"A local favorite, Athens Pizza has been serving up a delicious thick crust pizza for over thirty years. The restaurant features a roomy dining area and lots of patio seating. In addition to pizza, there is traditional Greek fare like Gyros, Baklava and Pastitsio, a layered dish of hollow pasta noodles with beef and a creamy bechamel topping. It's classically delicious." - Liz Shinn & Mike Rivera

Love this restaurant! A gem in a field of ordinary stones! Take time to check out this authentic Greek restaurant. It’s a large facility that’s well-staffed. The pizza is out of this world and other menu items had generous portions! Can’t wait for one of the delicious desserts!

Google
Had the privilege of trying Athens pizza for the first time last week when some co workers brought several boxes of their Pepperoni, Cheese and Athens special in celebration of Lab week at the hospital where I work. The Athens special stood out for me with the feta cheese, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions and pepper toppings all on each individual slice! I was quite impressed which compelled me to make this review to say a job well done on their part.

Google
Phenomenal food and great service! I am having their Eggplant parm and it tastes just like NY food which I love. Amazing.

Google
The food was awesome. The staff was courteous and the place was clean. I will definitely be back.

Google
One of our favorite spots! This family-owned Greek-style pizza place reminds us of a restaurant we frequently visited years ago. We’ve been here several times, and the food is always consistent and delicious. The owners are hands-on and clearly care about both their staff and their customers — you feel like family the moment you walk in. We highly recommend the salads, meatballs, gyro plate, and of course, the pizza! Everything is fresh and full of flavor. The atmosphere has a laid-back, old-school charm that makes it feel like a true hidden gem. Can’t go wrong here!

Google
Got delivery . It was Hot abs fresh but the salad was ridiculously small with not many extras just lettuce ans the calzone was weird they put sauce inside it. I asked for extra sauce and they put it inside. Also the breadsticks had some type Of meat on it? Ew .

Google
Great neighborhood restaurant. We stopped by for lunch. Food was fabulous and plentiful. Nice Greek atmosphere in this larger than expected restaurant. My wife had a mini mushroom pizza and I had the Chicken Tetrazini. We both got a fresh lunch side salad. Service was excellent. Leave some room for a great dessert!!!

Google
We came in about 20 minutes prior to closing, but received excellent service. The food came out fresh from the oven and was delicious! They have more than pizza, and nightly specials. We got the garlic bread with cheese appetizer expecting small pieces of bread. Nope! Unless you eat a lot, this is good appetizer for 4-6 people and it had a gracious amount of cheese. The pizzas were delicious!

Cindy L.

Yelp
I got Penne with Alfredo Sauce with Shrimps. They gave many shrimps & tasted great! We will go back!

Yelp
My @diningoutatl Passbook is my go to method of trying New restaurants in the city and surrounding areas. Last night I tried @athenspizza for the first time and I can definitely see why it's a neighborhood favorite. @athenspizza clearly has a regular crowd. Each evening offers a different special. Monday was "Baked Spaghetti" ; which was ordered. I also wanted to try the Mediterranean Pizza and ordered a small 6in. The pizza was absolutely delicious and the crust was divine! The spaghetti contained mushrooms which I enjoyed but, if you don't like them you'll need to request for them to be omitted. Great food and friendly service! I'll definitely be back!

Zoe S.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday afternoon, because it was in the Dining Out Passbook for a BOGO deal. We got 14 inch pizza for $14 and 10 inch Athens Special pizza for $15. Pizza was good ne satisfying. Cheese pizza was a great deal. The only thing I wish the crust was a bit thinner

Ahmad W.

Yelp
I've visited here before. The food is good. They have a gyro platter that comes with potatoes. It might be a option to get fries I'm not sure. This doesn't come with a drink neither. This meal is tasty though. You will have to see for yourself. They have a gyro pizza that's delicious. I had it previously will definitely get it again.

Lauren O.

Yelp
The store was cozy and the staff was friendly. You order at the counter and then they bring your food. It wasn't too crowded on a Saturday night since it's a more casual vibe. We tried a slice of pizza and it was okay. The crust was thicker and crispier. Then we got a gyro with falafel and that was great. It had a lot of sauce and the falafel seemed fresh. The fries had a good seasoning too. It was a good price for the food. I would Go back to try something else on the menu.

Lili J.

Yelp
I can only speak for the takeout but I thought it was just okay, not really anything special. I got the chicken kabob platter and I thought that the pita was great but nothing else was that good. The chicken had an okay seasoning but was a little overcooked. I wanted fries and got Greek potatoes instead that had a good seasoning but was not what I ordered. The lettuce was just lettuce, nothing exciting, and not super fresh. I guess the pizza is better but I doubt I'll go back.

Cynthia G.

Yelp
A solid place for Greek staples. I particularly appreciate the relaxed, homey atmosphere. The price is good for the food you get. Service is good & quick as well. Would recommend!

Kelsea L.

Yelp
Overall a very delicious meal on a Saturday lunch afternoon lunch date with the family. Food came out in waves with salads first, then appetizers, and then our entrees. Timing was good and service was attentive. The restrooms are in desperate need of updating (hence the loss of 1 star). That said, all good was flavorful and at a good temperature. Great menu selection and options for everyone

Janet W.

Yelp
This is a traditional Mom and Pop restaurant with friendly service and big portions. It has been here for 40 years at least and you can tell the crowd are regulars. Young families, single older people were all here when we came here for a late lunch/early dinner on a Friday afternoon. Lunch specials on weekdays until 4 pm and they are surprisingly large portions in this day and age. I had the moussaka/pastitio combo lunch which comes with salad, a huge piece of spinach spanakopita salad and garlic bread. We ordered calamari as appetizer and pita bread because the kids like plain pita bread. My daughter got a hot sandwich, my son Ordered the dinner size portion of baked spaghetti which I swear has a hint of nutmeg, and husband got a gyro sandwich with potatoes. We got a piece of baklava for dessert which was huge and delicious. My husband and I ate leftovers for lunch the next day as it was so much food! The baked spaghetti comes with a Greek salad and garlic bread as well. They have outdoor seating on a new patio as well. Come support this local cafe!

Aileen B.

Yelp
Love Athens Pizza. The food and service are wonderful! I had the Spanakopita and Joel had the Souvla Platter.

Derek C.

Yelp
Get the Lemon Chicken soup. It's amazing! Stay for the soup and enjoy the great pizza!

Gabriella R.

Yelp
This spot is a staple for our family. Can't go wrong on a Sunday with the family. The service is stellar and the food is always delicious. I'm a huge fan of the pork souvlaki and the Greek chicken. Delicious and I'm Greek! You won't be disappointed with the quality or the prices. Superb.

Johnny W.

Yelp
My favorite pizza place in the state of Georgia. Anytime I come in I'm greeted with a smile. Pizza is 10/10. You have got to try their ranch. It's addicting.

Kevin A.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday night, and there were plenty of open tables. Not surprising when the food is not good. Avgolemono soup inedible. Salad nothing special and with rock hard tomatoes (don't serve tomatoes in the winter!). Buffalo wings weren't--they had bbq sauce. Gyro ok, pizza ok. Pleasant place to sit, and service was fine. But the recipes need a serious upgrade.

Dennis T.

Yelp
We got the Athens special pizza and a pepperoni pizza. Both were very good. The crust is light, crisp, and has a good flavor. We also got an order of the garlic cheese bread which was very good. The staff was friendly and attentive. Service was very quick. We were never rushed and enjoyed our meal. It's an older building but clean. Whenever I'm in the Emory hospital area, Athens is a must.

Kirk S.

Yelp
First time eating at Athens Pizza. Started out with a Mythos Greek beer, which was very good. Greek salad was Really good as well. We ordered a medium Athens Special pizza which has pepperoni, ground beef, onion, green peppers, and sausage. The pizza was very good with the right amount of toppings. Sausage was nicely sliced rather than large chunks. The crust was thicker than I usually like but it was very good and surprisingly light. The service was great. I definitely will be back.

Bonnie S.

Yelp
First time I've been here since they left Chamblee Plaza. It had always been our go to place for pizza with the kids. Today we were in the area and decided to pop in for nostalgia's sake I was not disappointed. The lunch special of moussaka, pasticchio, spinach pie and salad was delicious and plentiful!! Sorry I waited so long!

Sara K.

Yelp
Great pizza and great atmosphere on a Friday night! We had calamari, house salad and a Mediterranean pizza. Tasty, affordable and fun!

Yelp
My wife and I have both worked in restaurants and would never walk in at closing time. Bad mojo. We always arrive at least 1/2 hour before closing, earlier if possible. Walked in last night at 8:30. Checked online, they close at 9:00pm. There was an OPEN sign on the door, and the posted hours stated they closed daily at 9:00pm. There were other diners eating. A young woman met us at the door and said "WE'RE CLOSED!." I asked about the sign. "We close early on Monday." (We checked the sign again, nope). When I asked again, she said they were open until 9:00pm but the kitchen closes at 8:30pm. How can a restaurant be open if the kitchen is closed? This is not a bar. A nearby Chinese restaurant was more than happy to serve us and take our money. Nice knowin' ya, Athens Pizza. I've enjoyed being a customer for decades, but it looks like you're no longer interested in my business.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Want to know a restaurant that has been in the same place for over 45 years? Athens Pizza is that place! This family owned establishment is an iconic restaurant in Atlanta (Decatur) and was the first to bring "Greek Style Pizza" to the South. The recipes for the food have not changed since opening day and several authentic Greek items have been added to the menu. During my visit here, I wanted to try all the Greek staples off the menu. I ordered the Spanakopita (Spinach Pie), Meatball Appetizer, Athens Greek Salad, & Gyro Platter to start. Of course, I had to try the Greek Style Pizza, so I ordered the cheese, peperoni & the Athen's Special! I also order the Pastitsio (Greek Lasagna). My favorites were the Pizzas. The 10 inch was the perfect size, especially for the Athen's Special that had lots of toppings. The dough is the perfect combination of soft, spongey dough with a thin layer of crispiness on the outside. They use white cheddar instead of mozzarella cheese and they are not shy with the cheese, which I love. Everything I ordered was great and decently priced too. I had tons of leftovers and everything tasted great warmed up the next day. Trust me, you won't leave her hungry! Athens Pizza is one of those places that you must visit and bring all your out of town friends to! Add it to your list if you have not been yet!

Yelp
The worst meal I've had in years.. The spaghetti sauce w meat looked like taco meat and tasted terrible..the pasta was not properly drained so the bottom of the container had cold water in it..Garlic bread looked n tasted like they brushed butter on a pc of bread..The all meat pizza was undercooked w soggy dough..What a waste of money and my time..Ended up throwing everything away n microwaved a pizza hot pocket which was much better ..The Baklava was dry ..

Yelp
Athens pizza has been a family favorite for the last few years. My family is Greek and this is the most authentic restaurant in the Decatur/Druid Hills area. However, the quality of customer service has significantly declined since we first started eating at Athens (even pre pandemic). I'm not one to complain about customer service unless it is consistent visit after visit. The staff seems uninterested to provide a great experience overall. In our most recent visit, after waiting for quite a while to begin with, the server told us she would only be taking our drink orders only and we had to wait to order food. We waited over 20 minutes just to get our orders in. I should mention it was a weeknight and there were just a few tables being served. However, the food is consistently good. Their gyros are delicious, the pizza reminds me of the Greek pizza restaurants I used to go to in New England. The crust is really flavorful and buttery, and the toppings are always fresh (and they don't skimp on the toppings). If you are willing to look past the customer service, then I would say this is the place for you.

Crystal T.

Yelp
I hate to be that guy but I'm about to be. I order from Athens solely for the fact that they deliver and SOMETIMES, the food is -ok- but WHY is there no consistency?! I always order the same thing- the tex mex rice bowl with chicken AND steak tips and extra veggies. The portions sizes are almost always different- the quality of the meat is unpredictable and quite frankly I never know if I'm getting a rice bowl or rice soup! Tonight it was more of a soup as it was drenched in an overflow of the sauce they use... which was extra messy because they used a very small container to pack it all in. And tonight was the first night that I got CRUNCHY rice!!! Undercooked or old I really can't tell ya Yes I continue to order from them- but I have few good things to say at this point. I just don't get why they can't just get it together. The potential is there but quality is lacking. Big fat thumbs down for Athens tonight. Sorry guys. I support your business frequently but I'm seriously about to cut my ties. -insert big fat eye roll here-

Yelp
This place had an authentic Greek feel for sure: decor & staff. At 6 PM on a Monday, this place was pretty filled with older folks and families alike. Our friend, the hubs, and I all agreed to get the Mediterranean pizza which had feta cheese, some extra cheese (yum), gyro chunks, thin tomato slices, and black olives. The ingredients were fresh as the pizza came out piping hot. The olives made the pizza super salty though so watch out. I don't think I've ever had a Greek pizza, and this was different. I liked how it was almost without much sauce on a pretty thin pizza bed with a tad thicker crust. The hubs' work place have ordered from this place a couple of times, and he has always liked it. Having it fresh though, it was really good. For $21.50, we were able to consume about more than half of the pizza. So the 16" def can feed 3 adults with a few slices left over. My experience is right around a 3.5 so I'll round up as this is a pretty authentic Greek place.

Timothy S.

Yelp
Roaches!!! Roaches!!! Roaches!!! Roaches!!! And more Roaches. Like this place until this happened.

Trish M.

Yelp
Locally owned family restaurant serving Italian and Mediterranean favorites. So many items to choose from in their menu including some great salads I've never dined in but I have picked up and it's quite lovely inside. You can't tell it by driving by but they have a huge parking lot. I've ordered several times using the apps and they package their food well for delivery. Tonight I had their pizza, just check out my pic. It was packed with meat. I love onions too but had to order those extra. I hate to order extra toppings ... I know it's only a buck and some change more but typically you only get a few of those extra items. Not here! I got the perfect amount of onions... it's the small things!!

William D.

Yelp
This is such a wonderful place. We felt so incredibly welcomed and the food was out of this world. If you're looking for affordable, delicious Greek food with phenomenal staff, this is the place to go. We will be back!!

Lauren H.

Yelp
We ordered 2 gyro wrap combos for take out. They were fine. Nothing exciting. Meat was a little dry. Fries were good. Potatoes were boring. Will definitely give it another try but will try something different.

Jordan W.

Yelp
Athens Pizza is an old-school, Greek-style pizza spot in Decatur that still serves up some pretty great, no-frills Greek fare. This spot has been around for decades, and you can tell- it's not gourmet, it's not trendy, but it is one of those neighborhood spots that you can depend on for good, simple food served fast in a comfortable environment. We stopped in for a quick lunch on a quiet Saturday. We were pleased to take a seat on their sunny patio, and ordered a couple of Greek beers from the friendly and attentive server. The beers were served in frosty steins, which was a nice touch on a warm afternoon. For lunch, we shared a Greek salad, an order of feta fries with a side of tzatziki, and a small cheese pizza. Everything was surprisingly good, and the fries were a standout. Athens Pizza is a nice place for a simple lunch, and worth a return visit.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I've ordered takeout twice and have been very pleased both times! First time we got the Santorini pizza and it was great! This time we got the Spanakopizza and the Tyropizza, they were SO GOOD! Can't wait to try more!!!

Joni R.

Yelp
Omg! This pizza is so fkn amazing!!!!!!!! The taste, the flavor is impeccable every time! I order the classic cheese pie. This is my 2nd time ordering via DoorDash. It is so good. We had company over and everyone thought it was great. I'm a NYer so I know. You're gonna love it! Go for it!

K. M.

Yelp
Ordered baked spaghetti via DoorDash. The sauce has a weird taste. Spaghetti was also oily. No sign of any seasonings. Aside from the weird taste of the meat and sauce, this dish was bland and flavorless. This was a total waste of money. Garlic bread sucks too. If I felt like getting dressed, I would take it back to the restaurant. I do not recommend this dish. In the trash it goes. Nasty. If you want tasty pasta dishes, try EATaliano. Perhaps Athens should focus on pizza/salad and leave the pasta dishes to someone more skilled and more conscientious about what they are selling. Canned ravioli is better than the baked spaghetti at Athens. I'm still appalled at how gross it was. With large slices of mushrooms. Nothing cohesive about the dish. No flavor, aside from gross.

Miranda G.

Yelp
As others have said, Athens has really gone downhill in the past few years. Food is not always consistent quality and things are often left off of dishes. Most recently when we ordered takeout we had the chicken left off our chicken kabob platter... of course we didn't notice until we got home to eat it, which is terribly inconvenient because it means someone is either hungry and wasted money or has to go back to the restaurant. We ended up going back and they fixed the situation.

Daniel C.

Yelp
Simple, fresh, delicious. I ordered the Santorini pizza, which comes with feta, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, garlic, artichoke hearts and black olives. The 10 inch pie was more than enough for one person, and the flavors were top-notch. Buttery, crisp crust but soft to the bite. Can't recommend Athens Pizza highly enough. They're very quick with takeout. Support local businesses during this pandemic!

Heather B.

Yelp
Four stars for a fast casual Greek restaurant with tasty classics served up fast at reasonable prices. We also ordered online and it was very convenient. Also, there is both inside and outside dining and on-site parking. My husband and I ordered "to-go" from here during a weekday. I had a hankering for mousaka, which is basically an eggplant and béchamel sauce casserole with meat. At Athens Pizza, they also serve spinach pie (spanikopita) with this entrée. It also came with a small Greek salad and garlic bread. To be honest, the mousaka was kind of meh. It was adequate but sup-par. However, it was only $15 and came with a spanikopita, which was solid, and a Greek salad and a garlic bread. Even with a mediocre main, it was a solid meal for a good price. Overall, I think Athens Pizza is a solid spot for Greek food at a very reasonable price. I would definitely return.

Pierce G.

Yelp
My granddaughter was very disappointed when I had to break the news to her that athen isn't a real person. The food was good otherwise. The terra-cotta statues in the corner really bring the Greek atmosphere to unsuspecting customers.

Woody W.

Yelp
This used to be one of the best Greek places in town but it has gone downhill rapidly over the past few years. My last three takeout orders have been made incorrectly and the staff that works at night doesn't seem interested in fixing the mistakes or customer service. The quality of the food, outside of the pizza, is also trending in the same direction. Athens had a good run but it's off my list of must-stop Greek places.

Gina S.

Yelp
Great Greek salad. Santorini pizza was very flavorful. Greek potatoes also. Spinach manicotti a bit too cheesy and stringy for my taste but otherwise good. Exellent quick service.

Savanna W.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times. The pizza is really what it's about. The dough is unique to the Greek style pizza. It's thick and chewy, with a crispy crust. Definitely holds up to the weight of the toppings. The toppings are also great, very fresh and cut thick, so every bite has a bit of something on it. Calzones are also good because of the dough, toppings and cheese. Definitely not skimpy. I've also always enjoyed the Greek salad due to the home made Greek vinaigrette dressing. Not too much great to say about the other dishes. Pasta isn't fresh. Sauces lack flavor. I've never tried the wrap so I don't have anything to share about those. So if you go, get some pizza!

Roxanne V.

Yelp
After bringing my father to the VA today, I stopped in as it was close to get a to go order. It was my first visit and certainly won't be the last just for the acts of kindness from Hannah at the door! I walked in asking for a Coke immediately as my blood sugar dropped drastically. Without question I had a Coke in my hand in 30 seconds along with some crackers. She brought the food to the car although I was there and able. She opened the car door and thanked my father for his service having known we just came from the VA. You don't find people that care this much anymore. Thank you Hannah! Oh, and the food was great too!

Bruce K.

Yelp
I came here for a work lunch, and it was quite interesting. I've never heard of this place before and well since everyone in the office was celebrating a coworker's birthday we all came here. Athens Pizza serves pizza, yes that and some other greek food. I saw some very interesting types of pizzas that this place served. Coworkers ordered a pizza with shrimp on it. Yeah, you read right. The pizzas here are light on the sauce and so if you want a side of marinara, they will provide it to you. But, because I'm trying to cut down on carb intake (always trying), I just ordered a gyro, and to be honest there's nothing amazing about it. It was okay. The flavors were not that memorable, but it filled me up. They do pack the gyro up a bit on the meats, but it's not that much. It came with either Athen potatoes or fries. I got the fries, because I believe the potatoes is just like a type of hash.

Shakiah U.

Yelp
First time trying this spot the best part about my dinner was the salad sadly even the garlic bread was nasty the spaghetti has no flavor at all except the after taste of from the meat sauce which I'm going to assume comes out of a can because it taste like aluminum this is my first time once again so maybe a bad night idk I wouldn't recommend based off of the twice baked spaghetti that I had

Tommy L.

Yelp
Pizza so-so. Good service. Not worth the money. Excellent rice pudding. Parking on site but an issue if busy.

Marcus C.

Yelp
Oredered Athens Special & son ordered meat lovers 10 inch pizza. Awesome tasting with light crispy crust. All toppings tasted fresh and not overcooked. I discovered this jewel of restaurant back in the late 80's while in graduate school. Can't wait until tomorrow to finish up leftovers.

Steven D.

Yelp
~$25 for a large Mediterranean pizza that fed three of us and then we had a few slices leftover. The pizza was pretty good. I've had a few pizzas from Athens Pizza before but I've never tried the Mediterranean. It's definitely thick and salty with the olives. I liked it. My wife has never tried a greek pizza before and she liked it also. I'm more of a fan of thin crust. Thre is plenty of seating and it was pretty packed with locals on a Monday night. There is plenty of parking. Would I come here again? Sure. I don't eat pizza that often but the prices are pretty decent and the quality is good.

John B.

Yelp
I have been eating at Athens Pizza since 1977 at its original location. The pizza and the authentic Greek specialities have been amazing since that time. They remain amazing today. I stopped in a few days ago for lunch. I had an individual pizza, a Greek salad, and galaktoboureko . All items were fresh, the pizza was hot, and the galaktoboureko was indescribably good. If you want authentic Greek food served by a friendly and attentive staff, then Athens Pizza is your destination of choice!

Thembi J.

Yelp
I've been a customer of Athens since high school so at least 25 YEARS. and I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt during covid. I've continually supported them this past year almost as often as before covid. We came weekly before covid and about 2-3 times a Month since covid. But I just can't anymore. It sucks cause I want to support but between wrong orders, EXTREMELY cold pizzas and tonight's rude little teenager behind the counter literally counting wads of cash while I'm standing there waiting for my food, they've just lost me as a customer.

Yvonne M.

Yelp
Pastitio was perfect, love that it comes with a side of spanakopita and a big salad and bread! As a Greek, I really appreciated that the woman who took my order instructed me to heat up the galatoboureko. That is customer service. I would love to come back and eat in one of the booths.

Jen H.

Yelp
Good food, very casual atmosphere and value for the costs. I had not eaten at this place for years, so I made it one of my first stops when I returned to the area just to see if it was still like I remembered. Luckily, I found that not much has changed including how good the food is and how easy it is to get in and out even on a weekend night where other places we might wait for a long time.

Spencer W.

Yelp
In all my years I had never ordered the Thursday Night Special Lamb Shank. How I missed out. It was just awesome. Now I'll have to decide between my old favorite Wednesday night and new favorite Thursday night. Also a great job getting into take out or limited inside mode.
