"Chef Zac Basto fell in love with empanadas when his El Salvadoran grandfather taught him how to make them. When the pandemic put Basto out of work in 2020, the chef created empanada service Casa Cardoza. Basto makes a wide variety of empanadas, now offered at several local coffee shops and markets like Staplehouse.
