals. On a final note, the credit card surcharge on the bill is tacky. I know some restaurants do this instead of building the fee in, but very few places claiming to be higher-end restaurants do. Sadly, it fits the larger sense that this restaurant, despite its potential, isn't ready for prime time.

Thank * you * Aster House. Do you know how long it's been since my husband and I went out to dinner and experienced a meal (and atmosphere) that was better than what we can make @ home? It's been years, as cooking is a passion of mine and restaurant food quality is diminishing. We had all but stopped going out because it has been a perpetual letdown. A client told me how special this new restaurant "Aster House" is so we thought we'd get dressed up and give it a go. From the gorgeous dinnerware (we shamelessly oohed and aahed over the little pink plates for sharing food) to the belly warming house old fashioned, the wild caught trout to the toffee dessert, this* place *is exceptional. I can tell the owners put a lot of effort into every little detail! I selfishly love that it's not too busy of a restaurant yet. We got a seat right away on a Saturday evening. We thought about eating inside because it was such a unique vibe, but we opted for the patio being that perfect weather in Mn must be enjoyed. We will be back to experience the interior restaurant this fall! Thank you Aster House!

Location and ambiance are both ten out of ten. Great vibe and beautiful exterior views. We walked from downtown across the river and it was perfect. The food is just okay. Nothing impressed us that much other than their pomme frites - those were amazing. The chicken thighs were tasty but nothing special. The cabbage salad that came with the chicken was bland. My wife had the trout and it was rather dull as well. Overall service was excellent. We'd probably go back if for some reason we were nearby but wouldn't make a special trip to do so.

Good atmosphere, good service, awesome burger and starters. Maine are pretty good and drinks are generous and well made. Worth a visit.

We arrived for our reservation, and were seated quickly. The interior is beautiful and unique. There was a delay in a server coming to our table (the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars). Once the server realized the delay, everything came quickly. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the banana toffee pudding for dessert!

The food is beautiful and there are many gluten free options. The atmosphere is amazing! I always sit at the bar, but the dining room looked enchanting, as well. Great service and style!!

honestly not that great. just an average spot but for the price it's not worth it in my opinion. was looking forward to the bread and it really disappointed unfortunately. the rice balls were good probably the highlight of the meal. the chicken and steak were just average. nothing i would need to come back for.
