Atelier

Atelier is a dream and oozes charm and warmth, with an amazing selection of yarns, notions, and other crafting essentials. The staff are beyond helpful and friendly, and took a significant amount of time to research my sweater pattern to ensure I was purchasing the appropriate quantity of yarn, and then helped me find everything I needed to make my project a reality. This is my favorite little yarn shop (plus so much MORE than yarn!) that I've ever visited, and can't recommend them enough.

Love this store! I'm in Tahoe for a month and needed some yarn projects. It's been a while but Heather at the shop got me back into the spin of things. She even printed out patterns and mix and match needles and cables to get exactly what I need. Can't say enough good things about this shop and look forward to the social knitting Tuesday evenings! Getting ready to cast on!

Eclectic gift shop merged with a fiber shop in the back. The staff do not know about the fiber, knitting, or the other crafts. Huge stock of Spincycle and some California sourced yarns. They have a very nice overall inventory.

The most amazing yarns. Not the cheapest, but they are of the finest quality and excellent color selection.

Beautifully curated selection of books, gifts, and craft supplies. I’ll be visiting here as much as possible now that I know.

I love this shop, but I am sad they downsized. Not as many great art supplies or fabrics as there used to be, but I still will always stop by and peruse the shop every time I am in Truckee. They have supplies I can only buy online, and I like buying paints in person to get an accurate idea of paint colors.

Love this store! It has very high quality and well-curated art & craft supplies, beautifully displayed. I saw bookbinding, printmaking, watercolor, encaustic, calligraphy, knit, crochet, spinning, sewing, scrap booking... Definitely worth a visit

Great if you're just looking to buy crafts or yarn and know what you're doing. Some notions, patterns, and kits. Don't plan on getting tips or hanging out to knit...not that kind of place.

This is always the first stop for me when visiting Truckee! It's two stores in one! A home goods, books, jewelry, gift store in the front... And an awesome arts and crafts store in the back! It's on the main street in downtown Truckee and it's awesome. They have GORGEOUS hand dyed yarns and tons of crafting books. Some of the other art supplies: embroidery supplies, watercolors, calligraphy, wool felting, crochet, drawing.....and on and on. Really unique finds here. They have the Colorio separate pans and palettes so you can create your own collection. I really love the yarn area.... If you're a crafty person you need to stop in!

I had so much fun at one of their workshops! They have a separate location for arts and crafts, and I went to decorate pumpkins for fall. Everyone was so sweet and helpful, and the overall vibe was fun & laid back. I recommend both their art supplies for your own projects, and also the workshops they do with what they sell. I love that I can just buy a chunky knit blanket, but I can also learn & make my own!

Atelier is magnificent! I recently visited for the first time and was blown away by the warmth and charm of this amazing little yarn shop and makery. The staff were beyond helpful and so generous with their time in helping me find the right yarn for my next sweater and calculate the quantities needed. Their selection of special yarns and notions is the best I've ever seen. This is a HAPPY PLACE! I'm from out of town, but am already planning my next trip to the Truckee area so I can return to this wonderful, joyful store.

One of my favorite shops in Truckee. Lots of fun art supplies, beautiful yarn, cook books, home goods and more. Love the selection of items in this store. You can tell that they put a lot of thought into their sourcing and their jewelry vendors. The staff here is very friendly and always happy to assist you with any questions.

I love Atelier and all the local goodness. They stock several local dyers, as well as have kits for several Andrea Mowry and other popular designs. While I didn't walk out with anything visit I have previously purchased Nerdy Fibers (a local duet) and enjoyed my visit this time as well. Atelier shares the store space and is located in the back, but the front store "Bespoke" is very cute as well.

I came in to buy some yarn for a specific project. The person who helped me was very knowledgeable and was able to show me the yarns to choose from that would best fit my project. She also calculated how many skeins I should need. Thank you.

Atelier is a fantastic store filled with staff passionate about preserving the way things have been done by inspiring others and sharing their knowledge with the world. What follows is satire... We've all struggled to find a gift for someone who has shunned modern technology in favor of the most archaic methods for getting shit done possible. Yeah. You know. The people who are obsessed with understanding the process by which things are created and experiencing that process for themselves! From paint to paper, to printing, to soap and even the weaving of yarn, these days we all know someone obsessed with the craft of doing and creating absolutely everything! Myself included. Since that's the case, it's no surprise that I'm the First To Review this shrine to the handmade life. Seems all the customers have shunned technology in favor of sharing the secrets of yarn spinning and book binding with each other using letters written on stationary made from locally sourced wood shavings and artisanal ink made from naturally occurring botanical sources in the area, transported on horseback via a small group of similarly minded folk dedicated to the preservation and replication of the life and times of the Pony Express. Yep. Hipster Life is alive and well in Truckee, and Atelier is the beating heart of it all. From letterpress to terrarium building and absolutely every other hipster essential you can think of, Atelier has it all, and staff that'll explain too! So if you have a friend that sounds like anything I've just described, and you've racked your brain as to what to get them for that special occasion or recognition, this is the place you've been looking for! So twist up that handle bar mustache, manicure that beard, throw on that obscure t-shirt, or stop shaving for a few days and get dressed so it looks like you just woke up from a three day nap, and ride that bicycle you restored down to Atelier to pick up that hobby or skill that'll make life move slower so you can enjoy it just a bit more when you look back at your handicraft. You can thank me later.

The staff was super sweet and helpful! I loved their variety and selection of different craft supplies. They carry some of my favorite yarn such as Cashmere Treats and Madeline Tosh. They carry local brands of yarn which is so awesome. Love that they support local and small businesses. I'm excited to make a yellow beanie that a kind employee spent a lot of time making sure I had the right yarn yardage and such. They also have great watercolor travel supplies and knickknacks!

Super cute lil art store! Stopped by when we were making a pit stop in Truckee and was surprised to find Posca paint pens! I bought a few of the paint pens at $4 a piece. Definitely a cute store to check out if you're into art or crocheting/knitting as they have a separate back area with just yarn! The cashier was also really sweet :-)

A must stop if you're visiting Truckee and enjoy crafty items, books, stationery, and art supplies. You can find some truly unique gifts. They offer classes for all levels in knitting, wood, and crafts. The naturalistic vibe felt like a gentle sigh of graceful contentment amid some of the more upscale, commercial trendy shops in town. The people who worked there were very pleasant and welcoming. These kind of stores are hard to find, so bravo to the owners.

I don't know why this place gets such a bad rap. I've been in a few times and always had great service. The two gals working today 9/13 were phenomenal. They said hello when we entered, offered their help immediately, did help when asked, etc. Very happy with this place and will return again! Great little art and yarn shop.

Atelier has the finest collection of both art supplies and a multitude of yarns. Since I'm making infinity scarves for the holidays, I found an amazing selection of soft yarns that contain cashmere. As a novice, I took lessons from April, who got me started on both scarves. Outstanding teacher, ultimate patience. And I also found the soft pencils usually only found in SF--plus red enamel toolkits for grandchildren to put them in. One word of caution: it's dangerous to enter there, as you're bound to find something unique and lovely. Myra L.

Such a great shop. Whether you're a hobby crafter or a serious crafter, they have what you need + tons of gift and stationary options. If they don't, they'll order it for you! The staff is always helpful, even suggesting better options than what you were looking for. The workshops are fun and you actually leave more knowledgeable. I always stop in when I'm in the area!

Upon entering, I'm greeted by a very friendly staff. There's your 4 stars. Great selection of art supplies! From watercoloring to markets to wood carving! I purchased a few stencils, gel pens. Awesome shop!

Super cute little store in downtown Truckee! I'm a yarn addict so I'm always looking for a local yarn store to visit. This store carries lots of crafting options and has a great selection of yarn. Their selection of Madeline Tosh yarn is to die for, if only I was independently wealthy! My only complaint was that I didn't feel much attention was paid to the customers. Great stop in if you love crafts and want to shop small!

I love taking workshops at Atelier, the teachers are interesting & knowledgeable, and they have a wide variety of classes. I have taken several watercolor painting classes, as well as a stamp making/printing class, a digital pattern making class, and a smartphone photography for etsy class, which I found immensely helpful for running my etsy business. They also have a great selection of art supplies. One of my favorite purchases is watercolors that are hand made in Santa Cruz. So unique!

rude rude woman, no help at all from her - decent selection of stationery and great pens but the customer service really said it all about this place. she seemed more interested in her computer than the customers and was very rude to other customers in the store at the same time as us, didn't know prices and when asked responded with "they're like, uh, $2.15 or something like that" without even looking up from the computer. Don't waste your time.

Love this place! Excellent atmosphere, great products and service was personal. Found a unique christmas gift for my creative daughter here and they wrapped it with brown paper, red string and fabric - so quaint & charming, exactly what I expect from shopping Truckee.

I came into this shop with my family today and the employee working just kind of glared at us. She continued to watch us like a hawk as if I, my husband or kids would ruin or take something?!?! Cause we're Asian? Who knows. She never greeted us but noticeably greeted and asked other customers if they needed help. I have never felt so unwelcome or uncomfortable in a shop before. I noticed my shopping bag from Bespoke a few doors down also had Atelier on it as well, so possibly the same owner. My experience at Bespoke was the opposite. Just shows what the attitude of an employee does for customer experience.

Beautiful store! Great selection of knitting, crochet, and art supplies. They also have an impressive collection of amazing adult coloring books, which I was surprised to find. Staff was very helpful and prices are reasonable. Would very highly recommend as a local who prefers to shop small instead of driving to Reno/Carson.

This little shop was the breath of fresh air I needed! After a few hours spent in Truckee, my boyfriend and I wandered into Atelier with low expectations... $100 and a bag full of treasures later, I left with a huge, cheesy grin on my face. This shop has many of the same cards and paper products that I see at trendy Seattle stores, and it has many of the same art supplies that you can find in any decent art store... The magic is in the balance between the inspiring gifty things and the tools to expand on the ideas that sprout out of said gifty things. This is a great stop for anyone wanting to refuel their creative energy during a road trip or vacation.

Fabulous art supply store. I've never seen the quality and variety like this before. Think they are tied in with the other fabulous store, Bespoke - which is equally beautifully curated.

I really wanted to like this place and support the local community but the staff is not friendly and unhelpful. Everything is overpriced, and I'd be willing to swallow the tourism fee if the staff at least greeted you when walking in the door

This store is a crafters paradise. It's my favorite place to stop while in Truckee. They have supplies for calligraphy, screen printing, wood carving, knitting and the list goes on. Each section of supplies is accompanied by 1-3 beautiful but also descriptive books on the craft so you can actually learn! This store is run by creatives for anyone who aspires to be creative.

This place has everything I wanted for my art project. Pens, paper, etc... The girl helping me directed me to the perfect pen/paper combo. LOVE the press in the front window too- How cool! My wife loved the selection of yarns as well and came home with practically a whole sheep! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to create, craft, and get inspiration. I'm signing up for a class next!

I love coming to this shop. I love the vintage feel and everything is displayed so pleasingly. Finding a new craft to do is always fun here. I always find unique gifts and treasures. A fun place to be and they offer great classes too. I'll be back soon.
