The Best Sandwiches For A Park Picnic - New York - The Infatuation

"Make sure you’re going to a big group picnic if you’re bringing a sandwich from Sal, Kris, & Charlie’s Deli. Each sandwich is the size and weight of a two-liter soda, and could comfortable feed your average little league team. Our favorite is The Bomb, loaded with several pounds of pastrami, mortadella, roast beef, hot capicola, two cheeses, pickled peppers, lettuce, tomato and onions, and mayo." - willa moore, will hartman, bryan kim, sonal shah

Astoria Park - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"The outdoor movie program at Astoria Park is back starting this week. They’re kicking things off on Friday, May 14th with two hours of wondering why Lady Gaga wants to date sweaty Bradley Cooper (aka, showing A Star Is Born). It’s completely free and we’d suggest getting there before 8:15pm when the show starts. Plus, we have an Astoria snack guide with everything you need for an excellent movie-watching experience in the area. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Where to Go for a Scenic, Solo Walk in New York City

"If you’ve ever taken the northeast regional out of Penn station, you’ve whirred past Astoria Park from high above, looking down at the lush, grassy waterfront green teeming with doll-sized families, dogs, frisbee-players, joggers, cartwheelers, and picnickers in rain, shine, snow, or mist. Astoria Park is just as lovely when you're splat in the middle of it as when you're taking it in from a bird's eye view. The spit of land lies under the Triborough Bridge, Hell Gate Bridge, and along the East River. Just short of 60 acres, it's one of the most expansive spaces in the nearer part of Queens: go here to do the somersaults the quarantine is just begging your body to perform."

Very beautiful park. It's like a 15 minute walk from the N train, but you've got some gorgeous views of the water, a nice playground, spacious track and field, and the biggest public swimming pool in NYC. Not too crowded at all considering the great weather either. If you live in Queens, highly recommend as an alternative to Central Park or Prospect Park.

Google
I always loved this place. Growing up as a kid in Astoria, coming to this park gave me a place to breathe, and think. Sitting in my car by the water, or walking around in the park you had the chance to experience peace even though the park was bustling with activity. There is a huge pool within the park, along with several small playgrounds for the kids. There is a brand new track, and there is enough room for soccer matches and other outdoor activities. The bathrooms are clean, and the park as a whole is so very well maintained. This place is one of the many great things about Astoria.

Google
Great park with views of the city however didn't really get to see the fireworks on July 4. Bathrooms were terrible and dirty with strong urine smell. Also closed at 7pm. Line was very long to the point women started making line for the men's side and the guard came to handle the issue due to the situation plus no more toilet paper. Better to go by the field and track section with better bathroom and more places to walk. They had 2 ice-cream vendors. The one by the road closest to the foot of the bridge , that I like a lot, and one close to the water. Peaceful and relaxing . Good for walking small dogs.

Google
The renovations have treated this park well. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and it’s great to see the facelift on it. The pool is nice as well as the park. I highly recommend this park. People were also having events such as birthdays, baby showers, and bridal showers. Make sure to bring tissues or baby wipes for the toilet.

Google
One of the best parks in NYC! Astoria Park has something for everyone — stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, wide open green spaces, tennis courts, a track, and even one of the city’s largest public pools. It’s perfect for a morning jog, a relaxed picnic, or watching the sunset over the East River. Clean, well-maintained, and full of life. Great spot to unwind and feel connected to the city and nature at the same time.

Google
It’s located underneath the Robert F. Kennedy (formerly Triborough) and Hell Gate Bridges in Queens, NY. It’s runs between the East River and 19th Street, and from Hoyt Avenue South to Ditmars Boulevard. It’s widely known for its beautiful pool, the oldest and largest in the city, as well as outdoor tennis courts, track, bandstand, multiple trails, two full basketball courts and a couple of half courts, restrooms, and the Charybdis Playground. It has wheelchair-accesible free parking lot. It’s dog-friendly but should be leashed after 9:00 am. You can also enjoy live music, food vendors, barbecue and picnic áreas. I had a great time!

Google
Astoria Park is a lovely spot with a lot to offer. It has a great track that's perfect for running or leisurely walks, and the central field is often lively with people playing sports like football. I especially enjoyed watching the sunset from the park – it was quite breathtaking. There are also some outdoor gym areas and tennis courts for those who want to stay active. While the public restrooms were unfortunately closed during my visit, the park itself is well-maintained. Plus, there are designated trails for both dogs and people, making it a welcoming space for all. I stayed until the evening, and I was impressed by how well-lit and safe the park felt. Additionally, there are chairs and a few tables scattered throughout the park, making it a pleasant place to study or enjoy a meal outdoors.

Yelp
Astoria Park is one of the best parts about living in Astoria. The views are beautiful, it's spacious and features amenities like bathrooms, a running track, a skate park, and a pool in the summer. I love coming here to see fireworks around 4th of July, watching the free movies in the park and listening to live music. It's also a beautiful place to come in the winter. Sledding happens pretty much all over the park, and the snow blankets the park in a way that makes it sound quiet and serene, especially if you visit before the sledders take over. It's a solid date spot (especially if you're broke, pack a picnic), or to hang out with friends. I love people watching here, you'll see folks painting the scene, people playing frisbee, plus a ton of cute dogs out living their best lives. If you live in the area and haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for?

Yelp
Astoria Park is a public park in the Astoria in Queens. The park is situated on the eastern shore of the Hell Gate, a strait of the East River, between Ditmars Boulevard to the north and Hoyt Avenue to the south. The Robert F. Kennedy and Hell Gate Bridges respectively pass over the park's southern and northern sections. Astoria Park contains a playground, a soccer field, a running track, a skate park, and courts for tennis, basketball, and bocce. Astoria Park also includes the Astoria Play Center, which consists of a recreation center and a pool. The park and play center are maintained by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. I'm definitely a fan of this park. Every year they have a fireworks display just before the Independence Day celebration. This year the festivities bring at 7:30pm on Thursday June 27, 2024. At approximately 9:15-9:30pm the fireworks display will take place. When I can't be there I can watch the fireworks from the top floor of my apartment building. This review is to inform you about this event and recommend you visit the park or look up at the sky if you're nearby!!

Yelp
This is a fantastic park. It's spacious and lush. It has a pool, tennis courts, a playground, plenty of places to lounge, and public bathrooms. On a sunny Saturday in June, lots of folks were out sunbathing. It has impressive views of the White Stone and RFK bridges and the East River. Great place to picnic and not at all touristy!
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
I have been coming to this park for years and love it! There's an awesome array of inclusive swings and jungle gym equipment. It also has the most beautiful view at the waterfront. Having picnics on the great lawn is always a vibe.

Yelp
This is probably one of the most scenic tracks I've ever run on. It's a beautiful place to workout especially during sunset. It's about 30 minutes from grand central and a 12 minute walk from the subway. However it does get PACKED in the evenings now that it's warm outside. One of my grievances about this place is that a lot of people who run here lack self awareness and workout etiquette. Today I tweaked my hamstring pretty badly trying to evade someone who didn't bother to look both ways while jumping into my lane while I was doing a sprint workout... That can actually be pretty dangerous, so people need to be more aware if they're going to run here. Despite my experience, it is a great track and I'll be back for future workouts, just at a different time of the day

Yelp
Back to the old stomping grounds - must be about 40 years since the last time I've been to this park. Great views and a nice walk. Nice to see so many people out, it was a beautiful day.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Amazing park that has everything that you could ask for whether it's a walk by the water or even recreational activities from running to basketball this place has it all. Alongside the amount of people, its a relaxing spot to be at.

Yelp
Astoria Park is my favorite park in all of Queens. I might be bias because I live here but it's clean, spacious and beautiful views. My favorite part of the park is the track. I walk this track at least 3 times a week to keep in shape. They have exercise machines right outside of the track in case you don't have a gym membership. These machines used to get packed during the middle of the pandemic when gyms were closed. They are kept very clean. There are bathrooms right near the track and tennis courts. In the middle of the field, there is always a workout class or soccer game going on. During the summer, there's always things to do that are hosted by the community. My favorite has to be the fireworks. That's one of those nights where I'm grateful I'm walking distance because there is always a huge turn out. You definitely have to visit if you've never been.

Yelp
Last night, my friend and I came here to check out the carnival. She had a hard time finding parking. I recommend taking Uber if you plan to go. We didn't stayed long because the park was crowded. The lines were long for the rides. I love how big the park is though.
google avatar

Anne R.

Yelp
Safe clean pathways for walking, jogging, biking. A variety of playfields and workout areas. Scenic sunsets with bridge and river views. Large open fields of grass for picnicking, reading, and relaxing. Pool and splash pads for hot summer days. Track for clocking miles and times. Even has a sizeable free parking lot! The only thing it really lacks is a lot of food vendors and bodegas nearby- so pack a picnic or chow down before you arrive! Make sure you check for nearby restrooms as well since there aren't many options and limited hours for public restroom availability.

Brunilda L.

Yelp
the pool was awesome on a hot day. Just know you have to wear a white t shirt to enter and your bag should be clear plastic or a mesh bag. If not you need to put it into a locker. You can walk in with a towel and water bottle
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
Astoria Park is a beautiful place to walk along the river and by the bridges. It seems like a good place for exercise. Lots of people are always jogging or walking. Dogs abound. The best part is the views. Along the East River is a long path that goes the length of the park, giving you some good looks of Harlem and the Bronx. It seems much more peaceful over on this side. This doesn't mean there's no noise though. Often the park is full of families with kids. There's also dogs and other pets. It basically is a long strip along the river, so the path is the main attraction. It offers many of the best views of the city. The park is mostly safe.
google avatar

Claire C.

Yelp
A great, well lit running track! There's always plenty of people playing soccer in the field as well, so it feels like a safe area. The view of the bridge from the track is pretty amazing. Just wish the tennis courts at this park had lights as well.
google avatar

Yelp
I believe this is the best park of Queens! I love visiting and going for a run here! The best views - RFK, Hell Gate bridges, beautiful skyline. The best variety of sections - track field, soccer field, skate park, playground, pool, etc The best events - carnivals, fairs, live music, tree mulching, park cleanup, movies, etc This park is not too packed and is fairly always clean. One improvement can be the bathroom situations for sure, we need more! Also, I know there's a dog run near by but I wish they renovated the dirt patch they call a dog park on the corner of the track!!!
google avatar

Mely Y.

Yelp
Astoria park has undergone a nice facelift. They opened up the track and field side a couple of years ago, along with more walking paths. Unfortunately this year, they're going to close Astoria Pools to renovations. I'm not surprised they decided to close shore rd off to cars to allow more "pedestrian friendly activity". The city has been closing off certain streets throughout the borough and not acknowledging the problems it brings. Besides that, Astoria Park has always been a staple to watch the sunset, and yearly fireworks they have before the 4th of July. I wish they could fix the walking path near the skatepark. Not sure why that one strip was left ignored but it is bumpy bumpy!!!!! Otherwise, love this park to people watch and pull up a blanket and watch the boats.

Yelp
What an awesome park! I haven't been here in years but spontaneously came by yesterday with a friend. We were meeting some pals who live in Astoria for dinner and since we overestimated traffic (better to be early than late!), we arrived about an hour ahead of schedule. We spent that hour checking out the renovations that the city made to the park and really love what they've done with the place! The track has plenty to spring to it, they have new outdoor gym equipment, and the turf feels great. I've been told that the pool has been redone as well. The park has beautiful views of the Triborough Bridge and is a wonderful place to relax, workout, catch the sunset, or even have a picnic (once the weather warms up that is). Even yesterday, with the temps and winds as intense as they were, people were still getting their soccer on and there were plenty of others working out circuit training style on the gym equipment. New York City is such a wonderful playground- get out and move my friends!
google avatar

Charlie C.

Yelp
Astoria park is amazing. Huge outdoor pool, grass fields, track and field, and waterfront biking lanes. Views are fantastic and ample parking. But right now there is a carnival in the parking lot and it is INSANELY crowded. Massive lines for mediocre rides, porta potties overflowing with and no space to walk. Luckily the carnival is gone soon and Astoria Park returns to its glory.

Yelp
Welcome to my hometown of Astoria, NY. Situated in NYC's borough of Queens and just across the East River from Midtown Manhattan, Astoria was named after John Jacob Astor. He was the wealthiest man in the United States with a net worth of more than $40 million in order to persuade him to invest in the neighborhood. He never set foot here, but his name stayed. According to Time Out 2019, this place was named one of the 10 coolest neighborhoods in the world. The 2 iconic bridges that would forever link Astoria are the Hell Gate and Tri-borough (now RFK). The Hell Gate Bridge was the inspiration for the design of the Sydney Harbour Bridge which opened 15 years after the Hell Gate Bridge first opened in 1917. When it opened, the Hell Gate Bridge was the world's longest steel arch bridge for trains at 1,017 feet. Robert F. Kennedy Bridge (formerly the Triborough Bridge) for automobiles and pedestrians connects the borough of Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx.

Yelp
Oh my! Beautiful sunlit views of the Hells Gate and Tri-Borough bridges! Tons of space...far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. This park is lovely! I had an awesome picnic here for my 4th of July weekend. It was a pain to get to from Brooklyn, but ultimately worth it. The BEST part of my day here was when the sun began to set and the fireflies came out...and I mean they showed up and showed out ok!!! They littered the evening air with their fairy lights. I went back to my childhood roots and even caught/released a couple. Fun fun fun, I can't wait to enjoy this park again!

Yelp
Let me tell you Astoria pain and joy and sorrow. Haven't been here as much as I wanted, but that's the astoria of my life. You'll get five stars from me for this park - and that's just for the views of Manhattan alone. Not to mention the two spectacular bridges that it's sandwiched between, which are the RFK and the Hell's Gate. This is truly one of the most beautiful spots in New York City and five stars is not enough for this place. Sunnyside Pizza (in nearby Sunnyside) is the best Pizza ever, and The Haab (in nearby Woodside) is amazing for Huevos Tapatio, but specifically in Astoria I recommend: - Arepas Cafe - for the Pabellon Arepa and the brown sugar lemonade - Seva - for some of the best curry and Chicken Tikka Masala ever - Brooklyn Bagel - for the Asiago Jalapeno Cream Cheese on everything Bagel - BZ Grill - for authentic Athens Pork Gyros - St James Deli - for chorizo and egg anything, anytime, open 24 7 - Caravan Chicken - for Peruvian Chicken and green sauce - Gyro Uno - for Chicago style Gyros - Rizzo's Pizza - for pizza, duhh - Sal, Kris and Charlie's - for The Bomb and other sandwiches - King Of Falafel And Shawarma - for Halal Cart food - The Souvlaki On A Stick from King Souvlaki of Astoria Best of all, Tea And Milk is one of the best boba shops in the country, especially if you like original and real tea rather than the over sweet stuff. Even if you don't like Boba, try Tea And Milk. Try all of those things at least once in your life. And of course try me at least once in your life.

Yelp
What can I say? The park is awesome. It's clean, it's close to my apartment, it's peaceful, it's nature-y (duh). I really just enjoy its little walkways and bends, the green grass that's now started to grow always inviting for a little picnic action - and of course, I love watching the many furry friends and babies that frolic happily around the park. It's always also so incredibly peaceful to walk or jog along the water. The beautiful sunsets over the East River are still (and will always be) my absolute favorite. Truly blessed to have this park within a few minutes' walk. The bridges are also very picturesquely perfect. I won't miss Shore Ave being reopened for car traffic; hoping it will stay a pedestrian walking haven for longer. Long live Astoria and its beautiful park.

Ebony N.

Yelp
ive been living here for almost a year. they have no customer care at all. they i had mold in my unit and they refuse to move me still smell mold in my unit and still they have refuse to accommodate me. when i asked for another unit i was told to reapply. why would a current lease holder be offered a new unit due to the unit effectively harming the tenant

Yelp
It's so strange that I've lived in NYC for 18 years, and I visited the park for the first time a few weeks ago. I'm a bit surprised that Astoria Park has not been one of my destinations during my 18-year tenure in NYC. I guess there is a first time for everything. The park and the surrounding areas are a great place to run and walk. Overall, the park is pretty clean . . . a lot cleaner than other parks in the city. The views of the East River, the RFK Bridge, Hell's Gate Bridge, and Randall's Island are absolutely breathtaking, especially during a nice day. The park has a brand new (or brand newish) track, which provides extra space for exercising. There's even a section that has some outdoor gym equipment training equipment next to the track.
google avatar

Colette H.

Yelp
This is a great park! There's always a lot to do here. It's spacious and is a nice spot to visit. There are trails to run and walk on. There is space to play games in the grass. There's a skate park that can fit plenty of skateboarders. You can always find a trail to run on. I love being able to walk next to the water and see the city views. I'll definitely stop back here, again.
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
Astoria Park is definitely one of my favorite parks in Queens and I usually come here during the summer. Tonight my two friends and I came to check out the Holiday Festival & Tree Lighting Celebration organized by Central Astoria. Actually I just popped my first ever tree lighting ceremony. There were lines for popcorn...I am assuming it was free and another line for a ride on the trolley where you have to line up before 4:00 pm. It was Rick C and Cynthia C's first time at the park so we just walked around underneath the magnificent bridges. I didn't get a chance to take them to Ralph Demarco Park as it got dark about 4:00 pmish. The band was taking their equipment off the stage as a group of caroling came on stage and sang beautiful Christmas songs and kids out front dancing away.
google avatar

Ami Y.

Yelp
I feel fortunate to live so close to Astoria Park! It was a hassle to train at McCarren Park while Astoria Park Track was closed, but now we have a beautiful track! As pictured, the track came with a workout area with exercise machines. Once you're done with your track workout, you can do core workouts this way. I'm pretty impressed with the non-electric elliptical, which you can even adjust the resistance.
google avatar

Ellisha H.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this park and it's beautiful views.Lot's of space to have a picnic..be alone or even fun with friends and family! We surely will be going back to just sit back and enjoy this summers weather.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this park, there's so much to do here at all ages really. When j was a teen I used to come here a lot to hang by the water or just to walk around. I also learned how to drive in the streets close to this park. I used to run around the park trails and bring my puppy for a doggy hangout day. I have seen independence day fireworks from here as well as have plenty enjoyed the pool at the park. Lately I like to come over to run as they have a great running track, you can enjoy an amazing view while running and if you not the dining k ok nd of individual they also have tennis courts and some random calistatis workout stations that you can also use. They made an very fun share park as well eight under the bridge so come by and busy some moves if you are a dare devil!
google avatar

Aelita P.

Yelp
NYC knows what it's doing when it comes to parks, and Astoria park is no exception! There are tons of tennis courts (also basketball, and maybe others?!), there's a really well tended track, a new workout area (like Muscle Beach but without the shirtless guys and all the rust), a swimming pool!, and walking and biking paths. I walked around with a friend on a sunny day and it was . Definitely not a bad park to love by!

Charvette R.

Yelp
The carnival at Astoria park was horrible, was a waste of money. It was very packed, no parking around the park due to the blocks being blocked off. The lines to get on the rides was out the park and it was about a hour wait. I did not even use all my tickets because there was no order the lines was not moving on certain rides because people was skipping. They need to have someone watching the lines.
google avatar

Linh L.

Yelp
This is such a beautiful park! Literally has the best view!!! Parking is easy. Great for dogs, joggers, cyclists, walks, picnics, just abt any outdoor activities!

Elvis E.

Yelp
why did they have to put a soccer fied there ruined the tracked cant jog with out getting hit with a ball and theres always games and they take up all the parking
google avatar

Diana M.

Yelp
Beautiful view, plenty of trees & lush grass, running/bike path, skate park. I've come here for picnics, bike rides, and to shoot (photos) around. Honestly one of my favorite NYC parks! I get lucky with the street parking, but it's easy to see the challenge during an evening/weekend of great weather. Worth it nonetheless.
google avatar

Lucy M.

Yelp
It's cool that they have a skate park and playground, but the space seems best utilized for tanning/picnicking. The park is mostly a big empty lawn with a fantastic view and little else in terms of natural beauty, but the bathrooms are some of the worst I've seen anywhere in the city (currently un-serviced portajohns and a trailer that's not open) and the water fountains barely work. They do have basketball and tennis courts, which is great, but the park itself is so sparse. The pool has so many rules, some of which don't make sense and some of which are desperate attempts to reign in people who just can't behave, but either way it's not a place I would enjoy spending time in. The park has events, movie nights, concerts and whatnot. I'm glad it's here but it's far from my favorite outdoor space in the city.
google avatar

Meline V.

Yelp
I love Astoria Park I come here for runs, tennis and bike around. It is well maintained and clean with great views. They organize movie nights ,concerts and so many activities. There is a big pool as well.
google avatar

Yelp
What a cute park! The location is perfect! The park is located right by the water which has amazing views! Great for insta worthy pictures. Go have a picnic, tan, hangout, or grab a book to read! I know you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Amazing view of Harlem and the Bronx. The park is so relaxing and large. Whether you're having a picnic or just here for a jog, it's amazing in every way. There's a parking lot and parking outside the park. There's also a pool which is opened with a life guard in the summer.

Yelp
Queens hone a lot of gems which includes a well equipped park in Astoria. Astoria Park overlooks East River facilitating fantastic views of Roosevelt Island, including Triborough Bridge and Hell Gate Bridge for Metro North Rail Road's Harlem Line. It inhabits a wealth of equipment surmounting Olympic standard of a Running Track utilized in all weather course. Astoria Pool holds local competitions and meet Olympic standards and contains shallow water for children's beginner level. Sadly the nearby diving pool is an utter state of disrepair, abandoned usage for many years. A skating park is surprisingly also available on grounds. This 59.96 acres, since 1913 as the largest park in Western Queens, NYC of unscathed land as verified by astorialic.org. Astoria Park is well utilized outdoor space which includes a Fitness Equipment, Gametime Parcourse Fitcenter for a challenge of stretching, legging, and endurance to promote cardiovascular health. I have never encountered a park to be equipped for this Gametime Parcourse which I find many tasks difficult beyond my physical status impediment to perform. Biking in the outskirts of Astoria Park depict a lovely view of the East River among the many trails. This is no ordinary park as it contains all the standard equipment of tennis courts and children playground plus more of the fore-mentioned. A living Long Island War Memorial is well cared for on grounds near the parking lot. A compass imbued on the ground is located at the entrance. Seagulls are easily viewable in the East River where I was able to attain a clear photo shoot. With a friend, I had the pleasure to witness the beginnings of a sweet mellifluous sunset. Astoria Park is easily my FREE outdoor gym!

Yelp
Astoria Park is open every day and has numerous attractions in the summer. I have just been to movie night June 6 and Classic car show 6/16/2019. The Astoria Park Alliance runs beautification and cultural events regularly throughout the year

Yelp
I don't know why there is such a thing as reviewing parks? Like its... a PARK!? But to summarize my review I'd say this place is a really nice...park.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
I've been here about maybe 10 times in total between the last 3 years, but I think I just discovered it as a Yelp location this year. YARG, lol. Astoria Park holds a plethora of memories for me. In the beginning there were some happy times which all converted into sad memories that brought me pain because they were all times I hung out with someone who was completely on a different page than I was but lied through their teeth about it and so there were a few tipsy, nighttime arguments here...there were also a few (kay, exactly 2) awesome picnics which resulted in looking up at the stars (if it was a really dark, dark, dark night - yanno, with NYC's pollution and all, haha!) and awwing at the bridge all the while enshrouded in a blanket of false hopes and neverending insecurities... But now all is sunshine and this park makes me feel like jumping for joy, rolling around in the grass and smiling even if it means I'm probably getting viciously attacked by killer zombie mosquitoes from space...seriously. This Sunday morning I rejoiced being able to spend the weekend hanging out in denim shorts and not having sustained any bug bites (thanks in part to my having practically showered myself with insect repellent) except that I did end up getting bitten in Astoria Park on the one part that I DIDN'T cover in insect repellent...my forehead, lucky for my it was under my side bang...jerks. Anywhoo, I truly love Astoria park - it's got the lushness of Central Park's Sheep Meadow, the quirkiness and activity buzz of Brooklyn's Prospect Park but a more intimate feel and picturesque scenery (crazy up-close view of the Triborough and Hell Gate Bridges anyone?! I mean, WHOA!) than any of those other two parks can boast about. Astoria Park is also home to NYC's largest public pool and they've got tennis courts and a very well maintained and impressive outdoor running track and exercise space. Personally I like to exercise here with a plastic cup and a bottle of wine...but maybe that's just me ;-). 5 stars for Astoria Park for wonderfully bridging the gap between community, nature and urban life.

Yelp
Astoria Park is gorgeous! Pros: large swimming pool. Cons: no water in the swimming pool. So don't try to use that diving board. I went when the weather was transitioning to autumn, so I'm assuming they usually open the pool up during the summertime? Otherwise, i'd be feeling a bit Lana del Rey. There's an area dedicated to skateboarders, a running track (with great views of the bridge), basketball courts, random exercise workout benches, etc. You can even run by the river side if you don't want to run on the track.

Yelp
It's your Summer go to spot! If you wanna go for a nice walk and watch the summer sunset and take it in, GO! Sometimes they have movies showing on the giant lawn. Just bring a blanket, some snacks and you got yourself a cute inexpensive date!

Yelp
Wow as a visitor to NYC I was introduced to this park by Jenifer D and I unexpectedly found myself in awe. It's simply a whole different perspective on New York, especially when compared to the first thing that pops into your head when you think NYC. Tall buildings, Times Square, metal, concrete, etc. This park is certainly none of those. It's got this strange calmness to it at night with the water flowing under the Triborough & Hell's Gate bridges and it's a little surreal. I went here at night where it seems to be a happening spot for romantic couples, bonding families, motorcycle enthusiasts, and night time strollers. During the day the grassy area was filled with sunbathers and people enjoying a good book. There's also this large Olympic sized pool that's free to the public which looked incredibly tempting. Too bad it was way too packed when we got there.

Yelp
Beautiful park. Strong wind from the river. Many cute doggies chase each other. If you go to weekends, there are too many people so you can't let your dog off the leash.

Yelp
Love this park. It's great for sunbathing, running, swimming, catching up with friends, romantic interludes, photo shoots, showing out of towners around...Astoria park is just another reason why Astoria rocks!

Yelp
This place is a treasure in the middle of Queens right off the RFK / Triboro bridge. There is a running track, built in exercise equipment scattered throughout the park and an amazing skateboard park -- something you don't see often on the east coast. Definitely worth a visit while in Queens. You can walk down by the water (East River) and enjoy the beautiful view of Manhattan walk under the RFK bridge for some great photo opps and watch the boats go by.

Yelp
Popular place to visit and take a few pics. You can spent hours just relaxing. It is large and has lots of greenery, a walkway across the street, skateboard park, playgrounds for kids(great to take children of all age), and of course amazing views. The view of Manhattan is just breathtaking. It's a wonderful Park to visit. You'll come once and you'll want come back here again.
