I attended a conference at the Marriott Buckhead and overall, I thought it was a pretty solid hotel. It's not a fancy luxury hotel, but it's pretty nice. It underwent some major renovations recently so now it looks great.
The conference I attended took place in some conference rooms on the 4th floor. Marriott catered the event which included an open bar and an assortment of foods. The foods were served buffet-style and included:
Asian cabbage salad with water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, and Mandarin oranges
Sloppy joe sliders and other sliders
Pork loin and roast turkey with a bevy of accompaniments
A variety of pastas including chicken and spinach ravioli
Dessert bar featuring cakes, custards, pastries, cookies, and mini-parfaits
The food was surprisingly decent. I especially enjoyed the chicken and spinach ravioli and the pork loin. Most of the food stations were manned by a server, e.g. the pork and turkey station had a server who cut the slices for you. The pork loin was delicious and I couldn't get enough of the horseradish that came with. The bartender and servers were all friendly, polite, and professional.
An events team brought in a DJ and games such as foosball tables, mini-basketball shoot-out goals, and Nintendo Wiis. There was also a professional photographer on-hand along with a photoshoot backdrop.
The hotel rooms were clean and up-to-date. Standing showers with glass doors, separate almost-walk-in closets, office desk, flatscreen TV, etc. The only thing missing from the standard room was a refrigerator.
Internet was provided by iBANH at a rate of $12.95 per 24 hours, which could be charged to a credit card or billed to the room. Expensive, but that's how Internet at nice hotels work. It's a rip-off.
The hotel isn't a high-rise and the views aren't that great. If you aren't facing an adjacent building, you're looking across the street at Lenox Square Mall. The skyline around Peachtree St. and Lenox Rd. is nice, but only a certain quadrant of the hotel gets that view.
Speaking of Lenox Square, the hotel is located directly across the street from the mall, so it's very convenient if you want to visit. Lenox Square is my favorite mall in Atlanta. Since the hotel is close to Lenox Square, it's also close to the Lenox MARTA station if you ever feel the need to use public transit. Convenient for getting to Downtown.
I had to use the valet service a few times and each time, the valet guys were prompt and courteous. Shula's 347 Grill is located inside this Marriott hotel and if you eat at Shula's, valet is complimentary.
