Yes, There Are Great Beignets to Be Found Around Atlanta

"Chef and owner Rusty Hamlin brings his upbringing in Baton Rouge to the table at Atkins Park in Smyrna. The menu here is an ode to Hamlin’s culinary experiences growing up in Louisiana and later working in restaurants around Baton Rouge. Expect everything from crawfish hand pies and Cajun-spiced smoked pork cracklins to an andouille sausage po’boy and a classic muffuletta. Never skip the beignets at Atkins Park in Smryna, which come perfectly fried with fluffy insides and tossed in just the right amount of powdered sugar." - Beth McKibben

I was craving a good muffaletta and found this place on Google. The sandwich was very good. The bread was toasted just right. The olive relish was a good balance, and the meat and cheese were perfect. The restaurant is a very comfortable design that makes it seem you are on vacation somewhere else. The staff is very nice and attentive. We'll be coming back.

Lunch was great! We sat outside on the patio. The only thing that could've made it better is if the plastic windows were open a little bit so the breeze could flow through. It got just a touch warm on the patio in May.

I had a great experience at Atkins Tavern in Smyrna! My waitress, Elise, was absolutely amazing polite, courteous, and incredibly attentive. Her customer service was truly world class. I especially appreciated her recommendation of the macaroni cheese balls and beignets to go with my meal—both were delicious! The kitchen staff is clearly doing a great job, and the overall vibe of the place is always welcoming and fun. Big shoutout to the whole team. Keep up the great work!

Google
I had a po boy from here and was a little disappointed! I’m leaving this review in hopes it might help the kitchen. I got the grilled shrimp po boy (I actually ordered fried) but it was not good. Very messy and salty. I had to send it back :( would prefer less and larger shrimp. For $21 dollars no drink a little steep.

Google
Food was outstanding. I had the pork with the grits in a bourbon glaze. It was absolutely delicious... my daughter had the shrimp and grits but she felt like the fried shrimp the fried crust on the shrimp didn't attach well and was falling off. She felt like it was just okay and it needed more of a sauce. Waiter young man was good but appeared overly busy. Other staff members did help cover where he missed so all was well. Definitely will come back.

I love this place! Went Saturday, and our server Kevin was amazing! The specialty crawfish pasta was delicious and the Hurricane was perfect.

Came to visit my daughter. I'm from New Orleans and the charbroiled oysters are great here. The drunken pork tenderloin was amazing. Great place!

Google
We had a lovely time last evening. The food was so good and the wait staff and mangers were on point. What a lovely relaxed evening outdoors on their patio. We will most definitely be back. Oh yes the Mac and cheese balls were so good !! As well as the Apple pie desert. Amazing !! My son enjoyed himself !!

Yelp
Local favorite ... We have always had great service and always have had great food . My favorite are the Po-boys and fried chicken and don't forget the queso !!! Always a great meal

Kerry T.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised. A simple meal of fries and some honey hot chicken biscuits was incredible. Would definitely go back and explore the menu further. The service wasn't amazing but solid as well.

Yelp
My husband and I come here weekly for lunch or dinner, often sitting at the bar. Summer, the server and bartender, is fantastic! The menu changes seasonally, offering great specials, but we especially love the fried green tomatoes, smoked wings, and beignets. If you visit during Mardi Gras or St. Patrick's Day, the lively atmosphere, live music, festive food, and decor are unbeatable.

Yelp
Real good food. Went on a Friday evening and there wasn't a wait to sit inside or patio. TVs had the Braves and NBA playoffs on plus they had a DJ that was jamming. People were dancing and the energy was great!

Yelp
They don't miss here. This location has a solid local customer base and always doing events to cater to their menu offerings. New Orleans/Cajun food with a dash of Southern delights and American favorites. You can get a Hurricane to sip with your burger or fried chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. I appreciate the weekly specials, weekly brews and they acknowledge where food is sourced. It's local energy & great food. On this night we celebrated my cousin's 60th birthday so it was special but not the main event. They told us a complimentary dessert was optional and the Manager came out to chat with us. They don't wait for your entire party to be seated. There's no automatic gratuity. No hookah. The bar is well stocked and there's indoor or outdoor patio seating. Oh, drinks are reasonable priced! Go when in the area for a good time.

Yelp
Always solid for brunch and lunch. We really like the Mac n cheese bombs, and their chicken biscuits are SO big and delish! Great drinks as well. Parking is easy here as well in the lot behind atkins park or street parking

Yelp
Good was good- put me to sleep Had the salmon grilled Darius was a good server Unfortunately the patio people were LOUD. They were over talking everyone Overall it was good. I love the trivia GUY- handsome Beautiful day to take my Sister out for her Solar Return #325

Yelp
Jennifer took amazing care of my during my visit for the Crawfish Boil. In addition to the great service, I really enjoyed the Crawfish Pie and the Hurricane Cocktail had a nice "kick" to it. The crawfish, though a nice size, were over cooked along with the corn. The potatoes in the boil were dry; I wish they would have been boiled with the crawfish. Overall, the fundraiser looked to be a great success and had live music and activities for the entire family

Yelp
More than a pleasure to be greeted by Kristina the charming and efficient hostess. It set the mood for a wonderful dinner for us and the service was excellent by Mattew G. I hope that Kristina is there each time that we come for dinner and know that i will always be accommodated. Thank you....Adrienne l

Yelp
Nice outdoor seating during the nice weather I got the smoked salmon Benedict. Average. The eggs were cooked very well. The salmon was not great. I can't tell you why but it was not great. The description was said it had dill on it. This didn't have much dill on it. I was disappointed. And overall it was ok but not great.

Yelp
Great food, great atmosphere. Also Mark who was bartending tonight was super helpful!!! Wonderful staff :-)

Yelp
I visited Atkins tavern probably 5+ times now and have always appreciated the food, the relaxed atmosphere, and the ability to bring my young kids without people and putting up a fuss over them. (Family-friendly institutions go a long way with me these days.) The food you'll find here is homey and casual. The smoked wings are especially good, and I always love their raw oysters because they aren't too salty. I've brought a friend here with me for drinks and fries once. I've come here on my own for oysters and a cocktail. And I really do love bringing my family for Sunday brunch as a treat. I want a fan of the she crab soup the one time I got it (I didn't expect it to be spicy), but everything else we've had here has been good and fun. Just like a local tavern should be.

Yelp
Since a friend introduced me to Atkins Park it has become one of my faves. The food and service is always consistent, but last night I received above and beyond service from Anna. She was attentive and just pleasant. I will always ask for her!

Yelp
We were out looking for houses in the area , got hungry, came across this spot, I usually love dive bars and taverns, this one not so much, the ambiance was cool I guess, the service was good too. The food just didn't WOW us at all. Drinks were weak too. Definitely won't be back ‍

Yelp
Atkins Park Tavern quickly became one of my go to spots in Smyrna. I usually just sit at the bar in the evening time and order a few items off of the late night menu. They are one of the few places that stay open til 3 in in the area. They have a bigger menu for the day time but I'll start with the late night items, so far I've had the Caesar salad which is always a big fresh and delicious salad. I usually also order oysters and those are always fresh as well. The beignets are made to order and they're probably one of my favorite things on the menu they're so so so good. I did dine in once & I had the jambalaya. I loved it. full of flavor, the right amount of spice and more than enough to take home to have as leftovers. As far as the drinks go, they have your typical sidecars, margaritas, etc., which are always strong and made the just the way you would like. They have live music at least once a week & the music is always different. The band usually plays in the bar area & there's space to dance if you like.

Yelp
Love this place and their speciality mimosas. This is out go to Saturday brunch spot. The Po boys are delicious. Good service indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
Attended a luncheon here today and I must say our server Maya was fabulous. She was attentive and friendly. Our food was tasteful and very delicious. I had the macaroni balls, the Reuben turkey sandwich with onion rings. Thank you all for making our visit memorable.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Atkins Park Tavern in Smyrna market. We were celebrating a birthday and decided to have brunch here. The ambiance and decor is setup like a French style restaurant in New Orleans and a lot of the food options resemble food choices you'd find in the city. Upon arrival, we were greeted by our waitress and she brought out biscuits to start while we waited on others to arrive. Once everyone arrived we placed our food orders. We all ordered a variety of things like the chicken and andouille gumbo, dynamite shrimp and grits, the special of the day: peaches and cream French toast, tavern breakfast, the grilled turkey burger, fried green tomatoes, and who dat fries. The chicken and andouille gumbo was the table favorite. The special was good, but some thought it lacked flavor. I had the grilled turkey burger with smashed red potatoes and it was just okay. Nothing amazing, just meh. The dynamite shrimp and grits were good, but some said the grits were cold and the who dat fries came out cold as well, but the waitress did replace them with some hot ones. The waitress did bring the birthday girl a birthday dessert with a candle and that was nice, but not free, which we didn't realize until we received the ticket since we were asked what she liked. The service was slightly slow for it not to be a full restaurant. We had to ask for water refills. Overall, the food and service could use some improvements, but it may be worth a second try.

Yelp
If you're a Georgia implant from Louisiana like me and are homesick, go here and eat the shrimp poboy. Crispy bread, perfectly fried juicy shrimp (on the small side, but very good) and delicious remoulade sauce. Got mine with the hand cut fries, and which were great but I barely touched because I ate the entire poboy and feel like a stuffed pig. I did start with the gumbo, I would change a few things about it, but gumbo is such a personal taste! (I'd say less rice and okra, but had perfect spice and great flavor) Wish I had room for the beignets, they're the real deal. Great service, the ambiance on the patio is as good as you'll get in a strip shopping area, only complaint is that the bathrooms definitely give away the fact that this must be a fun bar at night I'll be back.

Yelp
Food: - super delicious - came out quickly - creative approach to similar concepts - me: pork tenderloin with grits and honey bourbon glaze WOWZERS. I took leftovers home and my 9 year old son ate it all. - husband: Bruno burger. He's not as detailed as I, but he said it was good. Service: - Zander was really professional and welcoming - we got there a minute or so after they passed out the free shots to everyone, but we got to see the speech from chef or manager.. I asked if we could get one anyone and they obliged. We got shots of Jäegermeister.. Ambiance: - Standard tavern. Not so cute for Falcons fans since it's a NO saints restaurant. - simple and not too fancy.

Yelp
I tried this restaurant as an out of towner on a Thursday evening due to location and accommodation for kids. We were sat right away on the heated and covered patio which was nice and warm. We were completely alone out there as a party of 5. The menu had a pretty good verity so we had a hard time picking what to eat, until we were told that we needed to hurry up and order due to the regular menu ending in about 10 min and the late night menu would only be served. We ordered A LOT of food; Mac and cheese balls, fried pickles, pork crackling, burger, chicken sliders, wings, BPLT & shrimp and grits. The food was nasty but none of it was actually good besides the wings. It lacked flavor and love in the food. The grits were grainy, burger was basic, BPLT lacked any type of flavor, Mac and cheese balls were basic, pork crackling were stale. Service was really nice and the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice.

Paula Manning M.

Yelp
Food and service was good. We had oysters on shell - excellent, chicken fingers and fries - excellent, and beef Ruben - average, but needs more meat and Kraut with thinner bread. Will definitely return!

Yelp
Great food! Great staff! ;) live music on Friday nights and a DJ on Saturday nights. They typically have a different delicious dinner special every day. Great for family's and first dates.

Yelp
This was the first time coming to Atkinson. What a yummy place with a lovely ambience. We sat outside and it was great for people watching. The food was amazing. We enjoyed the fried green tomato app and pretzel. I enjoyed the salmon piccata with sautéed spinach and rice. I'm not usually one for cooked spinach but this was lightly sautéed and still fresh spinach. Everything was amazing and topped off with hard ciders feom Atlanta Cider co. Definitely will return!

Gabby G.

Yelp
This meal was a 10/10! The ambiance and vibes were relaxed on the night we went. Our server was wonderful, she offered us complimentary fried green tomatoes after she found out it was our first time visiting. They were delicious and I highly recommend trying them if you visit! I had the lemon pepper chicken for my main dish and it was very filling. I will be going back to Atkins Park again soon!

Yelp
Back to legendary Atkins Park; The coolest place for all the Smyrna players & drunkards.. Yes being snarky, long day, closing it out at APark, They've a vast, nice, abundant selection of hi%abv beer off their expansive menu. Went w the classic shrimp po boy, v good as well, no surprises ; the onion rings' kick it. Shrimp n Grits another tasty, filling goto. The music selection, v mellow, laid back, college stuff, not intrusive Waiters, staff v helpful & tooo kind; they do u right Also, they kind enough to split check into two separate- alc. & food; In case u dining on an employer CreditC

Yelp
Atkins Park is a long standing restaurant/tavern that is located in Smyrna Market Village. This is one of two Atkins Parks in the metro Atlanta area, with the second and original located in the Highlands area of the city. This location almost seems like 3 different restaurants given the layout and the distinct vibe that each area has. There is a formal dining area that features a mixture of booths and tables clad with white linen, then you have a covered patio with metal tables with the same white linen and a few TV's which has a slightly more chill vibe and then you have the tavern/old school bar area that is just that. This is my favorite part Atkins Park, as you feel like you are in your local bar when you walk in here. You have a few booths lining the walls, but majority of this space is the bar. Service has always been solid here...kind of slow, but it is never bad. The servers are always very friendly, helpful and overall pleasant. Again, only issue is delayed service. Parking is never an issue. There are a few spaces in front, however those fill up quick. In that case you will find a few lots behind the building and other spaces and lots around SMV. Food wise, Atkins Park is a Cajun restaurant at it's core. However, they do have a healthy variety of items on the menu! I have eaten here for all meals and I will say that my favorite is brunch, which is probably their least Cajun menu. The menu is limited, but features the classics of a three egg and meat plate, chicken and waffles and even pancakes. However, my favorite item is hands down the Chilaquiles. I would have never guessed that some of my favorite Chilaquiles would come from an American/Cajun spot, but who doesn't love surprises!? Overall, Atkins Park is a local neighborhood favorite of ours here in Smyrna and honestly, I think that is exactly what they were aiming for! It is always filled with good food, solid service and a good time whether it be for brunch, dinner, game day or a local celebration!

Yelp
We went to Atkins Park Tavern for dinner for the first time, and it was a good experience. I like the pub vibe inside the restaurant and the cute patio out front. They also have a bar area that's separate from the restaurant. They had a local cider that I ordered for a drink. I love crab soup, so I had to order a cup of that! It was good. The shrimp poboy and fries were also good. We ordered the beignets for dessert, and they were delicious! We will certainly be back for the soup and beignets to sit on the patio!
google avatar

Charles A.

Yelp
Nice spot....service and food is always good. Parking is a slight issue, also a decent spot to watch the games

Dennis M.

Yelp
Food is excellent, especially the specials. Service is above average. They have a salmon dish that is one of the best things on the menu.
google avatar

Christina I.

Yelp
Lots of parking. Spacious restaurant. Slow service. Food is meh. My country fried chicken was flavorless. My boyfriend's chicken sandwich was also lacking. Even for a tavern, nothing special here. Won't be back.
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
It wasn't great for a unique night out. Our shrimp poboy was good and piled high but barely had any andoulie sauce and we got charged 50 cents when we asked for more. You could tell it's a fun bar to hang out at if you live in the area. The parking situation isn't great but once you get situated it's a nice area to peruse and if you're in the mood for some food with a Cajun flare, it'll do.

Jessica D.

Yelp
I don't recommend this restaurant. I was really excited to go! I had the drunken pork. It was super dry & like leather. I could barely cut it because it was so tough. Good concept, poor execution.
google avatar

Gregory T.

Yelp
Great ambience and friendly service. My wife had the trout and she loved it. Roasted oysters were good but with a little too much toppings; I wanted the oysters to shine through. Overall though, a good place to go.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
I went specifically for the Oysters and they did NOT disappoint! They were Spot On! They just need to be "saucier", so you can really dip your bread. But the flavor was Everything! I would definitely go back. They not cheap, but they give you that fix better than any other place in Atlanta that I have found.
google avatar

Eric P.

Yelp
Fantastic service from Xander and the manager Manny who went above and beyond to make our first dining experience and my friends b-day extra special. The trout and mahi were cooked to perfection with generous servings, sides delicious, service excellent, my only complaint was the espresso martini that wasn't up to par. I will become a regular for sure!

Alaina E.

Yelp
TERRIBLE SERVICE, told us to leave our table after waiting an hour during oyster fest, workers were completely rude and we couldn't even get a refund after having us get up, WE HADNT EVEN ORDERED FOOD YET. this was a complete waste of money and time, and they definitely should've thought this through more, I don't recommend coming here. its a complete scam.

Yelp
Great location, great food, great service and loved the interior. Looking forward to returning. Came with a large party and they accommodated very well.

Yelp
On July 15th my wife, daughter, and I were treated to the most amazing dinner. The food was delicious, but what made everything even better was the impeccable service. Allena treated us like queens and made instant friends with our three year old. Thank you for making our night so fantastic!! I can not wait until we get to come back.

Susan B.

Yelp
We had a great meal tonight! The food was fresh, hot, and tasty. The cocktails were just right. Our server was John. He was great. He was very attentive and very friendly and we had a great time. It was the first time my siblings and I were all together in 39 years. Thank you, John, for your great service. Go to this restaurant if you are visiting Smyrna!

Yelp
Enjoyable dinner. Service was excellent and food was very good. Shout out to Zander who provided some very good food suggestions.

Yelp
Experience: I would absolutely recommend this place for their friendly staff, food quality, ambience, and value Vibe: tavern inside, white linen table dinning room, patio w drinker and brunch Food: amazing food. All categories Drinks: strong and great value - wide selection Service: great service, attention to detail and hospitality Prices: extremely fair for the incredible quality. Recommend: pecan trout, homemade chips, salmon (the sauce is phenomenal), fried chicken, fried green tomatoes

Nuno N.

Yelp
Wow that was bad. This place used to be a favorite for brunch. The salmon Benedict I just tried sounded good. I'm sure it could have been if it weren't for the taste, texture, appearance, and smell. When I asked about it I was told that's how they serve it. There was one piece of red onion. No dill, no capers, no flavor. Seriously three leaves of spinach with two cans of cat food on top. Well it wasn't cat food clearly because it was full of bones too. My tongue still feels fuzzy. No point in trying to talk to the manager. He was already busy being condescending and superior with another upset guest. Honestly his interactions with us and the hostess as we were being seated made me think he was a bus boy in training. He seemed about as engaged. I'm torn up about losing this option.
google avatar

Ajuah H.

Yelp
A group of us came for Oyster Fest at Atkins Park and it was a wonderful experience. Shout-out to the manager on duty, Glen, who gave us excellent hospitality, as well as our server, Lauren. I highly recommend - well-made drinks, fun ambiance, tasty food.
google avatar

Shan M.

Yelp
Neighborhood friendly eatery good for dates, solo or social dining with friends I feel pampered whenever I am here. My little method of self care when I need relief and don't want a massage or spa appointment. Food is good too!!
google avatar

Jeanette P.

Yelp
We had a great time for our first experience, as the atmosphere, food, and mimosas were truly enjoyable. Let's first talk about those smoked Cajun Asian sauce wings...OMG I would just go back for the wings alone. They are smoke to protection with just the right bite of flavors. All the food was fresh from the kitchen, and we both agreed that a little more seasoning or maybe a pinch more of salt could have kicked up the fish and chicken dishes. The she by crab soup was ok, not the best we've had, but with adding salt and pepper we ate and enjoy it for what it was. All in all we would return for good food and a good time.

Rod M.

Yelp
First time coming here. Decent food and relaxed atmosphere, however it's pretty evident that regular patrons receive preferential service. A man (greeted by name) came in 10 minutes after I had sat down and ordered my meal, got his food 10 minutes before me, finished and left 20 minutes before I even got my bill even after asking the bartender for my bill. It almost felt as if I was bothering her. No, problem there. I won't be back!!
google avatar

Jeannie S.

Yelp
I, personally, would love if they brought the avocado, tomato grilled cheese back to the late night menu. Or ALL menus!!
google avatar

Colin W.

Yelp
Really strong hidden gem in a great live, work, play type plaza. Drink pricing, selection and overall friendliness of the staff is good. I highly recommend the Salmon Picatta. Also don't leave without having the beignets. Eat them there, they are best enjoyed on-site. Also a great place to watch a game.
google avatar

Bob J.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience at Atkins Park Tavern! All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Masks were worn correctly on all employees, which is always great to see. Tables were spaced out on the patio. It started pouring rain outside, but we were comfortable in the covered patio. The food was fine, except the salad dressing with my caesar salad was horrible. Luckily, I had ordered it on the side. I recommend Nothing Bundt Cakes next door for desert!
