Sandwiches From Restaurants Around Atlanta You’ve Just Got to Try

"Those in search of a good Nihari sandwich should check out Altanta Halal Meat and Food in Suwanee. This sloppy joe-style sandwich sees slow-braised leg of lamb shredded and seasoned with an aromatic blend of spices garnished with jalapenos, onions, and fresh herbs. It comes with a side of zesty fries." - Eater Staff

Really wanted to like this place but unfortunately did not have the best experience. Ordered the chicken sandwich with high hopes and expectations and was disappointed to find the chicken so dry, bland, and somehow simultaneously under and over cooked. I’m giving blunt feedback in the hopes that the chef listens and improves. Please make the chicken thinner cut to make it easier to eat. The batter made the chicken crispy which was good, but it was under seasoned. The sauce was nice but there was too little of it to help with the dryness of the chicken. I liked the pickled jalapeño but think outside of the box and add some more toppings to add texture and taste. Husband thought the nihari sandwich was good so there’s that. He did wish that it was made out of beef instead of lamb but that’s what happens when you have a shop in Patel plaza I guess!

Amazing, fresh & delicious food by Masterchef Farhan Momin. We had the Bihari wings which were melt-in-the-mouth and grilled perfectly. Karee Fried Chicken sandwich was out of this world. And Chicken Katakat was tasty too! Everything is cooked to order. We will be back!

On Sept 25 2020 I ordered Goat Meat. I was charged for 2.16 Lb @$8.99 + 7% Sales Tax. Transaction No 023821. I suspected that the actual weight is not 2.16 LB so I asked the person on counter named Ali if the weight is correct and he answered yes. Not satisfied with it, I checked the weight when I reached home on a scale and it was only 1.125 LB. I called the shop immediately and Ali asked me to come back. Next day morning I went to the shop again and when the same meat bag was weighed on shops scale it was 1.6 according to Ali. He still did not accepted the mistake for difference between 2.16 charged to me v/s 1.6 weighted on his scale. He blamed me for my scale being wrong. Ali also told me the reason was due to With fat or without fat but at no point of time he asked me if I want meat with fat or without fat. I asked for the refund. Just to confirm my weigh scale I checked my home scale with Costco 3 LB almond pack and it weighed exactly 3 LB So disappointing. Response to owners comment - You mentioned some customer like Fat and some don't, but at the end of the day you can not make that choice for them. As already mentioned in my review I was never asked for the choice or told about this. Also when I visited shop next day Ali was so rude when I pointed out same thing. His answer was "I don't have time for this , I have other customers to attend" That tells everything about your customer service and business practice.

Currently I am at a pediatrician office and writing this review. We bought tandoori chicken yesterday at this shop for the first time. Our 7 year old son likes the tandoori chicken and we wanted to try it here. He got vomiting, motions and rashes on his skin the night after he had this chicken. Look at the attached photo how ugly and bad their tandoori chicken looks. He only had just 10% of a leg quarter and said he didn’t want to eat anymore because the chicken looks ugly, taste very bad and have bad smell. Early morning we had to visit an urgent care to get him tested. The doctor confirmed that it’s because of the food. Now I am going to go further and take a legal action against this restaurant. I am going to send the chicken sample to the food safety officer today. And one more thing, I called on their phone number but no one answered the phone and no voicemail setup. Don’t eat here and don’t put yours and your family’s health in danger.

Amazing food! Plethora of food options for everyone, including vegetarians. Ordered the paneer fries and paneer katakat sandwich. Very cool dish & very filling. Will come again.

Google
Audacity of this place despite multiple reviewing stating they cheat customers by weighing incorrectly. Wish I checked the reviews before my visit. I was charged for 2.4lbs goat meat but upon checking the weight after returning home it turned out to be only 2.04lbs. WTH!!

Ruined the party they sold the expired marinated chicken. It smells bad and we are afraid to taste.

This place is incredible! Awesome authentic Desi food with unique food options by Master Chef Farhan Momin. The family also loved the quality of the meat we picked up to cook at home. Will definitely be back to try more food. Thanks for the great experience!

Yelp
This place is a local hidden gem. Amazing, fresh and delicious authentic Desi food by MasterChef Farhan Momin. Incredible fast food and friendly service is available. The food is freshly prepared and all the meat is sourced directly making it the go to spot to satisfy a craving. Everything I had was perfect, starting with Biryanis, Wings, and curries. The Bihari wings with the perfect amount of char and spice will keep me coming back. Chicken Katakat curry was tasty too and everything is cooked to order. Try the goat biryani, it was very tasty and yummy. The portions are good and reasonably priced. There are few seating place available inside, but I prefer to have a order to go from here as it is little congested to eat inside. Naaz at the checkout was very helpful, cooperative and even told me about some brilliant ideas to keep chicken frozen in a better way. This place is super clean, and the staff took care to insure my order was correct. As it sits in a shopping plaza, the parking is free and ample. This place is just next to Patel Plaza. I will definitely be back to try more food soon. Thanks for the great experience.

Yelp
Overall, food was very good and hits the spot if you're looking for Indian food, but I have to drop the rating for this place because no one working had a mask on properly. First and foremost as a butcher shop, Atlanta Halal also does cooked food for you to eat there or take out. There are lots of options for meat eaters and vegetarians, and their menu and meat cut options are all very large. The interior is super trendy and modern, which is pretty unique for a butcher. I ordered the chicken tikka tandoor to go, and I thought it was great. The chicken was seasoned amazingly and the sauce they gave added the perfect amount of moisture. The rice was very generic, but added good texture to eat with the meat. I think I'd like to come back at some point to try their sandwich, but won't be doing so until they start wearing their masks correctly.

Yelp
Unfortunately the lady there has no manners. I placed an order and couldn't collect my goat leg as originally expected the day I placed the order. She calls me and slams me for not showing up. Can't you call and check if the customer wants to still proceed with the order? Can't you call and say I need to sell This unfortunately as someone else needs this right away - can you place another order? Or if this severely impacts business, ask for a payment when people place an order over the phone. I would have gladly done that instead. What is the need to call and slam a customer and then hang up on her? After an 11 hour shift I couldn't make it & I get bitch slapped about it. I wish the indian establishments teach their staff basic customer service. It was purely unnecessary to bash me out for this reason. I will for this reason not be going back.

Yelp
Usually get my halal meat from here and everytime I've come they advertise to try their famous tandoori chicken sandwich. So this time did a take out. It was delicious, however would have been better if the chicken pieces inside the sandwich were smaller. The big chunks kept moving around sliding out. Overall was good

Yelp
Great place to get Indian food and pickup some meat while you're there. If you like spicy, this is perfect. Usually a butcher shop has an odor but this place is very clean. Not too many tables for sitting but it works. Bihari wings were delicious and goat karahi was nicely cooked. Many other places keep their goat or lamb chewy. Give this place a try and you'll be coming back. Update: We ordered chicken biryani for Super Bowl party and loved it.

Yelp
They have the best Samosas I have had in a very long time. They are lick your lips delicious! Crispy edges, golden brown goodness sprinkled with a bit of chat masala. I will be back for more soon! Meat shop was nice and clean and Ali was friendly.

Yelp
Got the fried chicken sandwich from here. It came with fries with a sprinkling of masala. The sandwich was really good with a green sauce and jalapeños.

Yelp
I've come here enough times and eaten at other Indian restaurants to know that butter chicken doesn't look like this. But the owner wanted to manipulate the situation when I called about the food and stated that I needed to request less butter next time. Instead of apologizing and owning up to their mistake, they wanted to blame the customer. She said to come back to their restaurant and they will make us a new one. Long story short. We drove back and waited ten minutes, no apology, no reimbursement of the dish or other way to redeem themselves, and still insisted that that's their normal butter chicken unless we request less butter. So just fyi, this is their butter chicken. I don't think anyone would want to eat this. Complete negligence of admitting their mistake. I gave them an extra star just because the other food we ordered was good. Will still never come back here again.

Yelp
This place is located on the north end of the Patel Brothers grocery center. Inside you'll find a butcher along side their restaurant menu. The inside can seat around 20 but right now it's all folded up. The decor is clean and works. I got a few items that I wasn't familiar with but I thought I would try it. The chicken tandoori was good but I wish I didn't burn the edges. I just trimmed the burnt parts but it's better to not have to do that. The chicken katakat was a little spicey and oily. Not really for me. The garlic naan was also burnt on the edges, but the taste was good. I prefer fluffier naan but theri naan is the standard naan I've experienced. The price and portion was good. The service was decent. It won't knock your socks off but it's decent. I ordered over the phone and received it on time though they have an onlnie ordering platform. They were butchering some meat in the back when I arrived so a courtesy hand wash would go a long way for customer service. Overall, it's a good halal option at a good price.

Yelp
I have been here twice . Delish Indian Food ! I had the farmo fries with chicken tikka , so great . I went back and had the fried chicken sandwich !! It really is better then Popeyes ! Both of these had a great special sauce from Farmo . It's Amazing !!

Yelp
After 2 hours of wait, cashier realized he is super messed taking orders online and has delayed the order. Not bad, messes-ups can happen in this is COVID situation. Worst is, he gets fierce on the customers to hide him being messy, even worst is screaming. It would have been great if the Briyani and chicken khadai was at least of "average " quality. I won't be here next time.

Yelp
Halal food with taste and innovation!!!! I had my eye on this spot for months as I followed the chef on IG and saw his recipes- Pakistani with a modern twist. I was not disappointed. Nihari SANDWICH. karee chicken sandwich would shut down the Chick-fil-A vs Popeyes sandwich debate in a bite. Their traditional food wasn't my favorite but the owner suggested we give them an idea of what we want in advance - more spicy, less oil. It was done so well with high quality ingredients. I say this because even though I overate I felt good afterwards. Normal Pakistani restaurants will leave you feeling unsettled for the next day. I'm convinced they're using quality ingredients. Also, they sell Halal meat but it doesn't smell like a meat store! I would ABSOLUTELY come back. I'm dreaming about those sandwiches...

Yelp
I had the most terrible experience with the butcher shop. I went to pick up an order that I placed via phone. When I got there, I was given an order based off the name I gave. However, I did not realize until I went back home that she handed me the wrong order. When I tried to exchange the meat, the lady verbally harassed me. She said it was my mistake even though she handed me the wrong order. She said she will not accept it, not offer a refund, or even compensate me for my actual order. I had to pay for two different orders of meat. She was not accommodating or understanding in the slightest sense. She refused to acknowledge that she played any part in this mix up, and she was berating me in an accusatory manner. She did not even apologize for her verbal harassment, but she kept lying to try to pin it on me. I have never been spoken so rudely to by a business like this before.

Yelp
Amazing bites in ATL! The Karee sandwich is so bomb (one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had). The lamb chops, chicken wings and nihari are a must try. One of the hidden gems in the city

Yelp
Come give this place a try if you want some delicious indian/american fusion food! I was able to try the kharee chicken sandwich, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, malai boti, and naan. To start things off, the kharee chicken came with some well seasoned fries, which some restaurants fail to do. The sandwich itself was comparable if not bigger than the popeyes sandwich, and had great flavor to it. When the chicken is having trouble staying inside of the bun, you are doing things right! If this is your first time, I would recommend getting this. My second favorite item was the butter chicken. I'm not a huge fan of ordering this at other indian restaurants, but it tastes really good here. The chicken itself was very tender, and overall this dish had really good flavor. The tandoori chicken was also really good, as it came with a bed of rice accompanied by onions, which are mandatory for Indians. The chicken itself had a really tasty miranade, which I was glad to see. I wasn't the biggest fan of the malai boti, as it seemed to be a tad bit overcooked. Overall the prices are decent, the chef/owner is very nice, and the food hits! The interior seating is about 5 tables, so not that big, and they also have a halal meat shop in the back. I'm glad indian/halal food is moving towards were I live, and not everyone is deciding to pop up in Decatur, so I appreciate the location!

Yelp
Customer service was decent, because they resolved the issue then and there, because they knew it would be a bigger issue if they hadn't. But the food quality could definitely be better. My husband got the karee fried chicken sandwich that was burnt and very dry inside. I got the 8-piece chicken malai boti- EVERY piece was raw as seen in the picture. It was very bland. The owner said he'd have it remade. Only 6 pieces of chicken came. I didn't eat it; I went home not having an appetite til the next day. *My friend who is expecting also had something from this very same spot. She mentioned the chicken boti tasted funny and sour to her. She went home with a terrible stomach ache and went to the doctor to only find out she had food poisoning. I wish she told me sooner she was going there. I didn't know til we caught up after a long time. I give one star because food quality- moreover FOOD SAFETY isn't up to par. As a nutritionist and a HACCP consultant, I know to steer clear. This is sad. I don't how in the world there are 5-star reviews here. Hopefully no one else gets sick from eating here.

Yelp
The meat here is of excellent quality. Be it goat, kheema or chicken, the quality is the best around this area. The service has improved significantly with the lady (I keep forgetting her name - Saaz / Caaz). She is extremely quick, customer focused, and very efficient. The place is busy all the time, but she is what keeps this place running the front end. She is a keeper.

Shahid A.

Yelp
Worst customer service and very rude staff. I would give them 1/2 rating. I will never go to this place again.

Areeb R.

Yelp
Fried Chicken Sandwich was tasteless and fries were bland too. Tastes like microwave dinner.

Yelp
Quick service, friendly staff and great food. The owner was very kind, I ordered meat with them and the owner was so helpful he came outside to my car to drop off my order. Appreciate their kindness.

Yelp
This place is just amazing ! Their mouth watering Nihari burger is the best burger I have eaten in North America. They can easily franchise this.

Yelp
I have been a regular customer to this store but after today's experience I will not visit this store again. Yesterday we purchased goat meat and also 2pks of chicken drum sticks. Everything was stored properly in the fridge. I planned to marinade / grill to serve my kids. Today when I opened the chicken drumsticks, we noticed that very bad smell coming from these packs. Smell was so strong and I decided not to use them and tried to inform the store, bcoz it's a serious health issue. I tried to talk to the store owner and the lady at the front desk refused to put the owner on phone and rudely asked me to bring the meat back. I tried to explain her that I cannot bring the meat back as store is too far from me and I am not asking for refund. But the lady continue to argue with me and insisted on bringing the meat back. I explained her that I am regular customer and just wanted to inform them about this. But I did not expect such an arrogant conversation from her. Anyway be careful when you purchase here and check the temperature of the meat or package.

Yelp
Amazing. I had the fried chicken sandwich. Chick-Fil-A has nothing on this place. My friends had the kabobs and they were very falvorful. Everything was extremely fresh even though it came out quick. The restaurant was very, very clean (not just by small Indian restaurant standards, but in general). Portion sizes were large but not overwhelming and well balanced (meat to starch ratio). Well worth the 40minute drive. Only thing I would change is I wish they were closer to Decatur/East Atlanta.

Kristina L.

Yelp
Wish I had stopped to take a picture of my food but we inhaled them too quickly! Best fried chicken sandwich in Atlanta! SO GOOD. The nihari is also amazing! Can't wait to return and try more things!!

Michelle N.

Yelp
AMAZING! I love the kharee fried chicken sandwich (sauce is BOMB) and the Chicken 65! Lamb was so flavorful and tender. Fresh, modern and inviting atmosphere and the owners are so personable; they treat you like family. Can't wait to try more menu items next time!
