I'm actually pretty impressed on how things are run here at ACFB. I kind of assumed it'd be run by someone that's not passionate about their job or just trying to get a job. But our Lead was someone that truly loved what he did and why he did it. Same goes for the staff members.
I think the guy that was our Lead for our company's volunteering outing was.. Billy? Bill? Great guy and very helpful. He was very articulate with instructions and thoroughly explained on what to do once we were on the floor.
ACFB is a place where all donations are received, stored, sorted and given out. The warehouse is huge. I saw so many boxes and items... whoa. Definitely can tell this place had a lot going on.
When we first arrived at the center, we were all seated in their main area. Once all the groups arrived, we were given instructions on what to keep, throw away, who will do what and etc. It was simple. But we had a few groups of youngins so Billy had to sometimes re-explain. But no worries on that.
Once we got on the floor - it was like an assembly line x 4(?). The work areas had long assembly lines.. so long that it could fit at least 10 -15 people. The line closest to the scale was the "finished packing line". Each box had to have certain items (feminine hygiene, assorted beverages, canned foods, and etc). Each scale had a color coded paper to write the weight/date on. Also, each box had to weigh a certain amount. Can't be too light or too heavy.
This process made the time go by so fast! We were there for 2 hours, but it only felt like 30 mins.
I highly recommend folks to come here for volunteering. All staff members I met were solid and super nice.
