TikTok Food Critic Keith Lee Reviews Atlanta Restaurants and Goes Viral | Eater Atlanta

"I found that Lil Baby’s the Seafood Menu was among the restaurants where Lee flagged eyebrow-raising extra charges and restrictive service policies, contributing to a perception that some Atlanta venues favor vibe and clout over clear, fair customer service." - Beth McKibben

Google
Great place! Went with four others from work. We were each given gumbo sample as we waited to order! Nice flavor, and nice touch! We all enjoyed our meals, fresh and fast. If you’re in the area, check them out!

Google
When you hear of hole-in-the-wall gems serving wonderful food, this hopefully is one! Gumbo, fish, red beans and rice, étouffée, fried fish, grilled fish, blackened fish, and the same options with shrimp! Class? They got those too! Mexican style ceviche? Yup! With tostados! Po boys with pretty much any items they have. Always fresh, always delicious, always worth it.

Google
It's such a delicious restaurant. The food is all delicious. The workers are kind and clean, too.

Google
Lawdhammercy this place is PHENOMENAL! Wow! Started with fried calamari, was great. I got the seafood platter. It was all just amazing. They even have them good fries. Kid had the citrus grilled salmon tacos, with red beans and rice. Also outstanding. So we got a few to-go orders for the folks at home who missed out. Fish platter and shrimp platter. Haven't tried them yet. But LISTEN. I need to have a word about the ceviche. I am quite certain that they put crack in this ceviche. It's the best I've ever had by a landslide. Like I'm debating whether to even tell the hubs I got it so I won't have to share. Don't tell him. Seriously it's so fresh tasting, perfect amount of cilantro, amount of citrus, spiciness, etc. I legit just walked away from writing this to get another couple of bites. Issues. The people working here are fantastic. Super friendly and efficient. Food came out in no time flat. It's also an actual seafood market. We'll be going back to get some yummy seafood to cook soon. It all looks really good. At the risk of being Captain Obvious.....I recommend you hit this place like immediately.

Google
Shrimp poboy, gumbo, shrimp tacos... everything was delicious. We did not need all the different sauces & condiments that were included in takeout so next time I'll know to mention that. Great casual spot, Kids love to look at the raw fish, Like that they have a closed in patio

Google
Went with a friend here for dinner. The staff and atmosphere inside was fantastic. We both really enjoyed the Cajun items on the menu. The gumbo and crawfish etouffee tasted great. An overall awesome experience.

Google
I can’t believe I just found the best seafood gumbo I think I have ever had. It is cafeteria style inside so we got it to go. I bought 6 grilled shrimp and added it to the gumbo - amazing.

Google
What a fantastic find!!! Stopped here for lunch and so happy we did. Love fresh seafood and this place was a goldmine of fresh seafood selections. Had the crawfish etouffee in the large size and was like being back in New Orleans! My friend had the swordfish and said it was equally as good. Will definitely be back to try other menu items. 😋

Yelp
We have wanted to try this place for years. The couple times we tried it was closed. So today we finally made it. And it was a disappointment. There is a nice big parking lot so that's good. Walk in and see all the fish. The decor is trophy mounts and the counter has seafood on ice for you to look at. Order at the counter and they give you cups for your self serve beverage and a number for your table so someone can bring out your food when it is ready. Megan and I both ordered off the specials menu. I had the flounder and shrimp platter, Megan had the salmon Bahn mi. My plater was was one thin flounder filet (flounder are flat so that's ok), five shrimp, four hush puppies, and fries. The flounder was corn meal breaded and kinda bland. The shrimp were not shrimpy. Not bad but not good and with a thicker batter. The hush puppies were small but very good. The fries were batter coated and looked like typical food service fries. Megan's sandwich looked good but the salmon was over cooked and tasted earthy. Salmon is a fish, salmon live in in the ocean. How are they earthy? Anyway Megan said the best part of her meal was the fries. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing. This place gets a lot of love but I'd eat at Captain D's for better food for way less money. My plate was $27 and Captain D's is currently advertising a fish and shrimp plate for $7. I will be reviewing that one soon.

Yelp
Best cooked grouper I've had. I ate the fish separately because it was so good. Hush puppies were excellent, beans and rice are great comfort food. You order at the counter but food came out quick so service was fine. We ate out of the patio instead of inside. It's more of a hole in the wall but good food.

Yelp
We really like this place. The parking lot can be a little busy on the weekend, weekdays aren't so bad. The food was good. I really liked the shrimp, and oysters. Whiting isn't my thing. The clam strips make me question if I've ever even had real clams before they were so good. I will definitely be back in the future.

Yelp
AHSM has a well-deserved reputation. We finally got here for lunch, and it was excellent. We arrived at 1120 on a Thursday, and by 1145, the restaurant was full. Service was friendly and fast. So much to choose from, and I went for the calamari. Generous portion and good flavor. My wife had the shrimp, and they were equally as good. The accompanying fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies were all tasty. Of particular note, the kitchen obviously changes the fryer oil on a regular basis. This is so key to a good fried seafood platter! Next visit, I'll be trying a 'po boy and red beans and rice! Cheers! RS

Yelp
Busy popular place even mid afternoon on a Friday with people ordering at the counter & then sitting down in the unpretentious dining room to wait for their food. Came for the market fish. Not as expansive a selection as their competition, Gainesville Seafood. ATL Highway Seafood Market provides very expensive fresh fish selection. Call ahead early in the day if you are looking for select or prime cuts of fish. .

Yelp
To be clear, the food was 4 star. Quite tasty, decent sized portions. The slaw was hot, and kind of felt like (and lived up to) an afterthought. But fries, ousters, scallops- all good. I took another star off for the absurdity of a "service charge" being added after a tip. AND in the end, there was zero reason to tip (even without ththe charge). The sole thing that a server kept me from doing was walking up to the counter when they called my food as ready. So . . . that move earned them$6+ since I had no way to know there was actually no service plus an added service charge. OK, writing that just got me worked up again. Taking one star for the 15% tip BEFORE knowing there was actually no service other than delivering the food, and a second for the suprise service charge.

Yelp
After having this place bookmarked for years, my coworkers and I finally dined here for lunch! I wish I could like this place much, much more than I did - to be fair, I had just come back from eating the freshest coastal seafood for three days, so my expectations are likely skewed. AHSM is an interesting old-school setup, where half the space is a literal seafood market with an ordering counter and seafood on ice, similar to what you'd find at any seafood market. The other half of the restaurant is a straightforward dining room with a condiment area, self-serve drink station, booths and chairs. In the seafood market area, I was torn between all the options (there are A LOT of options), and I wanted to sample everything so the most obvious choice is the Seafood Platter with fish, shrimp, and oyster. I wish there were a smaller option for lunch as I did not want to spend or eat $24 worth of seafood for lunch, but alas, here we are. Once you pay, grab a seat in the dining area and a server will deliver your food fairly quickly. As expected, my dish was a pretty good size - I ate a few bites of each protein and asked to take the rest home. The oysters and shrimp were good but not the freshest and likewise with the fish. All three items were heavily breaded. I can't say I liked any one over the other; they were all mediocre, but again, this is from someone who recently spent a few days eating a ton of incredibly fresh seafood. If I didn't have my personal seafood experiences so recent or if I had a strong craving for seafood and could not get it anywhere else, I'd definitely come here.

Yelp
Perhaps it would be helpful to compare Atlanta Highway Seafood Market (this restaurant) to Gainesville Seafood Market, the blue building just up the street. We have eaten at both so this review will focus only on the similarities and differences between them. Gainesville Seafood Market -- 1) much better selection of seafood especially live lobster and even the occasional king crab legs. One leg fills you up. 2) Nickel and dime you to death, even charging for cocktail sauce 3) larger portions here. A half pound of scallops here fills a plate instead of six for $18 dollar scallops like the competitor 4) virtually no table service here so don't expect much. You select the seafood that you want 5) fish-house ambiance. No first dates here. 6) difficult to find an English speaker. Ordering is more of a point and grunt Atlanta Highway Seafood Market -- 1) small facility, absolutely freezing inside 2) some table service, but it ain't the Ritz 3) barely able to move in the parking lot 4) no ambiance whatsoever 5) restaurant selects the seafood you get 6) fries are those pre fried critters that more restaurants seem to be going to 7) fried shrimp tasted like onion rings. Time to change the oil? The Verdict -- Go to the big blue building called Gainesville Seafood Market for the best food, selection, and soups. Go to the other for well ... hmm

Yelp
Best seafood place in middle Georgia so much great fresh and tasty seafood the staff was very helpful and life is good

Yelp
This is located in a localized hub in Gainesville. There is outdoor seating, indoor and you can order to go. The fish tacos are excellent and come with red beans and rice if you wish. I pretty much hate red beans and rice but they decorate your taco enough so that you won't notice a difference. I had the Maui Mahi tacos and a side of Cole Slaw with an order of hush puppies. The fish taco was close to perfect; Cole slaw was good and really enjoyed the hush puppies especially with a piece of corn in it. The system is that you order, they give you a number if you want to eat there and they bring to you. All in all, I enjoyed eating everything here and would definitely return when in Georgia.

Yelp
Quality seafood at a reasonable price. The food comes quickly, which is important when you are toting a toddler. You order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table within 10 minutes. The fried oysters are tasty; they retain their moisture, texture and flavor somehow, definitely order them. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. I'm not a huge fan of their sides, but the seafood makes up for it.

Yelp
I'm getting so tired of feeling pressured to leave a tip when placing an order at a counter. Even though I had eaten here years ago, I couldn't remember how dine in worked so I left a gratuity when asked while ordering at the counter because I figired I'd have a regular server at my table. Nope, all she did was bring my food to me and then clear the table when I left. I had to get my own drink and refills. To make matters worse, they don't warn you of a "service fee" when they prompt you to leave a gratuity. I can't afford to eat here anymore. A $40.92 lunch for a very basic salad with a piece of fish on top and a small bowl of gumbo won't work for me. Yes, the piece of grouper was nice but nowhere near worth the cost. Oh well.

Yelp
This place is a HIT! It is pricey but with good reason. It's delicious and some of the freshest seafood you'll get here in GA. The staff here is very kind and polite. They are quick to serve your food. The location was very clean and simple. The poy boy was pack with fried shrimp and enough to share. Lightly seasoned on fresh bread. The calamari is crispy and a great portion for $9. Their sauces are homemade and they don't taste like anyone else's. Overall this absolutely lands in the 5 star category. Please visit if you got the budget and want good seafood

Yelp
WOW.... Finally I had a chance to eat here with my husband and daughter. Service was fast and super friendly . Food was hot, very fresh and delicious . You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Staffs are awesome. We definitely will be back!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Freshest seafood I've had since moving to GA. Highly recommend. Took the family here for a nice lunch and man was it good. Staff wasn't overly friendly but who cares I guess. Place is really simple but clean. Seafood in showcases looked very fresh as well.

Angelica B.

Yelp
the ceviche and shrimp cocktail were so good and service was good as well, prices are not that bad.

Yelp
We stopped here while passing through town a few weeks ago & were so pleasantly surprised! Nice, efficient staff, & food was really good & fresh (so much so, though after we ate & were full, we wanted to order things to go home with us). My wife really loved their beans & rice, especially noting the sausage used. Next time we're even close to town we'll probably use this place as an excuse to come on in to visit.

Yelp
The AHSM is legitimately a hidden gem in Gainesville. They have a very unassuming store front location, but the great seafood that these folks churn out is impressive. Upon walking in, you are greeted with a working seafood market with all sorts of fresh seafood on ice that you can gaze upon as you wait in line to order. I am almost always drawn to the fish tacos, and you have the opportunity to choose the type of fish you'd like. Their hush puppies and rice and beans are super good! As a note, it's a walk up, order, sit, and they bring your food to your table; It's all self service, and there are no servers. The employees have always been welcoming and great, so no complaints there. They are a little short on parking, the food is on the expensive side, but it's a place that you will be happy you visited.

Yelp
One of those hidden gems you would think would be in the city of Atlanta, but alas a FRESH seafood market out in a small town. I will warn that this place doesn't look like much from the outside but looks aren't always everything. There is parking but it isn't the best setup, small lot and not easy to get in and out of in a big vehicle. Plan to give yourself more time to park if coming during busy dinner/lunch hours. Upon walking up they have a featured "specials" board outside. I love when establishments go out of there way to have specials. They all sounded delicious btw. This is an order then sit down style restaurant, simple and seems to keep the line moving fast. The menu is right behind the register, easy to read and lots of variety but you're guaranteed to get distracted by all the fresh seafood (I definitely did). From what I gathered from other reviews, you can't really go wrong with what to order. We chose the large oyster plate (comes with your choice of 2 sides) and a blackened sea bass & shrimp taco plate. The taco plates aren't advertised as being able to mix & match, but you can and totally should! The taco plate came with one side and I opted for the cheese grits. The oysters were our favorite!! Huge in size, crispy but not overpowering on the breading- just downright delicious. The blackened sea bass taco was amazing- the fish just melted in your mouth. Shrimp tacos were good but I should have gotten the scallop (recommended by the cashier). After devouring our seafood, sides were next- hush puppies are an absolute yes! The cheese grits were just average and I would skip those next time. The restaurant was clean inside and a good amount of tables. They also have a condiment setup with all your fried fish necessities (ketchup, hot sauce, lemons). They do have a patio but it is quite small and dogs are not allowed. When asking if their patio was dog friendly the cashier replied "last time we allowed dogs they made a mess". An assumption based off a previous experience followed by an unclear answer was disappointing. If needing a fresh seafood fix- this place is definitely for you. Pro tip- this place gets busy so if you don't want to wait come before lunch/dinner rush hours.

Kristyn B.

Yelp
I'll preface this with saying I'm not the biggest fried seafood fan. I tried both the salmon tacos and a fried catfish platter. Both were good but not amazing. I've heard that the gumbo & jambalaya are great so will definitely be trying that in the future. The dish that was outstanding was the red beans and rice. Super flavorful, I wish I just had a big portion of that!

Johnny G.

Yelp
Best selection of fish, gumbo and side.Amazing fresh fish for them to cook or to take home and cook for yourself. Eat in or take out

Michael P.

Yelp
One of the best reasons for living in Northeast ATL area. The access to global food and culture in one place is unbeatable!
google avatar

Yelp
food is fresh, cafeteria style service, outdoor seating is possible. Go if you want fresh, delicious fish

Stephen B.

Yelp
Amazing quality! Big portions! Great service. Very fast! Nice family friendly place!

Yelp
The Best Scollops in Metro Atlanta, are in Gainesville Whether you have them Blackened and seared or fried, their size, taste and texture for every mouth-watering bite makes this the place to come to sate your Scollops cravings.

Greg J.

Yelp
Best in Gainesville :) Overall, pretty solid and consistent with lots of options and choices. IMHO, it's better than the place and fresher than the other place just down the road.

Mandy H.

Yelp
Fresh grilled seafood with decent amount. We ordered grilled seafood combo C and substitute the oyster with scallop. Water a second plate after few bites already LOL

Bob T.

Yelp
This place never disappoints! We have been eating here for at least 12 years! Almost always get the fried shrimp dinner. Tonight was another great meal there! Thanks for being so consistent...when you eat there you know you are always getting a great meal!!

Charles R.

Yelp
For me great food and prices. Love the three piece catfish most but enjoy the variety of the menu. Good service too.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
We always have a delicious meal here. The food is good, tasty, quick, and affordable. The decor isn't fancy, but who needs linen tablecloths if the food is very tasty. The owner is always running the register or checking on the kitchen, which ensures consistent quality. We have eaten here many times, and look forward to many more. As a bonus, they also sell fresh fish, crabs, and crawfish.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
If I could give more than 5 stars I absolutely would!! This was such an amazing find. The seafood is fresh and the place was packed even when they were within an hour of closing for the day. My husband and I both ordered a cup of gumbo and then I went with the shrimp po-boy and my husband had the red snapper plate with cheese grits instead of coleslaw. I can't get over how delicious the shrimp was and how soft it was. So many places serve shrimp cooked until it's rubbery and this shrimp just melted in my mouth. The red snapper was amazing too, seasoned to perfection. I will definitely be back. It was not cheap though but you really get what you pay for and it was worth every penny. The staff was also great, can't forget them. We ordered at the counter and then a waitress brought out our gumbo. Once we were finished our main entrees arrived. Everything was perfect.
google avatar

Emily Alaska M.

Yelp
I have eaten here a few times prior but this visit was my first time dining in. I love that the place has the option for quite literally a small market like area to buy seafood on ice! It also seems to be like a local legend from some of the people I've spoken to. On this visit, we ordered: The half sized oysters meal: I was disappointed that they did not offer raw oysters, but still opted to try the cooked. I also got the fries and coleslaw as my sides. The oysters has a lovely flavor, and the grilled onions they were cooked with also tasted lovely. So much so I ate my full portion when I typically don't care for them. The fries were also what you'd expect from a seafood restaurant and met my expectations. I also would like to make a note that the coleslaw was really good! It's so easy to make but still can be messed up. The coleslaw wasn't drowning in mayonnaise or over salted. We also ordered the shrimp po-boy: My bf always gets this when he comes, no exceptions. And there's definitely a reason why. The sand which is so big and it comes with plenty of shrimp on it as well! Also the loafed bread it comes on it's so tasty and overall it's just a consistent golden item on their menu. We ordered as a side the Red beans & Rice: This was also good, but I do wish it had a little big of a deeper of a flavor profile in comparison to some of the Louisiana bayou style food I've had. But for the price and location, I can't complain too much! I'm happy this hidden gem in Gainesville is still up and running, and if you're in the area, it's definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Before visiting, I'd heard a lot of good things about this place. First visit, I dig it. Jam packed parking lot next to a laundry mat. Luckily there was a spot right up front and we didn't have to wait. We got there on a Friday night about an hour before closing, 7PM. Placed an order to go and it didn't take long at all for my food to be ready. The cashier was super friendly and helpful with ordering if you're unsure. I'd looked at The menu before we got there, so I had in mind what I wanted to order. With that being said, I still hadn't made up my mind! So let's just say that I got a lot of food! LOL Clam chowder - ordered a cup which was enough with all the other food I ordered. Very good flavor! I would have liked for it to have way more potatoes and clam. It was pretty skimpy on the ingredients Fried calamari - ordered all rings, not a fan off the tentacles so glad they were able to accommodate. They were sooo good! Again, the flavor was on point and they weren't too rubbery like some places oftentimes make them. Shrimp and scallops dinner - I ordered fried shrimp and grilled scallops. Also comes with two hush puppies, fries and slaw. The fried shrimp was my least favorite. There were 5 of them. Nice size, not too much breading but a little bland for my taste. Grilled scallops were delicious! Cooked with good seasoning and grilled onions. The dinner included 4 that were separated with foil in my to go box. Appreciate that to prevent the juices flowing to the rest of the food. Loved the fries, crispy and flavorful. I liked the crispness of the slaw but it lacked flavor. A little salt and pepper did the trick but needed more than what came in the plastic ware package. Overall I'm satisfied with the visit. My taste buds did a little dance! I paid around $30 bucks for all the food I ordered so the price isn't too bad. Made two really large meals for me.

Yelp
Very simple no-frills seafood dining that has great seafood platters and fresh fish. Staff is super friendly and the restaurant is very clean.
google avatar

Allen C.

Yelp
We have eaten here many times over the years, and we have never been disappointed (unless they were out of what we wanted). The food is always fresh and tasty, the service is quick, and the restaurant is clean. This is absolutely one of our regular go-to places to eat!
google avatar

Betsy R.

Yelp
Food is always good and service is quick. There is some nice outdoor seating. We love the red beans and rice and grouper is delicious
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
First time here and the inside (and outside) aren't much to look at and leaves a little left to be desired, but the food they're serving up inside is fantastic and we'll worth a visit! The fresh fish selections are at the counter where you order, right in your face! I got the gumbo and red beans and rice, both were great! Next time I will try a piece of fish. This is a counter service restaurant, so you can be in and out fast, which is perfect for lunch. The locals love this place and it gets crowded, so go early!
google avatar

Margie H.

Yelp
The food is good - fried oysters and seafood options that are fresh and not easy to find this far inland. It's a seafood market with an adjacent dining room...not fancy and not cheap but food is good and fresh and they are never hurting for business.

Patricia B.

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing. From the people who work there to the food itself we love it and so has family and friends we've recommended it to. It's not the fanciest place but the food is outstanding .. they also sell fresh seafood We use to live in Clear Lake Texas where I was able to get fresh seafood daily. This is close
google avatar

Janita M.

Yelp
Always fresh and delicious! It's usually order the 2 piece plate. The food is well seasoned, hot and bright to the table as soon as it comes up in the window! Yes, hot food - works for me. Never a complaint except on busy days and no parking. But hey - worth circling the small parking lot and /street for a spot to park! The folks that work there are always pleasant and the restaurant is clean!

Yelp
Best seafood in town. A unique dining experience. These guys rock harder than a metal pail full of clamshells and rocks.

Yelp
I was in the mood for some seafood, so came to Atlanta Highway Seafood Market after reading all the good reviews here on Yelp. I ordered the small oyster platter and small cup of gumbo. The gumbo was packed with proteins (shrimp, sausage, etc.). Flavor was good although apparently it needs to not be as thin, according to my girlfriend who grew up in New Orleans. I also enjoyed the breading on the oysters. In terms of COVID, this place was packed, even when I went around 2pm. I was luckily able to find a corner to myself in the tented area outside. Service was fast and friendly and prices were fairly affordable.

Ralph L.

Yelp
Great seafood, great service, plenty to eat. Also offer fresh seafood to buy and will prep it the way you want.
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
My mom loves this spot & being a Maryland native my family doesn't play about fresh and REAL seafood! Atlanta Hwy Seafood is definitely a contender for fresh seafood. They even have a some fresh seafood on ice that you can pick from. You can have them cook it, or you can take it home. Crab fingers-- 3.5/5 wish they had more meat. My first try at crab fingers, still pretty enjoyable, but at moments it was like eating air. Lol Maybe a dungeons crab will work better? Fish-- 4/5 fried right! Crispy crunchy, if you like Fried fish you should enjoy this. Scallops-- 5/5 Pretty Damn good for the price. Nice fat and fresh. Oh and them hush puppies Now, I have had better seafood but if you're in this particular area stop by, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
A little hole in the wall restaurant in Gainesville! Location/Service: This is located on the side of a laundromat and is pretty cramped when it gets busy. They sell fresh seafood and also have a extensive menu of po boys, platters, gumbo, and more! They were already busy when I got there at 5PM. The line moves pretty quickly and I was able to place my order. The service was great! The man taking my order was super helpful in helping me decide what to get since it was my first time there. He recommended I get the catfish in two different styles: blackened and fried. Food: The sides were pretty standard coleslaw, fries, and hush puppies. The catfish was super tender and cooked well. A little sprinkle of lemon on the fried fish and it was delicious. The real winner of the platter was the blackened catfish with onions. It was so flavorful and my favorite part of the dish. I had a bite of gumbo from my friend and that was really good as well. You honestly can't go wrong with anything you order here. I can't wait to visit again.
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
If your not local this is hidden gem in Gainesville. It is on the edge of well, lets say not the best part of town. But it is fine. The seafood is fresh! Rare in these parts. The service is really good. You may have to wait for a seat. This place is popular for sure! Food has always been amazing no matter what you get! The cervice is to die for!!!! This last time I got the blackened Mahi and blackened shrimp combo. There slaw is super good! I literally have no complaints about the food at all. Im not sure if I should be telling everyone about this place. I do not need it getting any busier! So lets keep it as our secret!
google avatar

Brandon Y.

Yelp
Good eats for Gainesville! The fish was extremely fresh. Very large and diverse menu items. Everything was reasonably priced as well. The service was great too, the whole staff were extremely friendly. My fried food could've used more seasoning but it was still ok. Clean, smaller eating space.

Howard G.

Yelp
Food is excellent Very fresh Staff is attentive Shrimp were great ,ate there and or took some home Recommend

Yelp
I have never had a bad meal here. They have great service and great food. This place is worth every penny.
