"While Astoria has a fair number of bakeries, including the stately hangout spot Blue Scorcher and little takeaway Naked Lemon, the Astoria Coffee House fills the small-town niche of the cafe with all-day menus and eclectic decor (don’t miss the vintage globes). Visit this charming bistro for morning pastries and coffee concoctions on one side of the cavernous building. Later in the day, grab a bar seat, booth, or spot outside at a sidewalk table for a casual lunch of sandwiches or dinner from a menu that features globally inspired dishes. There are always burgers, salads, and pasta, but you’ll also find specials like taco and tequila Tuesdays or sushi Mondays in summer." - Jennifer Burns Bright, Alex Frane

We had a delicious and delightful dinner. Erin was our server. Our cocktails were tasty and the food was truly delicious!! Menu is eclectic. Highly recommend the Gyoza and the chicken sandwich!! Grab some pastries on your way out the door!! We had them at midnight and WOW!! Best carrot cake ever!! So moist and flavorful!!

Stopped in for a quick bite on a cold winters day and this place did not disappoint! We weren’t super starving so we decided to split the butternut squash soup, which was absolutely the right call. It was hot, hearty, and plenty for two people to share - they even gave us extra sourdough bread. The cafe is super cute and linked to a cocktail bar with extra seating on the left and a local retail store on the right with even more seating and super cute local/handmade souvenirs. Overall this place was great and I definitely recommend. Thanks, Astoria Coffee House & Bistro!

Update May 2025: turns out we can also sit in the next door business. They have overflow seating. I wish this was clearly marked somewhere. We've been here 5 or 6 times now. We usually come around noon. Croissants are usually sold out by then. The other pastries are usually very dry and bland. I don't understand why they're not stocking up more on croissants since it clearly seems to be a popular product. Initial review early 2025: Perfect place for a coffee and some pastries. Update: only 3 seats inside this time. We paid good money for some pastries and then had to go eat them outside in the cold because there was no seating indoors. I'm very sad now that I paid so much tip for no service at all :((

Google
Cool spot for people-watching or carry-out to your hotel. GIANT portions. Try the burgers, potato-wedge-fries, and good ketchup. Curry chicken salad is fantastic. Super-friendly folks.

Google
This place has gone downhill quite a bit since the last time we were here a few years ago. They don't do table service, the line gets so long and slow, they only have 2 brunch drink options even though there's a full bar in the restaurant. $12 pre-mixed bloody or $12 pre-mixed mimosa, which is mostly orange juice. The food was fine but not great. I really regret tipping 25% since I literally did all the work besides cooking the food. I try not to bash small businesses, but I miss when this place was functioning better. Pictured: biscuits & Gravy and the Vegan hash with real eggs on top and an overpriced mimosa and a bloody mary. These 2 tiny bowls of food and 2 drinks with a 25% tip was almost $70!!!!! Insane.

Google
I love a place with good Vegan options; food was very good! Counter service, street parking, smells like good coffee. Friendly staff, good service in general, water station and clean bathrooms. There’s also a cute shop, and a bar. We tried the Squash soup, tempeh wrap and tacos. Very good meal and walkable place.

Google
Wow! What a find! Deserves 5 stars. Happened upon it accidentally and felt like this was the highlight of our trip. Food: excellent! Had scallops (perfectly cooked) and salmon—yum! our friend who is vegan had a great black bean burger (had avocado on it, fries were GF with house made Smokey ketchup ). Drinks and wine were top notch. They even had gluten free dessert. Some of the tables are in a bar like atmosphere, some in the middle cafe portion and some in a very eclectic import shop. Go here—you WONT be disappointed!!!! I’ll be back! (PS a local told us they come here twice a week it’s so good)

Google
Cute shop, but wasn't impressed with the food. I got the bagel and lox, which came disassembled with 2 small slices of cream cheese (barely enough to cover the bagel), 3 very thin slices of salmon (also barely enough to cover the bagel), a lot of spinach and red leaf lettuce (when the menu said greens, I was expecting more like microgreens), a lot of red onion, some tomato, and some capers on top(which quickly did their best to hide under all the greens). For $16 I expected at least twice that much salmon, and maybe not having to assemble it myself.

Yelp
Stopped in on our way out from Cannon Beach, and will definitely be back! Great ambiance, great service, and delicious food.

Jennifer P.

Yelp
We picked here for breakfast for two reasons- it was in the Goonies and because they serve gluten free bagels. My kid absolutely loves lox and bagels but rarely can eat it because of celiac. But here they went above and beyond. The bagel tasted amazing and they served it with onions, tomatoes, spring mix, capers, cream cheese, lox. Everything came on the side so they could make the bagel to their liking. The caramel latte was well crafted with a cute heart on top. I had the tater tots. The menu said it came with different dipping sauces but it only came with ketchup. Which was fine because that's all I wanted. The tater tots were nice and crispy without being greasy. They were still good when I had leftovers later. I will definitely come back here

Yelp
We stopped here for breakfast on our way back to WA Place is very cool/eclectic looking. Interesting vibe with jazz music playing. Friendly staff, very good drip coffee & the food was freshly made for you and soooo good, 4 of us and we each had something different. No one was disappointed, and I grabbed an almond croissant for the road, which was very good as well. If you're in a rush, you have to be patient because it took a while for us to get our food but we were in no rush and we're very pleased with the outcome. I would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Having only limited time in the Astoria area, we wanted to try some delicious Oregon coffee. This bistro/coffeehouse was on our list, and as we drove by it looked very inviting. There was plenty of street parking on Marine Drive, and to e fact that it was almost an open air concept made us more intrigued to stop by and enjoy our coffee on the patio. There are plenty on typical coffee options, and there is a specialty coffee menu as well. There was only one lady working the shop when we arrived and not only was she incredibly friendly and helpful, she was quick in terms of service, and when we inquired about the many pastry and dessert options she told us she personally baked them that morning. This coffee shop shares walls with a couple boutiques and restaurants. The shared walls makes it feel almost like a market place or public house Some tips: Try the Pistachio Mocha. It's on the specialty menu, and it's incredible. The brownie and molasses cookie are also just tries. As there is barely seating facing he street that is open air, I suggest sitting either there or at one of the many patio seating I am somewhat of a coffee snob, and I was somewhat hesitant when seeing some of the flavors and offerings, but everything was delicious and the service outstanding. To be honest, while sitting and enjoying our coffees and treats we almost missed our flight back in Portland. *this was entirely our fault, but we were just so relaxed and we were enjoying our coffees that much that we lost track of time* Cheers!!

Katie B.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop to grab some caffeine and a snack, or by the smells of it, a deliciously garlicky bowl or sandwich. We saw many people getting food and it smelled damaging. Our coffees were great and this was the perfect spot to decompress a bit after the bus ride to Astoria.

Logan T.

Yelp
Wonderful drinks and food at this cool spot, including great treats for our veg family! We sat in the lounge area and enjoyed the vibe and the treats!

Sarah S.

Yelp
We came in for a quick chai tea and coffee to go. They have so many appetizing pastries, and they are next door to a really neat gift and art shop. We were in and out in five minutes despite it being a busy Saturday morning. We will definitely eat here next time!

Maro S.

Yelp
Tasty food & pastries, great coffees, and good service. A solid standard when in Astoria!

Nithisha R.

Yelp
This listing is unclaimed for now. I wanted you to review this coffee house because the coffee was really great here. I really love someone whose passion for coffee shows in their conversations. The barista definitely was passionate about coffee and he was giving us suggestions on the coffee notes and how to test them if we want to try something new. The service was great. Ambiance was very hippie style I would say with lot of things at inexpensive place but very interesting. All in all, do check out this place if you are around astoria and you wouldn't be disappointed at all

Alex K.

Yelp
This place has an Asian feel to it as per the furniture and inside decorations. The bar area is such a cozy and fun place to sit down and eat. It has a very old feel with plastered ceilings that are exposed in areas, metal tiles, fake deer heads, and a cooking blue paint job. The baked items looked perfect from cookies to muffins, but I didn't try them this time. If you use a credit card they charge an 18% gratuity which was fine with us. They even asked if that was ok. I would have tipped that amount or more anyway. We got a house coffee which was smooth. They had a lot of specialty delicious coffee drinks as well and milk alternatives like soy, oat, almond, hemp. The food was quite delicious and filling. Prices were reasonable given the location. Salmon hash had plenty of salmon with it too. They have a little hot sauce bar and if you like a little kick like I do, add a dab and bring out the taste further. The bagel had fried ham in it and it what so tasty. Word of warning, get some extra napkins for the bagel because it can get messy as the cream cheese oozes out. So good! They have an outdoor sitting option too and they do dinner. The sushi and wine night sounds like it would be fun. I'd come back for sure.

Tracie U.

Yelp
Dropped by because the hostess of another restaurant recommended we get some drinks while we wait for our seats. She said best bartender in town is there. And we had really delicious drinks and the pricing wasn't crazy like other places. We'll be back!

Gayl B.

Yelp
Wow, the mocha here has incredible flavor. I also had the SW chicken soup, which was delicious! They could use some additional staff but the food and coffee is worth the wait! Order at the counter only.

John B.

Yelp
We were in Astoria looking for a coffee shop and maybe some food. When we arrived around noon, the place was packed. We ordered at the counter and found two free bar stools at the bar. We ordered chicken soup, which was very tasty, and two coffees, one mocha and one latte. Both coffees were very hot and when they cooled down, very tasty. The coffee shop seemed to need more than one person at the counter as she was swamped the whole time we were there. We eventually moved outside as a table opened up. The place feels like it could use a spring cleaning or a facelift. Overall, a quaint coffee shop with a rather unusual decor. It's also a bar!

Roma M.

Yelp
Cute decor and eclectic charm for sure. Portions are AMPLE. This place is for you if you like a creamy salad. Ala mayonnaise. But you can tell the food is made with care.

Mista M.

Yelp
Chris is the best bartender on the coast. Always welcoming, always serves up an awesome the best drinks on the coast. Stop by and say hello. You won't be disappointed!

Bijana K.

Yelp
My partner and I love to visit Astoria and part of it is the consistently good food scene. It may not have as many options as Portland, but what they have is good. We decided to have breakfast here on our most recent trip and we really enjoyed it. This is a counter service cafe and restaurant which may have bar service later in the day. There is outside seating; a high counter with stools in one room; and bar seating, tables and booths in the other room. Though there is an awning for shade, the time of day determines how much sun/shade you're getting so we opted for a table in the bar room. The decor is fun and funky - I'm a huge fan of non-animal animal heads and they have a nice collection on one wall. I could definitely see this being the vibe for some fun cocktails of an evening. We got a scramble, a bagel and a coffee and shared and it was plenty of everything for us and it was a great combination. We really appreciated that they fried the ham slices on the bagel too - it really elevated the flavor. Everything was good and they brought our food out to us. I saw that some people gave low ratings for the 18% automatic gratuity - though the sign says it's automatic and it's clearly marked, the server at the counter still asked us, which I thought was great. Honestly, we all have our opinions about gratuities and I'm not going to change anyone's mind. If you wish it was build into the price, just pay it - if you don't feel like tipping when you order at a counter and bus your own table, just decline the 18%.

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
I am really disappointed. I arrived a couple minutes before 8, not knowing 8 was the opening time. At 5 minutes after 8 I knocked on the door. I saw the employees inside getting ready. Had the woman acknowledge I was waiting and took 3 seconds to walk to the door and let me know they were running a little behind, I would have totally understood. However that was not the case. As the woman in charge was opening the door I was not greeted with a thank you for your patience. I was yelled at by her , her hands smacking together and told off. She said, " just because it says we open at 8 doesn't mean I have to open at 8. I will open when I am ready. I am training a new employee and doing the baking etc." I want to believe this is a one time thing. She was just mad, overwhelmed, frustrated and impatient today. I have enjoyed Coffeehouse for 15 years. I have many friends who have wonderful things to say about Coffeehouse. The food has always been great, especially the fresh baked yummies. Maybe next time you are running behind put a note in the window. I don't believe anyone wouldn't be understanding.

Bella E.

Yelp
So you order at the counter and good luck finding a table that someone has actually wiped off. The service & slow & everyone who works there acts as if they are doing you a favor for barely doing their job. It might be worth it, if the food were good, but it's beyond mediocre, too salty, over priced & disappointing. Then to top it all off, expect you to bus your own table, even though they automatically charge you an 18% gratuity when you pay with a credit card. Trust me when I tell you there are plenty of other places to eat in Astoria.

Elijah N.

Yelp
Pleasant experience. Came for coffee, received quiet breezy atmosphere and low pressure but attentive staff. Coffee was tiptop.

Kirsten E.

Yelp
Prime rib on Fridays. Sushi on Mondays. Consistently amazing and very friendly welcome. Dad loved this place, thanks Jimbo

Janet H.

Yelp
This is an amazing little spot for coffee, pastries and food. Our chais were scalding hot, and we couldn't finish them before our show, so the loss of a star.

Roberta D.

Yelp
Food was great! Chicken salad, and chili reliant were both exceptional. And the bartending staff was really pleasant and helped me with my order. But the barista who is actually taking orders for food and - I don't know if she didn't like my mask,or didn't like the bartender helped me or what if she was so rude and nasty. I will never go back. I wish I could designate the tip that I left to go only to the bartender and the cook.

Christina M.

Yelp
Hands down the most delicious mac and cheese I have ever had! I choose to add chicken, avocado and jalapeños. Very tasty!

Stephanie Lynne S.

Yelp
We loved this place. Three different businesses connected to each other- what a great concept. Wide menu with tons of gluten free options. The coffee was awesome BTW and the gluten free almond cake was fabulous. Everybody was very nice and friendly. The decor was charming and we will absolutely come back again!

Richard G.

Yelp
Everything in Astoria is wonderful. This place adds to that feeling. Friendly casual efficient service and of course good coffee. I bought one of their mugs for home and have warm though with my hot coffee

Romero L.

Yelp
I have to say this place made my day.I came across Astoria Coffe house for coffee and order a salmon scramble .Who would ever think about making salmon with tater tots and eggs.I highly recommend for coffee and breakfast. Service was excellent. I was in and out in minutes when I placed my order.

R G.

Yelp
Delicious smoked salmon hash and vegan breakfast. Magnificent coffee of the day. Relaxing good atmosphere. The vegan chocolate muffin has a delicious frosting on top of a muffin that taste like wood shavings. I took one star off for the muffin. I can't wait to come back and try the vegan sandwich and more coffee. Filled with locals and it's close to the wonderful Curothers B&B.

Brenda P.

Yelp
I just moved to the area and this place was recommended. Talking with staff is like talking with a friend, local patrons are just as friendly. Barista recommended a drink when I told her how I like my coffee. It was perfect! Food was delicious. I will definitely be back.

Karen J.

Yelp
Consistently good! On my most-recent trip, I had the shiitake chicken bowl. Everything was super-fresh and well-flavored. Other times, I've sampled Eggs Benedict, cocktails, and their cardamom latte (with dairy-free milk). I also love the fun, funky decor: It feels like hanging out at a fellow creative's home. Only downside this time was that service was a bit slower than usual, despite similar numbers of patrons.

Eric E.

Yelp
Had dinner tonight and it was was AMAZING. Service was excellent, and the food was fresh, generous, and delicious. Will definitely be back.

Robert N.

Yelp
I have been hitting this joint since Jimbo opened. I just had another latte. It's a consistently good spot to hang out, eat and be with friends. Jimbo knows. And the Irashai cat says hello.

Judy K.

Yelp
Adequate breakfast. We went there because of the rave reviews saying it was the "best breakfast in Astoria". Not even close. Limited menu. They were out of the one item I wanted, huevos rancheros. The breakfast burrito was just... Adequate, not great. I didn't enjoy having to stand in a long slow line to order at the counter from a busy and distracted cashier. Bottom line... We were hungry. It was breakfast. But I wouldn't recommend it or return.

Sherry G.

Yelp
BEWARE: 18% MANDATORY TIP to order at the register regardless of food quality or quality of service. It's not considered 'gratuity' if it's mandatory and I'm pretty sure that this practice is illegal. What an absolutely crap business practice. If employers want to put the burden on customers, raise the price of your food. But the bottom line is you should just pay your employees a better wage.

Janet A.

Yelp
So I haven't been here since covid and was excited to go for dinner and a cocktail. It's not the same 5 star experience it used to be. Was told to order at the front counter and sit in the bar/restaurant. The bartender gives us a happy hour menu & says we can order from him. We do only to be approached by the cook saying we can't do happy hour (confusing & clearly disorganized) the cook says he'll allow it this one time. Ok...So the cocktails were ok but the regular bartender who used to work there was fantastic. The food, not so much. Shrimp & grits with sausage, thick and gritty, fried chicken sandwich, boyfriend said McDonald's new crispy chicken was better. Dinner and 2 drinks with a 20% tip $88. So disappointed.

Mari H.

Yelp
EXCELLENT!! Coffee had amazing flavors, I had a macadamia nut white mocha & my husband had a regular latte. Food was cooked to perfection & flavorful. Very pleasant staff. If this were my home this would be my go to spot, unfortunately just passing through town.

Janet I.

Yelp
Fabulous food. Great coffee. Does not look like a lot, but great choice. Definitely worth the stop!

Bryan G.

Yelp
Slow service, they need more help..30 min. Self ordering..still no food! $4.50 for 12 oz Americano too much...especially for long wait..

Chris A.

Yelp
This wonderful restaurant turned into a food cart under a roof. Your food isn't always so great, not much to choose from anymore and now we get plastic silverware, paper plates, and coffee regular coffee that cost you 5 to 7 dollars. That used to be one of my favorite restaurant when it was a real restaurant. I'll pass on this place. SAD is all I can say.

Brooke M.

Yelp
Cute little coffee and breakfast place! We ordered a pistachio mocha and a dirty chai. The pistachio mocha was amazing and I highly recommend. It was perfectly nutty yet sweet. The chai was also delicious. Both drinks were extremely hot and took a few minutes to cool down. For food we ordered the salmon scramble and the breakfast burrito. The salmon bowl came with two poached eggs in hollandaise sauce and a good amount of salmon. The tots were extra crispy just how I like. The breakfast burrito was the perfect size and was full of eggs, bacon, and salsa. The bacon could have been cooked a tish longer. If you are in the area and need a bite to eat or a bev check them out! It is just a block or two away from the pier. This place had a very good vibe.

Rachel M.

Yelp
Mediocre quality food, a long wait, subpar service, unequal treatment of their patrons, and I wasn't served my food until the rest of the party finished theirs and I got up to ask about it. I asked for a refund and was refused.

Hannah A.

Yelp
Super nice staff. Good cold brew and the brownies and breakfast sandwiches are amazing.

Richard L.

Yelp
The waitress was excellent and the menu was remarkably varied, with gluten free and vegetarian options clearly marked. Much less appealing was that virtually everything on the menu had pepper in it (not usually specified on the menu) and they were prepared with it in advance so they couldn't make it without pepper. I reluctantly ordered something (my 6th choice) so my friend could get what she wanted. To cap off the evening, there was pepper in my order too...

Brent W.

Yelp
Good location and nice to sit outside and have a coffee. I usually get a drip coffee here. The reason for the 3 star and not 4 is that they told me the total which did not include the 18% gratuity they added. They didn't show the screen or provide receipt and I saw no signage indicating they automatically add gratuity. That is dishonest.

Megan H.

Yelp
AMAZING LATTES, FOOD AND VIBES!!! I can't recommend this place enough! My husband and I had the breakfast burrito, the huevos rancheros, the parfait and a latte! So delicious! Everything was hot and tasty! If you are in Astoria or even just passing through- you MUST go here!

Joan F.

Yelp
This is our third visit here over three years--it's been a solid hit each time with fresh veggies, interesting sandwiches, outstanding coffee and a lot of choices for a variety of eaters. We like the friendly, energetic service here along with the creative, playful interior. There's not much room inside, so we gave up a booth for a couple with a new baby and opted for the counter. This place has that kind of vibe--generous and relaxed. We had iced coffees and salads--my husband added chicken to his salad. It was a generous portion with moist, well-prepared chicken. I'd add to my salad next time. The greens and veggies were flavorful and fresh, and the honey mustard dressing was perfect. Breakfast here is equally good. We'll always be back--this is our go-to spit when we're in Astoria.

Bill W.

Yelp
Randomly came here for dinner after a few other options didn't work out. If I'd seen 3.5 stars I might have decided otherwise. So glad we came here! Had the Korean stir fry and beet salad. Best meal of our trip to Astoria. Stir fry has TONS of flavor and the beets are marinated. Would gladly eat those two things again, multiple times. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Food came out quick and was freshly made. What a lucky find! Unfortunately we didn't take any photos...

Donna C.

Yelp
Terrible. I do not recommend Workers are extremely rude and then have the nerve to add 18% tip automatically onto your bill. The woman at the counter should be fired. She was terribly unfriendly and made the worst latte I ever had.

Raymond B.

Yelp
Not sure about the food yet, as I'm still waiting for it to came, 1h later. They are charging 18% extra for tips, but can't hire the necessary personnel to run a bistro smoothly. Please skip!

Ivy L.

Yelp
We were recommended this place when our friends knew we were spending the night in Astoria on our coastal road trip - we were specifically told to get the hot meatloaf sandwich. Came here on a Monday evening and was surprised at how busy it was. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks - my Moscow mule didn't taste like there was any ginger beer in it. We weren't impressed with the drinks we had. We ordered food and it took awhile for it to come out - so don't expect anything quick. But it's a laid back coastal town, so we weren't too concerned with the wait. *Hot Meatloaf Sandwich 3.5/5 - it was good. I think it could have been better if the onions and the buttery bread didn't overpower the meatloaf though. Overall, we liked it but it wasn't our favorite - though it was probably my favorite dish of the night. It also came with these large potato wedges - the bf liked them cause they weren't greasy but I thought they weren't crispy enough and a bit bland. *Clam Chowder 3/5 - was thick and also on the bland side. Bf liked it though. Nothing to rave about for me. We also caught sushi night and decided to try it cause we were on the coast and thought that local fish for sushi meant it was super fresh. *Sushi Bowl - very small for the price. Cuts of fish were disappointing. *Nigiri - I had the salmon (sake) and the eel (unagi). The rice to fish ratio was 4:1. So much rice! I've never seen such huge pieces of nigiri cause of the overwhelming amount of rice! Fish was on the lean side and a bit dry - I was hoping for thick chunky pieces of fresh fish. It needed more fat/marbling on the fish and it was also served at room temp, which was a bit concerning. I wouldn't order sushi here again. Overall, stick to their normal dishes. I wasn't impressed and probably wouldn't be back. It was also overpriced for what they served.
